• Nick (6/5): - Great hotel, and great surroundings. That said, service can be much improved. 1) Wifi in the room didn’t work and staff didn’t know how to fix it. They had to wait for their manager who would only be there the next day. 2) we had dinner in the restaurant and don’t think I’ve ever had a slower service… For example, took them 40mins to bring out the bread. For a 3 course meal, we were at the table for 3h.. Some people just left because they didn’t want to wait anymore. We complained and they waived the service charge. They need to look at their staffing levels/training.
• Tessa (8/5): - This was expensive for what it was, even for a castle stay. The room was nice, but not outstanding for the price. The staff were friendly, the bed was comfy, the grounds were cute. For what you pay, would be nice to receive complimentary drink of arrival or something. Don't do dinner here, so completely over priced (yes, I know you are paying more for a castle, but even then - we spent about $500AUD on a OK dinner, it was crazy!)
• stephanie (8/5): - We enjoyed the castle experience, but our room was by the front desk/lobby and we heard everything that was going on there until late and early in the morning. I paid additional for an extra bed which came as a cot, small, thin mattress, uncomfortable! The food however was the highlight of our stay, do stay for tea time and dinner it’s well worth it!
• Gayle (10/5): - Great stay! Was upgraded to nicer room on arrival. Comfy beds, lux bathroom, tea/coffee and fresh baked cookies - heaven! Walked to Amberley Black Horse pub for drinks & snacks (and board games) then back to hotel for their 5 course tasting menu - most enjoyable!

• David (10/5): - We stayed for one night in a standard room, which was very comfortable and spacious, with a view of the extensive grounds. The buildings and gardens are beautiful and the staff friendly and attentive. Our room was below a family room which unfortunately for us was occupied by children who jumped around and slammed doors until gone 1am, and I’m assuming it was the children! Not the hotel’s fault of course but noteworthy. Breakfast was good, served at the table. There were two waiters - a highly experienced man, who was excellent, and another one who was either very inexperienced or having a bad day. Coffee was brought full of grounds and had to be sent back, and my partner’s cooked breakfast was plonked on the table before she’d finished eating some porridge. Not the service I’d expected. Despite our experiences, I would still recommend Amberley Castle as a great place to stay as it oozes charm - and you’re unlikely to have kids bouncing around in the room above you, or meet that particular waiter.

The grounds are maintained beautifully, our room was gorgeous, comfortable and well appointed. The staff could not be more professional, thoughtful and helpful. We had a lovely dinner and delicious breakfast in the castle’s hall. This stay has been on my bucket list for many years and Amberley castle fulfilled it perfectly!

• Jennifer (8/5): - A delightful castle. Easy parking. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was very clean, with a huge bed and lots of toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities. Unfortunately my stay was spoilt by the fact that I had a ground floor room and could hear the person ( probably a man) thumping around in the room above me. It went on both evenings and I even knew what time the person got out of bed in the morning and started thumping around before going to breakfast.

Easy walk to nearby small village with a high end provisions store and a restaurant the Black Horse. If not driving good access to taxi services and limited uber.

Bathroom facilities are modern. Rooms are well appointed. Its not cheap, but if you can afford it would recommend as a special occasion.
• Cathy (10/5): Beautiful Castle - Staying overnight at a castle has been on my bucket list for quite some time. My Amberley Castle stay did not disappoint. The accommodations were a perfect blend of 21st century comforts and a centuries-old castle. My son and I stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed our beautiful rooms and breathtaking grounds, along with impeccable service and delicious food. Every request to the staff was fulfilled cheerfully and efficiently.

• Peter (10/5): Lovely two night stay in Amberley - Two night stay, dined at a local pub in Amberley the first night and at the Hotel the second night. The service and food in the restaurant at breakfast and at dinner was excellent. The hotel staff I spoke to on the phone before arrival and all the staff came in contact with while there were polite, friendly and helpful. The room was kept clean and tidy with tea and coffee replenished each day for duration of stay.Option of free daily newspaper explained at check in.

They came out to greet us and take our luggage in Direct explaining about the castle and showing us where the lounges were and breakfast room. Staff couldn’t do enough we like fresh milk they said they would bring it up for us Breakfast was amazing the chef was very good enjoyed sitting in the lounge in the evening, having drinks and a snack one comment. Shame you didn’t do burger and chips for a snack meal in the evening

If it had been less expensive it would have been fine, but they've clearly opted to go for the money no object customer, and for that they should do better. Our room was dark with almost no windows and poor lighting. The walk in shower looked great, but was in practice disapointing, and the room (again for the money) was in poor repair.

• Linda (10/5): Beautiful hotel in immaculate setting - The Amberley Castle hotel is beautiful. The village is picture perfect and the location excellent for exploring. I have marked as excellent which in most ways it is. The room was beautiful. However maintenance of the room could be improved. One blind was faulty and needed a repair. The shower head needed fixing as dripped rather than sprayed and the shower glass moved so the floor got very wet when having a shower. Small things that did not spoil our stay but surprising nonetheless. Would however highly recommend.

• Margaret (10/5): FABULOUS!!! - Took my husband to celebrate our anniversary. It was a surprise and he had no idea where we were going. He was completely blown away as we pulled into the driveway and approached the portcullis. WOW! is about all he could manage to say. Everything about this hotel is just fabulous. Staff are lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. Our gatehouse suite was incredible, the gardens are stunning and breakfast was delicious. We didn’t want to leave. Thoroughly recommend this hotel if you are looking for somewhere really special and truly memorable.
• John (10/5): Picturesque Stay - Coming from the US, Napa has always been a bit of a getaway for me. So when I had the chance to take a weekend away from Central London and find some tranquility, Amberley Castle was the instant cure. What a gorgeous location. The castle was a sight to behold and the staff, the breakfast, dinner, you name it, it was absolutely sublime. The weather was not the best this particular weekend, but it didn't matter as the room was so nice and just the peace and quiet away from the city was really what was needed. What a treat for those that can book a room at Amberley Castle. Absolutely loved it here.

