• HARUKA (10/5): - 近くで主人の仕事があったため、利用させて頂きました。 車で伺ったのですが、駐車してる時から気にかけて頂き、予約名を伝えるとすぐ荷物を持って館内に案内してくださいました。 偶然空きがあったとのことで、部屋のグレードをあげてくださいました。 ちょうど新緑の時期ということもあったので、露天からの景色がとてもよかったです。 従業員さんの数が限られているのか、皆さん忙しく動かれていたのですが、接客は素晴らしかったです。 流石良い旅館だなと思いました。 様々なサービスがあったのですが、主人の仕事の都合上利用できなかったものもあるため、また次伺う際は館内でゆっくり過ごしたいなと思いました。 また利用させていただきます。

• Makiko (8/5): セミ・オールインクルーシブとでも言うか - 昔ながらの温泉宿に、今風のサービスを足して工夫しています。付随のサービスが充実しているので、宿泊代の他にほとんどお金を使わずにすんで、結果的にお得。オールインクルーシブに近い感覚でした。

• Rusholme (10/5): Great Family Stay - We stayed as 3 couples with 2 children in the room. We booked three rooms and we had a great stay at the hotel. The hotel onsen was really good, separated into mens & women - it's swapped over each day so you can experience both. There are also several private onsen that you can book as couples. The breakfast teppanyaki was stunning, several courses and quite a lot of food. The location in the town was really good and you can easily walk around the local area. I recommend driving to the pedestrian suspension bridge over a dam nearby (about 10 mins drive) as it is quite breathtaking to walk across this.

• dt415 (10/5): Relax and be pampered - Kissho Yamanaka is located in Yamanaka onsen town, a 20 minute drive from the Kaga train station. This ryokan (resort) offers a convenient free shuttle to and from the station, but be sure to book a pickup and drop-off time. The amenities this ryokan offers are almost endless and the relaxing environment makes you want to stay here forever. The is afternoon pancake, large hot spring bath, 3 private hot springs which can be reserved for 50 minutes, happy hour, nightly Kaga pudding dessert, and classic Japanese entertainment keeps your mind away from any stresses you might have. The resort is located near beautiful stream and lush forest. A Kaiseki (classic course) dinner is offered as part of the package. Kissho Yamanaka is a perfect place to stop by for a night or two if you're en route from the rich traditional cities of Kyoto to Kanazawa.

• Koro (10/5): Highlight of our Japan trip - We had a wonderful stay here in August. We were warmly greeted by an English-speaking staff member and shown to our traditional Japanese room, which was absolutely lovely with a river view and peaceful minimalist furniture. I was concerned when I booked because it was a smoking room but there was no smell at all. We reserved the private stone bath and it was an amazing experience. Food and snacks were good and abundant. Futons were made up for us while we were at dinner and we had a great sleep. We only spent one night and it would have been better to have had two to enjoy the room and all the hotel has to offer. The Western breakfast was especially fun with course after course cooked right in front of you with guests seated around a stovetop. The area is within easy reach of Kanazawa and I would highly recommend visiting the temple grounds of Natadera on your way from Kaga to the hotel. We ended up paying around 60 euros for a taxi to take us there and wait for us for an hour, but it was worth it for what was the highlight of a 2 week trip to Japan. There's a nice British guy at the tourist office at the Kaga station that can help you arrange this with a taxi driver. It's not cheap, but when you factor in the cost of a luxurious dinner, breakfast, and private bath (not to mention tea, snacks, yukata rental, all free), it was a good value stay and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Dinner in the Benihana style restaurant with the beef dish was outstanding as were the Japanese meals. Staff was very warm and receptive. Only issue for us was that all rooms allowed smoking and although they deodorized the room, the straw floors absorb smoke which bothered us a little. All-in-all a great stay and would definitely return.

• muuuuu (10/5): Great hospitality, very delicious food - I wanted to take my husband to a relaxing trip with lots of good food, and he also wanted to walk around the shopping street nearby. I chose this place because I read that the food here is delicious, and it really was!! Both dinner and breakfast are full Japanese course. There were several options you can choose for drinks. The seafood is very fresh because this town is located near the sea and is famous for its fishing ports. My husband was very satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. The lady that served us was a very professional nice lady, she moves so fast but elegant, and she explained about every food in detail. The dinner/breakfast place was very spacey so we was not bothered at all by the other people, it felt very private. We chose a room with a private onsen, and my husband really loves it as well. The onsen in our room is a half-rotenburo (half open air onsen, which means it’s indoor but it has a very big window so you can look at the scenery outside and breath fresh air while enjoying the bath) This hotel has a sister hotel at the other side of the town, and they provide a free transport between the two hotels for the people who stayed at either of these hotel. We had a little mishap here. We walked along the pathway of the forest nearby to enjoy the autumn leaves and arrived at its sister hotel. We asked the sister hotel’s receptionist whether we can take the free transport back to our hotel because we didn’t want to walk back, and he told us to wait a few minutes since the car is currently out sending someone else back to the hotel. We waited for about 30 minutes and we wondered why the car hasn’t returned yet, and it turns out the receptionist forgot about us lol. He immediately arranged one so we safely returned to our hotel. The staff at our hotel apologized alot for the mishap. I think they were notified of the mistake the sister hotel made because the staff literally ran out of the lobby to welcome us back when they saw our car coming. The service was also really great so we did not feel bitter at all despite the small mistake made by their sister hotel. They have a free service of Japanese-style snack and tea at the lobby. They also have free foot-onsen near the lobby, and also free rental of yukata (summer kimonos) for women. Overall it was a very delightful experience: really great full and it feels like we received a lot of hospitality. I will stay in this hotel again if we have another chance to visit Kaga Onsen.

