Guest Reviews
- Mimi (6/5): - Hotel is in need of major renovation. Apparently, this was a time of transition to new owners, so felt disorganized. Breakfast was so so— we’ve certainly had better experiences at previous B and B’s.
- Lee (6/5): - Nice area. Lights in bathroom would dim very low at certain times of day so that you could not see when getting ready. No TV in room. Many cats around the place so you could hear them all night! .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely grounds; kind, helpfull and interesting inn keepers and other travelers
- Olivia (4/5): Not Pleasant - Dirty Rooms & Rude Owners - We were very disappointed with the York House Inn. It's under new management, which I would excuse if the operators had not been so rude. When we voiced concerns about the first two issues below, the owner we spoke to did not apologize & actually blamed us. With regard to the cat, she said we should have mentioned a cat allergy it in our special requests to the hotel. We were surprised that a new business owner would place such little value on the feedback of guests. I wouldn't expect this place to improve.
1. It was dirty, with mildew on the shower curtains & hairballs on the carpets
2. There is a cat allowed to wander through the rooms, which was never communicated (I am
allergic)
3. The breakfast was subpar (soggy french toast with a few blueberries) despite being advertised as
"seasonal, local, & likely to make you so full you'll skip lunch"
4. The cleaning person was walking around barefoot
5. The owners seem to have an issue with booking sites. When we said they should mention a pet
on the premises on their website or in their email communication, they blamed us for using a
booking site
6. The ground floor is loud. My mother was in a ground floor room and said she could hear the
coughing and snoring of another guest all night. I had an upper room & wasn't bothered.
7. The owners have not figured out how to operate the doors to the rooms
However, the inn is close to Clayton, hiking, shopping, and a winery.
- Robert & Missy (10/5): Nice Getaway - I read the reviews the good and the bad, and I must say No, it's not the W or even the Best Stay and it's not trying to be. It's a charming out of the ordinary B&B with and old time feel that will bring you back to your childhood days, its a warm feeling that makes you want to stay in bed until the smell the free breakfast being serve. Outstanding stay!!!!!
- John (6/5): Off the beaten path B and B - Nice visit. Old Inn showing some rough edges. Exterior need work. Room is comfortable. But since it is an old inn the ceiling is very thin. Heard the people moving around early evening and early early morning. Could hear every footstep.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Love staying here!! - This was our second time staying here and it was just as amazing as the first time a few years ago. Love the BB and location. Beautiful house! We will definitely be staying here again.
- Missy (10/5): - We had a great time and found the Inn very quaint. I would stay there again !!
- Verified traveler (10/5): History and Charm - We went to Clayton, GA for a wedding and looking for a place to stay last-minute, found The York House Inn. The Inn has a lot of history and charm, we only stayed a night so I don't feel like we got the full experience. I'd definitely go back. Thanks a lot.
- Joe (6/5): Needs Attention - The grounds were not well attended to was our 1st impression. We walked around and things were generally dirty and not kept up on a daily basis. The fire pit area looks like no one has been around or picked up anyting in quite some time if you are lucky enough to discover it's location about 75 yards back in the woods. We had to go to the store and buy our own firewood.. 1 charcoal grill on grounds (bring your own charcoal) Room had no Heating or A/C controls. It is controlled by the owner. Came down for breakfast in the morning and there was no place to sit because they don't have enough seating for all of the guests. They was no coffee and we were told they were making more while we sat outside on the porch. Never received coffe and after 15 minutes we just left and went to breakfast in town.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We were evacuating from Irma, the gentleman at the front desk said that we could kennel the dogs in town, but they would not be able to accommodate our 2 yr old grandbaby. He charged us for 1 night ($160.00) and we left.
- William (8/5): Touring usa - Big thank you to Dan the owner made our stay most welcome lovely oldest B and B in Rabun Gap, visited the highland 40 min drive on Dans advice butifull area lots to see and do, also lovely waterfall,s to visit. Highlands is a nice village to visit lots of shops
- Daniel (10/5): Quiet and Comfortable - The York House is a great stop for any excursions you have planned on the Georgia-North Carolina border. The staff was courteous and unobtrusive with a swift check-in and check-out procedure.
Our room was clean and the modern and private bathroom was a welcomed advantage of staying at this bed and breakfast. Do be prepared for this inn's history and age; the floors will creak and there are scratches and rough edges that inevitably come with the passage of time for any old structure. All of this gives the inn unique charm and character and should be celebrated and appreciated as such.
The morning breakfast was clearly made with love and care. Everything was fresh and seemed to be made on site, down to the bread used for my french toast. There was plenty of variety at breakfast as well and the staff was able to accomodate the dietary restrictions of my wife. Prompt table service was also a plus.
- greg (10/5): Beautiful old home with a beautiful view - Needed a nice place to get away for a short mini vacation and this was a wonderful choice. The family who runs the inn were charming and it was quiet and peaceful. Will go back the first chance I get
- curtis (10/5): Perfect Weekend - Great weekend getaway. We celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary here and loved every minute of it.
- chuck (8/5): Historic Place to Stay - Our experience was excellent. The innkeeper was very hospitable and prepared to help us in any way. The four breakfasts we enjoyed while staying here were well prepared and delicious. We gave it a four simply because it is an old structure which has its drawbacks. Be warned that if the inn is full, it will be rather noisy from creaking floors and thin walls. Also, the bathroom was small and the shower had some problems. With all this said, we would still highly recommend a stay here, especially in the off-season. It is definitely a worthwhile experience.
- Steve (8/5): - Property needs repairs, painting, Yardwork, and a little TLC
- Terry (10/5): Quick get away - Wonderful. Arrived early, Stan let us put bags in room, so we could go sight seeing. He helped us with destinations, made reservations for us. Realize this Inn is historical, built in 1800's. I enjoyed reading of its history, the property treasures. The best 2 days of relaxing in awhile, thanks Stan.
Then the waterfalls, vineyard, overlooks. Just enough to enjoy, relax and feel revived.
- Janet (10/5): Wonderful historical bed and breakfast - This historical inn was so beautiful and relaxing. Room was very large. Stan made full hot breakfast every morning with plenty of hot coffee. We also enjoyed the honor bar down in the basement rock room. Veronica cleaned our room daily. We had a great three day stay and plan to return. 12 Spies winery close by was also enjoyable.
- Ron (8/5): BnB Newbie - Comfortable, clean, convenient and a pleasing alternative to motels. Happy to have stayed here.
