Guest Reviews
- locke (9/5): Staff and hotel excellent plus great food - Brilliant position, lovely outside siting area. Food is top class.
Amazing staff in every department. Spa massage one of the best.
- Duncan (7/5): -
- Bailey (10/5): - Everything, the staff made us feel really welcome and special throughout our stay - collection and drop off of bags/us (we chose to walk) from the boats set this tone from the start. The rooms were incredibly clean and comfortable, and the breakfasts and food at the restaurant were consistently great, including the lobster caught right the other side of the window from our table! I can't really fault anything, food/the accommodation itself isn't cheap, but nothing is in Scilly and the experience was lovely.
- James (8/5): Lovely relaxing stay, surrounded by the rugged and unspoilt beauty of the Isles of Scilly - Veiws from the room were perhaps the most memorable and peaceful of anywhere I have stayed. Rugged yet beautiful and completely un sploit. Super comfy beds and good breakfast selection. Staff were alway super helpful and welcoming. The lounge and games area was brillant and nice touch with the record player however it was not very big. Cushions and blankets for the chairs outside would have been nice. The window didnt shut completely so had a bit of a draft and noise from the wind.
- Alison (6/5): -
- Jeanette (9/5): -
- Maike (10/5): - Sensationell Lage tolles Hotel, tolle Menschen. Einmal reinschnuppern wir sich ein Inselleben anfühlt
- David S (9/5): -
- Elizabeth (8/5): Beautiful, peaceful hotel to relax in - Excellent location, friendly staff, nice room. Excellent food Water pressure not good for a shower
- Maggie (5/5): Very poor value, run down. - Amazing location, kind staff. Whole place needs a refurbishment, soulless, full of dogs. Definitely not luxurious, feels run down, no longer provide robes very odd Scottish cheap toiletries, thin loo roll and our towel rail was held together with electrical tape. Pool decommissioned years ago. Massive mini bar full of sweets and booze with cake stand display that continues on side. Huge pile of rubbish in courtyard that looks like it’s been there for years.
- Karen (6/5): Mostly very enjoyable, but a little disappointing for the money paid. - Fantastic location
Attentive staff
Very dog friendly Our room had a really nasty smell about it
It was a dog friendly room, so I didn’t expect perfection. I think perhaps the carpet had been cleaned and was not fully dry. However, we were greeted by a ‘nasty niff’ each time we returned to the room, in spite of leaving the windows open all day.
The linen definitely needs replacing. One of the bath sheets I had actually had holes in it. For the price of the room, I expected better.
The hotel is definitely in need of a re vamp!
It all looks rather tired for the amount of money paid.
- Evmorfia (8/5): - The staff were so kind and accommodating, honestly besides the location the highlight of the property is the staff. The location is beautiful, it’s right on the beach and we had the best view of the water. It felt a bit too expensive for what it was, but you’re paying more for the location. Breakfast was a bit underwhelming.
- Max (7/5): -
- Sam (10/5): -
- Marcus (10/5): -
- Annette (9/5): -
- Tatiana (9/5): Superb - Great place for a ZEN holoday
- Lucas (10/5): - Staff and location / surroundings were both excellent!
- David (10/5): Exceptional - The location is fantastic. The scenery is just beautiful and the waters so turquoise like the Caribbean. People are so friendly too. It is dog friendly, which is why we chose it and the whole islands are dog friendly too. A couple of areas of the resort could do with a bit of maintenance tlc like few loose slats on balcony and loose window catches, but nothing that bothered us much.
- Natasha (10/5): Just...wow - Absolutely everything was a delight. We were fetched straight off the boat, served complimentary drinks on the terrace (right on the beach!) whilst awaiting check in. Our room was huge, and we had a breathtaking view of the ocean. We ate at the restaurant, there was a limited menu but each dish was of delicious quality. I loved how dog-friendly it was, having the opportunity to make friends with several happy pooches! We only had time to stay one night but I really hope we can go back and stay longer!
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful dining room looking out directly over Tean Sound. Continental style breakfast was excellent N / A
- Andi (3/5): Potential paradise totally spoiled by greedy management - St Martins is beautiful and worth a day trip. This hotels location is excellent but the price point is high which leads to certain expectations, the property's management and staff failed to deliver on every level. We booked for the weekend and left after 1 day, which was too long. This hotel groups main aim appears to be to exploit guests for as much money as possible, with absolute minimal investment or spending. They are even charging £2 extra for biscuits on the tea tray in the room!
To be clear, I dont mind paying for quality but...
