Guest Reviews
- Shanshan (10/5): - Great Experience! Easy to check in and check out.
- robert (8/5): - Close to deer harbor
- Renjason (10/5): - Stayed at a lodge room overnight. Excellent value for money. Our room and bathroom were clean. Check in was very easy. The bed was very comfortable; it was so comfy that it heavily influenced our decision to sleep in rather than get back on the road early morning. I would definitely stay again!
- Kristie (10/5): - Stayed here one night and it was such a smooth stay. Didn't need to even see a staff the whole time. Check in code was given beforehand and everything was so easy. Had an early morning ferry when we left, and it was nice to be able to make a free coffee and fill water bottles with ice and water before taking off. No a/c but it room was pretty cool at night with windows open.
- Jennifer (10/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cute hotel. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. I would definitely recommend anyone stay here if given the chance.
- Cherie (10/5): - We enjoyed the rustic charm of our room in the lodge. And the 4 poster bed. It was a comfortable room with all the amenities accounted for
- Walter (10/5): - The Inn is quiet, clean and comfortable. It is a bit off the beaten track on the island but nothing is very far away. Many on-line pictures show an old fashioned restaurant but that has been replaced with a smoke house restaurant which is good and very convenient.
- Curtis (10/5): - Nice property close to smokehouse. And close to the harbor for kayaking or any other boating. Nice big property to wander around. The locks were quite ingenious with your key code to your telephone number.
- Holly (10/5): - The Smokehouse BBQ had tasty food and service was fast.
- Christina (10/5): - Nice to stay.
- Danny (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay. Check in and out was simple. Enjoyed talking with Debbie at the property. Was everything we needed for our trip.
- Clarance (6/5): - Area was decent, room was decent, it was quiet but the TV was old and outdated, very small... around 20 inch...with gray lines going across the screen. If you dont care about that, everything else is not bad.
- John (10/5): - Very clean spacious room, well appointed. Comfy bed. Great selection of tea and coffee.
A nice bonus was the nightly bbq on the grounds so you didn’t have to drive to a restaurant unless you wanted something different.
- Barbara (8/5): - Loved the art in our room! You must know Nancy Spaulding to have 5 prints in this room. Very nice work.
Also please relabel the hot and cold faucet, as they are backwards and it was confusing. Hot water was good.
Room comfortable and extra room outside appreciated.
- Marty (2/5): - Nb
- Ted n Beth (8/5): - A restful setting nestled amongst the Orcas Island beauty.
- Verified traveler (8/5): confused customer - We were given a code to get into our room so there was NO interaction with staff. Trying to figure out where the lodge part was very confusing. I feel they need a sign outside the building to let visitors know that is the lodge since there is no interaction with staff.
- Julia (10/5): - So cozy, & so beautiful! Wonderful amenities, like toiletries, coffee/tea, makeup towel. Lots of outlets, comfortable bed, soft pillows, & warm blankets! Great view, gorgeous property. The room & buildings are stylish— traditional, but elegant. Perfect islands style look & feel. Booking & checking in was easy, & simple! Had a great bath, & was particularly thankful for the fan, as i enjoy the circulating air, & white noise. Would very happily come back to stay here again. Thanks so much for having me!
- Francesca (6/5): - Staff was nice, the cleanliness of the place was quite poor.
- Gwyneth (8/5): - Everything was great except that we did not receive clear instructions on accessing our room, and our GPS led us to one of the cottages rather than the main lodge
- Chris (10/5): - Nice place.
- David (10/5): - Actually no contact with anyone at the site. Very nice
- diane (10/5): - We had a hard time finding our room at first but found it and it was lovely!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Unfortunately, we woke up after the first night to ants all over the table, sink and windowsills where they were coming in. They continued throughout our visit.
- Leigh (10/5): - We had a lovely stay @ Deer Harbor Inn. Debbie was the perfect host, making us feel comfortable and welcome. The property is lovely, and the location is great. I would highly recommend Deer Harbor Inn, and we would definitely return should we have the luck to return to Orcas.
- Paula (6/5): - No bells & whistles here. Pretty run down.
