Raymond (10/5): - This is a nice place close to Monteverde. We stayed one night before our hike in the cloud forest. Love the location, the service, and the cleanest of the hotel. The street in from is full of potholes, just like the roads leading to here. Not the hotel's fault, but a fact which I did enjoy that much in general when traveling through northern part of Costa Rica.
Marc (10/5): A good option for families - The staff were very helpful, and the room was quiet despite being on the ground floor and near a common area. We would stay here again if we go back to Monteverde. (Wife and son are already asking when we can go back to Costa Rica!)
anup (10/5): Great place to stay for a family - The best part of the stay were the folks at front desk, who were the most helpful bunch I have ever encountered. Shout out to Zuleka. The room was very well maintained and had a cabin line feel.

Also, the staff was incredibly helpful both before and during our visit, they helped to arrange transportation whenever we needed it, especially to get to our next destination I would recommend a balcony room for the great views of the area.

Q3192JUlisan (10/5): Large, comfortable room in good location. - This is a great location with shops and restaurants a quick 3 block walk down the hill (that means it’s uphill on the way back which was a little rough). The room was really big and comfortable and had a shared living room and kitchen downstairs. There was even a shared balcony where I sat all morning watching the butterflies go by. The included breakfast was really good with several choices and a great way to start the day.
Lisa (10/5): Cute and comfy - The bed was super comfy and the AC worked well. We had a large room with a shared balcony. The location is close to town with shops and restaurants, but it’s uphill from town, so the return walk got old pretty quickly.

Lo cual si desean un hotel de descanso este hotel no sería una opción. Ese fue el único punto negativo durante nuestra estadía. Lo cual es un factor fuera de control de este alojamiento. Las habitaciones son muy confortables con baños amplios y limpios. El desayuno incluido es delicioso y variado.
Heather (6/5): - Price was good and breakfast was great. Nice view from the second-floor room. Had to keep windows open to cool the room and that brought bugs in at night. Also meant that you could hear people in nearby rooms. Wifi signal was too weak to reach our room.

Close to the cloud forest and a Sloth sanctuary. Tip, park at the parking lot that says Offical Parking & take the shuttle, there is really no parking at the park entrance.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful. They have an organized schedule to all the acitvities around and multiple times for shuttles to different activities.

Helen (10/5): - The staff were extremely friendly and helpful with arranging tours and making reservations for us. The location is within walking distance to the main commercial area and not far from both the Santa Elena and Monteverde Reserves. Had a great couple of nights here.
Jonathan (10/5): This would be my first choice. - This was my second stay in Santa Elena. I chose this hotel due to its location (off the main street), and I was pleasantly surprised. I was looking for quiet, and Mar Inn allowed me to rest after hiking in the jungle. The included breakfast was substantial, and the service excellent. There is a coffee and spirits bar on-site. The host was very helpful, and one minor issue with our refrigerator was promptly remedied.

Pamela (8/5): - The beds are very cozy and comfortable with nice blankets. The shower is a nice rainfall shower with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. But, the water was not very hot. It is located in a great area 5 minutes walk from downtown. The parking lot is pretty small. Breakfast is 6:30-8:30am made to order. The pancakes are fluffy and they have tea/milk/coffee.

However, our room was on the first floor. We kept hearing the foot steps of the people staying in the floor above. We woke up multiple times during the night and early in the morning because of that.

Breakfast comes included and was adequate and good. Ate dinner one night , food was reasonably priced, and tasty. Room had nice view, bed was comfortable , had a fridge. Basic amenities, nothing fancy. No Fan or AC, did not need them, but just to note.

MN2300 (8/5): Good location for exploring the region - We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The room was spacious and clean and the staff very friendly. There are some balconies and a garden area, and this is for common use but not all quests seemed to be aware of this and some took quite ownership. So, the hotel could probably stress this a bit more. But we did manage to enjoy the balcony which was close to our room. The hotel is located up a steep hill from the city center and this was probably the only downside to the hotel. The city has several cafes, restaurants, and supermarkets. The breakfast is table service with several different options. When the hotel is full and there is a group, you are kind of the second priority when you are not part of the group. But we did manage to make it work and did get breakfast.

