Guest Reviews
- Chandra (3/5): This hotel needs a total renovation - Friendly staff. Poor facility that needs a thorough upgrade. Not worth the price. Inconvenient location
- Eva (9/5): Very nice to start discovering Tana Toraja. - Very quiet and spacious. Super nice staff. And a big swimming pool. They also connected us to a very good guide that organised to go to the funeral ceremonies, but also a walk in the rice fields, a visite to a market, a visite to the buffalo market, a visite to the graves,… A bit outdated, but that’s part of the charm.
- Jessica (9/5): -
- Alif (8/5): Very good -
- jasonmataram (8/5): Hard working staff - The Sahid is an expansive hotel with rooms built in the Torajan traditional house style. The minimal staff work hard to keep the place running well. Our room was comfortable and clean. Hot water was powerful. Linen clean and unstained. Food was, however, slow. Its a very peaceful spot. Worth staying here with your family.
Apparently Torajan funeral "season" is the Indonesian school holiday period: June till August. Keep that in mind if planning a trip.
- Seaside27120769346 (8/5): The pool is my fav. - Though it is little bit far to Rantepao but it is still a nice place to stay , specially if your main agenda in Makale area. Its an old hotel but I love the ambiance. It is well maintained. The huge pool is nice and also clean. My friends and I enjoyed our quality time at pool so much.
- lionys (4/5): Not reccomended hotel - The good thing of this hotel is only a very friendly staff.
The location is far from city or tourist attraction.
Very old room, poor lighting, dusty cupboard, dirty towel and bathroom shower was not work properly.
- StefanusN (6/5): Family Friendly - We started our family trip in Toraja from this hotel. The premises flaunt the Torajan culture, seen in the design of each pavilions that resembles a Tongkonan, Toraja traditional house.
The hotel area is surrounded by lush green paddy fields.
If you are in for star gazing, the top of the hill where the hotel is situated, its a wonderful spot to look up to the heaven.
- alex3252 (4/5): In need of major renovations and far from Rantepao. - The design of the hotel and the gardens are beautiful but the rooms haven't been updated since the early 90s. The carpets are stained and grimy and the room smells of mildew. There's no real common area either. We ate dinner at a banquet table, which was very odd. The staff were very friendly though. They helped arrange transport to Rantepao (expensive though) and agreed to refund our money for two nights when we moved to a cheaper and nicer homestay in Rantepao.
- LilyTJ25 (6/5): Not as Luxury as Its Name, Sahid - Most of the amenities in the hotel are outdated. However, everything worked fine. The hotel room was quite spacious and the location of the hotel is quite far from main tourist destinations. The wifi is free but the quality was not good. To get around, we rented a motorcycle from the security guide who was kind enough to lend his bike for the day for IDR75000.
- Albert (2/5): Disgusting smell of the rooms, cockroaches inside! - I have changed 6 rooms and all smell very disgusting. I tried to sleep but I vomited because of the disgusting smell inside the room.
At the end I had to sleep on the balcony!
- katzeyai (8/5): A very recommend hotel to stay - Sahid Hotel is a recommended hotel to stay if you visit Toraja. The location is not at the centre of the city, so for you who wish to have a calm and peaceful environment then this will be the best choice.
The room is clean and large, quite comfortable, the view from the room is also nice. The toilet is also clean basically nothing to complain about this hotel.
But i felt a little bit annoyed during my stay because there was a party at Saturday night at the hotel, they were partying and singing out loud until late at midnight which disturbed the guests who wanted to take a good rest and sleep. And the next morning around 7 AM, they were checking the sound of the speakers, making noises, which again to me it was very annoying and disturbing.
We had complained to the receptionist about this concern, but the hotel seemed didn't do anything about it.
Hope that next time the hotel would set the time when the party may start and shall end in order not to disturb other guests.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good hotel but out of town - Had a good stay staff were very nice and helpful, but a good 15 minute taxi ride out from the nearest town
- Craig (10/5): Beautiful Romantic Getaway - Had a wonderful time with an almost empty hotel, very accomodating staff and delivery of food and beverages right to our door. A great ambiance for anyone looking for a get away in the hills of Toraja
- Sieglind71 (8/5): Silent friendly hotel - Away from the main tourist centers in the toraja area this hotel gives you the opportunity to stay in a affordable, silent, green surrounding with access via lokal guides to all places of interest in Tana Toraja. Especially the less visited in south toraja are very impressing ,some of them are unique. The Busses from and to Makassar stop just in front of the hotel if you tell the driver.
