- Abigail (8/5): Would stay again - It was a great stay. We travel with an infant and the set up and microwave worked great for us. My only feedback is that it smelled so strong of cleaner that it made all our clothes smell like it.

- Denice (6/5): - Room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. Only negatives were a noisy window style a/c which we needed to run a lot because it was stuffy in the room. And, the only green space was full of dog poop from the managers dogs. I always pick up my dog’s poop and was disappointed that I couldn’t walk through the grass or sit outside in the grassy area because of dog poop.

- Douglas (6/5): - The unit next door had a dog with white hair. The hair was everywhere outside. We tried using the security door chain. The door trim fell off and the screws were to short to provide security.
- Ronda (10/5): Great place affordable - Loved that I could park in front of my door. Customer service A+ Older motel but renovated, clean and comfortable. Self check-in could not have been easier. I had a question about the Wi-Fi and sent a text message and heard back in less than a minute. Loved this place.
- sal (2/5): - I haven’t seen her room this dirty and disgusting for over 40 years. This room shocked me. The mirrors , don’t get me started about the bathroom because that was obscene. If I told you what was in the bathroom on the walls they would probably take this post down avoid this place at all cost

- Trish (6/5): At least it was cheep - Digital check in was easy enough. First glance the room appeared clean. The TV was mounted it a spot hard to see from the bed and couch. When we went to shower we found dirty wash clothes in the shower curtain. A quick 20 minute walk to get dinner downtown. Came back and wanted to turn the TV on the drown out highway noise, the TV and cable box were both unplugged and took nearly 20 minutes to reconnect. Our only interaction with staff was to get ice. She seemed very put out to let me into the room with the ice machine (no scoop, just a disposable plastic cup). We were only in town two nights for an event. Had it been any longer we would have looked for someplace cleaner.
- Barbara (6/5): Will choose another place. - The LVP floors were dirty when I checked in. The touchpad lock battery was nearly dead, making entry a multiple-effort exercise and required assistance by text to the get it unlocked the second night of my stay. I would have liked an interior deadbolt over the light-weight door chain for personal security. One of my traveling companions found evidence of drug use outside and inside of his room. On the bright side, the lady doing laundry was very congenial.

- Thomas (4/5): - Check in was fairly easy. Parking was good. The room is remodeled and comfortable. The cleanliness of the room was horrible. Seemed like they only changed / made the bed from the previous tenent. Old wash rags in the shower, dirty floors, dirty everything. Had to wipe the whole room just to feel comfortable. Could have been a good stay if it was clean.
- Scott (6/5): - The rooms had been updated, but otherwise this was a weak example of the trend to contactless lodging. Basic information about the room and facilities could only be accessed after check-in through a password secured website. The television was inoperable. (A lengthy explanation in the restricted access FAQ implied that it was my fault that the television wouldn't function, but actually they just didn't provide the remote and the the TV itself had no manual controls.) Any requests for assistance were channeled to an AI bot. I don't mind, and in some cases have actually enjoyed, the contactless hotel experience. But in this case it was very poorly executed.

I really loved everything with respect to the hotel. I am glad that you take care of the guests so well. Thank you for doing a terrific job. You have gone above and beyond for meeting customer service and price point wise. A hidden gem in Durango!!!
- Denise (6/5): Not so clean and no amenities. - Room was being cleaned when we arrived, it was after 3 p.m. check in time. There were only towels for three people, or room was booked for five people. The spare bed for the fifth person was not provided with linens, there were no extra pillows or blankets for the regular beds either. Kitchen was in need of a good cleaning, behind the trash can, under the microwave, ceiling above the fridge was filthy. I spilled some water on the kitchen floor, I used the provided kitchen towel, the floor was so dirty it covered the towel. I took pictures of the filth and attached them below. There was an empty water bottle and some trash left from before our visit under the couch. We arrived Friday, we had hot water on Saturday morning, when we returned to our room on Saturday night there was no hot water, there was still no hot water on Sunday morning when we departed.
- Cristiano (2/5): Terrible - Unfortunately, we were unable to have the pleasant night we had been hoping for! 1- When we arrived, the unit was freezing! I am in favor of energy conservation and sustainability, but everything has a limit! Leaving the unit like that was disrespectful. 2-) Speaking of disrespect, there are no blankets at this time of year and at this temperature. Honestly... it makes your energy consumption soar, since the air conditioning never stopped working. 3- There was no shampoo, soap or conditioner available as advertised and expected! 4- While we were taking a shower, drops of yellow water were dripping from the ceiling, where the exhaust fan is, very embarrassing. 5- The floor of the unit was very dirty, it was unpleasant but bearable, but the cold continues to be the main problem. 6- The TV does not work, much less turn on, they also lied in the advertisements. 7- For those who have a checkout at 11 am, sending a message at 5:30 is very invasive and unnecessary!

