Guest Reviews
- Patience (2/5): - I didn’t stay at the hotel due to there not being any hot water, they were having it fixed the next day. It was no fault of the hotel. I canceled my stay with them upon check in
- Lori (6/5): - I got charged both through Expedia and at the Motel.
No breakfast or coffee as advertised, limited towels, no cups in room, .....girl at desk indifferent and difficult to deal with, she basically just blew us off.
- Natalie (4/5): Expect no frills. Barebones. - The bad: the hallway carpet stank. The elevator only went to the third floor (you had to take the elevator to three and then take the stairs to the 2nd floor). No continental breakfast. Barebones room; no coffee maker, or hair dryer. Shower water temperature was just warm. Tub shape was awkward - even for taking a shower.
The good- the room was clean, although there was a big beetle bug in the bathroom. For $90 with taxes- not worth it. Also, no coffee maker in the room.
- Fred (6/5): - No coffee in room or anywhere else no breakfast
- Lee (2/5): - They have bugs,no cups in the room, toilet kept running till I fixed and the manager was a real piece of work
- leon (10/5): - .
- John (6/5): - Room was generally clean, quiet, and comfortable. Location convenient. Appeared to be staffing issues and bathroom towels not so clean or stained. There was a bad smell when I arrived, I suspect due to water treatment facility nearby and wind direction, but seemed better later... Maybe due to wind direction change.
- Ann (4/5): - No hot water in my room and no coffee available at all.
- Raymond (6/5): - Yes
- Richard (6/5): - No breakfast
- Marlen (6/5): - The room was okay. There was no breakfast both days.
The best thing was, there is a dog park next door.
- Anita (8/5): - Manager was very friendly and as helpful as he could be. I was disappointed there was no kind of breakfast.
- Neil (8/5): - The property was understaffed so there was no morning breakfast or bar soaps for the bathroom. The staff that they had was courteous and hard-working.
- Hong (8/5): - The smoke detector was beeping throughout night probably due to low battery. I could not get to anyone till daytime and was told that nobody was available to fix it. I had to move to another room after I came back to the hotel late at night. Other than that it was fine.
- James (4/5): - Didn't like anything about property. Walked inside smelled like sewage. No housekeeping. So no new towels for in morning. Shower head was loose in shower. 2 wasps in the room. Looked more like an apartment complex than a hotel. Will NOT be back
- Ana Maria (2/5): - Super duty
- Miranda (2/5): - The staff was very friendly and welcoming, but our room was dirty and hot. There was food and dirt in the floor, lights stains from cups still sticky on tables and toothpaste in the sink from previous occupant. It looked like maybe work was being done because there were pieces of wall on the floor in the hallways and it also kinda seemed like it was going under. No breakfast or Coffee, and that would have been fine m, but it was advertised to have it. Like I said, the staff was very friendly but I would never recommend someone to stay there
- December (2/5): - Every time when I need help I don’t see none staff
- Rachel (8/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful. Facility very dated, curtains falling off windows and counters very stained. Lobby had weird smell. But beds comfortable.
- Tom (6/5): - Good location.
Needs maintenance and employees to help out inside and clean up the parking lot for a better appearance.
They shouldn't let pickup & trailers take up the parking meant for cars. They have a gravel spot meant for them already.
The entry doors need attention. That is the first impression that you get when walking in the place!
The manager looks like he is shot from running around doing things. They need help and look more professional. First impression can be a bad thing or a good thing.
Breakfast area should be open! At least someone to make coffee! I've never stayed anywhere that they didn't offer COFFEE!
- Anne (8/5): Pleasant stay - Check in was very easy and painless. Check in staff was friendly. Room was clean and my only issue was the water had to run quite some time before it got slightly warmer than tepid. I needed a HOT shower after 8 hours drive, ha! Our handicapped room on 2nd floor was quiet.
Watch the fridge as it freezes everything!
It is just a short drive to the Mammoth Dig and grocery stores and just a short walk to DQ if you like fast food.
- Steph (6/5): - The A/C unit was a little off. No kleenexs. Otherwise was convenient.
- Kaylie (6/5): - It was a cheap place to stay.
- Barbara (4/5): - Booked because breakfast was susposed to happen . Not even coffee was prepared desk staff should be able to make coffee . No food no coffee . Someone at the desk should be able to help with basic things . The pillows were very old and small and flat. covers didn’t even fit to pull up and cover up . Air was too noisy to use .the light were dim couldn’t even read a book.