Very good BBQ at restaurant
- Elsie (4/5): - Late notification of how important it is to reserve ferry ride several days in advance, hard to find room if you arrive at night as it is poorly lit and lacking in lit up signage. Room was very clean but it is old and small but it was quite clean. We passed on the restaurant on the propert after seeing the sweaty chef in the kitchen. The property has potential even though it’s old but we are accustomed to places a bit better maintained. Orcas Island is about enjoying the great Northwest and we still had a good time.
- Justina (8/5): - We were lucky to score a lodge room in the busy month of August. The property is older but feels homey. We enjoyed our stay, dinner at Matthew’s BBQ, daily walks to the marina and kayaking. We made use of the fridge and coffee maker in the room and there’s plenty of parking. It felt very safe and there are some nice views of the water. There is no AC so we kept the windows open and could hear some road traffic but it’s not constant. The upstairs plumbing and floors are louder if you’re on the 1st floor. They provide a # to call and we did have to call once about a problem in our room and the lady on the phone made it clear she was annoyed which was weird, kind of funny but also a little uncomfortable. However, a nice older gentleman came over right away and took care of things. All in all, you’re mostly on your own, but should have all you need. It’s great to have Matthew’s BBQ on site for a great meal (but it’s closed some weekdays) and the lawn area with toys feels like you’re at a family picnic. Some toys (ping pong table and rubber axe throw) are warped and need to be replaced. Would be nice if the Inn made more info available about the foot path to the marina, tidepooling, breakfast options, distances/directions to other key attractions because Wi-Fi is spotty once you leave the lodge. But maybe half the fun is figuring it all out on your own. Overall we had a beautiful trip. Thank you Deer Harbor Inn!
- Bradley (10/5): - Our room was clean and the Inn is close to restaurants and the pier.
- George (8/5): - At check-in we never gmet a human being or got a response to our text message asking whether we could check in.
The room was pleasant and had a nice view of the water.
Based on the listing we thought the restaurant next door offered breakfast, but it does not, so we had to drive a ways to eat breakfast.
- Therese (10/5): Would love to stay there again. - I am very pleased with my stay at Deer Harbor Inn. It’s charming, rustic, and very peaceful. I stayed in the main lodge, room 1 with 2 two twin beds. Here’s what I appreciated about the place.
• The room is well appointed with coffee maker, fridge, hair dryer and plenty of towels. Nice toiletries too!
• WiFi is also good.
• Check in was easy as they send you a code in an email 24 hrs beforehand
• Foyer has microwave and icemaker with cups and extras for your coffee bar.
• Matthew’s Smokehouse and Island Pie Pizza are just a stroll away.
• Super comfortable mattresses
• While not the fanciest place it was extremely clean
- Boyoon (10/5): - Great
- Allan F Craig (10/5): A Win! - Super cute lodge that has everything you need on a self-service level. Very quiet and peaceful. Lovely place.
- Edmond (10/5): - Great location; clean, comfortable rooms; friendly, relaxed service, all at reasonable rates.
- Griffin (10/5): Nice place. - It’s expensive but a quiet little place cottages are more expensive but it’s peaceful and right next door to a nice smokehouse and bar. The rooms are clean and comfortable.
- Jessica (10/5): - Adorable cabin, with cozy rooms. Matthew’s Smokehouse in the back of the property was delicious! Would definitely recommend as a great place to stay while you’re on Orcas.
- Thierry (10/5): - Great Inn to stay
- Derek (10/5): - Short walk to the marina. Nice and quiet. Room was perfect. All amenities on tap and ready to go. Ice was full and ready for beverage arrivals. Not one thing to complain about and many to praise. Will definitely stay here again.
- Neil (10/5): - Helpful owner directions and follow up
Very accommodating
- Michelle (10/5): - The quiet rustic appeal though I returned 1 evening finding something on fireplace not belonging to me so wondered who was in my room while I was out. Prerequest no maid service. Kinda freaky.
- John (8/5): - Very quiet and comfortable. Self check-in was convenient.
- Bliss (10/5): Deer Inn Stay - Lodge 1 was comfortable and clean. Wonderful stay!
