Guest Reviews
- Linus (10/5): Had an amazing stay at Uros Aruma Uro - We had an afternoon tour to visit the floating islands of Titicaca and without us requesting it, Juan appeared in his boat towards the end of the tour to take us to the hotel where the rest of his family greeted us. We were instantly charmed by the beautifully of the island, the rooms and accompanying deck where we spent most of the evening watching the sunset, stars and the glimmering lights of Puno.
The rooms are simple but equipped with all the necessities including usb charging proteas and a fully equipped bathroom. The room offered amazing views overlooking the floating islands, the lake itself and Puno in the distance.
After a good dinner we were given a heating bag containing hot water to help keep us warm under a plethora of blankets during the cold dry season night.
All in all exceeded all my expectations and an experience I will never forget.
- Jasper (10/5): - Very clean and cozy place. Juan and his family are very friendly and accommodating. A very nice place for us to wind down our Peru trip. Would recommend this place.
- Amanda (10/5): - If you want to experience the life of the Uros people, I highly recommend this stay. Juan and his family are hospitable, kind, and helpful.
The comfort of the beds with the alpaca blankets kept us warm throughout the night. The food and mate de coca was amazing for our bodies.
Juan was respectful and knowledgeable about all of our questions about the island and Puno Plaza.
Highly recommend.
- Dagmar (10/5): - What a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the night sky in a unique environment. Everyone is super friendly, including all the guests, family members, and animals. Our breakfast was excellent!
- Tania (10/5): - Wonderful place and people.
- Andre (8/5): Primitive but is what to beexpected - The comfort is minimal, clean and friendly.. This is not a olace to be expected to have Hilton comfort but GREAT
- kathleen (10/5): Unique experience! - amazing and unique experience. Don't miss this. A great family to stay with.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Unforgettable stay at Aruma Uro - Our stay for 2 nights at Aruma Uro was really comfortable and relaxing. Juan and his family have done a great job at creating an unforgettable experience for the tourist. He welcomes you with a bonfire in the late afternoon and the room was comfortable and clean. Highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great experience on Lake Titicaca - We spent a night on Aruma Uro, it was a great experience, I would recommend it to all travelers. The food cooked on the island was terrific.
The only negative thing is taking the Colectivo boat from Puno to the island, the boat captain will try to trick you into buying stuff from his island, will try to avoid taking you all the way to Aruma Uro, or will want you to pay extra for it. This is basically extortion, just resist it, at some point he will give in. This is unfortunate because it will turn people away from the island. I should file a complaint with the Peruvian tourist police..
- Florence (10/5): Great stay! - We enjoyed staying at the island a lot. Even tho it was pretty cold, there were very thick blankets and the owners were nice enough to provide us hot-water bags without us asking. We felt like they were trying their best to make us enjoy our stay.
However, it is quite a hassle to get to the island, which we ended up just booking their private pickup service which is $5(USD) per person per way. They waited for us at the bus station with a sign, our bus from Arequipa arrived 30 mins than usual and they were patient enough to wait for us without any complains. They even directed us to getting our bus tickets (which is in the same bus station) for the next day to La Paz.
Since we went to the island directly, we ended up buying the $10 USD dinner on the island. We only ordered two dinners for the four of us since we were not very hungry. Surprisingly, the food was very good, and they didn't judge us for ordering so little between the four of us.
The owners of the island were very friendly and you could really relax during your stay. I would recommend this "hotel" to any of my friends.
Bear in mind that there are no wifi and the washrooms are outside, where you need to exit your room and walk outside.
- Simon (10/5): Amazing location, awesome experience - We had a very lovely experience at the lodge - the location is increíble (secluded away from other accommodations, basically as far into the sea of reeds as one can get) with great 360 degree views, cozy rooms, excellent food, friendly staff. Highly recommended!
- david (8/5): Unique experirnce - Unique fabulous experience. Highly recommended. One day only though. Sit atop the tower and down a cold beer. Dress up warm for the evening. Complementary hot water bottles st night to keep you warm.
- Wailing (8/5): totally different experience, love it - comfortable stay, but don 't like the share shower and toliet.
- juan (8/5): Relaxing - Great staff , very nice family , beautiful scenery . Food was fine . I wish someone will find the way to add heaters to these hotels . It is all about nature and somehow feels like camping in the northwest of the US . Magical views you will never forget .
Chuveiro quente, porém o clima no lago é bem frio.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excelente - 100% recomendable. Atención, servicio, el lugar mágico.
- Manuel (10/5): - Elsa was incredible
- Verified traveler (10/5): Best experience in Puno - The experience of staying at this hotel as been, along with machu picchu, the highlights of our trip. Elsa and Juan (owners) are great, very helpful and honest.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Calm place - Nice hotel, nice local food, really calm.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing stay on the island. We felt so welcome and spent such a great time.
Wonderful experience
- Gonzalo (10/5): Increíble! - Un lugar mágico e imperdible, completamente surreal
- Kenneth (6/5): Peaceful and beautiful view of the lake - The view is beautiful. It is quiet and surrounded by nature. The lunch and dinner is in choice of fish and chicken and it tasted fresh. Not a lot of choices. Teas and coffee avaliable. You cannot really go in and out freely since you need a boat. One major problem was the shower. The room door doesnt close and the water kind of drips down. I tried it the first night and skipped the second. People I talked to skipped the shower altogether. The people are friendly. Great experience despite the shower situation
- Andre L (10/5): Experiência ótima e inusitada! - Local diferenciado.
Vale a ida.
L'isoletta è bella, piccola, accogliente e pulita.
- Lianne (6/5): Lovely on lake. Peaceful - Relaxed location. Nice views.