Our room was very dated, bland and small (12m2 of usable space) with a ground floor view of an enclosed courtyard, dog exercise/toileting/barking area, definitely not the advertised double deluxe garden view room @£420 per night. Room was way smaller and less equipped for comfort than than a standard room in a travel lodge block.
Telephone did not work, slow WiFi, no AC in the room, two single beds pushed together with an uncomfortable matress and only a (dirty) duvet and overblanket, no summer sheet provided (it was late June and 30 degrees in the room), no pay TV (sports etc on site) room service arrangements very unclear and food generally massivly overpriced and poor quality.
Site was not clean with rubbish not.properly disposed of or tidied up, empty plates and broken glass in the gardens for at least 12 hours, not good with all the dogs on site.
We did not eat dinner here based on reviews from other travellers, the pub 5 mins walk away was very pleasant with a good atmosphere and sensibly priced.
Breakfast was a disaster, very poor quality food, little choice and diabolical service, - decent coffees are charged as extras.
The management are arrogant to say the least, constructive feedback ignored, various offers to appease us (discount on dinner, free spa treatments etc.) All rejected, I prefer honestly, some reviews here are clearly paid or provided by timeshare owners ( this hotel has many). Read the booking details closely, the room descriptions are not representative, check what is missing.
Night 2 was refunded only following intervention by booking.com.
- Derek (9/5): Wonderful - Couldn't imagine a more stunning location - it is magical
Staff were very, very welcoming and could not do more to make the stay comfortable
Food was wonderful too Was expensive - however you do get what you pay for!
- Percy (4/5): - Karma is the only hotel on St Martins - an off island from St Mary's.
We booked it for a special one off night and there were some positive aspects to our stay (the welcome drinks, the views, the hospitatable welcome off the boat) but overall we were underwhelmed given how expensive the nightly rate is.
Little things like;
- you have to pay mini bar prices to eat the standard packet of biscuits in your room
- you have to pay to upgrade a normal coffee to anything else at breakfast.
- beds are 2 singles rather than a genuine king size
- the shower didn't get warm
- the towel rail didn't work and looked like it had a temporary repair with tape
- the room itself isn't really anything out of the ordinary for the money
- the bathtub is relatively narrow.
Given we were only staying for 1 night - most of these issues could only be flagged during check out. For the shower issue - I would have expected some kind of compensation being offered.
- Yajurva (9/5): Superb -
- Jeremy (9/5): Fantastic location on a beautiful island - The reception staff were brilliant with ideas of things to do, and organising luggage etc. Great spot for swimming (the sea is very cold though!) The hotel is lovely, but a little bit soul-less.
- Sally (9/5): Superb -
- Rabett (7/5): Good -
- Shelley (10/5): Amazing - Amazing location. Wonderful, helpful staff.great room. Comfy beds.
- Jeremy (5/5): Beautiful location but overpriced and pretentious - Beautiful location, helpful staff Too many reminder emails / phone calls before arriving. Asked for extra check details which it turned out weren't needed.
Fridge in bedroom was completely full of chargeable drinks - no room for our use as guests
Only tea and coffee in bedroom were free, even biscuits were chargeable!
Breakfast disappointing, e.g. poor quality juices and fruit salad was all apple
Rather a pretentious place, e.g. Silver Porsche reg K4 RMA
Would be fine if we weren't paying so much
- Caroline (10/5): - The location of the property is exceptional.
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Nigel (10/5): So peaceful - The location and staff were fantastic Nothing
- Helen (10/5): Excellent location and staff - Excellent location and staff who are very friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have a good time. Very relaxed atmosphere and very dog friendly too. It is on the slightly pricey side and not really any alternative nearby but having said that we were only there 2 nights so didn’t matter and we did have a wonderful time
- Christian (10/5): - The property was beautiful. Surrounded by the sea and wildlife.
Staff were really helpful and friendly.
- Tom (8/5): . - . .
- Alistair (10/5): Exceptional -
- Theresa (8/5): Saving up to go again. It is unique. - Second time staying at Karma St Martins. It has a lovely exclusive atmosphere but is also friendly and relaxing within a wonderful setting. Staff really try to do their best for you. As with all the Scillies, it is an expensive stay simply due to the location and seasonal limitations.
- Godfrey (10/5): Excellent hotel by the sea - Delightful situation overlooking beach and islands.
Very helpful staff. The only criticism would be lack of variety and cost of menu.
- Amanda (10/5): Fabulous location. - Stunning location. Great staff.