- Edward (10/5): - We had the entire Log Lodge to ourselves
- MARSHA (10/5): - The room was very clean, very comfortable, quiet, we would stay here again
- Donald (2/5): - There was no office or anyone on the property to answer. Couldn’t find the room. Had to ask a neighbor. No instructions for door access or Wi-Fi. No cell coverage. Property looked like rural Maine in the 50s. If you don’t like BBQ, you are out of luck on food. It seemed clean. No staff or other customers. Creepy. Cue the Psycho music.
- Zuojiang (4/5): - Very old
- David (8/5): Enjoyable family reunion - The Deer Harbor Inn lodge room was rustic, but clean and comfortable. The bed was quite good and the room and lodge was very quiet. Considering the age of the building, we were concerned about noise transmission, but didn't hear objectional noise from the couple in the room next to us or from the room above us. No cell phone service or land line phone in the room made communication difficult. Overall, a pleasant stay.
- Lenora (10/5): - We love this place and go at least once every year. We have a sailboat and the Inn is walking distance from the dock.
Also having a restaurant on site makes it perfect.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was really nice. Sort of rustic. Quiet. I was working on the island so I didn't need anything terribly fancy. It was just fine.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved that this property was cozy and quiet. I also enjoyed how you can walk down the street to the marina area.
- Sandra (8/5): - A little confusing on getting to the room. The "lodge" looked like another one if the cabins, so I didnt go there originally. Thanks to a worker on site, she helped me. Thin walls, so heard neighbors talking, even tjough thet were speaking in normal voices. Beautiful area, and mainly quiet. I really enjoyed my stay, but next time will book one of the cabins
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Signage is poor, no staff at the resort, the towels, pillows and bed linens were thread bare and past their useful life, the TV was no bigger than a laptop, and the water in the shower would go hot and cold while showering. Two positives: the bed was comfortable and the WiFi worked. All in all it was like Glamping without the glam...
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cozy room on a beautiful property. If available definitely go to Matthew’s smokehouse & Deli just a short walk from the Inn.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - very good rooms or cabins for Orcas Island if you don't plan to camp right away!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice room and setting on the island. Be prepared no one to greet or help with questions on check in. Just a bag on the counter. Remember to check restaurant hours as there is very limited to no other places close to eat or purchase food. Cell service is nonexistent also.
- Ryan (8/5): - It’s not fancy, but the place is tranquil, very laid back, completely clean.
- Kendra (10/5): - Quaint and clean. Beautiful setting. We saw deer every day. It was relaxing and enjoyable. The restaurant food was delicious.
- Karen (6/5): - The coffee pot was dirty with grounds left in it. The tv was too small.
- Jim (4/5): - Upon arrival what a surprise at check-in, no one around just grab your white bag on the counter w/key inside. Had questions on where to eat near by in the off season. Given the price of overnight expensive being out of season at $134 per night. Rosario resort same price great stay friendly people. Deer Harbor Room outlets would not hold phone charger in socket kept falling out. Also only two outlets / ports available in the room, not near by where you can use a laptop and plugin at the same time. Refrigerator in room makes a lot of noise, of the two windows in the room only one locked, easy climb in access from the outside. I kept my bags with me when not in the room. Room was small, only two pillows for queen bed use, the other two pillows were in pillow shams.
- Cat (10/5): - We liked everything about this property. We will stay here again. The cottage was very clean - it was one of the dog-friendly rooms, and I could detect no trace of dogs having been there (no smell,no stray hairs), so they must have a stellar cleaning staff. The decor was pleasant, and everything was in good repair and worked properly. The hot tub was up and running when we got there. I'm only sad that we were there off-season, so we couldn't eat at their restaurant. Next time!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Had to call owner to get ice. Discovered by accident the hot tub that was on the rear deck. The owner did NOT mention it or leave instructions how to operate it. It ran all night long. The cottage was nice but not worth the $200 rate.
- WJ (8/5): - Large space in the pond cottage in the main room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Easy check in. Beautifully kept property. Comfy bed. Hot tub access, electric fireplace, bathtub, deer.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We never saw a staff person, except in the great restaurant!
- Thomas (10/5): Nce stay - Wry nice room with good WiFi and a hot tub.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - a very nice room, rustic decor, good bed, a little cramped but we had one of the smaller rooms. nice quite area. We would stay there again.
