Guest Reviews
- Peter (10/5): - If one is seeking a beautiful and quiet country inn located in the center of the Cotswolds, this is the place. One should have an auto to enable you to travel to all nearby villages and cities. We booked available taxis during our three day stay.
- Richard (8/5): Great for a Short Stay - The property is beautiful. It is in a great area for calling and the flowers are everywhere. The only thing I’d say are a few things. One can be fixed and one cannot without a lot of change.
The thing that can be improved upon is the food compared to the other 8 properties on our trip all over the UK. The Slaughter Inn was number 3 on our most expensive, meaning 2 were more and 6 were cheaper. That being said, the food although not bad or inedible by a long shot, was pretty average and a charge for a sauce in the beef seemed petty and wasn’t applied anywhere else. The staff were wonderful, accommodating and very pleasant. The place was well cared for.
The things that can & can’t be improved on was the shower. First, it had great hotness and power, but my husband had to turn it off and on in our room, the Keats. The knob in the faucet needs fixing. Also the bathroom was huge, the biggest by far of our stay, but the shower size —why was it so small when built???? It is roughly 30” x 30”! You hit your head when you shave your legs. Also one tiny, tiny metal soap holder! I can’t stand when hotels give you no shelving for your shampoo, conditioner, razor, face wash. AND no washcloths as in the U.S. they are standard. One other thing was no tv service or even chrome cast to watch tv on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Paramount tv etc. All other hotels let you sign into your account.
- Andrew (10/5): excellent -
- Carol (8/5): All in all very good apart from quality of food. - Everything was lovely. Food was expensive for what it was and sticky toffee pudding was a bit of dry cake with no sauce at all.
- Gabriel (10/5): -
- Silvia (10/5): - Posizione magnifica, un paradiso di tranquillità ma molto comodo per raggiungere tutti i paesi da vedere. Nulla
- Robert (6/5): The staff were helpful and friendly, however, having suffered disturbed nights throughout our 3 night stay, I’m not sure - The location was excellent We had a very noisy person above us, who walked around their room throughout the night, so we were woken up by very heavy footfall and very loud creaking floorboards, so not conducive to a good nights rest
- georgia (7/5): -
- Deepak (10/5): - Peaceful Location
- GeoCF (7/5): -
- Deborah (9/5): -
- Joan&Alan (10/5): Beyond expectations - The location, the staff, the food, the room. All excellent. Nothing.
- Frederick (3/5): Mediocre - Location and beauty of the surroundings - exceptional. I think it’s over-priced for what they offer. Its a classic example of modern British hospitality. The food menue in the restaurant was no different to any pub in the country. Steak, fish&chips, cod, … might as well have gone to the pub around the corner. The lentil pie was burnt and refunded.
Breakfast was better but for the price, I expected better. Service - they tried hard but honestly just don’t get it. I came to this hotel with my family as the Booking.com reviews were positive even v good. Honestly I don’t see what there is to rave about OTHER than the location which I think masks everything. Walk in Lower and Upper Slaughter and you realise the inn is part of a chain. All the same, modern, poor interiors, smart but lacking in any class or anything different from what has become England’s standard offer. Fine but then the price should adjust.
- Hal (10/5): - Great staff. Lovely room. Great food in the restaurant. Trying to work out how I can fit in another visit!🤣
- Kate (8/5): -
- Jessica (10/5): Charming stay in a fairytale area - The place is gorgeous! Perfect location. Magical gardens. The old mill was feet away as well as some amazing houses and the manor. The room was small to my preference but honestly it was great for one day.
- Georgina (8/5): Characterful dog-friendly Cotswolds retreat. - Beautiful characterful inn surrounded by quaint countryside and walks. Delicious food and spacious rooms. Big bath! Also dog friendly! Some aspects were a bit tatty or needed some maintenance. I loved the large freestanding bath tub but the taps and the footing/seals were in need of love. We also had ants invade our bathroom, must have been a gap in the floor or wall somewhere. Considering the price I expected a bit better.
- Sara (10/5): Lovely stay - Lovely location, friendly staff and great food. Breakfast service was very slow and there seemed to be kid’s camp / babysitting service in there which was very loud and chaotic.
- Michelle (10/5): We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning. - From start to finish of our stay was wonderful. Couldn't fault anything. Staff were very accommodating. The setting was idyllic.
