Guest Reviews
- Margaret (6/5): - Breakfast was very good pub menu was also very good bed comfort good toilet blocked twice still blocked when we checked out
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good accommodation, awful breakfast service. - Accommodation was comfy and worth the amount paid. The person on the phone before arrival had been helpful. However, the service for breakfast the following day was awful. I had to go into the kitchen myself to speak to the chef as we couldn’t find the person who had previously been there to take orders. When they did arrive, they could not have seemed less interested in being there. No smile and not even basic politeness. When they brought the breakfast, which was mediocre, I asked if there was some cutlery as all that had been set out on the table was already used. They pointed at at nearby table which is as not occupied and told me there was some there and walked off.
- Lydia (8/5): - Great place to stay with grwt facilities. Lovely spacious room and easy check in. The only thing was that the check out time was incorrect on Expedia to the actual check out time so had to get out of the room earlier than planned.
- Lawrence (6/5): - Room’s tired, bathroom not great
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfortable room friendly staff
- Wendy (10/5): - Lovely friendly staff
- Laura (8/5): - Friendly staff and good food. Chalet was a good size with amenities
- Nicholas (8/5): Charming village pub - This is a charming pub and hotel that is perfect for visiting North Yorkshire. The owners are friendly and welcoming, the food is good and the room was comfortable and warm. One minor complaint- in our room the water pressure for the shower was very low.
- darren (10/5): - Excellent room , spotless , staff warm and friendly and breakfast spot on . Amazing value at the price , would happily stay again .
- ANGELA (10/5): - LOVELY, PUB WAS GETTING VERY BUSY AT 6 O CLOCK TEA-TIME WHICH INDICATED HOW POPULAR IT IS. PRETTY OUTDOOR AREA WITH PLANTS AND FISH WAS BUZZING YET PEACEFUL FOR A FAMILY EVENING, THE ACCOMMODATION WAS SET IN THE GARDENS TO THE REAR OF THE PUB. MY BRICK BUILT B & B CHALET WAS WARM AND COMFORTABLE WITH ALL THAT I NEEDED, EVEN THE ALARM WAS PROVIDED BY THE NEXT DOOR COCKEREL !
I WAS TOLD OF RENOVATIONS TO BE DONE SOON. IN MY OPINION JUST A FEW ODD JOBS ARE NEEDED DUE TO CARELESS GUESTS. VERY QUIET COUNTRYSIDE LOCATION AND I WOULD LOVE TO RETURN FOR A LONGER BREAK. THANKYOU X
- Clifford (8/5): - Staff very friendly, good breakfast but single bed very lumpy :-(
- Clifford (10/5): - Stayed for one night, very friendly staff, good menu selection. Breakfast very good.
- Daniel (2/5): - Very poor state of a mattress could feel every spring in every movement. Only 2 plug sockets in the room. Mould marks coming through on walls and ceilings.
- Julie (6/5): - Stayed here for two nights - on first night we were greeted by bar staff checked in - asked for table to eat we were told we would have to be quick as finish serving at 8pm (website showing 9pm) we arrived at 7.30.
I mentioned website showing 9pm she abruptly answered that doesn't start until Monday (Easter)
We quickly took our bags to the room & returned to the pub where we were asked what we wanted as soon as we walked back in
I asked for a menu as didn’t want the special pie night
Food was nice but couldn’t stand how rushed & abrupt the female staff member was
Breakfast staff totally different lovely & friendly.
Room needs updating too.
- Pamela (8/5): - Staff and food very good
Room had mould and tap not fitted to cracked basin.Told staff and was told that rooms are being refurbished shortly
- Stephen (6/5): Ye old red lion - The hotel was friendly , clean and food was excellent. Our room was in a chalet which again was clean and comfortable. Our dinner was excellent although where we were sitting was not very warm but it was snowing outside and with people coming in and out the cold air was getting in.
- Cecilia (6/5): - Staff very helpful
- gordon (8/5): - Very good staff friendly and efficient atmosphere good food choices good British pub atmosphere good outdoor area plenty of parking
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasant Stay - Please note there are NO TOILETRIES of any type supplied in the accommodation other than toilet paper.
- Dale (8/5): - Accommodation could do with a few touch ups additions, overall enjoyed my stay, staff were very helpful, evening meal was great, breakfast fantastic and tasty.
- Jacqueline (8/5): - Good value, room basic but clean ideal for overnight stay. Meal in restaurant very good and plenty of it, breakfast really good
- Jim (6/5): Friendly but Tired - Staff were friendly and helpful but the pub is rather tired and it shows. Rooms were clean and comfortable but paintwork was shabby and our bathroom door stuck - needed both of us to get it open again!! The breakfast was fine - well cooked and good quality, however, the dining room despearately needs improvement. The carpet in particular looks like it has been down for decades - it looks thoroughly grubby and even distracting!! Shame as the pub has a lot going for it.
