Guest Reviews
- Hunter (1/5): Mediocre at best - Location Shower

- AudreyD (10/5): I will be back again!!! - It was cozy and comfortable N/A
- Nicholas (10/5): - Very clean. Enjoyed the back patio. Was very enjoyable.
- Tetiana (10/5): -
- Alexandra (9/5): -
- Masche (8/5): Cute and cozy - Super cute little lodge. I don’t know what times staff are around, but in the limited hours I was there, there wasn’t any staff. Would have been nice to go inside the front desk/lobby area, but like I said, I was there early morning and late evening so that’s probably why.
- Johnathan (10/5): Stayed here for mine and my girlfriend’s 2 year anniversary it was really cozy and we didn’t want to leave, definitely w - I loved how nice the staff were and how clean the area and room was besides the snow/icy parts and the area is close to a lot of resources and you could see spirit mountain from our window. Nothing really just the door was kinda hard to unlock and open and the parking lot is kinda small and tight when there are a lot of cars.
- Christopher (9/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): - I stayed in a newly renovated room. It was very nice! The space was cozy, clean, and one of my favorite things was the back patio door, which was perfect for my dog! I imagine the outdoor space is awesome in the warmer months as well.
- Desiree (10/5): The proerty was what we hoped for. - We didn't have breakfast. The location wa perfectly aligned with son's home and reception venue. Our room was large, comfortable, and attractive. It is an older property but friendly, clean, welcoming.
- Mary (5/5): Upon entering the room, it had a faint smell of stale beer. - No complimentary breakfast, no ice machine, no vending machines. No complimentary breakfast, no ice machine, no vending machines. Could not use the outdoor deck area. Got stung by a wasp from the paper wasp nest on the door head. Manager said that he would remove but didn't.
- Tabitha (10/5): -
- Melissa (10/5): Can't wait to book for another trip next year! - Sitting around the fire pit in the evening. Staff helpful and friendly.
- Joel (4/5): BAIT AND SWITCH - I do like being able to park in front of my room and we did enjoy the fire pits in back. Was a total bait and switch. We reserved two Deluxe Double Rooms. These were advertised as featuring "a wooden deck with a view of the Munger Trail and a fire pit. There is a kitchenette as well." Instead we were given two ultra small rooms with no deck and no kitchenette. However, we were charged for the Deluxe Double Rooms.
- Aubrey (10/5): - Location was good.
- Nancy (7/5): Okay for a short stay. - No breakfast, not a great location. It was clean and bed was comfortable. Not a great location. Lots of motorcycles going by and a train very close.
- Becca (10/5): Wonderful! - Backyard area with grill and fire pit were so nice. Nice deck area to sit. Rooms very clean. Nice to have the pull out futon. Quiet. Free zoo passes.
Kind staff.

- Melinda (9/5): A lovely, historic place to stay (read their history on their website) close to hiking sites. - Located right off of Highway 23, the facility was easy to find. The room was incredibly clean and well-maintained. The grounds are very relaxed with established plantings, a firepit, and grills. The staff was very attentive and efficient. I called for extras towels and they were delivered in less than 5 minutes. Some small additions would be helpful...a towel bar next to the bathroom sink, a few more hooks in the bathroom for towels or a towel bar, an extra bar of soap for the shower. I'm not sure where to put this, but the room I booked was not the room we were put in (a queen size bed rather than a king size). I called staff and they offered to show us another room which ended up being perfect. So even though the initial room wasn't what I booked, staff made it right very quickly.
- Allen (8/5): Quiet, relaxing, beautiful grounds Loved the comforter and pillows - Did not have breakfast. But had a hot dog, chips, beans and coke. A nice surprise. Hit the spot. Could not use the TV. Couldn’t figure out the remote or wondered if it needed batteries. No one around and did not feel it was important to call the number for after hours
- Haha (7/5): -
- Debbie (10/5): - Loved it. It was perfect
- Aaron (10/5): -
- Harrison (9/5): It was very pleasant - The cleaniness A little more heating
- Kathleen (10/5): -
- Glorrian (10/5): Have stayed here before and would definitely recommend it to anyone. - The staff is great. Very friendly and helpful. I liked everything about this property.