W5324HAterryc (4/5): Mixed review - Hotel room was really close to a busy road and was incredibly noisy. Doors and windows weren't sealed, gaps beneath to let noise and dust through. No hot water. Went to a terrific coffee tour, enjoyed the small orchid garden and orchid cafe. Wasted money on a night walk. Unique town for shopping for souvenirs. Very windy out of way location. Steep hill and limited sidewalks. We travelled using a car service and would skip this town unless in a private car and able to stay in more remote hotel.
162kevina (10/5): Perfect one night stay. - We had a lovely one night stay. Perfect jumping off point for adventures in monteverde. Very fairly priced. Note that our room didn’t have AC but since the elevation is so high, our room cooled down nicely. Breakfast was good. Would recommend hiking the cloud forest and doing the Tigre Waterfall adventure.

Sadly let down by lady receptionist and rules for breakfast of those not in a group - We were in room 3 which is in a quiet part of the hotel and has it's own little garden. There is a double bed and single bed and fridge and safe. The rooms and hotel are cleaned to a high standard. They have a bar which has lovely views. The town is 5 mins walk down a hill which has lots of shops and restaurants The thing that let this place down was the lady receptionist. Breakfast starts at 6.30 am and we asked to eat then the following day as we were being collected at 7.50am for a tour. We were told they had a tour group who took priority and we could not have any breakfast, we offered to decide night before our option or could they do a breakfast box but again we were told no we would have to go without. We asked for a refund for breakfast and were told no .We argued and she eventually called the manager who agreed we could have breakfast. The next two days she said we could not book until the tour group decided they wanted breakfast and we could then book 30 mins before or 30 mins after again regardless of when we needed to be up for tours. We saw the happen to all guests who were not part of a group.
floortjes2023 (10/5): Amazing service and work from the hotel - The hotel was clean, looked nice and was really close to the center. The people at the servicedesk help you book activities, and think alomg with you whilst doing this. They also delivered absolutely amazing work when we had an incident near to the hotel, and needed an ambulance. They did everything they could to help and did amazing. I really recommend coming here.
Peter (8/5): Reasonably good hotel - Our three night stay was generally good. It’s within walking distance to the town center, but remains mostly quiet. Staff was nice enough and provided assistance when asked. Breakfast was adequate but nothing memorable. The room was clean but definitely kind of dated and lacked amenities like a refrigerator or microwave. I can’t complain much although, like most things in Santa Elena, I think it’s overpriced for what you get.

All rooms appear different. I didn’t have any hanging area or drawers. Some friends had this which would have been nice. Staff helpful, large shower area

The bar at the property was great and the bar man was great, friendly and made some really nice cocktails, he was the best part of the hotel. Breakfast was okay but good considering the hotel price. One issue I did have is I booked a tour and when I showed up for the tour, they had already sent the tour guy away as they thought I had cancelled. Since it was my last night, i had no opportunity to do this tour again.

TheBosco (10/5): The best of the best in Santa Elena - The Mar Inn balances comfort, calm, peace, and low environmental impact in a beautiful package. Staying here (as I am with my wife as we recuperate from strep throat) is the single most grounding experience we've had in our 3 weeks visiting Costa Rica. The staff we've interacted with seem to be fiercely devoted to caring for the Monteverde Cloud Forest and their guests, in that order as it should be. They are welcoming and patient. They each have a different perspective, and are happy to share their own experiences in this special and critical piece of our world. The rooms are elegant, wrapping you in a luscious space to restore tranquility. The amenities are well thought-out and suited to provide you the best base from which to explore the cloud forest. The lobby in the lower building is fitted out with soft leather sofas, well-thumbed reading material, and (sometimes, if you're extraordinarily lucky) your gracious hosts, Paco and Figo. Breakfast is a choice of simple fare, well prepared; eggs as you like them, rice and beans perfectly fluffed, sweet plantain delicately fried, pillowy pancakes. The coffee is hot and bold. The dining room is a beautiful mix of warm wood parquetry and large windows opening on the hills above Santa Elena.