- William (8/5): - It was comfortable for the night, staff were pleasant and helpful. Diner and breakfast were very good.
Sound insulation between two rooms was very poor - we could clearly hear conversations whilst they had to put up with my snoring I'd imagine.
- John (6/5): - Staff friendly breakfast nice
- John (8/5): Lovely location and friendly staff - I only stayed one night, arrived at 10pm and left at 05:00 so didn’t eat there. The staff were friendly and helpful and the accommodation was fine. Good value for money
- Mary J (2/5): Find another place to stay - Staff was wonderful as was the dining area and bar. Beds were sunken in & mattresses were shot. The shower was a nightmare as the cold water faucet wasn’t working. So constant fluctuations in scalding hot and freezing cold. TV didn’t work. Walls are paper thin so everything can be heard between the adjoining room
- J (10/5): - Accommodation great ,staff great , food great, all in all would recommend.
- GARY (6/5): Average - Pub very very pleasant and good food although Hotel staff did not advise last serving for evening food was 20:00pm. I just got in in time. The food however was very good.
Rooms are very basic and not very sound proof, hear all noise from adjoining rooms
- Mark (10/5): - Absolutely wonderful. Does what you would expect. Fantastic food and beer and really wonderful friendly staff.
- Stewart (10/5): Nice rooms - Nice and clean room and good quality food served at the premises
- stuart (10/5): - very nice and handy for we wonted to be
- Stephen (2/5): - too noisy at the weekend. Live music outside the accommodation, leaky bathroom, no soap
- David (8/5): - The quality of food was absolutely fabulous. Good choice of beers too .
- Louise (8/5): Ok stay for 1 night - We stayed for 1 night as we had a wedding nearby. The rooms were clean, the beds were not very comfortable, we could feel the springs. There was no hand soap in the bathroom. Breakfast was good, very pleasant staff. It was ok for the price and for one night.
- Mark (6/5): Things happen. Its how its resolved that matters. - Arrived at 945pm hotel was closed no answer on either telephone numbers messages left on both.
Spoke to hotel next day lady admitted she hadnt checked for late bookings which ours was.
She refunded without hessitation so all good as they were at fault.
Would consider rebooking as i dont bear grudges
- Rhoda (10/5): - I booked a room for a night for Fathers day so my parents dont have to drive home and my parents absolutely enjoyed their stay. Pub was also very good and would definitely book here again.
- Charlene (8/5): Lovely place to stay - The staff were extremely friendly!! The breakfast was lovely. The room and bathroom were clean and nicely decorated. Only bad thing was the walls are thin so heard everything of the people next to us. Bed was comfortable but seemed to be a small double. I would stay here again if i was in the area.
- Sabar (2/5): Don’t bother turning up after 9pm - Telephoned red lion pub and left voicemail to say il be their later in the evening due to meeting. They called me back and left me no voicemail to advise their closing and not to bother turning up. So when I got their there was no body their no body answers the phone so had to sleep at the services.the vendor could have left me a voicemail at the very least. Discute the way I have been treated
- reginald (10/5): - Food was excellent. We had dinner (paid for) and the breakfast which was included.
Quiet location. Pub got busy around dinner time.
- Ben (8/5): - The staff was friendly, food was nice breakfast was decent. I would say the room needs work it’s very outdated and expensive for what it is and location more of a £60 room then £75 if I’m honest.
- Andrew (8/5): - Property was close to public house that served evening meals
- sarah (8/5): Overnight stay - They were very welcoming and accommodating I was running late and the kitchen was closing so I phoned my order ahead and arrived to a delicious meal .
- Tracey (10/5): - Booked one night as last minuit stay ,wished id booked 2 nights as ideal location to stay to visit other areas...staff lovely chalet clean warm and comfy...food was nice in pub thats attached...but fish shop is just round corner from pub ... village green and other pubs, shops also there ...
- Anthony (8/5): Good hotel/pub - Cheap and suited my needs.
- Maureen (10/5): Fantastic stay - The chalet style accommodation was excellent and helped by the weather we sat out each evening until after dark, the meals were excellent and the breakfasts were so large and tasty we did not need any lunch
- Gary (10/5): A gem - Great staff, great food very friendly and relaxing place to stay for weekend
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely pub, great food, very friendly, accommodating staff.
- Verified traveler (6/5): 1 night business stop over - Ok for a 1 night business stop over
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful. Food from bar good value and tasty
- Keith (2/5): - Management disgusting SOMEone booked wrong day but know refund
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff, great food and reasonably priced.