- Jeff (8/5): Seeing is believing this place... - Absolutely amazing part of the world. Juan, Elsa and Armond were incredibly gracious and helpful hosts. It's like living a National Geographic story.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Special, unique place - This is a floating island getaway. Not your normal place.very simple, very basic.a most unusual experience with great hosts.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great experience - This is a floating island in a remote area and it is very basic accommodation. Not for everyone except adventure seeking people.hosts are marvelous ,food very good.this isn't really a hotel,it's more like camping with beds and a nice simple room. Suggest check online and then decide if it is for you.
- pablo (2/5): avoid this scam! - terrible service, nobody was waiting for us in Puno port, finally they charged twice more than in was in the booking!
- Lauren (6/5): An authentic Peruvian experience - Getting to the floating hotel was a bit uncertain since we didn't have a phone, but gratefully our driver did and he called the hotel owner for us, and set up a meeting place at the lake for the transfer to the owner's ferry boat.
- Alexandra (10/5): Unique Cultral Experience - We loved Elsa and Juan so much, they were so nice for opening up their home to us. This is really a once in a life time experience and I WOULD HIGHLY RECCOMEND!!! We loved it!!!
- Jose Hermano (8/5): Vale a pena! - Experiencia muito interessante
- Verified traveler (4/5): Puno hut - No real shower facilities,
Hit your head if you stood up in the room
Not much choice for food
- David (10/5): Rockin' the island - Uros Aruma Uro is definitely one of the more interesting places one could stay--a floating island in the middle of lake Titicaca. It was a pleasant experience from start to finish, starting with a taxi meeting us at Puno bus station to take us to a remote boat launch where we were met by just about the cutest 3 year old girl in the whole world. From there we were ferried to the island where we were greeted by the family who live there and shown our (extra large) room. After dinner, entertainment, sleep (you can feel the island moving when you lie down) and a delicious breakfast of crepes, we were sent on our tour of Taquile island. When we returned to Puno after the tour, another taxi had been arranged to take us to our next hotel.
There are many floating islands doing homestays, but this one is set a bit away from the rest and, so, is a bit quieter and remote. Highly recommended.
Merci !
- Patricia (8/5): - This was such a wonderful Peruvian experience! Juan and Elsa are delightful hosts. We stayed for 2 nights and appreciated the hospitality and uniqueness of the island experience. We had a wonderful time chatting other travelers around the fire, stargazing and relaxing outdoors - it was so peaceful! It's definitely not a traditional hotel/tourist experience but we really enjoyed every minute!
- Verified traveler (10/5): unique experience - the island is beautiful and peaceful. the accommodation is obviously basic because you are staying on a traditional floating island but it's clean and comfortable. the family don't speak much English bit that keeps the experience authentic I think. the family are lovely and friendly. tip - opt for the transfers rather than making your own way there even though we made it very clear we needed to go at the port we got taken to a different island. overall I would recommend this unique stay
- Daniel (10/5): A one of a kind experience - this is a one of a kind hotel. We loved staying with Juan and Elsa, they are very acomodating and friendly. This little hotel is wonderful, unique, and believe it or not they have hot showers!!! Highly recommended.
- Lara C (8/5): Great experience, not for everyone - you're going to stay in a floating island own by native people from the Uros islands. The bathroom facilities are outside the room, it can get really cold at night and there is no calefaccion in the room. You'll have about 4 very thick and heavy blankets to keep you warm, and they'll give you a hot water bag before bed time. I found the place very clean taking into account I saw them washing the laundry (the guests beds sheets) and also the dishes by hand. It was an amazing experience, but don't expect a varied menu, they only offer one dish per meal and every meal will be $10 usd more. Yes, be ready to pay $10 usd for each meal and if you want to go fishing with them $10 usd more to help them fish.... an amazing experience too, but even you are "helping" won't be free. Make sure to ask for a container to urinate in your room at night, I didn't get it and had to find my way to the bathroom outside in the very cold middle of the night, and at some point at night the rooms lose the electricity, so I had to find my way in the very cold darkness of the night. You won't have wifi neither electrical outlets available. Get ready for total disconnection. If you want to charge your camera or some electronics, you'll have to give it to the owners of the island and they'll charge it and give it back to you later. With all these little "inconvenients", I think the experience was priceless and i would stay again in a future if I can.
- Pia (10/5): Amazing experience! Best place to stay in Puno! - The city of Puno doesn't have much to offer, the main attraction are the Uro Islands. It was amazing to stay in a island made of reeds. Of course there is no luxury but you have everything you need plus the best view from titicaca lake, delicious food and the host family is the sweetest!! Always willing to help, they tought us how to fish and knit like the locals. They give you extra blankets or anything you may ask to make your stay more comfortable. we didn't want to leave! Is a great place to relax and enjoy the nature. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
- None (10/5): Authentic experience - Was concerned it might be too gimick-y despite what other guests had said. However, it turned out to be the favorite stay for my 20 year old daughter who described it as the only place she felt truly relaxed. It was our first full day in Puno so getting away while we acclimated to the altitude made it a perfect location. Our hosts were attentive but not constantly in attendance so the family was able to relax as they liked. The boat ride activity was awesome; also laid fish nets out at night and collected them in the morning. Had a bit of a "tour" in a more authentic boat than the tourists in the double deckers! One of the best meals in Peru was served that night. Rain storm in the evening prevented us from enjoying the night sky but made for a wonderful sleep experience.
- Beth (10/5): A lovely experience... - We stayed for two nights on the island with Juan and Elsa - the island is amazing and they are lovely hosts. The rooms are lovely and they even provided a hot water bottle each night - not that it was needed with the lovely thick blankets. It was nice to see the islands without being surrounded by the normal tourist boats.