- Tracey (9/5): We had a lovely 3 night break at this property. - Location, Beautiful surroundings. Staff were very helpful. Room was very spacious and quaint, nice bathroom. Bed was to soft
- loretta (7/5): - The location and property are amazing. The garden, too. I think the breakfast room and the bedrooms could be nicer and of higher standards for the price and the setting. Service was very slow at breakfast and lunch
- Niall (7/5): -
- Charles and Camilla (8/5): Brilliant location with pretty village to walk round - Breakfast was fine, well cooked and served at the table. Nothing
- Ana (9/5): A repetir. - Simpatia dos funcionários, localização, decoração. O pequeno almoço também era ótimo. Algum barulho durante a noite/de manhã - ficámos no rés do chão e ouvia se bastante as pessoas a andar no andar de cima.
- Gong (10/5): -
- Deborah (10/5): - Beautiful Garden and location.
Very nice and big room.
Very quiet.
I loved it!
- michael (5/5): Could be a great place to stay but lacking attention to detail in most areas. - The location is excellent. Spacious setting in a beautiful Cotswold village. Decent breakfast, but otherwise, food disappointing. The room was satisfactory, but quite stark, lacking personal touches eg no cushions on the sofa. Tea/coffee facilities good but water only available in bathroom upstairs for washing cups, filling kettle. No refrigerator, which would have been useful. Lots of cobwebs, especially in bedroom.
Birthday meal in main restaurant was poor. 2 courses sent back as inedible. Overcooked main meal (risotto) and dessert over- microwaved.
Some staff quite untidy and slow to respond.
Reception staff couldn’t help when I asked if they could find me a phone charger. A bit of a ‘computer says no’ moment. Kitchen staff came to my rescue fortunately. Staff training a priority.
- keith (10/5): A beautiful place to stay. - The welcome we received was extraordinarily very good. Our physical limitations due to age were noted without us commenting and we were upgraded to Accommodation to suit our needs. There was nothing to dislike about this place. It really was exceptional.
- BobW (9/5): - The relaxed atmosphere, staff very good. Enjoyed the breakfasts and dinners. Suited our taste for location. Th The prices of food and drinks were high even for a good hotel. Had a problem getting a table in the garden, although it was Sunday and a beautiful day
- STEVE (8/5): Was great but not exceptional - Excellent breakfast For the cost would have expected service levels to meet a 5 star offering( ie no parking space when arrived , having to find staff to order drinks food etc ) just fell way short of oricepoint and 5 star.. shame as location is stunning !
- Suzanne (6/5): Pleasant - Beautiful location Service poor not enough staff in bar/restaurant area.
- George (8/5): -
- melanie (10/5): - Outstanding everything
- James (10/5): -
- Vickie (8/5): -
- Martin (9/5): -
- Racquel (9/5): Lovely Locaton perfect for walking into other villages unlike other hotels which were just off the A roads or middle of - Fab location for walking , easy parking and staff very attentive. Nothing of major concern but just a few small missed corners of dusting in our cottage around the beams which could be worth a mention to housekeeping but otherwise very clean , mattress on the sofa bed could of been better quality/thicker but was fine for my daughter
- Daniel (8/5): -
- Lucy (7/5): - Location The property is lovely but if you’re staying over night it is a very old building and we had a room over the bar so we could hear the conversations of those below us and made it hard to get to sleep in the evening
- Luke (10/5): -
- Alex (10/5): Lovely place in amazing location - Lovely place in a great location, would love to come back It was perfect
- Olly (10/5): Great weekend stay! - Food, drinks and accommodation ! NA
- Courtney (10/5): -
- Elizabeth Jessica (8/5): Picturesque location and character filled In. With friendly and helpful staff - Beautiful location and lovely accommodation but very expensive and touristy area. Great access to local walking trails and lovely, helpful staff. Number of tourists in the area. Loved the experience but would book a quieter area nearby next time
- Kath (10/5): Lovely hotel perfect area for visiting interesting places - Lovely room comfy bed
Breakfast fabulous, staff very friendly & helpful
Will be back
- Kornélia Wéber (10/5): Still dreaming about this place - The Slaughters is a perfect location to explore the charming villages of the Cotswolds without the crowds.
The service at the Inn was impeccable, the staff took such good care of us. Amazing breakfast as well!
We had a huge comfy bed with a spectacular bathroom. Two very small things to note when you are preparing for your stay here:
1. There was a bit of limited storage to unpack our bags in the rooms.
2. This is a beautiful and traditional building with all its quirks. Meaning that sound from the hallway, stairs, kitchen etc. travels very easily so people walking or talking outside your room might sound even louder in the room itself. It was not a problem for us but if it's important for you, make sure you get a room at the end of the hallways.
