• Froehlich (10/5): A very unique place to visit and stay. - The only negative is this is a walled City. You have to walk from the Transportation problem point to the hotel or arrange for a hotel to pick you up at the transportation point. I'm answering the survey

We received a welcome ginja drink . They had treats in the room . Beautiful view from the balcony . Dinner and breakfast was to die for . My favourite was the royal cake . Staying inside the walls was wonderful, you can enjoy the small town before and after the crowds arrive and dinner in the dining room of a castle was a great experience. Breakfast was great and the staff very attentive. The standard room inside the castle is very small and uncomfortable. We were upgraded to a suite in the adjacent building which was very comfortable but full of bugs!!!

A sala de chá convida a uma parada para apreciar o momento. O restaurante é incrível, vale muito jantar lá numa noite. A acessibilidade não é o forte. Para mim não incomodou em nada, mas se você tem dificuldade de mobilidade ou bagagem muito pesada pode ser difícil.

• Dusko (4/5): Excellent location, but the comfort of the room fell well short of expectations - The location was the highlight of the stay — convenient, well situated, and ideal for visiting the city. We were also impressed by the gentleman who assisted with our luggage to and from the car. He was professional, cheerful, entertaining, and easy-going, and his warmth stood out as a particularly memorable part of the stay. The biggest disappointment was the comfort of the beds. The mattresses were extremely soft and felt cheap, making it difficult to sleep and leaving me with backache the next morning. My friend, who was in a different room, had the same experience, which suggests this is a broader issue rather than a one-off problem. In addition, the room lacked even a basic desk for using a laptop, although there appeared to be ample space for one.

Para chegar no restaurante onde é servido o café da manhã, precisávamos subir muito! Todo o espaço até lá, e a céu aberto, impraticável com chuva. O quarto que minhas filhas ficaram era muuuito pequeno! Nem a mala delas coube ali. Precisei colocar no nosso quarto.

• Richard (7/5): An impressive place to stay if you are happy being in an old castle - The setting of the hotel in the old castle, at the top of a fantastic old town, is hard to beat. The room had good facilities. The breakfast room had great views over the surrounding countryside. We had paid for a superior room and, while it had all you needed, it was windowless. I suppose this is to be expected in the base of a castle tower, but a little claustrophobic.

• emma (8/5): Authentic castle stay in Óbidos - This is as authentic a castle stay as it gets! The hotel is set within the castle walls and the special suite is literally in the stone tower. The property is filled with antiques and armor. There’s a four post canopy bed, a beautiful old desk. The breakfast was wonderful with great variety and local dishes. The staff were very friendly and kind especially the guys who do the transport and escorting to the room. So sweet. The suite is exactly as pictured with tiny tower windows, which is a minor issue only if claustrophobic and the narrow stairs upstairs to the bed are almost as steep as a ladder. Fun but just be ready for it. Cool experience and very unique!

Arriving as the day-trippers drifted away, the village grew quiet and the castle felt wonderfully our own. From the warm welcome of ginjinha served in chocolate cups to candlelit dinner within ancient stone walls, every moment felt steeped in history. Our room overlooked Óbidos’ red rooftops, and walking the ramparts at dusk as the lights flickered on was unforgettable. The night was perfectly still, and morning bells and mist over the countryside completed the experience. This wasn’t just a hotel stay — it felt like living inside history.

• Dor (9/5): Special and unusual accommodation - How many times have you slept in an ancient castle? Special and unusual accommodation in a castle. A real experience. The room was very spacious. In terms of accessibility - there is no entrance with vehicles to the village, but there is a hotel service that comes to pick you up with a tuktuk. Getting to the room and also to the dining room requires climbing stairs. It is recommended to get there with a small bag for the duration of your stay. In the room itself, access to the bathroom requires going down several stairs. A varied breakfast with a beautiful view. For those staying there, there is the option of climbing the wall for a lookout in the tower area - don't miss it. There is a slight smell of mold, but this is in keeping with the character of the place.

• Michael (10/5): You get to stay in a castle! - A room under the dining room had footsteps with post dinner clean up, but we were moved upon request to a room without that issue. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We got to stay in a castle! Walking the walls, the view, the location…incredible! Breakfast was included and fantastic! The delay getting to and from the room with bags. You park outside the walls of the city. The hotel provides a golf cart that seats 3 people and holds a couple of large bags. There can be a 30+ minute wait once you arrive and are ready to depart. You won’t be able to cover the distance on your own with anything more than a backpack.

The afternoon tea and cookies were an additional surprise and thoroughly enjoyable. We enjoyed all that the hotel had to offer.

• Laura (8/5): I would stay here again. - It was fun staying at the castle. Our room was small but cozy. They had cookies and water available in a sitting area which was nice. Dinner was really good. Breakfast was good also. A shout out to the server with breakfast. He opened the dining room a little early for us since we had to go earlier than they open. TV had English speaking channels. We had to leave early and the reception lady was nice enough to give us a ride down to the parking lot. We appreciated that. A long walk up to the castle with luggage. They did send an email saying they had s shuttle but I got it too late and we were exhausted when we got there. Nice staff though explained it to me. You had to make reservation for dinner, couldn't just go when you wanted to. That made our dinner late for us, too late.

Que seria sair da recepção para o quarto num dia de chuva subindo dezenas de escadas em pedra e piso compreensivelmente irregular?

• André Alexandre Rocha (3/5): Staff was great but the room was not good at all. - The staff was friendly and the location was spectacular. The room was not cleaned properly, there was humidity on the ceiling, and the spring bed was worn out, very hard to have a good night sleep.

• Colin (9/5): Excellent - Fabulous location within the amazing castle walls. The walk up to the restaurant and views from the citadel were stunning.
• Mark (9/5): Excellent would definitely stay again - Staff was great, very helpful from check in to check out. The castle was very unique, breakfast was fantastic While I expect small rooms in Europe having to turn sideways just to get into the bathroom was a bit much.

• JillW994 (4/5): An inaccessible uncomfortable disappointment - I booked our stay at the castle hoping for a fun, romantic and unique night. Needless to say it was an epic failure. The room was dark and dingy, the bed was like sleeping on a rock and the service/amenities were substandard. We even dined in their restaurant which was average at best and overpriced.
• Lisa in Cali (10/5): Lovely Obidos Castle - Such a fun place to stay. Once in a lifetime experience. Staff are lovely, good food, amazing atmosphere. We ate dinner in the castle and that was a great experience as well. Such nice waters. We stayed in the tower room, so cool! Just like all of Europe, bed was hard. Would still recommend and would stay again.

• Franka (7/5): Preis-Leistungsverhältnis nicht angemessen. - Die Lage auf der Burg ist toll. Das Frühstück bietet eine gute Auswahl mit schöner Aussicht. Das Familienzimmer war sehr klein. Das Kind hat als vollwertiger Zahler ein Klappbett bekommen. Im Zimmer roch es muffig und feucht. Die Dusche wurde schon lange nicht mehr gründlich gereinigt.