• j00lic (6/5): Average - Kissho Yamanaka Onsen Hotel is your average, run of the mill onsen hotel, but located slightly away from the main onsen town centre, along the river. It is nice and quiet, and has adequate baths. Free ice popsicles provided in the bath changing rooms is a nice touch, but does not take away the very average quality of meals served. Overall, ok for the price, but nothing oustanding.

It took a while getting there by public transport from Tokyo but the place is well worth it. the walk along the river is a must activity if the weather is good. It is a very nice hotel, building and the staffs too. but they try too hard to be extra fancy and ending up giving us too much 'service' which was basically more and more food. tea and sweets at chack-in, more sweets and fresh fruits in the room as well as tea/coffee and taste of sake, afternoon snack of pancake, after bath ice-lolly and beer, food voucher to use in the town, huge dinner we couldn't finish, more sweets added to the room table on top of the ones we didn't touch earlier, evening snack we didn't even ask for... maybe it's better to think of other 'service' that's not food or drink. big bath area was clean and really relaxing. and the cnahging room was kept tidy all the time too. we had our dinner and breakfast in a private room in a restaurant, with a nice view of the small garden. the lady attended our table was professional and friendly with so much extra informations about what we are eating. we had an exelent time at the table with her. the room we stayed had a big bed and a tatami room for futon-bed space plus small extra room with private outside onsen bath. we stayed as a family of 4 but I think the room was was big enough for few more guests. we had a good relaxing stay.

• W2k (10/5): Fantastic ryokan in lush, beautiful location - This is a lovely ryokan in some of the most serene and picturesque surroundings I have ever seen. The staff were very helpful and really tried to make my stay the most pleasant possible, even as a solo traveler with only limited skills in Japanese. Luxurious in the sublime Japanese way, don't set your sights on trying to make this like staying in a western hotel. Immerse yourself in the culture and uniqueness of the location and setting to make your stay all the better. There are little events throughout the day like afternoon tea, a free glass of beer in the lobby and even live performances to entertain if you don't care to venture out into the nearby (and very cute) town of Yamanaka-onsen. My stay was a bit pricey because of the high season. I'd love to come back when it's a little less busy. However, the lushness of the landscape and pleasant temperatures make this a very appealing destination in spring. Some of the more traditional Japanese cuisine, like Natto, can take a bit of getting used to and may not fit everyone's taste. I paid using my American Express card which they were happy to accept.
• theworldmyoyester (8/5): Delightful hotel great hospitality - Service is excellent & very thoughtful. There were 2 gentlemen outside the hotel to greet us and help us park our car. There’s complimentary coffee (freshly ground beans), tea and water just after reception & some kind of jelly/aspic in the morning and late afternoon. Guests can partake a complimentary afternoon tea of pancakes (prepared a la minute @ the teppanyaki restaurant) and tea/ coffee between2-4pm. Room is clean and bed linen was clean thick and crisp;though westerners may not be used to the tiny flat pillow but this can be addressed by asking for more pillows. Dinner was kaiseki & it was excellent. So was the Japanese breakfast I opted for. There’s a western option for breakfast . Some staff are able to speak English well while others struggled to communicate ( using Google translate helps)...
• Miracosta (10/5): Must try spa! - We stayed at other sister hotel, Kagari Kissho and visited for Kissho Spa. They have couple massage called "Pair Course" for $20,000 for about 2 hours course. WE instead took individual massage for $10K each with same couple room. Spa was brand new and BEAUTIFUL! I think they offered spa only visits (not staying), you can take their large bathroom too. Hotel seems much better renovated than Kagari Kissho although Kagari Kissho has better location close to small downtown. I loved Kagari kissho's decor, it was beautiful. Hotel offered to take back and forth to each hotel with hotel shuttle for spa use which was great service. I was very impressed with their service and definitely recommends to stay either one of them.
• ricepapergirl (10/5): Amazing room, great hospitality, lovely location! - We chose Yamanaka Onsen out of the 4 main towns in Kaga Onsen (we've been to Yamashiro Onsen two years ago but it was only okay) because of the gorge, and this hotel seemed the best for our purposes (we were 4 adults and 1 one-year-old, and wanted a room with both futons and proper beds and included a onsen in the room). The hotel provides free shuttle bus from the train station (and back, around 20-25mins journey), and treat you with a very high level of hospitality the moment you step in. We were shown to the lobby lounge to sit down and given a hot calming drink whilst the staff handled the passports and check-in processes (quite uncommon for us in Japan!) and there are loads of little "service" like the free pancakes at the teppanyaki restaurant for tea, free drinks at the lounge, and the yukata dressing-up if we had wanted to use them. Our room was perfect for our group: my husband and I wanted a traditional futon-on-tatami room for us and our little baby (it was the living room space which got transformed to a bedroom at night), and we also wanted a western bedroom for my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. It came with a huge comfy bed, a high-tech massage chair (so. good.) a little sitting area, and an amazing attached rotenburo onsen bathtub and bathroom. Plus, the layout was well-thought-out so that both groups could use the bathroom and toilets without disturbing each other by an intricate system of different passageways and doors. There was a mini-fridge with complimentary plate of fruit, complimentary tea (two types! kagaboucha and green tea leaves), kettle, 2 tvs (one with netflix?!!), a full array of traditional sweet desserts, even a small flask of sake in the room, all complimentary! We explored the area by ourselves, the gorge was beautiful and the town was very quaint and quiet, wonderfully relaxing after a few days of hectic travelling. Dinner was so amazing, we had it in our own private room at the restaurant (comes with the western-japanese room package), and they provided a special seat for my one-year-old and prepared special food for her, which I'm very touched for. This was definitely the best hotels we've stayed at in our entire japan trip and I would love to come back again!

