Verified traveler (8/5): Quiet oasis. - Located in a quiet area peaceful area away from crowds. I view this as a retreat or writing a book. Room was nice and clean with a balcony. Small issue with the toilet, but was quickly remediated by owners (very nice couple, wife is very caring). Basic continental Breakfast (fruit, coffee, juice and toast) but they make to order if needed Surrounding can use some upgrades. It is not the "Marriott Marques" as some of the feedback from the owner. Nice access location to the beach and local restaurants.

Chandy (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay. We were there for a week in late May ("rainy season") and pretty much had the place to ourselves. Even though is it technically a hotel with multiple units, it felt more like visiting friends. We had two units for our group of six (couple in their 50s with four kids aged 22, 20, 19, 15) and both units were clean, well maintained, and quiet, with powerful air conditioning. Steve and Martha could not have been nicer or more helpful. They went out of their way to make sure we were happy and enjoying our time in Tamarindo. Martha served up delicious breakfasts every morning and arranged excursions for us (night time turtle tour, day trip to Nicaragua, estuary tour, and sunset catamaran cruise). Yes, the hotel is located uphill from the beach on a bumpy dirt road, and yes, there are stairs to climb to get to the rooms, so this place is not for anyone seeking luxury or who has mobility issues. You might find some bugs or even a lizard in your room but if something like that does happen, you can be sure that Steve and Martha will be there to help. We were very comfortable here and never felt unsafe, even when making our way back to the hotel late at night. If you are a go-with-the-flow kind of person (ie - Pura Vida), this is a great choice for you.
Tanya (10/5): - Very cute property. The three of us liked our two bedrooms (queen, king, and bunk beds) with small kitchenette. The property has a security gate so we felt quite secure (most all the properties seem to have this - it seems to be a Costa Rica thing). The units are spread among several small buildings that ascend a hillside so there is an inclined path (and a few stairs) leading to most of them. Its very beautiful with much shade due to the many mature trees and bushes. Lots of flowers. The pool is small but refreshing. Breakfast was in the covered area next to the pool. There were a selection of 3 made to order options each morning plus juice, coffee, fruit, toast, etc. The area is quiet and the wall unit ac's with remotes worked great - though the bathroom is not included in the a/c area and has screen only windows to let out the humidity (or let it in!). We left the doors to the bathroom closed. The roads up the to property (along with the others nearby) are mostly dirt with a little gravel, somewhat steep, and last bit is bumpy. It was fine for our AWD vehicle and probably would be fine for a 2 WD vehicle. The walk to the beach took about ten minutes. Hotel is in a quiet area away from all the congestion and shopping but easy to walk if you don't mind a little dust and inclines (on the return from the beach/shopping area). Owners are very nice. We enjoyed our stay. Oh! And the wifi was excellent! Best of the four hotels we stayed in in Costa Rica.

HARSHADRAI (10/5): - This is a beautiful boutique hotel. The setting is impeccable. Rooms are located in a group of twos, with a total of only 11. There's a lot of steps to climb to get to your room. But, the setting of the rooms rewards you well. The access to the hotel and room is not easy. It involves some unpaved roads and climbing a few steps.

The atmosphere is soothing and intimate with the cottages hidden in beautiful flowering trees and green vegetation. The owners and staff feel like family. Martha and her team served us delicious breakfast each morning and was very helpful in setting up excursions. Trevor was always so accomodating...available to make coctails by the pool and answer any questions we had. We loved the location - just a 7 minute walk to the beach, restaurants, shops and bars in Tamarindo, but such a quiet oasis to come home to when we wanted to recharge. We will be back!