- Fitzgerald (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (6/5): Absolutely outstanding views on a fabulous island, the hotel could be improved by offering more choice in food options - If you have a dog you will love this hotel. We are not dog owners so we were a little concerned that the room would smell, fortunately the room didn’t but the corridor did. The hotel is a little tired and apart from the location has nothing to make it worth the cost. Not up to modern standards, food ok but not great
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Jane (8/5): karma hotel - room very clean and comfy bed. bar menu seating area
- Julie (9/5): An excellent start to our Honeymoon....we hope you enjoyed the cake 😉 - The location
The Staff were excellent, informative, friendly, helpful
Great breakfast
Accommodating with dietary needs Too many dogs
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Catherine (8/5): Beautiful relaxing stay with very friendly staff and guests. - Very friendly staff. Beautiful
Location and comfortable room. Shower wasn’t hot enough!
- Matt (8/5): Very good -
- Jayne (10/5): Excellent 3 night stay in a stunning location. - Fabulous location
Friendly and very efficient staff
Good quality food Nothing!
- Fiona (10/5): A stay to remember for all the right reasons - The setting was stunning! The staff super helpful. The food was great and it was spotlessly clean. The area was also interesting and very beautiful Maybe the menu could have been a tiny but more varied?
- Nathan (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning location, staff excellent.
- Keith (10/5): from the moment we arrived , staff were excellent . - breakfast was amazing , everything you could want , from full English breakfast to continental pastries and fruit and juices. we cannot complain about anything , it met our expectations plus more.
- Lynda (8/5): - St Martins is very quiet, great if you want to really unwind, great for walking & dog friendly,
- Ivana (10/5): Paradise - Location and so dog friendly 🐾❤️
- Seetal (8/5): Location, location, location! - Location and staff Less the property and more the cost for the facilities available.
- Olly (10/5): Exceptional - Staff are unbelievably good. Look after you from the moment you get off the boat. Nothing!
- Cressida (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (10/5): Everything about the hotel exceeded out expectations. - Everything about the hotel, surroundings and staff. Everything about the hotel, surroundings and staff.
- Derek (9/5): Superb -
- Liz (9/5): Superb -
- Natalie (10/5): Wonderful, memorable stay in a beautiful hotel - loved every moment. - The staff at Karma St Martin's are absolutely brilliant, they are efficient but friendly and take the time to talk to guests. From being met on the quay to sorting out all your departure arrangements to great food and service, a stunning location and a beautiful room, we were delighted with our stay. Bea and Zoe in the bar and restaurant and Shalom on Reception were particularly noteworthy. Charging for biscuits seemed a bit steep. Food is quite expensive but the quality is consistently high.
- Marie-Claire (10/5): - The entire experience was out of this world. Views to die for, so welcoming and private. The room was absolutely immaculate with outstanding facilities. There is nothing they hadn't thought of. If you love walking, swimming and tranquillity, this is the holiday for you. Great food and wine and the breakfast is exceptional. Everything was so magical, this has been our best holiday ever. Karma has the most beautiful vibe. A truly unforgettable experience.
- Leigh (10/5): Perfect, peaceful and relaxing. - Lovely room, food was superb. Staff are lovely. View of beach was perfect. Nothing to dislike.
- Matthew (9/5): Lovely made better with excellent weather - Location and design Dining room and unused room on the first floor with the views?
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bruce (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sally (8/5): Spectacular location - The location, the staff ,( who were simply wonderful) cleanliness Expensive , rooms quite small even when upgraded .
Object to paying £2 for biscuits in room . Found that quite insulting . Rooms were not cheap and complimentary biscuits should be a basic given . I could understand if they were homemade but they weren’t . Trivial maybe , but we felt that the £££ were at the forefront of the chain operation .
- Leo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (4/5): For the price the hotel isn’t very impressive. Nice location but needs a renovation and staff aren’t particularly helpfu - The location is good No spa facilities and tired property in need of an update. Also staff poor and not very helpful
- Anne (9/5): Calmer at Karma - Beautifully position, direct access to beach.
Caters well for gluten and dairy free diets.
Very helpful and friendly staff.
Generous and clean accommodation. The cost!
- Andrew (10/5): This was a trip for my wife’s birthday, with a spa treatment, had a fantastic time - How welcome you were made to feel, the staff were wonderful, such a relaxing atmosphere A fan in the room would have been nice, even with windows open, it was so warm
- Lesley (10/5): Amazing place, in a beautiful location, lovely staff, and fantastic food. - Beautiful location, on the waters edge at St Martins Sea views
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -
- Szaphiel (10/5): Excellent accommodation on a beautiful St Martins. - Stunning location on St Martins, right onto the beach. The hotel is very relaxed and comfortable. We enjoyed an Ocean view bedroom. The food and service were excellent. We will definitely return. Nothing to dislike
- Charis (8/5): A friendly and comfortable experience within a stunning location. - The location is excellent providing a wonderfully natural and unspoilt location in the Scilly Isles. The hotel staff were very friendly and obliging. Our room looked out over the sea and provided a beautiful view from St Martins. Although the food was well prepared and kindly served, we felt it was very pricey and at times mean in relation to portion size. Breakfast is excellent and generous but the choices available for lunch and evening meal are in our view, very expensive and short on vegetables. This may be because the Scilly Isles are a long way from the mainland and there are supply issues, but even Sunday lunch was very short of the humble carrot and roast potato. Vegetables are healthy and add colour and joy to a meal. They are really important when away from home; endless high fat options may taste lovely but over a few days can become quite unpleasant. We would have liked to see a simpler lunch menu with good bread, a healthy soup or salad option. (The Ceasar salad on offer was poor and terribly overpriced.)