Around Ryokan, you can relax with nature and human love.
• Smurfcity (8/5): Great river view - This was a fantastic Japanese Onsen experience. I'm not sure my wife and I were prepared for the structure of the onsen experience, sa this was our first, but we soon got into the rhythm of things. The Japanese onsen routine is generally: eat, soak, eat, soak , eat some more, and finally soak some more. At check-in the ryokan asked you to select the dinner and breakfast restaurants for each day, gives you the schedule for the public baths, afternoon pancakes, tea, seaweed jelly and free beer. They will also schedule transportation for trips to nearby temples, or sister ryokan for soaks there. It is a dizzing check-in. We had a room with a private bath. It was a fabulous experience. Very efficient and courteous staff. Would do it again.
• DTSydney (10/5): Fantastic place to relax - We stayed in a traditional Japanese room for a couple of nights. The tariff includes breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, so is very reasonable. Service was excellent and the food was great. We tried both Japanese and Western breakfasts and each was carefully prepared and presented. Dinner was a multi-course affair in the two restaurants we tried. There are baths for guests but also three private onsens which you have to book. The town itself is small but worth a wander. The walk by the river is definitely worth doing, very scenic. The hotel has regular pickups and dropoffs to Kagaonsen train station. Definitely worth spending one or two nights here.
• petercJ6576UB (6/5): Room and food are great, though lacking the warmth I expect from a ryokan - This ryokan is located in Yamanaka Onsen, Kaga-shi, Ishikawa Prefecture. It was the last ryokan we stayed in the recent Chubu Trip and as a result we had already got a lot of good experience and likewise raising our expectation high when we arrived. Just beside the beautiful Kakusenkai Ravine, the entrance to the ryokan is certainly impressive, with two big lanterns with the name of the ryokan greeting us. Going straight in there are two large gold lion statues welcoming (or guarding?) in the middle. The overall setting is very grand and impressive. We were shown to the lobby, with the okami giving us a towel to clean our hands and a cup of green tea to relax, while she handled the registration and arranged the time for our meals. While waiting we took the time to check on the information, and found that this ryokan is part of a group with also ryokan and hotels in Izu and Okinawa. Maybe worth visiting some of them in the future. Our room 爛漫 is located on the top floor, which is the special room in the corner. Once through the door there is a large area for changing shoes, leading to the Japanese anteroom, while on the side it was decorated like the outdoor Japanese garden with cobblestones, leading to other rooms, similar to traditional Japanese house setting. This is an interesting design which I think would bring up memories for many locals on their home when they are young. Through the anteroom we entered the Japanese style living room, where there was some snacks, sake, and fruit prepared for us. If there is family this can be converted to a bedroom in the evening as well to accommodate more people, as the maximum the room can serve six guests, with two in the anteroom and two in this Japanese living room. The wow came when we went into the bedroom. It was by far the largest I have ever been. In a western style setting, there are windows on two sides of the wall, a big comfortable bed, a sofa to relax and watch TV, and a state-of-the-art massage chair! Now we can relax after bathing and enjoy the massage. The bathroom is quite nice too with high-end amenities, and leading out to the semi-open bath, which is a stone bath looking out to the river and at night it was a very calm and smoothing experience admiring the lights of the houses along the river and onsen street. As part of the complimentary service the ryokan also had an afternoon tea, and we went to the teppanyaki restaurant, where the chef is preparing fresh pancakes for guests. We had a lovely afternoon tea with nice pancakes and coffee, before we went to the public bath. The baths are big with a huge inlet dumping spring water into the pool, which is like a waterfall. On the day the ryokan is not too busy, so there is only a few people and I had a good privacy bathing in the big pool, before moving to the semi-open bath to further enjoy. Nothing particularly fancy or special, it was nonetheless a good public bath I have been to. Our dinner is served in the special restaurant Chihiro reserved for guests staying in special and deluxe rooms. We are seated