- Glenn (8/5): Deer Harbor Inn - It’s a great hotel. Only 15 minutes from the ferry dock. The closest place to eat is the on-site restaurant, which is a little spendy. My room was in the Lodge: a two-story cabin. Bathroom is outdated, water pressure is horrible. My shower went hot-cold-Hot every time another unit flushed. Registration was low-key and easy. My name was written on a white bag with the key in it. The white bag was on a counter with other white bags.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice getaway; quiet location, comfortable room. Great restaurant.
- Julia (8/5): It’s dark! - Beautiful area. Issue with finding location when arriving after dark. Not well lit signs to property. No one to greet you, going to dark cabin with porch light turned off.
- john (8/5): - Great place to stay for the money. No staff around for checking in or out.
- Nicole (10/5): Great Hands off experience - The Deer Harbor Inn was wonderful. We booked because we heard the experience was very hands-off from the point of view of the owner. Which was just what we wanted. We felt very secluded and private. The Inn was well stocked and the view from our balcony was beautiful. We saw so many deer and bunnies. Every morning.
- M.B.K. (6/5): - Unfortunately, fireplace did not work and there is no one to talk to or from whom to get any information (when you check in, you get a bag with your key waiting for you and when you check out, you leave the key in a box). It is also pretty far away from activities and shops and restaurants. Still, it is pretty clean and the bed was comfortable.
- Mary (8/5): - Easy check-in, practical and cozy cabin, peekaboo view of water.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice setting and comfortable room. Arricial date was mixed up but they had.the room available.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We stayed at the Inn to visit a friend on Orcas and her home was under renovations. We were familiar with location, which is convenient to the Deer Harbor community. Since it was off season, there was no-one to check in and we picked up our key from the office. We had an initial difficulty with assessing our room location and entering our room. The room was as expected and the entire facility is very clean. The room has a fridge, coffee maker and comfortable bed. A microwave is in the common area. Our bathroom was clean and my wife enjoyed the full bath tub. A small TV was also available in the room. My wife appreciated that the room has its thermostat and she could regulate room temp. We used the room only for bathing and sleeping. Unfortunately there must have been guests in the room above us for our second night. Their movements above seem amplified into our room. Cell service was spotty and unreliable. Twice calls were lost during mid conversation. The WiFi was strong and we had no problem streaming the evening news or using the internet.
- John (8/5): - A nice weekend get away, and having a cabin to myself was nice.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Unlimited coffee! Homey feel. Hot tub was amazing!
- MARIO (8/5): - Didn't interact with any staff during our stay. We picked up our key in a bag with my name on it from the office. It was a nice quiet location. There were deer roaming around. The grounds were nice. We had a view of Deer Harbor Marina. Overall it was satisfactory.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ok - Ok room— tiny and real thin walls. Comfortable bed.. good for one night . Not much for price. Nobody to check in and map was not included as it stated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great room on a quiet part of the island. Verycomfortable bed
- Holly (10/5): - Beautiful location. Comfortable and accommodating. An amazing island and a easy place to find.
- Douglas (10/5): Lots of knotty pine. - This place is great. Kind of summer camp like. Small room but big bathroom. Great restaurant on the premises.
- Shawn (10/5): - Great Spot and we look forward to going back! Deer and rabbit come to visit everyday and are fun to watch. Room was very comfortable. We heard that the restaurant was very good but could not get a table without having a made a timely reservation. Maybe next time.
- Ben (6/5): - Never met any staff. The bed was was comfortable. The rooms are ok, they are dated but pretty clean and comfortable. Had a loud family in the room above us the first night. Noise went on till midnight or so. The harbor is just down the hill a 1/2 mile. That was nice.
- Marjah (10/5): - If you are looking for a great place that is quite, safe, with lots of wildlife and easy access to everything and everywhere, this is the place for you. Not to mention the wonderful managers that accomadate your needs, which is a huge bonus in this world we live in.
- Shady (10/5): - Beautiful quiet area loved the cottage. Easy to walk to dinner, lots of wildlife to watch also enjoyed the hot tub.