- Stacey (2/5): Totally Hands Off - We called hotel directly because we have stayed there multiple times. This time we were told that we had to book online. So we did thru hotels.com on my existing business account. We arrived at the hotel to a window covered with a huge printed sign saying scan here to make a reservation or check the text message you received in order to get your room number and door code. I didn't receive a text, only confirmation from Hotels.com. I pushed the doorbell and no one answered. I called the number and got recording. He called back saying the text was sent to another number listed on my account. So he sent it to the phone i had. Then I had to fill out everything on my phone, standing in the cold and wind, then had to upload a pic of my driver license. Because I booked 2 rooms, I had to do that process twice. I am old school. I hate apps...do not like having anything such as my driver license or address on my phone. There is something to be said for personal service. Apparently the owner needs passive income because this certainly didn't have any personal service. There was even a cabinet outside next to the office window with extra self serve supplies. Will not stay here again.

- April (8/5): - We enjoyed having the kitchenette in the room and the ease of walking to Downtown Durango from the property. The bed was very comfortable, and the cleaning staff were friendly. It's a little loud being located right on a busy road, but the road was not busy at night.
- Jeff (4/5): - First of all, we got there late after being on the road all day and it took us about 30 minutes to be able to get into the room as instructions were not clear and the emergency line did not answer. We had to get our own supplies out of the closet outside. Inside, the renovated part was nice but the pullout couch mattress was nothing but springs. When we pulled out said mattress, there was garbage on it. The floor was dirty, our feet were black after walking on it. Dust probably blew in from under the front door, which had a huge gap wide open to the outside. We had to shove a towel under to keep the draft from coming in. There was no table to eat dinner on and no lamps on any of the night stands. No towel racks or toilet paper holder in the bathroom where needed. Body wash was out in the shower container. The cupboards were pretty bare in the kitchen, and we had to go get our own supplies, including utensils and paper towels. Also, the oven dial would not turn off and stayed on most the day. Super frustrating and if I can get hold of the owner I will definitely be asking for a refund
- Erica (2/5): - We did not stay. Our room was around the back; we walked through an alley with discarded tires through weeds, trash, and rocks, not even a sidewalk to reach our room. It smelled heavily of chemicals. Being migraine prone, we couldn't be in the room longer than 10 minutes. Expedia gave no indication we'd be on the second floor. All the pictures make it look as if it's on a large property. It's an old motel, right off the highway. The grass area had dog poop all over. The check-in was really easy. Our questions were answered quickly through text. But I would spring for a little extra and stay at a more comfortable place next time.

- Tara (8/5): Clean, good instructions for DIY check in - I’d probably stay at the Wapiti again because it is clean, well maintained and more affordable than other places in Durango. The online instructions for checking in were pretty easy to follow. Beds, linens and pillows were very comfortable, and fridge, coffee machine and microwave were good to have. Honestly, the only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the smell of cleaning products, which we tackled with open windows and which put this in the four star and not five star category.

The mattress and pillows were very comfortable. The blackout blinds were a huge plus! Also, the flooring wasn't carpet, can't stand carpet anymore. I would stay here again!

