Samantha S (10/5): Top notch - The stay was above and beyond. Even though I went for work my nights were so pleasant I didn’t want to return home. Cozy! It reminded me of my parents’s Tudor style house growing up. So peaceful. I saw deer eating food nearby then two adorable dairy cows. Very clean devoid of any strange smells to mask anything. Impeccable service. I got a breakfast baggie for bc I had to go to work early which was yummy. Thank you very much.

REBECCA (2/5): Never again - I was given a room with a twin bed, no air conditioning—just a noisy old fan that I could not use because it was too loud—and not even a television. I was offered to upgrade for $39/night to have air conditioning Honestly, any budget hotel has better amenities

Jose (10/5): - The place has a special meaning for guests visiting neighboring Philmont Scout Ranch but it will be a welcomed getaway for anyone seeking a nature themed Western getaway. The inn keepers were welcoming and courteous. The family table home made breakfast was a highlight of the stay. The rooms were down to earth luxurious .

Charles (10/5): - In the morning if you enjoy bird watching please go to the east front patio. Put on your Merlin app. And see how many lovely birds join you while drinking your coffee. Next time we go we will be getting up earlier so that we can enjoy the sun and birds. The view is so lovely and listening to the wind travel through the mountains is just so wonderful. Not hearing traffic is just wonderful. And star glazing is soooo special. Thank you Kimberly and staff for providing such a lovely unique experience!!

Upon arrival, The host gave us a property tour and showed us the hiking trails and the best places to watch sunset and sunrise. Breakfast was great. We had a wonderful stay and will stay here again when we are in the area next time.

Virginia (10/5): Most excellent visit! - This was a top notch experience. The establishment is in beautiful shape with tons of history. Their friendliness and accommodations went beyond all expectations! When my husband checked in, he explained I was exhausted and had caught a cold. Polly immediately set me up with an Epsom Salt Essential Oil deep tub soak! Then for breakfast, she made a diabetic friendly meal just for me. We are both flabbergasted by the hospitality. Hope to return.
Duane (10/5): - This is the 3rd stay here over the last 3 years. Very tranquil, quiet, and relaxing. I have stayed in three different rooms and they all have great western ambiance. Nice trails around the property to take a walk and view the Tooth of Time or meadows with deer, antelope, and a bear, along with the occasional cow or horse are roaming about. Highly recommended.
Constance (10/5): - This is a lodge converted from n historic home out in a beautiful and blissfully peaceful rural setting about six miles north of Cimarron, NM. The building is surrounded by mule deer, prong-horn antelope and grazing cattle. The structure is in the pueblo style with comfortable southwestern decor and historical photos and art. There is a courtyard area for guests to enjoy with many types of flowering plants and hummingbirds feeding. The staff is cordial and willing to patiently assist or answer almost any questions. The atmosphere here is so comfortable I cannot wait to return and plan to in the near future
Don (10/5): - We stayed two nights while travelling to meet a crew coming off the trail at Philmont. Wonderful experience...great property, excellent hosts, terrific breakfast each day. We particularly loved walking out back for an up close view of the iconic Tooth of Time. We would love to stay here again.

Linda (6/5): - The inside was nicely appointed with art works, and the home was unique. The room was large, but stained ceilings. The entire exterior was not well maintained. Rotting garage doors, m inimally maintained grounds, and many things needing repairs. Seems they are just not able to keep it in prime condition. Gravel driveways, hard to get luggage in and out. The setting was breath taking, home was amazing at one time, but needs more than the people who own it seem to be able to put into it. Breakfast was OK, but not it could have been. Glad we saw it, but would not stay again.

LARRY (10/5): - This is a lovely historic facility in a beautiful setting beneath the Philmont Tooth-Of-Time. The staff was delightful. This is a very peaceful inn and breakfast is gourmet quality. Each suite has its own unique quality and beauty. The common areas are very comfortable and make you feel right at home with its tasteful western and historic decor.
janice (10/5): Picture Perfect - This was one of the most unique stays we have ever experienced. Our Innkeeper, Annette, phoned us the afternoon of our arrival. She was checking to see approximately what time we would be there. She told us how to get through the security gate, and told us where we might eat before our arrival. As we pulled in, she greeted us on the front porch. We were invited in, and she gave us a tour explaining where everything was, breakfast schedule, etc. We had brought some food to eat after settling in. She told us she would set out some plates for us to use when we were ready. I have never been welcomed like that…she was amazing! We stayed in the Beaubien guest room. It was small, but very adequate. We knew that it was small based off of the description, so no surprises. This place is perfectly tranquil and peaceful. We loved the mountain views, the courtyard, the interior decor. So relaxing. Annette served a wonderful breakfast both mornings. If we ever visit this area again, it will be our choice location! It was a convenient distance from lots of things, including the Enchanted Circle drive that we enjoyed very much!