- Louise (10/5): -
- Wipperfurth (10/5): -
- Breanna (9/5): A hidden gem. - Very cozy room. Easy check in, nice amenities. The owner has a super cute black lab that's very friendly. We stayed in room 205 and the batteries for the tv remote need to be changed. Or the TV is bad? Took us forever to get the tv on and we couldn't change channels or mess with the volume. We left very early otherwise I would have told the owners first hand.
To the next guy: 2 AAA batteries might make your stay just a little bit easier.
- Thomas (7/5): -
- Lizabeth (10/5): Everything I was wanting and I'd definitely stay again! - Cozy, northwoods feel, warm, comfortable and my room was upgraded at no additional cost. It was all great!
- Steve (10/5): - This was our second stay here. We love this little hotel. It has a rich history to the area.
The owner is the third generation to operate it.
The rooms are cozy, clean and comfortable.
- Mcrae (8/5): Great stay for an amazing price! Highly recommend! - Adorable, comfortable room. Feels like home! Could not use the back door to get out on the deck, as it was broke. Owner was advised, he will fix it!
- Garcia (9/5): - I like the look and clean and comfortable The door was hard to open.
- Melayna (9/5): -
- Cornellier (9/5): We will be staying here again. - The room was clean. Our room had small nook with a sink, microwave and a small fridge/freezer that actually worked. The sheets were soft with an adequate comforter to keep you warm. The also had a small blanket at the end of the bed if you needed it, which I appreciated. The towels were big and thick. The sink counter in the bathroom is small. To run the TV you need to use your cable sign on, otherwise you will be watching re-runs.
- Angela (8/5): Pleasant - Clean Not enough wash cloths
- Jonathan (10/5): Great stay! - The room was great! We liked the outdoor space as well. Nice area to relax. The owner is really nice as well. The free zoo pass was an added bonus. The zoo had a special event going that we should have had to pay for. The owner said I cover the admission to the zoo for free for guests. No exceptions. He told the zoo he will come pay for our tickets. The best service we’ve ever had at a hotel. The zoo is one minute away. Nothing.
- John (10/5): - Staff was friendly. Room seemed extremely clean as well as the grounds. Bed was excellent ,as well were the bath towels! Only real complaint was the bathroom was very tiny, could barely maneuver in the shower, and I'm not a large person.
- Lyla (10/5): Cozy place to stay! - It’s very cozy and feels more like a cabin! There wasn’t anything we didn’t like! Staff was so nice and welcoming! We WILL be back and have told family & friends about this cute place.
- Nancy (9/5): -
- Kay (7/5): -
- Bonnie (10/5): - Loved the outdoor fire pit and free firewood
- Halford (10/5): Great stay! Luv Duluth! - We ended up being upgraded to a fantastic space with kitchen and extra bedroom due to a mixup in names. The guy was very nice! It was a great stay! Nothing.
- Howard (10/5): - Wonderful!!
- Joshua (8/5): -
- Gerardo (8/5): Disfrute de la cordialidad de la gente de Duluth - No tuve desayuno. Ubicacion excelente si vas a Spirit Mountain. Buen servicio Un poco dewsactualizado. Baño pequeño
- Betty (10/5): Our room was larger than we thought! Very pleasantly surprised ! - All was great
- Brandi (9/5): Cute and quaint little Inn - The Inn was so cute and comfortable! We loved the deck and spacious rooms!!
- Helen (5/5): Would not stay here again. Would not recommend to friends unless they wanted a no frills place. - They "upgraded" me to a king bed. Really not necessary as I was traveling alone. There was no breakfast, no cable TV. There were no grocery stores nor restaurants nearby. Pretty out of the way. I was in a lower room and on two nights, at 1:30 in the morning, someone was moving around above me, moving furniture, walking around for two hours, and dropping things on the floor. Even with sleeping pills, this woke me. The second time it happened, I asked for a new room and they said the person in the room was leaving early for Hawaii and was probably up packing.