- Charm (10/5): - They're making an effort to keep the property clean and fresh. Carpet is the last, I'm assuming?
- Lyndsay (2/5): Horrible - First thing we noticed was water all over the floor coming from ice machine, mop bucket sitting in middle of floor, pool was out commission, dryer on second floor didn’t work. Breakfast area was dirty, juice machine out of order. The room had snot on Night stand. The door lock in room was hardly hanging on. Ac in room was plugged into an extension cord and leaking water. I would have never wasted my money on this hotel had I known. Sad to see a hotel in that bad condition for the price of one night.
- Richard (8/5): - This place was ok, but short staffed, in fact i only saw one person. Our air conditioning didn’t work, we got our room down to 88 degrees. Being pet friendly people were walking their dog late at night, barking in the hallway at 3am is not a good thing.
- Daniel (10/5): - Great Stay!
- Lisa T (10/5): - Happy with the room and amenities
- Kenneth (6/5): - Very uncomfortable beds on metal frames that squeaked whenever anyone moved. Made for a restless night.
Staff was very friendly and check-in was quick.
Town has extremely limited dining options after 7:30 which hampered our enjoyment. There's a Dairy Queen and Subway open after dark, plus a couple bars.
Not a city we'd stay in more than a night, and would probably get a different hotel with quality beds.
- Annette (6/5): - It a great place to stay and shower. There are few that need touch up. Window lock is broken, hole in wall that had not cover up. No hair dryer and iron/iron board. Breakfast is limited. It would be nice if they had like fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs, miscellaneous.
- Vickie (4/5): No Mas - Service was inadequate no towels had to request.
- Kristine (10/5): - Everything was great. Love that they are pet friendly. Great staff. Room was clean. Pool was fun. Had a wo derful stay.
- Tom (2/5): - nothing to like. staff was rude. Need training.
- Logan (2/5): - It’s unfortunate that I have to rate this hotel so low. The location is nearly perfect and the staff were nice and helpful (when they were around).
I had to switch rooms on my second night because there were way too many issues. The AC decided to stop working my second night (it was 95). My second bed would loudly squeak at any movement. The fridge would have to be set to max on ‘cool’ just to work and it would hum very loudly. The toilet wouldn’t flush correctly. Way too many issues to have for a couple nights.
The staff were very accommodating and gave me and my partner a second room with a working AC. That worked fine until everything else didn’t. The toilet didn’t work properly *again*, the fridge would leak water, and it seems some plumbing issue caused black (hair?) soot to come into our sink in the morning.
The breakfast they advertised is nothing more than bagels, cereal, and English muffins…that’s it. The juice machine would never be filled and water would come out. The coffee had nothing to add but sugar and half and half. They had a waffle machine that was taken apart. I guess some food is better than nothing, but *everybody* was more than disappointed. Thankfully the staff member on check in told me how little they had so I could get breakfast elsewhere.
The vending machine was out of order. Ice machine you’re told to ‘not fill coolers.’ The pool would overflow and be too small. Just a terrible experience.
- Christopher (8/5): - The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was lacking. No OJ or apple juice, no yogurt.
- Ramiro (10/5): - Friendly and quick staff. Easy to get in and out.
- Shannon (4/5): - I am usually not one to complain, but I must. My daughter and I stayed at the Econo Lodge in Hot Springs on our way home from Wyoming to Minnesota. The room was filthy. The base of the toilet was covered with urine, hair and pubes. The deadbolt on the door didn't work and we had to push the door very hard to even get it to lock. One of the towels was stained with yellow and it looked like there was urine on the wall. I doubt I will ever stay at another Econo Lodge.
- Linda (10/5): Great - Close to attractions I wanted to visit. Clean room. Great for the price.
- Josh (6/5): - Staff was very friendly and helpful. Pool is actually smaller than it seems in pictures, you can't swim in it. Breakfast was pretty sad, just cold cereal, plain bagels, and oatmeal packets. No juice. No fruit. No muffins. Looks like they had a waffle maker and juice machine, but they were broken. Someone left the side door open and the entry way was filled with hundreds if not thousands of dead moths in the morning. Our room only had a portable AC unit, and it was 90+ degrees in Hot Springs when we were there. Room temp never got below 79. Quite toasty.