- 309abduls (6/5): out of town but its a nice place with lovely garden - booked via booking.com didnt realise that so far out of rantepao but everything is ok staffs are wonderful room are large and clean breakfast was fine lovely tall pine, and palm tree around the garden, hotels is showing its age but still, lovely stay.
hired car from makassar for 2 days, wished can stay longer.
- Abdul (8/5): an old hotel that need a face lift - stayed there with the driver my room was upstairs overlooking the garden its comfortable overall staffs was very good and helpful we had problem with shower and was fixed when we return after a day out.
the hotel was far out of rantepao so would be nice if hotel had some arrangement with transport company [bus service from makassar] so visitor could be dropp off and picked up out side the hotel.
- Armandas (6/5): Outdated but rewarding - The hotel is really tired and outdated. However, it is situated in a very remote, calm, relaxing and beautiful place far from the noise of Rantepao. Have in mind that the hotel is in the middle of nowhere - 31km from Rantepao, which means that that you are dependent on the hotel restaurant, which we didn't find very good (no big choise and the food is not very good). Ask for a room on the second floor as they are much better, cosier and have nice balconies with a view. The hotel helps arrange the tours without any problem.
- 672gitak (6/5): Friendly Staff, Poor Location - We learned that there were no modern or new hotels in Toraja. We chose this hotel because of the lower price than other big hotels in Toraja. The hotel looked very old, also our room furniture and carpet were old. But the room was very large and quite clean.
One weird situation was when the lights went off for a few seconds at the hotel (in the night). After that the electricity went on by the generator for some minutes.
The staff were very friendly, they greeted everybody (local or international tourists). The location was quite far from the tourist attractions (Lemo, Ke'te Kesu, Londa, etc). To get there from the hotel, you must drive for 30-45 mins through the beautiful scenery of Toraja (which I didn't mind). But overall it was a pleasant stay.
- markvhki (8/5): Superb staff and convenient for Tana Toraja tours - Sahid Toraja is a lovely property in Makale, approx an hour from main Tana Toraja sites. Although needing a bit of renovation, whole setting is still striking beautiful - Buildings are traditional Toraja style in a very beautiful, hilly garden and main building has attached restaurant and pool area. Rooms are very spacious with extremely comfortable beds, sleep quality is very good!
However staff and service are the reasons, why Sahid Toraja is an excellent choice when staying in Toraja area. The whole staff is willing to go through as many extra miles as needed to ensure that their guests have successful vacation - e.g. I had a very bad stomach flu and we asked if we could get late checkout and stay longer, since our bus to Makassar was bound to leave 10 pm, and they did not even charge any extra for the room! This is definitely something unforgettable! Also restaurant staff is adorable and efficient!
If / when you are seeking sightseeing trip to main Toraja graves & funerals, Sahid Toraja is a perfect place! We booked absolutely perfect guide called Joseph through Sahid Toraja and could not have been any happier to the services and knowledge of Joseph - Three days itinerary incl. one day for funerals was spot on with lots of variation and things to see.
All in all, Sahid Toraja made our Tana Toraja trip perfect and I can definitely recommend to anyone!
- seastream2015 (10/5): Lovely staff and polite service! - We stayed here for four nights and I couldn't have been more satisfied with the service. First of all the hotel is very big - over 50 rooms, big swimming pool and rather big pool for kids aswell.
The staff is all about great customerservice - absolutely nothing is too much trouble for them and what I really appreciated was their proactivity (for example when we were about to leave with a bus (great&easy&cheap way to get to Tana Toraja - we used Kharisma and were very satisfied) general manager organised a company car to take us and our baggage and a driver to keep us company until the bus came - he waited with us one hour and helped with the bags and did I mention this was just one bit of the LONG extra mile they went for us without any extra charge).
We really liked the breakfast (eggs like you prefer, fresh juice, whole pan of coffee and tea, toast, jam&butter, cheese (which I personally loved as we've been traveling in Asia for four months and I've truly missed it), fresh fruit etc.). They even served us breakfast in the room when my husband got ill and all the other dishes can be ordered through roomservice aswell.
Rooms are big, a bit dated but well lit with good dressing area with mirrors and cabinets. Bed was comfortable and toilet had a nice bathtub - also good selection of toiletries available.