- Nicholas (10/5): - Amazing place. Absolutely loved it. Will be back.
- Maureen (8/5): We would like to stay there again! - Our room was very nice and had a living room area, plus the bedroom area. I thought having a deck off of the back of the room was very nice (fyi: not all rooms have the deck). It is very close to the William Munger bike trail, which we didn’t use, but maybe we would another time and it is nice for those who like to bike to know! Also, there is a nice walking trail around a nearby campground. Whoever was next door to us was loud during the night on several occasions.
- Kevin J (8/5): - Enjoyed it very much
- Ben (5/5): - The bed was comfortable There was hair in the shower, there was a half smoked joint on the floor
- Robert (5/5): Nice folks but a dubious value - Easy check-in and check-out with a knowledgeable, friendly manager. A bit noisy, both from neighboring rooms and the road. A bit skimpy on amenities, such as a bath mat. For this, the room rate should have been 25% lower.
- Edwin (6/5): - Shower was very slippery needs slip resistant mat. Difficult to figure out heat process. Good for over night stay. Cost was too high for room in our opinion
- Melissa (10/5): Nostalgic stay next to easy nature trail - Loved the nostalgic setting with sufficient updates for modern convenience and comfort. Having the nature trail just outside the door was also wonderful. I was even able to easily extend my stay on short notice.
- Mary (8/5): -
- Denise (10/5): Great location and room, we recommend!! - The location was perfect, the room was clean, comfortable and the owner/Mgr was very kind & helpful!!! Would definitely recommend staying here, we will definitely stay here again when we’re in the area!! Nothing
- Virginia (8/5): -
- Jill (4/5): - It was clean. There was no central air conditioning or heat. No counterspace in the bathroom. Very narrow space to walk around the bed. There was air conditioning & a heater. It’s very close to the street & was very noisy because of traffic.
- Kierra (9/5): -
- Magnusson (8/5): Great place to stay for outdoors activities. - Close to several trails for walking and biking. Clean and comfortable room. I liked the little deck outside my room. The wifi was very slow.
- Paul (1/5): - Hotel did not honor my reservation. Said they were full and no rooms available.
- Kirk (8/5): - The rooms at this property were clean and reasonably spacious for the price. They are a little bit older. They have older traditional keys not electronic keys. The shower was as small as I have ever seen in a hotel room. I did appreciate that there was an apartment size fridge and freezer a bed and a futon in the room.
- glen (8/5): - Fire pit and grill was great. Old place but nice condition. Staff were real nice and friendly.
- Rita (10/5): -
- Epperson (10/5): Comfy, cozy and clean! Will 100% be coming back! - Comfy beds and love that they have fire pits and fire wood that you can use to have a fire!
- Mairose (8/5): - Very easy to drive to, park, and get luggage to our room.
The staff went above and beyond to ensure a great stay.
- Lee (8/5): - This is a clean, friendly, and safe motel in Duluth.
- Julie (9/5): -
- APRIL (10/5): - Quaint, quiet and friendly
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Was a bit leery when I pulled up but the room was charming. Nicely updated, very clean with lots of extras like full size fridge and coffeemaker, micro and huge fluffy towels. Comfy bed and nice recliner with an outdoor seating/bbq area as well. Great location with bike and hiking trails right behind the building.
- Jansma (8/5): -
- Lynda Denver (10/5): Wonderful few days - Was wonderful. Fire pits, BBQ, clean. Nothing
- Julie (10/5): - Friendly staff, comfortable stay, right on the trail.
it was a treat to meet a member of the Munger family. Willard Munger did great things for conservation and the environment!. He helped lay the groundwork for modern Minnesota environmental policy, emphasizing sustainability and stewardship.
