Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice but some issues - Very charming hotel in front of the bridge with pleasant staff but 2 issues during this stay. Firstly, we were not told before booking that building works were going on in the floor below. This disrupted our rest during the day after a 5 hour trip by road. Secondly, the towels are very old and have a mouldy odour.
- Yacine (10/5): - Hotel is very clean 👌 staff very available. It is close to everywhere and the Senegal river with a long cute bridge. I love ❤️ it and will stay again.
- Tracy (10/5): - This historic place had a beautiful courtyard and very comfortable rooms. Warning; no lift, so not appropriate for handicapped guests.
- esra (10/5): - Great place! Good service and a beatiful building. Highly recommended
- JACOBUS (4/5): - The hotel was overbooked and the way the manager handled their overbooking problem was a disaster & unbelievable!
We booked & paid 3 nights by VISA via Expedia a day before. When we arrived, the receptionist said she couldn’t find our booking from a pale of booking papers & the hotel was full. She called the manager.
During the phone call the manager told us we could only stay 1 night but had to check out the next day because it was full on the second night. The manager did not mention anything about refund for 2 nights/ solution/ apology. We were shocked. We said we could stay 1 night and look for another hotel the next day, but the hotel must refund 2 nights to us, as we had paid everything already.
After the manager arrived in the hotel, she said we had to contact Expedia for the 2 nights refund on our own without mentioning how or providing any proof so we could submit to Expedia. The manager even said it was OUR problem and Expedia was OUR agent. I was shocked by her reply and attitude. I said Expedia is the hotel’s business partner and the hotel must refund the cost of 2 nights on the spot!
In the end, she erased the reservation of another guest on a piece of big paper which carried all the room numbers & guest names, and then she wrote my name by pen next to a room number on that booking paper. She ‘solved’ the overbooking problem by sacrificing another guest, which surprised us.
Finally we checked in after struggling for more than 1-hour 15mins.
- Yasmin (10/5): Excellent comfortable and in a great location - This hotel is by far one of the most comfortable, clean and spacious hotels i have stayed in. Located in the heart of st louis island, the receptionist Aja was incredibly kind and frriendly, she helped me arrange transportation to my demdik back to dakar, thank you so much for an incredible stay. If you are visiting st louis i highly recommend this hotel

- Erica (8/5): - Fabulous location. Room AC was great. Best shower I’ve had at a hotel in Senegal. Bed and pillows were comfy. Room was clean and had all necessities. Bar staff could use more customer service training
- Sophie (2/5): - They had to change me rooms several times, #1, the electricity was not working, #2 was way too small (I had paid for an upgrade) and barely any water, #3 was decent, yet door was difficult to lock.
Even though the property is quaint, it's really run down, breakfast is bad (don't waste the 6000cfa for it). The worse part of it all is lack of security. I never felt safe. The night before i left, I noticed my car was damaged significantly, through no fault of the guard (per him). I have never had an accident nor has anyone hit me while here in Senegal, yet the guard insisted I was a liar and that nothing happened to my car and that I arrived with this (a lie of course, it was at the garage for routine maintenance 5 hours before I arrived). My car will take a lot of money to fix, but this hotel refused to do anything, instead, insisted I was a liar, I was yelled at and I was told I could afford it. This was the worse stay I ever had. Stay clear of this place!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Gut gelegenes Hotel mit historischer Bedeutung
- Lauren (8/5): Good hotel - This is a nice hotel and the best option if you want access to a pool in SL. The pool was closed when we were there…I would have stayed at Siki (where I have been many times in the past) if I had known. All of the staff were kind of lovely. The hotel is tired but has a fascinating history and a nice interior courtyard. The location is convenient but also a target for dudes trying to sell you stuff.
- CHEIKH (6/5): - Not a 4 star
- Koshy (8/5): - Pros: Great location. Theres parking right outside the hotel. Good staff. The common areas have a nice old world feel.
Cons: The rooms and bathrooms could do with some updating. Not sound-proofed, so will need earplugs.
- Sabryna (6/5): - .
- Hillary (6/5): - Hotel de la Poste is full of history and charm. The rooms, however, are not: they are simply old and tired. It was great to be right next to the historic Pont Federhbe, though this also means a lot of noise. It's a trade-off. Keep in mind that to access the (also very tired) pool, one has to walk down the street. The food and rooms at this hotel are highly overpriced for what is offered. On a positive note: the staff are very welcoming and friendly, and seem constantly to be cleaning!
- Michel (10/5): - Outstanding design and look. Quite romantic.
- louis-etienne (10/5): St-Exupéry at l’Hôtel de la poste - They gave us a regular room. Going down, we figured it out that Antoine de Dt-Exupéry was staying jete in the same riom. They changed our room and we slept twi night in this famous suite. MAGIC
- Michael (10/5): Perfect St Louis Hotel - Awesome hotel in the historic part of St Louis. It's conveniently located near the bridge and is walkable to the whole island. The decor is all from the days of the French West African mail routes and you can definitely feel the history. There's a good restaurant and bar plus a pool owned by the hotel situated across the street on a prominad overlooking the river. Highly recommend!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Terrible hotel, staff lied about why we couldn't have the room requested and confirmed, terrible hotel environment, with the constant, aggressive harassment by men right outside the hotel and in the restaurant. Parking was right in front, and people were sitting on and looking into my car windows. 'Security' and staff didn't care, especially about the constant, aggressive harassment- men demanding money for 'washing' my car or watching over it day after day, when I told them to stay away and stop messing with it. Ironic that my car was scratched after telling the guy to stop harassing me constantly. Super stressful stay and dangerous environment, ruined weekend.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Emplacement est ideal
- Craig (8/5): Hotel de la Poste charming and friendly - The Hotel de la Poste is a charming hotel famous as the hangout of the first transatlantic aviators of the 1930s. It is well located at the foot of historic Faidherbe Bridge in Saint-Louis of Senegal. The room was clean and comfortable, with A/C, but brong your own shampoo as they didn't provide any. We did not eat their breakfast. The restaurant was closed and they used a related one on the river across the street, where the locale (and the hotel's pool) was great but the service was disappointing. Saint Louis is charming with New Orleans style architecture though much of it is crumbling, and there are a number of good places to eat. Fresh fish thanks to the teeming fishing town just across from the isle, also worth visiting. There is an active nightlife, but shows start late.