- Wendy (8/5): - Loved the location. Nice clean & comfy room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great spot on the Island, secluded and beautiful. Room was extremely comfortable and hot tub was great. Tons of nature and easy access to the docks.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Wonderful rustic charm / feel in a beautiful location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Awesome! Peaceful, quiet, beautiful setting, room was great and the hottub was a big bonus.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The place was very cozy. Exactly what we saw when we booked it.
- Robert (8/5): Our stay on Orcas Island. - I am glad I read previous reviews and was not surprised by the unusual check in process, i.e. collect a bag with your name on it in the office and go find your room. Room was comfortable and clean, not large but adequate. Shower took a while to get warm and old i.e.made for someone under 6 feet. Dinner at the Inn was great. Enjoyed eating on the patio and watching the deer and sunset on the bay.
- Dan (4/5): - Poor tv quality and very small screen. Don't expect much from housekeeping but generally everything was "acceptable" aside from failure of housekeeping to clean bathroom
- Dirk (8/5): A relaxing non-traditional stay - When we arrived, we went to "check in" which is to say we picked up our welcome bag at the registration cabin. Inside we found our room key and some helpful information about our stay and the island. We enjoyed our stay and will be recommending this Inn for friends and family. If you are looking for a front desk, and staff to help you this is not the right place for you. This is a relaxed Island Inn that allows the guest a private experience. Much appreciated and enjoyed every moment.
- verncoop (6/5): good place to stay - Good place to stay on Orcas. Never saw any staff including at check in. Very quiet. The room was neat and clean. Bed not so comfortable.
- vicki (8/5): Quiet countryside - Comfortable place to stay when you want peace and solitude. No phones in the room and spotty cell service allowed us to truly get away from it all. Loved the deer and bunnies. The room in the lodge building had a comfortable bed, mini fridge and small tv. Bathroom was clean and had ample hot water. We were on the island for a wedding so didn't spend a lot of time at the Inn but it's location was an easy drive over to East Sound (the biggest population center on the island). A wonderful surprise was the restaurant- we enjoyed two seafood dishes that were delicious, ate in the deck overlooking Deer Harbor in the distance and enjoyed beautiful piano music.
- Bev (4/5): Over priced. Hotel needs more cleaning staff. - Had to strip the bed in order to get clean sheets. Floors needed sweeping. Over priced and too far from Eastsound. Don't plan to stay ever again. The 2 bedroom house was quite nice for a family. But the smaller room in the lodge not acceptable. The furniture too large for the room. Needed better cleaning.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cozy, efficient, a little worn, but comfortable. - In a lovely location on the west side of Orcas Island, Deer Harbor Inn offers a comfortable, if slightly worn, cabin-like ambiance...their restaurant is known around the island as a good place for family-style dining.
If you're looking for high-end amenities in a magazine-worthy setting, this is not the place. Instead it offers a more rustic, low-maintenance "family vacation house" vibe, with plenty of well-worn mismatched furniture and supplies to "last the summer"... cozy and comfortable, if occasionally a little shabby.
The check-in/check-out is efficient but a little impersonal: you simply enter the tiny office, grab your little white bag with key and minor written instructions, then you're on your own. Appreciated, if you happen to be running late, but there is a sense that not having any contact with personnel makes it a tad, well, impersonal! At check-out you leave your key in a box by the door, which, again, is efficient, but a connection to those running the place would have been nice.
Being as "on our own" as that introduction suggests, we did appreciate the ample supplies left in our lodge -- towels, toilet paper, iron, microwave, etc. -- making anything we needed easily found and right at our fingertips. The rooms were clean and well-stocked, and when it was discovered that our TV did not work, we were able to get it fixed within 24-hours.
All-in-all, a decent mid-level inn with thoughtful concern for most needs.
- Michael (6/5): - Bathroom needed more cleaning before we arrived. Coffee maker was full of someone's coffee grounds. Window lock is broken. Facilities need more maintenance to make it a nice place to stay.
- Carmen (6/5): Hotel is in a nice secluded location - The little hut we stayed in was adequate. We stayed 3 nights, first night our room was tidied, trash taken out. After that nobody filled creamer for coffee, no trash removal... Back patio hadn't been cleaned in a while... we never talked or saw any staff members. Not worth the $$ ....