- Rachel (9/5): -
- Jennifer (9/5): - I booked this stay based on the reviews, so I wanted to leave one also. My husband and I drove up to Duluth for the night so that we would be closer to the camp our son and the rest of the church youth were at. We needed to pick them up early in the morning, and a close stay made for a much better day than driving up 4 hours in the morning! This was exactly the moderate budget room we needed, but so much more! The motel staff was incredibly helpful and kind, and the property is immaculately maintained. We took the last room, which was the king jacuzzi suite. Not sad about that. The room had a little deck off the back with access to the beautiful backyard space the owners have created. There are two barbeque stations and a fire pit that has comfy seating around it-fire wood provided for free! The room was sparkling clean, and the effort to keep up the older property shows. My husband was not a fan of the very soft bed, and because of that slept poorly. It's the only negative we experienced. We even made use of the free Lake Superior Zoo passes. I would definitely come back to spend another night or two to explore Duluth in a new way of the bikes they provide and reading on the back deck. I absolutely recommend this quaint motel to any travel that enjoys a slow quiet stay, knowledgeable and kind owners, and a touch of nostalgia. Bed was too soft for the husband, but I was a fan. The bedding was new and very clean.
- Kristin (8/5): Wonderful, convenient and accommodating!! - They were very accommodating and we got free coffee in morning!!
- Jennifer (8/5): - Nice clean motel room.
- Daniel (8/5): -
- Alma (9/5): - loved the shower bathroom a little small
- Matthew (6/5): - Room was cozy
- David (10/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): - This property was not the newest, but it was clean, next to trails, enough room for our crew, friendly staff, just what we were looking for.
- Angie (9/5): - Room was great!!!
- Lauren (8/5): - I had a few last minute changes to make regarding my payment method and the staff was very helpful. The room wasn’t fancy and for a multi-night stay I would have upgraded the room. That being said as I was only staying one night it was a clean and comfortable place to sleep.
- mark (8/5): - Always friendly staff and very helpful
- Seirra (10/5): - Great place for the price! Clean, appreciated the mini fridge/freezer, cute back patio with fire pits and grill area. Right next to trails and the old railcar came by. Not far from Duluth canal park at all!
We were getting in late so we checked in over the phone. We checked out early so just dropped the key in after hours box. Did not utilize staff or breakfast so can't comment on that.
- Duane (10/5): - Rustic place. Great hot dgos. Real keys. Owners real nice.
- Teri Rennie (9/5): Safe and updated outdoorsy feel - Loved the outdoorsy feel. The owner has a lot of pride in the inn and was very friendly and informative. Zoo admission was included in my stay. Room was updated. Large TV, microwave and large mini fridge. Fire pits off the back of your mini deck. All very cozy. Just be wary that it's a little drive into Duluth, less than 10 miles.
- Guy (8/5): - Ok
- Bonnie (10/5): Hidden Gem - Great stay! Hidden little gem. It’s a 5-10 drive from the busier parts of town. There’s a porch and fire pits in the back to relax after a days of adventures. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. The property owner was great too. Will definitely stay here again.
- Mary R (8/5): - great big room with a lot of space. loved being next to hiking trails. outdoor area with grills and firepits was great. My daughter said the mattress in the bedroom was very uncomfortable.
- Amy (8/5): - Compact room but clean and nicely renovated. Back terrace to a small yard was perfect for traveling with my dog. Hiking trails with Lake Superior views super close.
- glen (7/5): -
- Randall (10/5): - I was pleasantly surprised of the overall condition of the Hotel, for the price. I think we paid just over $100.00 per night. It was more than I expected. The bathroom window was so clean more than once I thought it was open. The bed was very comfortable and the wood deck outside was a good touch.
- Jack (9/5): It would be nice to find more places like this in my travels. - Very clean and unkept well. Had a nice little balcony and table on it for refreshments or snacking. Bed was very comfortable. Great little walking/biking trail out the back door. Staff was very helpful in accommodating our late arrival. Very nice stay for the price. Only thing I can say negative about it was the rooms were a bit small.