- Djibril (10/5): - We love it
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel had a lot of character and was comfortable. We didn’t like the parking which was at the front on the street and you are bombarded by people wanting money or trying to sell things.
- LISE (2/5): not good. - Oldest hotel in town. Toilet seat was broken, they did tighten one screw, one missing. Very hard pillows. No water in the room no shampoo
Shower between toilet and sink
Floor all wet. Room noisy from street noice. Two flights of stairs. No elevator. Would not recommend. Bed comfortable.
- SJ (10/5): - The hotel is pure history... you get inside and you get overwhelmed. The atmosphere, the location, the beautiful trees inside the hotel, simply everthing will make you feel like back in old days... therefore, don't expect everything to be brand new. You pay for the atmosphere. Enjoy it!
- Alyssa (8/5): A bit dated, but very comfortable! - Rooms are old and a bit dated, but the courtyard is amazing. Great location and very quiet, and the staff is very nice. The hotel is a really neat historic place too!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pretty, good location - A pretty hotel in a very good location to explore the island part of Saint Louis. The hot water did not work in our room, but staff eventually moved us to a different room where the hot water worked. The bar is expensive and poorly stocked, so maybe take a walk to one of many other restaurants close by instead. The history of the hotel itself and the aeropostale pilots who give it its name are interesting.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely hotel with a strong French theme. Beautiful atrium inside the hotel with plants and trees. Very friendly staff.
We arrived early and were given the next available room. However, as this was facing the road (and quite noisy) we asked to move. The hotel staff quickly moved us to a very quiet and peaceful room with a great view of the river Senegal.
Good location directly in the centre of St Louis (please note there are poor children in the town).
- BERNARD (6/5): - Hotel qui aurait besoin d'une rénovation des chambres qui sont petite avec un lit de 140 , le restaurant est très bien au bord de l'eau ;
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ok hotel, a little outdated. - Hotel was nice, room had AC, nice bathroom, but overall hotel is outdated. Breakfast was somewhat expensive for the area. The area is not what it used to be either. Some people wait outside for you to come out and ask you to buy things. Walk too far and it's depressing with trash everywhere and the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Charmant - En vacances.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice old hotel with lots of character. Good location just off the Faidherbe Bridge. Lots of stairs to climb so beware. Not a 4 * hotel, should be 3*. Friendly reception and staff throughout.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Bra beliggenhet - Sentral beliggenhet i St. Louis.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quiet hotel with a beautiful courtyard. The swimming pool looked quite inviting but, as we had a full schedule of meetings, I was unable to try it out :-(. Hotel staff were very obliging and efficient.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Sleeping with history. - Great place to stay. Really cool photos and everything. Lots of history.
- charles (8/5): - i would recomment it to anybody. loved the historic atmosphere
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable colonial style - Good size room with comfortable bed and en suit bathroom. Nice bar. Courtyard was a nice idea but mostly smelled of the toilet next door. Enjoyed the access to the swimming pool around the corner.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel in downtown area. Very historical. - Great hotel! I appreciated it. Clean and charming.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hmmmm.... - The hotel has a great history but looks pretty tired and seemed quite empty when I was there - it's okay to stay there but overpriced given the tired facilities and small room. Worth a visit for a drink in the cafe/bar but no need to stay there.
- Lysa (6/5): Historic place - The hotel is beautiful and quaint. The rooms could do with a bit of an upgrade but for the cost per night, $71US, it was reasonable. The center courtyard is the best part of the hotel.
- Terrence (8/5): Very pleasant visit! - A short trip to visit Saint-Louis. Receptionist was welcoming. Lovely central courtyard with lots of plants and trees. Room small but comfortable with good A/C and reliable WiFi. Breakfast average. Location is very good. I requested to extend the visit by a day, but the hotel was full. The hotel manager called me at night to tell me she would do everything she could to give me a room if there was a cancellation, and she did!
- Shafiqa (2/5): Not worth it - Our stay basically lasted for 2 hours and we checked out into another hotel same rate bigger room clean and comfortable. The room which we booked had details such as room with double bed flat screen TV etc. Which was not the case. The room had a double bed plus an additional single bed. I would not recommend it at all. Plus when we said we were checking out they didn't seem to mind and didn't even bother asking us the reason. I guess they could not be bothered since the room was already paid for.
- l d (8/5): faded splendour. - a small escape form the hawkers that hang out around this part of town...its like stepping back into 1960. try to get a room on the back or side to avoid road noise. lovely courtyard and shaded front cafe. the hotel is well located just over the bridge.
- RDY (4/5): Location, location, location - of a cave room - Nice historic building, but buying a coffee in the cafe gets you this experience
Many things didn't work in the room. No view of anything out the window. Dark and un-improved in decades.
Asked to change rooms, but refused, even when hotel was empty.
Expected a nice stay, but could have paid half the amount for a better room in the city.
Unimpressed.
- Nina (6/5): Three days stay - Hotel with a history, nice surrounding and in heart of town. Not a very welcoming arrival. Had the feeling during my three days that I was disturbing the hotel staff by staying there. The restaurant staff on the other side was very nice and made me feel welcome.