- Chad (6/5): - Property needs some maintenance (ice machine, guest laundry, etc). There was a shortage of towels which is not appropriate at all. Jake the front desk guy was fantastic. Great attitude and guest service too
- Mary (6/5): - 3 day stay for three people, only received two towel set up each day and had to ask; not enough staff but the two we did meet (check-in & maid were very nice); quiet, convenient location, our room was fairly clean except for a DQ shake left behind TV; stayed there couple years ago & was under renovation then and still but pricing is reasonable.
- Christine (10/5): - Everything close & huge & powerful shower!!!!
- Cindi Lee (4/5): - Room was not very clean. Tons of spackle everywhere. Bed was very old and very creak. Hallways smelled like diapers. Staff was friendly but not there at check in or check out maybe not enough staff. The fan in the bathroom sounded like a roaring jet taking off and gave us a headache.
- Amy (10/5): - Staff was very friendly.
The hotel is run down. The room was clean & bed & bedding was nice
- Renata (4/5): - We had an awful stay at the hotel. The bathroom was dirty, hair in the bathtub. Fridge was smelly. The latch on the door was broken so we couldn’t lock ourselves inside. Would definitely stay away!
- Ashley (6/5): - The breakfast was not very good. They didn't have a lot of choices to pick from and the juice machine was broken for most of our stay.
- Lisa (6/5): - Not in a great part town, was concerned about leaving anything in the car. Bare basics here, no hairdryer, tiny sparse towels. Breakfast was the worst I have seen at a hotel buffet ever. Lots of kids running up and down hallways for several hours in the evening.
- Shannon (10/5): - Great stay!
- Gail (10/5): - Reasonable price
- Samantha (8/5): - Close to River Walk path through town.
- shirshendu (10/5): - Na
- Scenic738816 (6/5): Lacking - It was a place to sleep. Beds were comfy. Only one working light in the room. No coffee maker, no glasses for water. No breakfast. X̌xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx̌xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
- CHAD (2/5): I would not recommend every staying here - We booked this motel last minute as the reviews I had read weren't terrible and price fit out budget. When we entered building it had strong smell of pot. Our room wasn't dirty and I was ok with bed. The fan in bathroom was very noisy as it came on with light so couldn't turn it off. Our biggest disappointment was we had no hot water in room for entire stay. The receptionist blamed problems on owner as the pool had some water but untreated and breakfast area closed off. The motel had no one on staff to clean rooms as we didn't care as had go to Lobby to get clean towels. I just as well have found campground or slept in car.
- Philip (4/5): - I don't have high standards when it comes to hotel rooms, but they failed to meet my low standards on the first room. There was a layer of slime in the bathtub, one of the towels was filthy dirty, the sheets were stained and looked terrible. There was also a lingering scent of stale cigarette smoke in the first room.
I have only requested a new room at a motel/hotel once before, and that was at a casino and the room was full of cigarette smoke.
Also the area with the stairs had a weird smell to it and had obviously not been vacuumed for weeks, if not months.
The one shining star was the staff, who checked the second room and got us into the second room in 5 minutes.
- Craig (4/5): - Sheets dirty; wasp in room; no toilet paper; rock hard bed; pillows were in bad shape; limited breakfast!
- James (10/5): - The elevator needs serious work
- Richard (6/5): - Appears a lack of staff. There was some trash behind the refrig. The bath water did not get very hot in the morning.
- Nancy (6/5): - Pool was not open, they are waiting to get it cleaned???
- Günter (2/5): - Never again…
- Charleton (8/5): - The hotel needs to update. Was clean.
- 622racheller (2/5): Skip it at all cost! Filthy! - The worst experience ever! Do not stay here!
After being on the road all day we were both very tired, the horrible experience started! The room next to us sounded like they were running a daycare. Kids screaming at the top of their lungs, hitting the walls, absolutely no parental guidance. I understand “it’s a hotel and things happen”, I assumed the kids would quiet down after 11:00PM, NOPE! Still making the worse noise ever! Screaming! The adult that was watching (if you want to call it that), would put her trash outside the door. People are definitely living here. Broken down vehicles in parking lot. Elevator needs serious work, you feel like it’s either going to start falling or just stop. This place smells like fast food and dirty people! Enough to make you throw up. The rooms were filthy! We left as soon as we could get a couple hours of sleep and get out of there.