- Simon (10/5): Great holiday in a great location I would definitely recommend this hotel - Beautiful setting with a hotel that is run well. Breakfast was amazing we also had a lovely evening meal in the restaurant. The bar is really nice and we would have had a meal in the bar but it was the same menu as the main restaurant. We decided as we were going to the restaurant the next day we didn’t want the same food two nights in a row so went to a pub in Bourton on the water.
- Graham (9/5): Would definitely stay there again - Room was comfortable, with everything you needed for your stay, nice food friendly staff always willing to help. Thou the breakfast offered a good choice of breakfast it was lacking cereals or something light for thous who don't want a heavy breakfast.
- Louise (8/5): Location location location - Location is beautiful Some parts are a bit tired
- David (10/5): -
- Frank (9/5): Great location, lovely hotel with great service very comfortable - Great service, very friendly staff.
- Pattanawan Jacelyn (8/5): - Breakfast! The unlimited choices.p Didn't realise it was all stairs, so moving our bags was a challenge.
- Julian (8/5): Excellent location, nice facilities, would stay again. - Very welcoming on arrival, staff always friendly and helpful. Good breakfast options, nice selection of local beers to enjoy on the patio. Well maintained building and grounds.
- Simone (10/5): - Loved the bath and the products. Bed was super comfortable and room lovely and cozy. Wasn’t overly impressed with the restaurant. While dinner was good, i felt it was a bit on the pricey side for the quality and presentation of the meal.
- Mandy (10/5): -
- Joe (10/5): -
- Seungmjn (10/5): -
- Irene (8/5): -
- William (6/5): -
- Anthony (9/5): Lovely - Great location. Especially for the hawkstone brewery (10 mins walk away).
Nice food in the restaurant and lovely breakfast.
Nice grounds and gardens.
Big room and very clean. Not much at all. A bit noisy from the people above us.
- John (9/5): A beautiful hotel in a beautiful location - Our room was lovely, comfortable and clean. The view from our room was outstanding. The bar and lounge area were great and the breakfast was wonderful. The hotel has a large car park in its delightful grounds. There was very little to dislike. Our one slight concern was the limited nature of the dinner menu - great when all the items were available, not so good when an item was missing. We dined twice - had what we wanted one evening (steak, lovely), but had to compromise the second as the pan seared cod wasn’t available.
- Charles (9/5): Very enjoyable - Room was big and comfortable. Breakfast excellent. Staff very friendly but busy! All good
- Ali (10/5): -
- IAN (8/5): -
- Chelsea (10/5): Amazing staycation getaway! - Lovely room, very spacious, tidy and clean. Perfect for a couple staying for a short weekend getaway. Breakfast was delicious, a great selection of hot food. Friendly and professional staff, with easy check-in and check-out.
- Barton (10/5): An overall amazing short stay in your lovely picturesque hotel, all the staff where so kind. - Great choice at breakfast and a wonderful and friendly service, excellent food. My wife and l can't find fault with our stay with you.
- Kerry (9/5): -
- Emma (8/5): Lovely stay - Beautiful surroundings Nothing
- Mark (8/5): -
- Ray (6/5): -
- Martin (9/5): Great stay and will visit again - Great location, room was excellent and the food delicious. Staff friendly and helpful Breakfast service was a little overwhelmed probably due to number of guests. Had to wait a considerable time for food and drinks. However the standard was excellent when it came
- Ruth (10/5): -
- Catherine (9/5): Lovely place… but not enough parking - The area was lovely and the venue too and the staff were great The parking is a nightmare! …. Such a shame suggest bigger carpark as no priority for Hotel guests, unlikely to return for that reason
- celiamO3046UE (10/5): We had an amazing stay and will definitely return. An eye for detail throughout with a resolute hospitality. It’s a must - Beautiful throughout. Luxurious stay. Nothing was too much trouble. A must.
- Kevin (8/5): relaxing, plenty of walking facilities. If you want access to conveniences this is not for you - staff work hard to deliver, breakfast was good quality, flavoursome and hot ! view from room could have been nicer considering it was not standard room choice
- Cevik (9/5): I would definitely go here again and recommend it to anyone. Well worth the money. - The inn was clean and very beautiful. The garden is well kept. The pub is very nice and cozy. The room was super spacious and comfortable. The staff is very friendly, they really take care of the guests with sincerity The dining room can be nicer. the lighting at night can be more ambient. Food was not great, can be improved.
More complimentary toiletteries in the room.