- Anita (10/5): Exceptional - The venue, the room and hotel facilities were all outstanding.
The staff went out of their way to help and the food was delicious. Nothing
- Rodney (10/5): - Great location and friendly staff
- Louise (9/5): The friendly and helpful staff really make this place - We really enjoyed our stay at the Karma St Martins. The location is lovely right beside the beach and next to one of the quays on the island. The staff were so friendly and helpful, which really made the stay. The hotel organised boat trips to the other off islands, which was really useful. The food was excellent as well. Our room was a little noisy because we were in a family room with an adjoining door. The decor was a little dated, but otherwise, we found the room to be comfortable and very clean.
- Toby (7/5): Good -
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Ronan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Louise (10/5): Exceeding expectations all staff made our Mum’s 90th an amazing experience - Beautiful location
- Jonathan (7/5): Great food, great people , beautiful island - Staff excellent, helpful and friendly. Food excellent . We only had a one night stay and it was a wet and windy day , meaning half of it was spent indoors. Our room was quite small and therefore we opted to use the first floor lounge , which has a wonderful view but an extremely utilitarian feel to it , so much more could be done with the space !
- Catherine (6/5): Disappointing lack of service and sterile atmosphere - Room was comfortable and pleasant We arrived as arranged at 1.30, cold and soaked through having transferred from St Mary’s on an open boat in the rain, but unlike other hotels in IOS they had not prepared the room and left us with just a cup of tea for an hour whilst they did the cleaning - very unwelcoming. When we were finally shown to the room we asked for an iron, but it was never brought up
Dining room lacked atmosphere
- Frans (10/5): Great time, nice people, good travel coordination - Beautiful building, rooms, restaurant. Staff was very helpful especially with inter-island boat transfers. A bit expensive
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was all very good although Wi-Fi was weak and ocean was very cold!!
- Maria (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay at the Karma hotel St Martins. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
Thank you for a lovely stay
- Audra (9/5): Superb - Amazing Hotel, the staff are really helpful, first rate service all round.
The food is exceptional.
- Claudia (7/5): Remote, relaxing, stunning scenery. - The location was beautiful.
The staff were very friendly and attentive. The water in the shower wasn’t hot enough and there were no extras provided such as conditioner, vanity products etc.
- Rosaleen (8/5): Definitely worth staying there - the location is stunning. so tranquil.
The staff were wonderful too Rooms are a little tired at the cost
- Robert (10/5): It felt like we were in the Caribbean at times! Hoghly recommended! - The location was great and the staff were absolutely outstanding! the rooms are a little dated and no aircon.
- Philip (4/5): - Beautiful location, friendly staff, just slightly let down by the constant undercurrent of ‘join the Karma club’ aka timeshare. Posters, leaflets, letters in the room and that was after I had explicitly asked not to be sold to as I was paying to have a holiday.
- Susan (6/5): Pleasant - wonderful position, great view from room poor value - charging for biscuits at £400 per night is rude!
- Petra (10/5): Exceptional - Staff was very friendly, welcoming and always present and very helpful whenever assistance was needed or questions occurred. At my arrival I got an upgrade which made my Karma-experience even more unforgettable. I would definitely come again.
- Simon James (10/5): Birthday family holiday - Excellent, lovely food, very comfortable, staff very helpful and nothing too much trouble
- James (7/5): Unique location - i.e. paradise. Charming staff. But dated and absurdly overpriced. - My word. Literally unique position on a spectacular paradise isle. Sweet, helpful staff. The hotel was originally something else. Bought by Karma chain - but facilities have not been updated or redecorated in some while. Rooms are charming but not 5-star and most certainly not value for money - ludicrously overpriced. Charming yet unspectacular dining room.
- Sian (8/5): Had a very comfortable night. Very quiet. Wonderful views from room. - Staff very helpful. Room upgrade amazing. Breakfast excellent. Nothing