- Denise (2/5): - No ac in 90 degrees. No one to tell this too. 4 busts on our floor where we seemed to be the only people that were visiting. The rest were living there on government check( welfare?) The last straw was Saturday night when I was sickened by a weird smell coming in the room(cough/nausea) went down to front desk and told the guy I want a complete refund- no ac and a drug making bust on my floor. The place was full of firemen and.police . He said he was having to get everyone to leave and he lost his room there(condemned) I have cancer and no sleep plus me having to drive in the middle of the night was unsafe but due to the Labor Day weekend nothing had a vacancy. Being a woman it wasn’t safe for me to sleep in my vehicle either. I have never had such a horrible thing as this staying at this place. As I said here and I told the guy at your desk at midnight A REFUND.
- Richard (10/5): - Thanks guys for a nice comfortable stay. Shout out the young women on the desk mexican food truck down the street was famtastic.
- Victoria (6/5): - Its affordable hotel
- ilovetotravel2838748 (8/5): Good, budget hotel, great location for exploring Mt. Rushmore. - I had a good stay at this hotel, especially given its ideal location just an hour from Mt. Rushmore. The bed was comfortable, and I enjoyed a quiet night’s rest. The unexpected toiletries, including body lotion, were a nice surprise. The 24-hour reception was convenient, and the on-site free parking was a plus. Breakfast was included, but it was limited to just coffee and cold cereals. However, with a supermarket and restaurants nearby in this small town, other options were easily accessible. Overall, a solid choice for travelers looking for comfort and convenience in the area.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not what was expected - first morning had no hot water, second morning had warm water, third morning had hot water. First morning the breakfast selection consisted of cold cereal, juice and coffee. The next two mornings there was a few bagels added to the selection. Definitely not what we were expecting.
- Lindsay (8/5): - I had a good stay at this hotel, especially given its ideal location just an hour from Mt. Rushmore. The bed was comfortable, and I enjoyed a quiet night’s rest. - Lorelei (8/5): - Other guests in the hotel were up almost all night slamming doors, running in the hallway. Totally inconsiderate of the guests who were trying to sleep!
- mark (4/5): - The free breakfast was deplorable.
- Eric (2/5): - No hot water. No breakfast. People smoking inside. Sewage smell.
- Sherry (2/5): - The staff was unfriendly and not helpful. The elevator barely ran. Thought we were gonna get stuck in it a few times. There was a hole in the wall in the bathroom. The sheets were dirty and had hair on them. The bed was rock hard. The ac filters had caked on dirt and hair. I had to rinse them out just so we could run the ac unit. The guest next door had a dog and Had tv very loud door wide open at 1am. Got up for breakfast next morning to a note stating no breakfast had to get supplies. It was horrible. Dont ever stay there!! this property owner/mgmt needs to do the right thing and refund me my money back
- melissa (2/5): - Smells HORRIBLE!! Property is run down.
- Rex (2/5): - Said there was a pool but it was closed down ..said there was breakfast but nothing some bagels but to toaster ...and the place smelled like sewer
- Terry (8/5): - This motel, while unusually inexpensive, is surprisingly pleasant. The cleanliness and overall quality of the rooms is far better than many much more expensive places. While the breakfast is not much and the pool was closed, all else was not bad at all. I was expecting less and got more.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good value. - Room was clean, hallways smelled funky, looks like they had fans to dry out maybe? Room smelled fine. Breakfast was basically nothing, choice of 2 or 3 dried cereal, and watered down coffee, but was overall a good value for the money. If your looking for a clean room and comfortable bed for a great price, this is the place.
- Michael (2/5): - Dirty (in and out), smelt like sewer, no AC in room, gave my room away, staff not helpful at all, could not contact via phone or text while on route. I could go on but what's the point
- Razel Junne (6/5): - Room not very clean. Elavator is so loud like its about to break. Its scarry. Halls smell gross. No food to choose from for breakfast. Just cereal and 5 stale bagels.
- Sherilyn (10/5): Great stay - Reserved a month earlier- smooth check- in. Great price helpful on limited senior budget. Thank you!
- Robert (4/5): Not for me - This place needs lots of work. First off it had a bad smell throughout including in the room. The deadbolt did not work. Very noisy as I had to listen to the people above me stomping on the floor. I asked for a top floor room but the girl told me the middle floor was all that was available. That wasn't true as the hotel was only half full.