We stayed right next to the pool and loved the room, very spacious and the open air shower is a very unique touch. The owner was always present or one text away and was very attentive to our every need.
Elizabeth (6/5): - Look- if this property didn’t have pictures when you were booking it was probably be really exciting when you got there. I feel like the love of this property from the owner has been lost. I was most bummed about the patio which is 100% the reason we booked here. It does not look like the pictures anymore unfortunately and it is not a hot tub but a cold tub which with the heat in Costa Rica it was whatever. The first morning at 730AM we woke up to construction directly outside our bathroom that continued for each morning of our vacation- 3 nights. There are no windows on the bathroom so it was like the workers were in there with you. The water pressure works sometimes- one morning our toilet wouldn’t even flush. Not sure if that might just be something common in older properties here. Our WiFi only worked day one but we honestly stayed busy most the time we just let it be. This property just needs a little TLC from the owner who I 100% believe had passion for it when he purchased it but just has lost it. I struggled with the stars because if I had zero intel on this property I’d probably give it at least 4 stars. But given we book off of pictures so we were completely expecting something more updated and maintained, plus the very loud construction not a single person warned us about beforehand that brought the overall rating down.

Verified traveler (10/5): What a Lovely Little Oasis - We happened upon this lovely little hotel after our plans changed last minute and we ended up in Tamarindo. The staff was very friendly and very welcoming. The room was spacious and had everything that we needed. We were situated next to the pool which had a lovely covered seating area where we spent a lot of time sitting and enjoying the beautiful trees and flowers that surrounded it. A hot breakfast was available every morning and the food was very good. They also had tosst, cereal and fruit available. There was an honor bar located next to the pool which was great when you needed a beverage but did not want to walk to the store. This hotel was a little off of the main strip but it made it very quiet and the walk into town and to the beach was not bad at all. We would definitely stay here again if we find ourselves back in the area.

We picked Hotel Tamarindo Village because it was family owned & operated, not a fancy major hotel chain. The breakfasts were amazing! Martha and the staff were so friendly and accommodating us on recommending and arranging excursions. We got just the right amount of excitement, relaxation, with a person touch and affordability.

Sherri (8/5): - This hotel is a boutique hotel situated on multiple levels so expect a lot of stairs to some of the rooms. We stayed in a 2 level room with an outdoor jetted tub surrounded by lush plants and a balcony where we could see the ocean. It was almost the top highest room on the property. I counted 49 steps not including a few slopes. The property is located somewhat near town. Hummingbirds, iguana, grackles, a crab and butterflies visited the property. Breakfast was free with made to order fresh cooked food. Each day had a different set of dish options. All of the employees and owners are very nice and helpful. The hotel appears to be hidden. It is on a dirt road that is not completely shown on Google street view. We walked everywhere to restaurants, shopping, and the beach. A small grocery store was nearby next to a bank with an ATM. A golf cart rental shop is located at the paved road closest to the dirt road up to the hotel. The dirt road has many bumps, and ditches. It is a challenge to drive on it without scraping the bottom of a vehicle. A golf cart will tip a lot but is doable up to the property entrance. Tour companies did not have trouble finding the hotel and will pickup at the front entrance. The only improvements I would suggest are handrails for a few spots that did not have them, better draining in the shower (the hotel is aware of it), and the sliding door into the room needs repair as it is difficult to open and close. I would stay here again.
Gerda (6/5): - The breakfast was nice. Checking could have been better with provided necessary info for our stay. Our room was not serviced twice (no fresh towels/bed was fixed-- did not bothered to inquire why)during our stay even thought daily service is advertised. Better communication with guess is suggested.

Zoe, Steve, Martha (owners) were very personable and helpful, they helped us get acquainted and settled in and made it feel like home. The room was cleaned nicely every day. The breakfast was great, and every morning there were different options. Last but not least, Bingo the cutest little puppy would run up and greet us every now and again, wagging that little tail of his, and we could not get enough of him. I would definitely stay here again if I ever find myself in these parts. Thank you guys!
Eric (8/5): - Subtle hotel stay for those who are not scared of a little wildlife entering the room, primarily the bathroom (mainly ants). Hot and tasty breakfast served everyday, which you’ll appreciate once you see the prices around nearby cafes/restaurants. Steve (the owner) was very kind to me and my wife, and he explained everything we would need to know for our stay effectively in a 2 minute window. 4-4.5 star stay all things considered.