at the best table at the back, with the okami attending and explaining each dish. Starting with the famous Kaga plum wine, which is very good, we were fortunate to eat again the in-season female crab. The preparation in my opinion is of an even higher level than the previous ones we had in other ryokan, as the vinegar was prepared into jelly and then sprinkled on the crab, without having to dip the crab meat in the vinegar to affect the texture. There are also gold flakes sprinkled to add to the premium. A great start and putting us in heaven straightaway. Then came the appetizers, involving eight different delicacies of the season. Unfortunately the okami's English was not very good and I could not make out most of what she said. Apart from the really fresh and tasty food, the plating is also one of the most beautiful in my experience. The utensils used to serve, how the chef used leaves and flowers to complement, the color of the different things is also a big feast and contributed to a phenomenal experience. The boiled dish has some wild mushroom, with a tofu skin wrapping and crab meat on top, with some celery and yuzu shreds to add further flavors and freshness. It is light, delicate dish which is a great example of the finesse of the chef. Next is the sashimi with big shrimp, squid and Japanese amberjack. The sashimi is very fresh and on the side there are also different condiments to pair, apart from the typical soy sauce and wasabi. Then there are the sushi, with the two pieces being tuna and red seabream which are so good and fresh, with strong flavors of the fish and simply another explosion in the mouth bringing in huge satisfaction. The grill dish is a fish grilled with miso sauce, but unfortunately I don't know what exactly is the fish. However, it is very tasty with a nice texture, firm but not tough and the flavors are not being sidelined by the miso taste. Next we have the most interesting dish of the night, something I have never tried before. It is essentially a steamed seabream but stuffed with fillings. I could not identify the exactly are those, and the texture is kind of loose. On the taste it is quite light to balance with the fish meat. Not something exceptional but certainly unique. Then we have the deep-fried dish which included green pepper, a Kaga signature dish with a piece of seaweed wrapping something like fish roll, and then a piece of seabream. Even though it is deep-fried, you won't feel a hint of oiliness as evidenced by the piece of paper underneath which you don't see a big oil stain. This is another testimony of the skills of the chef. The marinated dish has some fish roes, turnips and cucumber. A refreshing small plate to help clean the palate after the different seafood earlier to prepare for the meat, which is a piece of duck cooked with yam, mushroom, tofu, carrot and ginseng. The duck is braised well not to feel tough or chewy on texture, with a nice gamey taste, and the vegetables provided a good supplement to enhance the flavors. Wrapping it up there is a rice cooked with the crab yolk, with miso soup and pickles. We were all very full by then but the rice is so good that we finished the whole bowl and everything. Dessert is seasonal fruit with a sorbet, with a piece of Japanese pudding. In terms of variety, food quality and plating as I mentioned this might be the best kaiseki I had so far. After a nice sleep the next morning we had another wonderful breakfast, with assortment of fresh vegetable salad, grilled fish, pickles, egg and boiled tofu and mushroom, as well as fresh fruit. The two of us are really spoiled for such great food. If I have to pick something to criticize is that surprisingly there was no one come to show us off when we were leaving. After settling the payment, we simply push our luggage and walked out, then I have to go across the street to get my car and drive back to pick up our stuff. All the while there was no one attending to us. For a ryokan I think that is simply unheard of and unacceptable, and got a big red mark unfortunately for our overall experience. Don't know it was an oversight or not but they must improve. My spent 78,800 yen for the stay and meals, which is not cheap but considering the hardware, comfort and food I would say it is worth it. If only the service could be better and warmer towards foreigners it would be a ryokan I would definitely re-visit and recommend. The overall rating is 7.3/10.
• Linda (10/5): A relaxing hotel - The staff there was very nice and helpful. There was an English speaking staff member. The room was very spacious and clean. The dinner and breakfast were wonderful. There's local shops, but no shopping centers. A good place to just relax.