- Leslie (4/5): - My biggest complaint is that I got an auto-generated text message that WOKE ME FROM A SOUND SLEEP AT 5:30 a.m. If this is what it means to have a no-staff property, then I'll find other accommodations. Annoying and confusing complaints were: No towel bars in the shower area or near the sink. No closet, no rod, no way to hang up anything. No surface to place luggage or lay out clothes that didn't block the tv receiver. Even the ironing board was broken and would not stand up. Water pressure was good, lovely new towels and comfy bed, but none of that mattered to me when I got such a rude awakening in the morning.

Self check in, but our room wasn’t ready, staff apologized, understaffed, quick response via text with management. Overall would recommend!

The Wapiti is now a fully self serve place and everything went so smooth with getting room number and access. Overall 5 stars, great job!!!

- Qyrese (6/5): - Came to this hotel for the night and the cleanliness of the hotel was not up to par and expensive for what we paid and got bare minimum for cleanliness. For being a self service hotel and not cleaning the rooms properly is appalling. First our room floor was dirty you could not walk barefoot without getting dirt on your socks. Secondly in the bathroom we had found stained underwear and a tie dye shirt that were not ours. I had to use a towel to move them out of the bathroom. So I can tell the room was not throughly clean. (Picture below) Overall not a bad hotel was quiet and had no other issues check in was smooth snd easy.

- James (10/5): - Wapiti Lodge is a great deal! Stayed here overnight and was convenient to everything. Definitely would book again!
- Gary (6/5): - Room appeared to have been recently upgraded, was clean,etc. The wall mounted a/c unit was mounted too high to reach the controls. Need a ladder or a stool to operate. TV didnt work but was tild they where waiting for new equipment to be serviced.
- Kevin (8/5): - The price was reasonable. The only window in the room faces the parking lot and walkway so there is not much privace with the shade up. Overall, a decent stay.
- Susan (6/5): - Just needed a place to sleep and it was ok for that. Although basically clean, this motel needs some serious updating. It was overpriced. (Many Durango properties were overpriced during eclipse weekend).

- Bernard (2/5): - This has to be the worst hotel I have stayed in in 40 years and that's saying a lot. The front door doesn't have a deadbolt. Air is pouring from around the door all night. The bathroom sink doesn't have hot water. You listen to heavy road noise until 11:00 p.m. at night. The walls are as dirt as you can imagine. The baseboards are only partly there. Owner you have to do better
- Robert (10/5): Clean Overall and Comfortable Basic Accommodations - Clean, comfortable and basic. No frills. Not a lot of space to park toiletries. Tub looked a bit grubby with cracks and stains.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Terrible service - Front Desk was very abrasive. Hard to communicate with. We feel like we were overcharged with the condition and comfort of the rooms. Charged us for the full stay even though we left early.
- APOLLO (10/5): - This was the best check in experience i have had in years!! The 2 gentlemen at front counter were very fast and very respectful, they even showed me to my room amd made sure i was comfortable with the accommodations.. wich i can say are absolutely beautiful freshly remodeled!! 💯 stay here any time i am in durango.. local owner and operator
- Kyle (4/5): Would not stay again - Booked a room with two queen and a bunk bed… got one with two beds and two couches. It worked but it wasn’t what we booked. Tub was filthy, kids wouldn’t get in it. Overall “unsafe” atmosphere and I think we all went to sleep with one eye open.

- Nancy (10/5): Girls getaway - DO not judge a book by its cover. This place is starting to shape up. The outside of the place is very deceiving. The have really put in a lot of work to this place and hopefully they continue. Looks rundown from the outside, but let me tell you the inside is completely remodeled. Very clean and renovated. No carpets, all new vinyl "wood" floors, new showers and very spacious. Especially the units in the back. Felt very safe and quiet. WOuld definitely stay there again.