David (10/5): - Perfect Boutique Mini Resort!! Individual bungalow type rooms with daily service. The outdoor (open top with screen enclosure) shower and bathroom was a great experience if your ok with trying something unique on your vacation. The staff was great and attentive from arrival to departure. The hotel is not new but definitely well maintained and clean. The resort is beautifully located up high and surrounded by a forest type setting, hence Costa Rica! The resort is on a slope with lots of steps but definitely not difficult by any means and bug spray should be considered. Everything was close but definitely recommend a car as the roads are unpaved. We had no issues finding places to eat and shop. Lots to do especially with the beach just minutes away. We stayed with a group of 10 with 4 bungalows. Breakfast every morning was awesome and and a great start to your day. Highly recommended... We loved our vacation there and will definitely return!!
Jamison (10/5): Honeymoon day 9-11 - Info on what amenities were provided was incorrect. The front desk was empty most of the time we went for anything. The views were great, and the room was cool, but needed some updating.
Abigail (10/5): May 2024 - Upon arrival we were greeted by the hosts who were extremely friendly and accommodating. All staff were great to deal with. The pool and free breakfast were extremely convenient, and the beds and air conditioning made our room a great place to relax after a long day. The hotel has a very friendly, family run atmosphere, and we enjoyed getting to see the Cat and Puppy running about the property! The location is a little off of the main road which made for quiet nights, and peaceful mornings to hear the birds. The balcony was a great addition to our room. I would absolutely stay here again hopefully in the future!

The property is lush with greenery and feels very private. The rooms are clean and, while not fancy, nicely appointed and clean. The bed was comfortable and the room had more than we needed. The pool is lovely and a delicious breakfast was served every morning poolside. With only 11 rooms we got to know other guests and chatted with the owners often. The owners made us feel like guests in their home rather than a hotel. It was such a nice stay!
Matthew (10/5): - The owners and extremely friendly and can help you with any local tour or dining questions. It is a little bit of an upward climb up the dirt road coming back from downtown but you will get used to it after a day or two. It’s worth it for the location just away from the busy downtown but close enough to wal there and to the beach.
Chinar (10/5): Best Stay in Tamarindo - Its a beautiful family run boutique hotel. We took the ocean view and private cooling pool room and it was wonderful. Clean rooms, comfy bed and amazing outdoor shower area. Breakfast has limited options, but is homemade and tasty. Steve and Clara are very friendly and have excellent tips for going around Tamarindo. It is around 15mins walk from ground zero. Will definitely stay again on our next trip.

Timothy (10/5): - I liked everything about Tamarindo Village but especially enjoyed the peaceful and private setting. I was traveling solo and stayed in #2 and initially felt like I was being indulgent with the size of the room but quickly gave myself permission to enjoy the tranquility of the accommodations. Owners were on site, very friendly and fluent English speakers. I was about two weeks into a trip and had developed certain questions about the area that they were able to help me answer due to my limited Spanish. The layout of the various rooms and suites into the hillside is different than most places in the area. Thankfully I like that but if mobility was challenging for you this might be something to consider. Clean, comfortable, friendly, private, all top notch. Mature landscaping allows you to feel like you’re in the jungle or above the canopy. I plan to return and personally do whatever I can to not stay at any one place twice.
Esmail (10/5): - From the moment we stepped into the reception area and met Trevor, we were greeted with warmth and charm. His welcoming demeanor made us feel like old friends, setting the tone for a delightful stay. The hotel itself is a true gem, surrounded by lush greenery, vibrant plants, and towering trees that create a serene atmosphere. Our room, number 1, was a haven of tranquility. With a spacious window and a large sliding entrance door, we were treated to a picturesque view of the sun filtering through the branches and leaves of the surrounding trees. The melodic songs of birds added to the enchanting ambiance, gently caressing our ears each morning. Each day began with a delightful surprise as we perused the menu featuring three different breakfast options, all brimming with fresh fruits and local flavors. It's evident that this is a family-run business, with Trevor's California roots shining through in the impeccable service and attention to detail. It's a refreshing departure from establishments solely focused on profit, as here, hospitality is paramount. Situated atop a hill, the hotel offers both seclusion and convenience. A mere five-minute stroll takes you to a plethora of excellent restaurants, while a leisurely ten-minute walk leads you to the stunning beach. The well-lit alleys provide a sense of security even after nightfall, allowing for peaceful nighttime strolls through the charming town. In summary, our stay at this hotel was nothing short of magical.