- Mary (9/5): Lovely 3 night stay at the Slaughters Inn, would definitely go again. - Location was stunning. Lovely walks in the surrounding area. Cottage was lovely, comfortable and clean. Very dog friendly for our little fella. Breakfast was very good. Coffee was great. Staff friendly and helpful. You have to have patience... we went on the hottest few days in March and the area is a tourist venue... and the slaughters is the only place for refreshments in the village.nothing wrong with that but they really could have done with more staff... only 2 in the bar !!! Dinner menu not large , food was good but felt overpriced.
- Brown (8/5): -
- Duncan (9/5): Pleasant stay - Position, lovely hotel pleasant helpful staff Nothing
- Jillian (8/5): Perfect Cotswold base - Great location and base for our cotswold trip. Rooms were lovely and clean. Fabulous breakfast and very friendly staff Evening meal was just ok. We had no hot water one evening which was disappointing but not the end of the world.
- Craig (10/5): -
- squeakypoppet (8/5): Lovely country pub - Fantastic Ploughman’s platter! Gets busy but great after a long walk.
- lougrover (10/5): Little bit of luxury - Hotel is lovely, lots of low beams and creaky floors. We stayed one night and were upgraded to an incredible room with a clawfoot rolltop bath. Only slight thing was the en-suite was a bit tired and cramped.
Sofas to enjoy drinks by log fires. Breakfast was excellent, especially the pineapple and coconut overnight oats. Beautiful setting especially if weather is warmer the garden is gorgeous
- JOHN (10/5): -
- Caron (10/5): -
- newbold (1/5): Would advice anyone to stay away - Nothing!!!! Toilet area 1.5m x1.5m, had to complain at 1130pm of room above noise, ran out of fillet steak at dinner Totally over priced At £340 per night
- Patricia (9/5): - Position of hotel beautiful surroundings very comfortable accommodation friendly helpful staff.superb breakfast dinners a little disappointing. Nothing I didn't like
- Lewis (9/5): Wonderful. - Everything. Obviously it’s an old building but the only issue even though it’s minor is that the floor boards would creak and wake us up whenever someone came upstairs to our floor.
- sean (10/5): -
- Seaside19738159853 (10/5): Perfect place for a family celebration - We have just spent a really wonderful weekend here celebrating our Dad's 80th birthday. The hotel was perfect. We were a group of 15, ranging in ages from 10 to 80, and had a selection of room types, including family suites, superior rooms and a deluxe. Each room was spacious, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The location was lovely and the walk along the little river to Burton-on-the-water was ideal. Every member of staff we met, from reception, to the bar, to the resturant, was friendly and extremely helpful. We had dinner in the resturant and the food was absolutely delicious with something for everyone! Breakfast the next morning was equally good with a huge selection to choose from.
Special mention must go to Jess who helped arrange the booking and was beyond helpful in the run-up to the weekend and Tom who looked after us brilliantly at dinner, keeping our glasses full and the smiles on our faces.
We have all said we would love to come back here and would not hesitate to recommend the hotel - thank you for making a family celebration so special.
- RaGa5756 (6/5): Beautiful surrounding inn could do better - Lovely surrounding the room in a cottage was great. The pub part had little atmosphere for an old pub yes the fires were there but set-up was more for food. Staff were great but very slow in bar drinks are expensive Resturant is very pleasant as regards the food for the price very poor wouldn't eat there again. But we enjoyed our time in Burton
- Andrew (8/5): - Food was excellent for breakfast and dinner. Staff were all very nice and helpful. The bed was super comfy. One of the pillows was heavily stained which must have been obvious to housekeeping. Also, the room was very cold and we had to use the additional electric heater to take the edge off the temperature.
- Barry (8/5): Beautiful and relaxing place - It was exactly the time away we needed, relaxed an incredible location, beautiful grounds. The staff were friendly and polite. The room was luxurious, clean, and quite quiet on an evening. We chose to eat at the restaurant, I found the food chose offered limited.
- Richard (10/5): -
- simon (9/5): -
- Anna (9/5): -
- Sophie (3/5): Won’t go back or recommend - The location is nice The property felt old, the stairs / corridors all really dirty, didn’t look like had been cleaned in a long time. Bathroom was mouldy, bed really uncomfy
- Adriana (10/5): Delightful stay in a beautiful English village - Beautiful location. Stunning.
Faultless in every way.
Dog friendly Absolutely nothing!
- colleen (8/5): A beautiful little b & b - fab for dogs, the guy who served us all our meals was so welcoming. - Absolutely beautiful surroundings, big rooms, tea and coffee provided, made the dogs feel very welcome. Breakfast the best we have had in a long time, locally sourced. Evening meals just as good, never waited long - nothing was too much trouble for the staff in the bar. The room was a bit dark and dated - no usb sockets
