Guest Reviews
- Paul (6/5): - Very basic for the need. Awkward after hours front desk. No Safes in rooms. Door locks very minimal.
- Brenda (8/5): - The staff was very friendly and kind. The air conditioning worked very well.
- Diane (10/5): - The hotel is close to all the excitement that PVR has to offer. The staff were very friendly and helpful! I really enjoyed my time there.
- Joseph (8/5): - It was cosy and great for a night or two.
- R (8/5): - The staff are nice and they keep this place clean. It is a little run down and needs skme repairs. But seriously, the kindness of the staff made up for it.
- dan (10/5): - Good economical place to stay just off very loud Romantic zone, great value and nice people!
- Rebecca (10/5): - Just right.
- David (10/5): Will be returning to Vallarta! - Close to everything. Air conditioning! Food all around! Safe.
- MarinaK (8/5): - The people and location is excellent...I was happy to get such a nice place at the last minute during high season. My favorite farmer's markets were close..and everything else I love in the romantic zone was an easy walk also...stay went out of their way to be helpful...I think next time I would like to stay at a balcony room...
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean Hotel - Hotel is ok. Good if you don’t want a fancy room. Basic room, ac was great, large shower, strange shower door, beds are a little hard.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I’ve stayed here before and loved it! The cleanliness was on point. The people that work behind the desk were kind and answered lots of questions for me.
- Tomas (10/5): - Love that i had privacy and was never disturbed and that i only wanted my room cleaned 2 times in my week there and they honored that but cleaned my towels and floor mats when i requested they where very friendly and helpful and outgoing
- Verified traveler (2/5): - There was no elevator and the stairs were uneven and the entire structure did not look like a 3 star hotel. It looked like it was not professionaly constructed.
- ZenSensual (2/5): - I booked on line and made a mistake on the date. I checked availability for the actual date i needed which was November 30 and they had vacancy which was over a month away from my departure date. I contacted them an hour later when i noticed my mistake and they would not give me a credit or refund. Poor customer service when it didnt cost them anything or have any loss on my account..
- Stephen (10/5): Good Place - Nothing fancy, but in great location, desk & housekeeping staff great attitudes. I will stay here again without problem.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very affordable place and good location i will be back
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good Value, not a great night's sleep. - The room was run-down, but clean. The bed was very hard. It was very noisy and the windows didn't close completely so it was difficult to sleep. Music was happening all night (Saturday night).
- Lindy (8/5): Very economical basic hotel - I got this room for an excellent price. Great location. Surrounded by a multitude of shops, restaurants and bars. Short walk to beach and Malecon. Wifi was sketchy. All staff were nice but the daytime female supervisor was always very sweet and kind. Very pleasant. She allowed us to extend checkout until 1:30. I would definitely stay here again. It’s basic, simple but practical for our needs. Thank you Hotel Hortencia.
- Fredy (6/5): Friendly staff - Mattress really hard, is time to replace it, bad pillows, no internet
- allan (8/5): - Great staff and service, very friendly and welcoming although it can be noisy at night
- Paul-Henri (8/5): Bed was bad. At least they correct It for m'y 3 la - It's a good hotel, staff Nice and Room clean. Its juste the bed Who was rerribly hard and they correct It after that i ask twice. I Think i might go back because at the END,It wasva pleasant stay
- Paul (8/5): With a good bed could be perfect.. - Everything is ok with this hôtel exception the bed really bad enough to stop me to return. Very hard to sleep Well White à bed hard as rock
- ashley (10/5): Great hotel no thanks great pillows - I think was good pillows sucked and shower head broke
- Dylan (6/5): Perfect location, could use some upkeep, cheap. - The Good: Couldn't ask for a better location. It's at the heart of the Old Town scene, surrounded by tasty fare, nightlife, shops of all kinds, and a short walk from the beach and Malecon. It's clean, the staff are friendly. Bus stops for most routes are all nearby--e.g. 7.5 pesos to/from the airport; 8 pesos to Boca de Tomatlon.
The Not-So-Good: We had the water go out on us two nights in a row and the night manager wasn't particularly cheerful or expeditious in his handling of the situation. Each room seems to have it's own unique quirky broken or barely-functional components--e.g. shower head, shower door, toilet.
Things to Keep in Mind: The staff speaks very little English. A large portion of the building appeared to be mid-demolition during our stay. There's a cantina next door that plays loud bumping jams day and night.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place but unfinnished - stayed 3 nights. worked out great for spending time in old town. Estelle was nice and very helpful.
- Donna (8/5): Nice hotel.. good location. - we had 2 rooms booked. they worked with us to get us on the same floor. It's an old hotel with lots of charm, good airconditioning. they are remodeling the rooms. Much care is given to the clients and their comfort.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good hotel, near cheap restaurants, near 24hs open minimarket, 4 blocks from the beach, friendly and helpfull staf.
- John (8/5): Good Stay for Five Nights - Okay hotel several blocks away from the Malecon in a less touristy area of PV. Although the hotel is an older building, the room I stayed in was clean and comfortable. The air conditioner worked well, as did the wifi. The television was an older model and reception was not good, but no problem for me as I was not in PV to watch tv. Hot water in the shower and bathroom sink was plentiful. The staff were very nice. The only downside was the cantina next door were music blasted till late at night.
- BARBARA (8/5): Great stay - I loved my stay at Hotel Hortencia the staff was very friendly and helpful always there if you had any questions. Hotel was very clean and comfortable, the beds were a little hard but otherwise very good especially the room rates were fantastic. Hotel staff was super friendly would definitely stay here again.