Kim (10/5): - Amazing stay! This was our first trip to Tamarindo and Costa Rica. We loved the villa we stayed in (number 11), with our own private plunge pool, loft area and balcony. The main pool was always clean and very quiet. The breakfast daily was delicious with lots of fresh fruit, juice, coffee along with a cooked hot breakfast from the menu. The grounds are kept very tidy and the staff are super friendly and accommodating. Lots of stairs as this hotel is built on a hill. About a 5 minute walk to restaurants and groceries, and an 8 minute walk to the beach. We can’t wait to stay again! Thank you Trevor, family and staff!

Friendly and helpful staff made our visit fun, relaxing and stress free - we will not hesitate to recommend their hotel nor we will hesitate to return - Tamarindo is a wonderful beach/surf town with first class dining options and lots of exciting activities including surfing, horseback riding, boat charters and zip lining to name just a few. So much to explore in future visits.
Luis (10/5): - Charming little villas with incredible interior design and space, and little details you don’t get in other places. The outdoor areas are really nice with lush trees and flowers. The pool area is great for that morning or afternoon time in the water. Breakfast was very good and changes daily. Overall a great place to stay.
Jerome (10/5): Enjoyed it very much - Very cool place. Nice vibe. Walking distance from the beach and the city center, yet very quiet. Beautiful rooms; very clean. The AC system works well; you can adjust your room temperature easily. Very welcoming staff. They include breakfast, which is truly great, not only because the food is good but also because you get to meet the cook (she is a local) and the owner. This was our second stay there and will have no reservation coming back. (Family trip: 1 couple and 1 child 13 y/o)

Jennifer (10/5): - I greatly enjoyed my stay. The hotel was walkable to everything in the town of Tamarindo. The rooms had everything that you needed. The breakfast and pool area were quite charming. There was quite a bit of construction in the area surrounding the property, but we found this to be true throughout the town and just embraced it as part of the local experience. Would definitely stay there again.
David (8/5): - The owners and staff were professional and treated us with kindness during our 7 day stay there. The construction noise next door was annoying , however, I realize that was beyond the owners control. The morning breakfast was delightful and in a good location by the pool (if you would add in some sausage and/or bacon, it would make it even greater ). The room was comfortable and cozy. The AC worked greatly and the restroom and shower areas were clean and nice. I did , however, see some ants often in the bathroom. Suggestion : Place a wash machine and dryer in a building or covered part somewhere by the pool area. Some hotels allow the customer to buy tokens and soap to operate the WM and dryer. Laundry adds up quickly while enjoying the beach. There are no close laundry facilities from your location(unless one takes transportation or walks a long way on roads).