• Verified traveler (8/5): A Little Disappointing - A beautiful hotel and great staff for whom nothing was too much trouble, but ultimately disappointing. Although there was an extra electric radiator and an open gas fire in the room in addition to the central heating, the temperature never rose above 19ºC, regardless of the thermostat setting. The bathroom was even colder and the hot water temperature and pressure made bathing impossible and showering Dinner in the restaurant was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, but it was more style than substance – perfect for a special occasion but not, in my opinion, for every night dining. My final gripe is with the 18 hole putting course. It has been sadly neglected and, when we visited, it was infested with weeds and unplayable. In my view, this is a very nice hotel, with excellent staff, but with faults which should be addressed if it is to justify the ‘luxury’ description and prices.

Our daughters room was not available until 5pm ( not 3 as advertised) which was probably due to extra Covid cleaning . It would be helpful to know this in advance to save time wasting . All the staff were lovely and extremely helpful.

The only slight disappointment was the menu was the same choice over two nights I’d three choices for starter main and dessert. My mum eat the same choice on consecutive nights. Apart from that we had a very pleasant stay and would return again.

• Ellalyn (8/5): - The setting is amazing and, given the current Covid-19 pandemic the hotel was very clean and well-organised. The staff on the first day of the stay were really highly efficient and very welcoming. Unfortunately on the second day different staff were far less helpful and we did not receive items that were requested e.g. missing shower gel, courtesy newspaper and fresh milk for tea in the morning as the hotel does not provide the usual sachets so you have to ask for milk for the rooms which did not materialise. Breakfast was not such a good experience on the the second day with staff obviously struggling leaving us with nearly an hours wait for the main part of the breakfast - hence the lower rating. Overall though we had a very happy and relaxing time in lovely surroundings.

Sadly the weather precluded looking around the grounds which I understand are lovely. Dinner menu quite short but was able to find 3 courses without much difficulty and the cooking was excellent - a very satisfying dinner. Wine list has bottles for all depths of pocket.

The only tiny minus and it is not a problem at all, it was just the expectation of having a bath as described but it turned out that now the room had only a shower. • Verified traveler (10/5): Post Christmas Treat - This is our second time staying at Amberley Castle where we got married twenty years ago. It is always lovely to come back and visit and even better when we stay in the hotel. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly and personable lady who showed us to our room. The rooms are very cosy with beds so comfortable it is a rench to get out of them! We were very kindly upgraded this visit and while the room was beautiful we did miss having a bathtub in the bathroom. The breakfast service is very slow - maybe taking a booking time or order from the guests the day before could speed up the process. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back next month.

However, bedroom was warm and it is a very nice place. You really do feel like you are staying in a castle.
• Teresa (10/5): One night stay - We stayed one night only, everything was lovely, the staff at reception were very friendly, the room was very comfortable, the hotel was dressed for Xmas which added to the charm even more. It is situated in a beautiful village with thatched cottages and lovely views to the South Downs. Although we did not have dinner in the hotel as we were meeting friends, breakfast was very good.It was an experience not to be missed, would like to have stayed longer.

There was a large mistake on my bill of about £180 extra which was deducted after I pointed it out but even then the receptionist could not get your printer to work!!
• Brent (10/5): Cozy Castle and Delicious Food - Such a fun experience staying in a castle. The welcome was warm and friendly. We had the Rye Room and it was the perfect size for two of us. Very cozy and comfortable. Such a unique room up at the top floor with the wooden beams showing. The afternoon tea and 8 course tasting dinner menu was incredible. Highly recommend.
• Verified traveler (4/5): - Bad reception on arriving at the property. The sign leading to reception was not very clear at night and it took us a while to find it. On arriving at the door, we knock and shouted and called but the reception lady is busy with the phone and never tried to open door for us. Eventually someone from the kitchen heard it and opened the door for us. On entering the reception, the reception lady picked up another call and never gave us any attention. Is it more important to pick up the call again and again without greeting the guests in front of you? Eventually when the lady was done with the call, the response was even more strange. Would expect a hi and sorry to keep u waiting. Instead, she behaves like why are we here and asked in very cold tone of whether we want to check in or. No smile no hi. During dinner waiter said he would tell the manager on duty but the manager never came to say anything. This is just the way this hotel is treating its guests. The hotel room is fine typical castle style. We are a bit unlucky as there is a big fly in the toilet. Also the tap has no hot water. But we don’t bother to report any more given the bad experiences so far. My advice to anyone who wants to stay in the castle is to go to midland. Far better experience than here. Probably the coldest receptions have experienced anywhere in the world so far. Last thing is on food. We ordered tasting menu and it is so so. Good service just the food is not high standard.

• Verified traveler (10/5): - The most incredible hotel we have ever stayed in. The breakfast was amazing in the morning - I had a full English breakfast, with grapefruit juice and a latte and my partner had eggs benedict with orange juice and English breakfast tea. We had a walk round the grounds and there is a sweet tea shop near by where we had scones and tea. The only con i would say is there nothing to do in Amberley. However, i would recommend driving to Arundel which is only 10 minutes away from Amberley Casltle.

• Verified traveler (4/5): Decent stay, but missing items - The hotel went into our bags and took out medicinal marijuana for my friend’s epilepsy. The hotel also took into coatcheck and didn’t return an extremely expensive custom dunhill jacket... we even arranged for a taxi to return the items, and they never put in the jacket.