The hotel area has beautiful Torajan buildings, flower and plants - the area felt safe. Hotel also organised us a wonderful guide called Joseph for three days who speaks very good english, knows everything about the culture and habits as he has lived in Toraja all of his life and has a polite and peaceful approach - highly recommended :)!
- 22amanw (10/5): Good stay at Hotel Sahid - This hotel has great scenery and nice views. Rooms were clean and quiet with ac and tea/coffee making facilities. The food was good and staff very helpful. The hotel is a little far from town, but overall good value for money.
- dinahmarcellam (8/5): Great Hotel! - Great hotel! The rooms were very spacy and we managed to easlity fit in four people, we got complementary tea coffee and water. There was hot water and wifi was avaliable in the restaurant. The food was geat, the people were nice. All in all a great hotel!
- 495chinel (8/5): Nice Place - It was really lovely over there and the food was good.It was easy to go to other places from there and the staff was really helpful. Eventhough I'm allergic to eggs they always found ways to accomodate.
- Rocky_1704 (8/5): Comfort - I stayed in this hotel with my class on a camp trip to Sulawesi. And after being on a bus with one another for 7 hours, being at this hotel made us all feel better. They supplied us with bathrooms, beds and food. The staff were all incredibly nice and friendly. The hotel itself looks over beautiful scenery. It is very serene.
Overall I enjoyed my stay a lot.
- Richspace (8/5): Great place to explore Toraja from. - Good hotel in a country location. Very friendly & helpful staff. The hotel is out of the ordinary. Andry the manager is a star & really made our holiday. You will need transport but we very much enjoyed our stay here. Would definitely go back. Good value for money too.
- drallah (6/5): Fine Hotel In The Middle Of Nowhere - Was looking for a star Hotel at Tana Toraja & a good deal on the web got me here. This hotel is a good 8 hour drive from the nearest airport:) Comfortable rooms but you need to watch out for forest insects and roaches that have a habit of surprising you here. The area is famous for Death-tourism & architecture of the Tana Toraja house. this Hotel is an epitome of the Torajan architecture. Passable bed and bathroom & average F & B service. This Hotel has a lovely swimming pool and has no air-conditioning. Even in Indonesian summers, the night temperature is 17 degrees celcius. Was quite an experience. Later saw the other hotels in the area from outside & thought The Shahid Toraja was better! The area is really under-developed. This would rate as a 3-star clean Hotel in my eyes.
- CPRatna (6/5): A beautiful hotel needs more maintainance - This hotel was the first stop of Makassar-Toraja bus. This is because it's located about 45 min from Toraja city centre. An unique hotel with low storey buildings decorated with traditional Torajan's Tongkonan house roof. The swimming pool was situated in the middle of lush greenery and there were some miniature of traditional Tongkonan houses beside it, very beautiful indeed.
A perfect hotel to recuperate after spending the day sightseeing for its tranquility. The room was spacious with balcony. Greenery around the hotel provided fresh air that no air conditioner could not. You could rent a car with a driver to take you to Rantepao or other tourist attractions in Toraja. Most of the staff spoke Indonesian, only the manager spoke English.
I stayed in the twin bedded room on ground level #301 for 2 nights. The room could use some airing for it smelled rather musty and looked rather dusty. The double bedded room opposite #302 (I could have mixed up the room numbers!), on the contrary, was well aired. I supposed not many guests requesting twin bedded room.
Get your supply of bottled drinking water when you make your trip down to Rantepao. You might want to use bottled drinking water for brushing teeth because the water in the hotel was rather yellowish. I was informed by the hotel manager that it was the quality of water in the area. Good thing I always bring my anti bacterial shower items whenever I travel.
Breakfast at the hotel was very simple, either fried noodle or fried rice. Room service menu was limited too. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful.
If it wasn't for the yellowish water, I would've recommended this hotel to anyone visiting Toraja.
- PrincessAnneliese (6/5): The first decent hotel in the valley - After about 7 hours driving from Ujung Pandang, Pare pare then Enrekang, we are so tired and very happy to reach this cool place with the interior toraja house. The staff are very efficient, receptionist, reservation, housekeeping, waitress for only 2 - 5 persons. The room spacious with big bed. The place very quiet not so many tourist really want to drive long way. The toraja coffee is so good.. the next day we went to Rantepao and bought 1 kg Toraja coffee. They have outdoor swimming pool, but it is too cold...to swim. The hotel is nice and clean.