Fred (10/5): - I come out to this part of the country one a year. First time I have stayed at the Casa. Stayed here one night. Inn keeper was attentive and gracious. Facilities are rustic with a wealth of history. Breakfast was excellent. Views are breath taking. I will be back.

Exceptional homemade breakfast. Jan is a wonderful host, all the staff were friendly. Great place for a quiet retreat, spent an hour writing in the garden listening to the fountains and the hummingbirds.

She was front desk, chef & waitress and concierge all rolled in to one. She called us the day we were arriving to confirm our arrival time & instruct us on the workings of the inn. Very knowledgeable. The property & room were very unique. They thought of everything to make you comfortable in the room. The courtyard was was lovely & the views are wonderful. Highly recommend. It is “out there” (10 minute drive to restaurants) as far as location goes & that’s one of the things we loved about it. We were sorry we were only staying there one night. 👍

Go down the road to the St James & have a drink, grab a bite to eat, then thank your lucky stars that afterward you get to go back to this historic inn for the night. Proprietor Allison knows her stuff. Beware - no AC - but nights are cool & comfortable.

Kenneth (10/5): Wonderful Bed & Breakfast in beautiful setting - We stayed here one night before checking into the Philmont Training Center for a week. What a beautiful Bed & Breakfast! You don't really see it from the road so make sure to be paying attention as you approach the driveway. The driveway to the Casa took us by antelope and wild turkeys and once at the house, we were greeted outside by our host for the evening. After a brief history of the site, we were shown to the Webster room. There's no A/C but a fan was in the room and it cooled down very nicely in the evening so that we were quite comfortable. We enjoyed watching the wildlife outside and there's a stunning view of the mountains. The courtyard was another lovely place to relax with hummingbirds and the beautiful gardens. Breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed talking with the other guests at the B&B. This would be a great place to come to really relax and enjoy nature for several days. Highly recommended if your travels take you to Cimarron!

Barbara (10/5): - We stayed two nights one week apart dropping and picking son up at nearby Philmont camp. Strong historical component and furnishings. During our first stay, wildlife was abundant. Hummingbird feeders attract dozen plus hummingbirds at a time. Quite something to see! Wild turkeys, jack rabbits and antelope were also spotted. The wildlife alone is worth the stay. Our second trip had less abundant wildlife sightings as it had rained. Breakfast was good during both visits. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Enjoyed conversations with other guests over breakfast.
Pam (8/5): - The Casa Del Gavalin is a cozy place with some interesting history. The room was clean and comfortable. The only suggestion I would make is to fix or replace the ceiling fan so that when it’s on it doesn’ click all night long. The room was clean and comfortable. Also, the room adjacent to ours needs to have the door fit in the frame better. It was an extremely windy day and the door kept banging in its frame starting at 6 AM which meant no more sleep for us. I know it’s often windy there so this would be a good fix for future guests! Breakfast was amazing and the setting was beautiful!

Betty (10/5): Natural Perfection - Out of the way in glorious nature. Drive from Springer to Cimarron, then south thru the enormous Boy Scout Base, and it's on the right.down a ranch road. You must absolutely tour the St James Hotel; it is more Wild West Museum and Cowboy Restaurant than hotel.

Jean (6/5): Beautiful setting - Loved getting acquainted with this remote historic hotel. The antelope in the front area was charming. Disappointed that when it rained the windows in our room, even though closed, were a waterfall that couldn't be stopped. A staff member provided us two medium towels and left it at that. In the meantime, we mopped up the floor and built a barricade to prevent the water from going under the bed and furniture. We were disappointed also that the young man that greeted us could not answer our questions about the history of the hotel. Breakfast was at 8:30----pretty late for us and no alternate choices. When we told the staff we were leaving, there wasn't a "Thanks for coming." Next trip to Cimarron we will stay at the St. James.