- Victor. (8/5): Nice hotel close to everything. - Nice experience, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great hotel! - The staff were so incredibly friendly! The shower could be improved, but overall I really enjoyed my stay.
- Ellen (8/5): Great staff and location! - Nice place. I booked one night thru Hotels.com which was all that as available. When I arrived I asked if I could stay another night and all they had for the following night was a suite. So, they gave me the suite for both nights. Sweet!
- allan (8/5): Nice economic hotel, close to night life - Staff are very helpful and friendly. Provide good service
- Peter (8/5): Love it here! - I was stayin at the hotel Tropicana and other than the beach location it compares very favourably to that hotel except the price.I've been in Puerto Vallarta many times and it is a great value and I would highly recommend it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Some construction currently going on. Great location! Great staff!
- Ronnie (8/5): Nice Proprietor and Staff - Hotel Hortencia is by no means luxurious, it is in fact a rather basic hotel, but the location is great, it is only 4 or 5 short blocks from the beach, with courteous and helpful staff, the proprietor is friendly and attentive, there are quite a few returning guests I spoke to, the hotel is expanding, the week I was there, they just opened up three more rooms in the new part of the hotel, there are also a lot of cheap eats on the street with food kiosks dotted along the street, there are also higher-ends restaurants a couple of blocks away. The only problem I had was the first night I was there, there was loud music from a Cantina next to the hotel, but it didn't last as late or as long as I feared. I will definitely stay there again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Eeeks! - I booked for 8 days, stayed 1 night and then checked out. Need I say more?
- Erik (6/5): pleasant staff at decent low cost hotel - Was on 4th floor walkup, but air conditioner cooled small room quickly. Appreciated the firm mattress
- Verified traveler (10/5): Hotel Hortensia - Clear comfortable and inexpensive. The staff was great . It was like living with a nice family.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great place for price. Very close to the beach. Nice staff.
- Verified traveler (4/5): near beach & food. Clean. Staff friendly. - Totally not my standard. Room had no chair, bed too too close to wall, no elevator if one has more then 1 bag. Check in was very easy.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great place! - I stayed for three days. For the value, a great place to stay and very close to downtown. Owner and staff are very friendly. The only drawback is that a bar is next door so expect loud music until morning.
- Michael (6/5): Relaxing - About 3 or 4 blocks to the beach.
- constance (6/5): great hotel for price - I normally stay at casa dona when I come by myself, no rooms so I tried out the hortencia. You basically get the same room style as the casa dona, bed and shower, good for one person. and it was 70 dollars cheaper a night, great water pressure, rooms clean, I stayed on 3rd floor, which is a lot of walking upstairs especially after all day of walking. one thing I didn't like, is no face towels available to wash your face. you get one towel for drying and one for floor to step out on. all the people working there, are soooo friendly and helpful, when I first got there, I didn't know if I was going to stay, then I looked around and basically all the hotels that are cheaper, don't give you a faceclothe and offer about the same, so if you want a clean place to lay your head only, this is the place, really 20 bucks a night, I used the pool at my friends hotel and beach there. the bed is hard, but aren't all in pv hard beds...there is a community fridge, water cooler and kitchen and microwave..they will also do laundry for you, It cost me less than $5.00, great place to save money, like all hotels in pv, you do have your bar noise that is close by, I am use to it, but im sure people that aren't use to pv will complain, but im use to all the noise....
- Ruth (8/5): Great value for the price of the room - I enjoyed the staff and the convenience of things. Masseuse across the street, hair cut down the street, jeweller for repairs nearby, and best of all I loved the street food vendors, again, just across the street. It wasn't far to the beach to enjoy the board walk there and their restaurants. Not fancy but all you needed.
- Sjoerd L. (8/5): Pleasant - Good fallible for the money but need to look into some details for safety gas and electric
- c (4/5): Decent location. Staff great. Facility run down. - Amenities minimal. Drinking water only available in lobby.
- rebecca (6/5): Decent budget hotel - This was fine for a budget hotel, pretty clean, friendly staff etc. The rooms have basic amenities however our ac didn't work. The building is slowly doing Reno's but word is its a slow process, meaning many years.. The upper terrace provides a nice space to hear the sounds of the city, and is barely finished with a lot of exposed rebar etc... Depending on your style this might be dumpy, But for us was lovely in its own way..would recommend for someone with basic needs! Great price..
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Safe, clean, water water.....TV, air, fan. What more can I say, all of this for a VERY reasonable cost.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Bed and a shower, nothing more - This is a NO FRILLS hotel in the heart of the romantic zone. You can walk to anywhere and experience the local charm. Don't expect...anything really, except a bed and a shower. Bed was very hard but sheets were clean and serviced everyday. Shower had hot water and good pressure. You get a towel each day, shampoo/soap and nothing more. Did have cable TV with a few English channels. There were only 10 or so rooms (1/2 gutted for a renovation at some point), and the place was full.
If you want a place for your stuff and a place to sleep and was the day off for a night on the town, stay here and save your money...everything else. 1/2 of the place is still under re-construction but nothing going on. No pool, no nothing (including phones). Free wifi that worked great until day 5, then was a bit sketchy.
The staff is VERY friendly and helpful and available 24/7. I would go back again because it is CHEAP and I can spend my VaCa money on having a good time in PV.