- Robert (8/5): Clean & Comfortable. - Clean, comfortable and basic. Room looked to have been recently renovated. Might have been a work in progress. Walls were bare. Add hair dryer, iron and ironing board. No recycling provisions.
- Patricia (2/5): - We needed a last minute place to stay, paid for booking. Arrived & there was no one to let us in nor anyone answering the phone. I would like to demand a full refund. This terrible experience has made our family question ever booking thru Expedia again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Okay just to sleep - We chose to stay here because of the kitchen. The whole room smelled strong of curry, the stove was dirty the oven was filthy. There were no utensils, no dish soap and the dishwasher was inoperable. The refrigerator was missing a handle but otherwise worked fine. We ended up having to eat out more than we planned. The room was fine to just sleep that’s about it. No WI-FI password was provided, play ground area was full of overgrown vegetation. I also noted that there was a sign on smoking 20 feet away from the building per “Colorado Law” but no statute was cited. Dog waste was in the walk ways in the common areas. I did try to notify staff but despite the open sign on the door and being during business hours the door was locked.
- Shawn (2/5): - Dirty, run down, room in need of repair. Old Corona beer left in frig. TV did not work. Have stayed before about 5 years ago and understand it is an older, small motel but was cleaner and had character. Has gone down quite a bit since then. Will not return.
- Martha (2/5): Not a good place! - The room was old and in terrible disrepair. Light and electric plugs were not covered. There were not blow dryers in the rooms. We had to go outside to cool off several times.

- Verified traveler (4/5): - Run down motel with poorly patched holes in the walls. The sink was wobbly but at least that part we had a warning about that at check in. The bathroom door had a broken knob and looked like someone had tried the break it down. The bathtub did not have a handle for the hot water. Also lots of dust under the beds.
- Lana (4/5): - This was a bad experience. The room had just been remodeled so that part was clean/nice. BUT, the oven was disgusting, dishes in the cabinets were put away dirty. Third bed was listed as bunk beds and it was a pull out couch that was horridly uncomfortable. I always am upfront that there are 5 adults staying and there are never enough towels. I had to go down and get more towels and then there was no cover for the third bed. Had to go down and ask again. He was not nice/friendly about having to give me more. I went and bought paper towels and dish soap just so we could stay there. Overall a bad experience.

- edward (6/5): - The Wapiti Lodge was very old and in rather bad shape. Somehow they did a very good job of keeping the room clean. The adjacent highway noise could not be heard in the room. It was very inexpensive compared to everywhere else in the high season in Durango.
- Ivy (2/5): - I felt like the place was not accurately presented on their booking site. My room had holes in the wall, dirty large cracks in the tub, trash littered all around the hot tub, and smelled like smoke. Overpriced for what you get. I had a two night booking ended up not even staying the night.
- Deena (2/5): - Pros: hot water, beds were ok, lights worked; cons: extremely dirty everywhere (unrecognizable stains on ceiling and walls, cobwebs, smells, shower and tub had stains and glue or black tar in the tub), hair around toilet base, crud pretty much on all baseboards, no window screen but the frame was still there. TV remote only worked the box, not the TV, so manual on/off and volume. The smoke detector did not have batteries so there was none. The pictures shown on website must have been from when it was first opened and not much cleaning has been done since then. I cannot believe I had to pay $100 a night for this place.

- Jessica (2/5): - If I could rate in the negatives I would! The first room he tried to give us was like a up stairs apartment. It was dusty, nasty and smelt awful. I went and talked to the front and he was shocked and gave me another room. The 2nd room was better but awful too. There was blue tape on the bathroom door where someone had punched it. There was black tape holding up the wall unit. The beds were hard and it smelt old and musky. My kids refused to shower! My 2 year old bottoms of her feet were black after walking around. Please don’t stay there!! The doors look like someone had broken In before. Spend the extra money and stay somewhere else.

- Dell (2/5): - The property is filthy and stench in the rooms was horrid. The fixtures were ancient and dirty and the obvious recent attempts to cosmetically improve the room somehow made it even creepier. I left (fled) within minutes. Avoid at all costs!
