Guest Reviews
- Dan (10/5): Perfect for location, security and cleanliness - Exceptionally clean, well run and friendly
- Piyush (10/5): - Great Last-Minute Find with a Nostalgic Touch!❤️🤩
I was honestly a little worried about staying here after reading some of the Google reviews. But since we planned our trip very last minute, we didn’t have many options — and I chose this hostel mainly because I wanted to relive my school days and enjoy that kind of experience again.
Surprisingly, we had a really great stay! Uncle Dalbir went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. He checked in on us a couple of times just to make sure everything was okay and if we needed anything. His warm hospitality and kind gestures really stood out.
The hostel itself was clean and cozy — no complaints at all! If you're looking for a simple, nostalgic, and welcoming place to stay, I’d definitely recommend this one.
- Junaid (10/5): - Everything is Excellent
- Hyejin (3/5): -
- Shahzan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daryll (1/5): Do not stay here, not worth the price. - Never going back. Rooms has no windows nor aircon. Feels like we are steaming and I can’t breathe. Bed sheets has bad and used old smells. - Julian (8/5): Very good - Courteous staff, fully equipped kitchen, lots of privacy. Our room was very cold.
- Justin (1/5): 0/10 - Nothing was very creepy Owner was nice but very creepy, follows people around and watches when they’re sleeping
- Ian (1/5): No communication - Bad location
Bad everything Bad location
Bad everything
- Shannon (5/5): Passable - It is in a pretty good location, the owner is fairly nice. The place has a weird smell to it, the owner lives there as well and kind of just keeps an eye on whenever you're doing anything, it can make it feel a bit uncomfortable.
- Manjit (10/5): Awsome stay at vernon hostel - Staff was very friendly and helpfull. Nothing to be dislike
- Bliss (10/5): Queen room - Room was comfortable but i could hear someone shuffling outside my bedroom around 1:30am
- Huyen (8/5): - Good service. Have limited bathrooms
- Kevin (8/5): - Air conditioning was not the best
- Kristel (8/5): Very good -
- Marcela (10/5): It was great and I would come again. - Multiple Washrooms, clean area, lounge area, public and private rooms. There’s no cooling system so I had to keep the window open most of the time. Otherwise if you like warm weather in the summer it’s great.
- Sharon (4/5): Disappointing - Location was good. Quiet in the building. No AC, vents or windows in our room. Hot.
- Dirk (5/5): Passable -
- Dan (10/5): Very relaxing and comfortable stay - No breakfast but quiet and very clean
- Jill (10/5): Excellent price for a very clean and friendly hostel experience. 10/10 will return next visit. - Super clean, very friendly owner, great kitchen accomodation, multiple clean bathrooms with good space, comfy bed, clean sheets, Roku TV in the room, good size mini fridge to store your items, place to hang your clothes, well-kept common areas, lots of comfy couches, good selection of community cookware in the shared kitchen with a nice big shared fridge!
The hostel is located near a really great grocery store and lots of cool shops & restaurants. Check-in was quick and efficient, so was check-out! So much better than many experiences I've had at other hotels that cost a lot more, the Vernon Hostel is very affordable and worth every cent.
I stayed in one of the solo rooms with a queen bed because I enjoy privacy for sleeping. It was a small cozy room with everything I needed to feel safe and comfortable while I visited Vernon for a few days. The large mirror in my room was a bonus. Everything was really clean and I felt very secure while I was travelling by myself. At night it was peaceful and quiet. The other patrons were respectful and wonderful to swap stories with as well. The owner had great communication and was very welcoming.
I would highly recommend staying here for anyone who is traveling on a budget and is looking for a good place to rest. No complaints! Truly an all around pleasant experience. Just remember to bring your own towels! :) Parking around this area in town can be a bit hard to find sometimes but not impossible.
- Mackenzie (5/5): Passable - I would not want to stay here alone during off-season. There is a singular toilet/shower that doesn't lock. As a young woman I didn't feel comfortable.
- Joshua (7/5): Good - Friendly hosts, nice facilities and beds. The TV didn't work.
- Thomas (9/5): Great Place! Highly recommended for travellors. - Spacious, clean, all amenities were working in kitchen, big table and comfortable chairs for eating , lounge room good for relaxing. Nothing. Excellent place to stay for night or more.
- Blakely (6/5): Pleasant -
- Bill (10/5): - A little difficult to see the entrance.
- Jody (10/5): Exceptional - Felt safe. Situated downtown, on main road 5 min walk to Frescho groceries, Shoppers Drug Mart, Natures Fare and 3 coffee shops. Walking trail and gas station not far off. As advertised, standard rooms are small be sure to get one with a window to help from feeling cramped in. Easy to fall asleep and stay asleep for light sleepers. Kitchen and washroom are clean and tidy.