Our rooms doesn’t had AC but it’s not needed also. Service and breakfast where good. Room in the 80s style. For the price they charged we’re totally satisfied .
ManonInCostaRica (8/5): Really nice place with awesome staff - The rooms are comfortable. Nothing fancy. Anthony the owner is really helpful when it comes to finding the best tours. The guy at the bar (I think his name was Alberto) is awesome. The place is convenient. Short little walk to town...although you DO have to go back up a little hill to get back. Amazing view.
Johanna (6/5): Good but not great - The hotel is centrally located in Monteverde, close to stores and restaurants, however, if your goal is to immerse yourself in nature this is not the place. Breakfast was great with very good options and in general very good service. Room was small and with tinny beds (we are 5’3” and had to split beds).
nolenurse13 (10/5): Would stay here again! - We stayed just a couple nights. It felt really homey and you can easily meet new people traveling too. The beds were comfortable and the room we stayed in was really clean. The breakfast was good for the price, not bad at all. I love how it’s a family owned business and Anthony, the owner, really cares about his customers. He helped us with making reservations. He was very personable and helpful. We also enjoyed the bar! It’s close to everything. I would definitely stay here again.
V2856YSmaryb (2/5): Very poor - This was definitely the worst hotel we visited in Costa Rica. The room was dark opening onto the car park, the plumbing wasn’t great, the staff were surly and the breakfast awful. Avoid if possible. Luckily we were out all day and found a nice restaurant in town. The countryside around is wonderful, which made it OK
Verified traveler (8/5): Clean and spacious but hilly. - The place was cute and the rooms were a good size. The area is hilly, and the hotel was very multi level, lots of stairs and inclines, with different buildings to go between. The included breakfast was ok, 4 options of eggs or pancakes or some combination. Areas of improvement: parking spots were few and they only provided a couple towels.

Sylte (10/5): - This room was exactly like the picture I saw when reserving the room. We had a great view of Monteverde. We were right in town very close to every thing, but it was so quiet in the room when we slept. Great breakfast. We were so happy!
birder50 (6/5): Not Awful... - This is a great place to stay if you're young or have a family with smaller kids or are a solo traveler ~ the location is really great to town and the breakfast that's included with the price makes it a good way to start the day. But...and I hate to say this since this is family run establishment and I know they clearly care about their property...the 'door' to the bathroom was literally located next to the head of one bed and it was a broken accordion thing that didn't close and literally swung open in the breeze if you tried to close it...giving those who were walking by a clear view into not only your room but you standing at the sink. The wood paneled walls give the rooms an overall dark feeling, despite the huge picture windows that let in so much lovely light. The light above one bed was not even there although the base of the lamp was still in the wall. The bathroom was very, very tired looking. No screens on any windows meant that we had flying bugs all night but that wasn't a problem for us, just pointing it out for others who may be bothered. The remote for the TV had been taken by some previous guest so that wasn't even an option for an after dinner thing to do. All that being said, it was a good deal for the price, and the staff went out of their way to be helpful.
davidmX7564YZ (2/5): Worst value in Costa Rica - Room was terrible. TV not functional. Windows and doors had huge gaps to allow whatever in. Breakfast included, but was awful. “Happy Hour” bar prices were ridiculously inflated, for example a 3oz glass of very cheap red wine was 2500 colones. Steep climb from centre of town. Avoid this place! I expect any the good reviews this place received are fakes.
955joanw (10/5): Great visit - 4 of us stayed for two nights at Mar Inn a few days ago....the hotel was very clean, service was excellent. Location to nearby restaurants was perfect and we even loved the steep hill on our return to the hotel at night. There is some street noise at night that you need to be aware of - we purchased use of the a/c so we could use the fan for white noise. The hotel recommended an amazing guide, Sam, who guided us through Curicancha Reserve - an amazing day with a man so passionate about birds and the ecosystem of the cloud forest -we learned so much.
Yi (10/5): - The Inn was in a good location in Monteverde and an easy walk to center of town with activities and resturants. The room was clean and breakfast was good.

Rick (6/5): - The property was nice and the two young guys running it were great. We had great difficulty checking out as the cc machines were not working. Took us a long time to set up PayPal accounts etc. Not to take away from anything. The rooms were very noisy not only hearing your neighbor but also out side noise. Showers were borderline cold. Just used hot water and still cool.

becky (6/5): Can’t sleep - It’s very primitive living condition, strong wind goes through the door and window making horrible noise, we are so scary and can’t sleep. They should seal the door firmly. Breakfast is ok and tasty.