- Cody (10/5): Black Hills EconoLodge Simply the BEST - wonderful time in Hot Springs @ Econo Lodge
- Margaret (10/5): - If you want a solid basic place to rest at a good price, this one is a winner. It's not fancy, and the upgrades are visible. But the beds were comfortable and the climate control worked well.
- Anu (6/5): - Overall not much to say not my favourite place to stay for the money we paid
- Paige (2/5): - We arrived late and checkin was quick. Upon arriving to our room it was abundantly clear the air conditioning was not working, the room was 84° and the a/c would not come on for more than 10 seconds before shutting off. Called downstairs and were told they’d call us back. Called back to move us to another room that he “had checked”. Walk in and exact same thing. I was beyond frustrated with little kids in tow. Apparently, they were having issues with the a/c but there was nothing to be done. I said it would’ve been nice to have be notified about that at checkin before unloading all of our items and getting kids in pjs. We were exhausted and frustrated. Booked another hotel in town immediately and left.
- Bobby (6/5): - The only problem was a renovation was in process.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location is great! The front desk person (the young girl) can be more friendly.
- CARMEL RED (8/5): - Good
- Neil (4/5): - All of my towels were stained and brown looking,
Also sat down for breakfast and was joined by an ant walking across the table. Then I looked down to see literally a pile of dead bugs on the floor. And the entire place had a nasty smell.
- Colm (10/5): - Perfect after a long day's driving, no complaints atall for the price
- Ben (4/5): - We appreciated having a roof over our heads. However, the air conditioner did not work, (July heat) the window screen had holes 2-3" in diameter, the edging was torn from the countertop, the bathroom sink faucet was not attached, the toilet kept turning on and off, and the tub would not drain. When I went to talk to the desk clerk in the morning, nobody was around. Just a box with a note to drop your key in the box. Other than that, not bad.
- Edward (8/5): - I liked everything except we were suppose to have a continental breakfast, but it stay closed the morning we woke up
- Patrick (6/5): OK - Serviceable. nothing extra.
- Rhoda (2/5): Wonky - The front doors are wonky uneven and don't open very easy. The elevator is a clanky janky ride. Bed made loud creaky noise whenever rolled over. Room was booked for 3 people and only towels provided for 2. Breakfast was only muffins bagels or cereal no options for diabetics at all. Also nobody around breakfast area for 2 of the 3 hours only 2 tables and people were spilling all over with nobody to help provide rags or clean up when i walked by to my vehicle gal had spilled in entry area and nobody around to help with wet floor. Pool is more hot tub sized should really be called a cool tub..
- matt (8/5): It's in the name - It's an EconoLodge, I got what I expected. The bathroom fan was loud enough to wake my wife, but at least it HAD a bathroom fan.....
- Luke (6/5): Inexpensive stay. Pay for what you get - If you're looking for an inexpensive stay this could be your place. Didn't seem like anyone worked there. Breakfast was sketchy, two out of the four days it was closed for an unknown reason, and was quite minimal. Elevator was loud closing. If there are any noises from others staying there you can hear them. Pool is okay not the best, needs to be cleaned. Internet was very poor, wouldn't connect to devices and if it did it was low, probably need a new modem.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No remote to TV. Nobody at front desk. You have to call and then someone in the back comes to help. There was only cereal and bagels for breakfast. No juice. Just coffee.
- Traveler786952 (2/5): Don't Stay Here - On its last legs. 2nd room, AC Did not work, toilet did not work properly, light in room did not work. Soap from previous guest still in shower, counter not cleaned well. Would not recommend this place. Main areas smelled. Breakfast is just cold cereal and some toast type items in a room with just two high top tables. If it was not so late in the day we would have moved on to another hotel and sacrificed our reservation. For what we paid I would have expected much better even in a tourist town.
- 299freidac (6/5): Do not stay here. Outdated. Breakfast was less than appetizing - The room was not the clean but outdated. Some of the lights did not work. The bathroom fan was very loud. Staff was not at front desk. We had to call & wait for someone to show up. Breakfast was only bagels, bread or cereal. One of the cereal dispensers did not work. The juice machine was broken & the out of order sign on it had obviously been there for a while.
- Elizabeth (4/5): - Swimming pool was down and breakfast isn’t great. Stayed three days never got clean towels
- rita (6/5): - Dirty no pool or laundry