- Ariadna (7/5): Exceptionally kind host - The owner was exceptionally kind and friendly. He patiently waited for us to arrive at 1 am because the road from Banff had been closed for 3 hours. Communication was flawless, a solid 10 out of 10. We are extremely grateful that he waited for us to provide the key The room was spacious and decent. We would have appreciated a bit more cleanliness, especially with regards to the fridge
- Émilie (7/5): Good option in Vernon - The place was impeccable, kitchen included. When I was there, there were only 2 other guests, so it was very quiet and we had plenty of space. The hostel is also located next to two grocery stores and plenty of restaurants. Everything was walking distance. Unfortunately, it was not possible to leave bags at reception before check-in or after check-out. Also, while I'm very glad Vernon has a hostel, I did find the place a bit pricey for a bed in a 12-person dorm.
- Daniel (8/5): Very good -

- Mahima (9/5): Amazing host. Good Location. Extremely Clean. - It was really amazing staying at Vernon Hostel, service was very nice and Mr. Balbir was kind enough to guide us with various queries.
Hostel was pretty clean and worth the price. It was hot in the rooms partly because of wildfire, it wasn't a dealbreaker for us because it got better overnight.
- Sahibdeep (1/5): Bad -
- Faith (1/5): Bad - I asked to cancel my booking and the guy on the phone hang up and didn't help me cancel. I called abd asked before that if it's ok that we are running late to check in abd he said yes and hang up
- Plakhotniuk (10/5): Exceptional -
- Atef (1/5): Bad - Nothing Everything
- Richard (1/5): Don't give your credit card number - Since the cancellation was 5 days ,beware most hotels and motels are 2 days cancellations, I've been going to many many hotels, motels hostels, in over 40 years .none was more than 2 days cancellation, i truely believe the owner intends to make money from cancellations in this way be wary. I am worried he has my credit card number and so i have to notify my bank to block the owner from any unauthorized charges he may incur on it
- Kevin (9/5): I came to visit a sick parent and needed a cheap place to stay - worked out well thank you - It's a very nice hostel and in a great location. If the price was about ten percent cheaper I would stay longer but I am currently on a tight budget. The chap who runs it is very friendly and nice. The ventilation was only adequate
- Lyon (7/5): Felt like I was watched like a hawk - No towels
One bathroom was reserved for a woman
Very anal on water on counters Nonstop Indian food being cooked
- Catherine (8/5): - The room and kitchen were clean and staff were helpful and friendly. I was one of few guests at this time, which made it a pretty quiet place to stay. However, the walls are very thin and I think it could be noisy if the rooms were all full.
- Dave (10/5): Exceptional -

- Matus (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Bardia (6/5): Pleasant -
- Satya (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sheena (4/5): will not go back. We were treated like college students in a dormitory with strict landlord. - i like the location weird vibe. The owner always follow and watch what we do. We were told not to make any mess and be fast using the washrooms because others are coming. I should’ve booked and pay extra for comfort of having a place to stay where you can freely move.
- Rezansoff (8/5): Very good -
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Staff has temper. Not willing to change plans. Would not recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very helpful and friendly nice clean room and bathroom..
- M (10/5): - I guess best hostel in the Valley. The energy is amazing.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I didnt like the snorer next to me..but i guess it was a hostel.
- Customer (2/5): - They just want money and that is never be good Share wash room and everything is out of order
- Whysuffer (2/5): - Nothing is good no window and smell is not good, how can traveller have a good sleep?
- Jess (6/5): - The Vernon Hostel was an interesting stay. Next time I would spend the extra $20-40 per night to stay at a motel or hotel with a private bathroom, towels and window. My partner and I were looking for a unique experience and it was just weird. We paid extra for the deluxe room, the bed was clean but soft, it was quiet but the walls are thin, and no window and it was hot in the room. The dorm was adjacent to the common area and was separated by a curtain which anyone could access. The owner was helpful but noticed him policing the two bathrooms and one available shower. Overall, it was fine, I’m tired, it just felt as though we were staying in someone’s converted office building.
- Robin (2/5): Illegal rental room - 1. Cancellation date expired 2 days prior to my room reservation so impossible to cancel after pressing the "buy" button.
2. Shared washroom is Ok in hostel as manager explained. But rental room is a store room as it contains no windows in any of the 4 walls. This is in contravention with health and security regulations. In emergency situations, one would be trapped in the room.
3. I requested manager to refund, even for 1 night. He refused, quoting that cancelation date already expired ( but it expired before I even booked the room).
4. I would appreciate Hotel.com would help me to get the refund for me as
I never stayed in the room for the 2 nights. I came back to the hostel to give the keys back to the manager the next day.
5. I am currently also taking this up with VISA and they informed me that
hotel.com has not processed the charge and that hotel.com should refund my money as the quality of the room is not fit to live in.
Kindly advise when I would receive the refunds.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay - The closest you could get to enlightenment. Great late check in. Looks like a night club, feels like home.
- Robert (10/5): Don’t panic and bring your towel. - Clean and quiet. Full kitchen. Inexpensive. Ok, so this is not the Hotel Vancouver but for the price it’s better than you could expect. There are others living here so you need to have the ability to be quiet yourself, be respectful to others, and clean up after yourself.
Bring your own towel and pad lock.
- Terry and Alice (8/5): Best basic accommodation in Vernon - We needed a low cost room for a few days and this hostel fit the bill. The bed was comfortable and the bedding super clean. Our host provided us with an extra quilt, as the room was unheated, and we were toasty warm.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice hostel. Nice room. No parking except the main street which is metered during the day.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not worth it - I stayed here in the off season (Oct) and the place was dead. For a week I was the only person there. I don't recommend staying in the dorm if you're a solo female, there isn't even a door... The dorm is separated by just a curtain from the main common area. The kitchen is new and it's actually good, probably the only positive thing. The whole vibe is a bit suss to be honest. The owner/manager is kind of creepy and intrusive, I could hear the adult films he was watching in his room loud as day in the kitchen in the mornings. Very gross. He was pretty much never there to help or answer questions and one night I had to let a German couple in to their room because he was MIA for 5 hours. Overall an alright stay, but I'd probably just stay in a hotel next time for a few extra dollars a night, this place is very over priced for what you get. Not the worst hostel I've stayed in but probably up there in the bottom 3.
- Bert (8/5): Location - Excellent location, quiet. Needs a few finishing touches.
