• howardlM364WU (10/5): Much very Excellent - I gave this hotel a 10 out of 10, I have stayed at this hotel several times and the first person that I came in contact with on this trip was Miss Emily the night time front desk agent with a contagious smile that lit up the warm dark Iowa night time sky, She was very knowledgeable and informative and passionate about her job and the state which she’s from. She knows her stuff, Marriott needs to hire or nominate her to be the Corporate Director, Leader, and Director of Training on-boarding new employees.

• davideZ7351HQ (10/5): A clean, nice hotel absolutely worth staying at - When I choose a hotel, I’m looking for cleanliness, a room that looks nice and has abundant power outlets, and a mattress that hasn’t outlived its usefulness. Fairfield met all those criteria and more. The room was in great condition, the gym was well kept, and even the stairwells were in good shape! The breakfast didn’t have a huge variety, but it tasted good, so credit to the kitchen for that! The staff I interacted with was friendly, and they would either have cookies or water at the front desk every day. That was a nice touch that I really appreciated. The two complaints I have are: (1) The computer chair was not comfortable. I had some not-insignificant rear pain after sitting in that chair for a couple hours. (2) In true Marriott tradition, the pillows are horrible. It’s not a Marriott stay without having the flattest pillows known to man. Aside from that, I have nothing but good to say about this hotel. If I ever had reason to come back to Waterloo, this would probably be my first choice.

• tracylaw2112 (6/5): Family trip - We arrived after checkout time and had received an upgrade to a suite (gold elite with Marriott). The room size was wonderful and more than large enough for my daughter and me. The pros: The bathroom had an excellent size shower. No noticeable exhaust fan so it did get a little steamy but manageable. I have a bad back so I can't really rate the beds but my daughter slept comfortably. The breakfast was average but the area was clean and not overly crowded. It might get a bit tight down there if its busy. The rooms seem a bit older but everything was clean. The location near I 380 was perfect for us. Plenty of free parking. The cons: For some reason, there was no way to close the blackout curtains so we had a nice bright room at 530 when the sun rose. Seems a very dumb design. My parents also had a suite and said it was the same - not sure what the standard rooms were like for this. Also there are zero USB charging ports in the room so plan accordingly. There is only one elevator which wasn't a problem for us but I assume it would be slow to get downstairs if the place is busy. Overall I'd probably look for a slightly newer Marriott in the area next time I'm here, but I wouldn't avoid this one if it was the only option. I'll just bring a sleep mask next time.

The bathroom counter had white powder on there around the sink, and a lot of hairs on the floor and a few on the toilet and in the shower/on the shower door. The caulk for some of the shower was coming off and rust stained. Overall room was older with lots of scratches and a random black stain on the carpet. Walls were thin so I could hear the person in the next room snoring. Breakfast was fine.

• 290barbiew (4/5): Great Staff, Dirty Room - The Fairfield Inn has been our go-to accommodations during visits to Waterloo, Iowa. The Marriott brand is known for great accommodations and wonderfully kind staff. During our recent visit, the staff were great per usual, but our room was plagued with issues that no matter how many times we tried to get them addressed, it was not resolved. We reported the issues 3 times with 2 of those times being in writing and was told there would be a follow-up but there never was. 1. Dirty toilet 2. Dirty/stained shower curtain 3. Visible mold in the shower 4. Dirty Shower- (not even remotely sure how it passed the clean test). 5. Someone else’s BLOOD was in the bathroom. 6. Ran out of toilet paper, waited until the next day before it was received (after 3rd request) 7. Wall and headboard was splattered with a brown substance (GROSS). 8. Nasty stains on the curtains We had small children with us and felt really uncomfortable with them sleeping in the second bed until we cleaned the headboard attached to their bed. We were really disappointed with our stay this time. We were told someone would come to clean the room, but that never happened. We were told someone would connect with us, that never happened. We emailed the general manager and still no response. This hotel is in great condition but needs a THOROUGH cleaning -the rooms and bathrooms. We enjoy the Marriott brand and the staff interactions, but the cleanliness at this hotel was just bad.

• Colleen (7/5): other than the noise the rest of our stay was good - very good location and staff was friendly and helpful doors to the rooms were extremely loud when closed so everytime someone on our floor left or came in their room, our whole room shook and woke us up all night!

Returned to the front desk to be advised we’d have to wait until housekeeping could clean the room. Came back at 8:30 pm to find beds made, floor not vacuumed, bathroom floor and counter with hair on it…only two towels for 4 people. Just not impressed. Also a four floor hotel with one very slow elevator?!?!