Julie Theresa (8/5): - The property is set back from the main town which is great as you don't get the music noise which is extremely loud, it was 5 mins walk from the main streets and beach so was ideally located for us and there is parking if you have a car. The hotel setting is beautiful, with palms and trees to shade the patio areas and the pool/ dining/bar area is lovely. Our garden room which was near the reception was okay. The beds were very comfortable but I would suggest using cotton sheets as the air con in that room isn't very strong so it gets very warm at night. The bathroom shower area was lovely and the room was clean and tidy but a little bit tired in places. I would say that the room is a 2.5-3 star but the surrounding hotel area offers a 3.5 star. However we knew that we weren't in a 4-5 star hotel and the price we paid is fair for what we got and met our needs. Another suggestion would be to offer water in the room upon guest arrival as we arrived at night and were desperate for a drink. We were able to get water from your honesty bar but a bottle would have been lovely in the room for a quick reviver. If you want 4-5 star accommodation in Tamarindo you will be paying a great deal more and are likely to be located either in the town with all the associated noise or out of town, too far to walk. The owners, their children and their staff are 5 star as they are so lovely and helpful. We booked our Rainforest tour and transfers through Martha and it was all fabulous.
Kelly (4/5): - The hotel is in Costa Rica, it is an old hotel but for the most part is pretty clean and has some old world charm to it. The hotel is what it is. The problem with Tamarindo Village Hotel is the owner, Steve. Normally, I don’t leave negative reviews but I felt obligated in this case. Steve misrepresents everything, even when telling the truth will work. Steve will lie to your face and then laugh about it afterward. Steve also has never been at fault for anything in his life. He reminds us of Matilda’s dad, Harry Wormwood. Before renting a bungalow, I called and spoke to Steve on the phone. He assured me we had a king size bed and perfectly functioning air conditioning and a private hot tub. When we arrived, we learned we did have a king size bed and AC, they are just not in the same room. We did have a private hot tub, just no heat. Open air showers mean no privacy, Steve and the neighbors had full view on the interior of our bathroom, including shower and toilet, this place is super creepy honestly. From our room not having water 3 out of 7 days, to the steps leading to our room, the walk up the super steep hill, renting golf carts, Steve literally lied about everything and always blamed someone else. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! I would suggest avoiding this place at all cost. Steve the owner is simply dishonest and if you pre-pay with Expedia, you are stick trying to make the best of things.

Michelle (6/5): - Our stay here was only OK. The owners were kind and the cleaners and breakfast staff also very nice. The bedroom in our room had a large window that did not properly latch and lock, which made me feel uncomfortable since it had a roof right underneath and everything else in the area was heavily barred (window wise). The property right beside, which faced the window I am referring to, had a group of locals building on it. 2 of the 4 nights it was very noisy from their partying, which made sleeping difficult until the noise stopped. Breakfast was good though simple and repetitive. Overall it was ok, though I would look for another option if we were to go back.

Rhomeyn (8/5): Great stay for the location and cleanliness! - The friendly staff and unit were cleaned to perfection! We would have loved the trees to be trimmed so we could see more of an ocean view from the 1st and 2nd floors of the unit. The complimentary breakfast was a nice touch.
Aram (8/5): - A nice quiet place to relax a short walk from the main streets of Tamarindo. 5 minute walk to the Thursday night market and a 10 minute walk to the beach. Breakfast was delicious and bed was comfortable.
Nina (10/5): - I really enjoyed my stay with this hotel. The management staff was very friendly and accommodating in our needs and requests. The staff was available at all times of the day and night. Our room was clean, we had a little kitchen with a microwave, fridge, and dishes. Breakfast was served nice and hot every morning. I would stay here again!

Shi (6/5): - like: room clean, fancy and have all you need including refrigerator and microwave. hotel is a good location, close to a grocery store, beach and main street not like: 1)the road to hotel entrance is bad, no paved, dirty and dust. 2) no parking on site. 3) said room has garden view. i expected to view garden from windows but it is not. 4) the most disappointed: on 08/22/2022, i booked 3 nights with $229/ per night for 12/27-12/30, next day 08/23, i cancel one night. Orbitz agent contacted hotel manager Steve and got FULL refund agreement. I have all chat records and Steve’email to prove this. But Steve still charged 3 nights 08/23/2022 right away. when i checked out, i thought i should get Full refund on the cancellation but Steve said he only return $156. there is commission fee $42, i need collect from Orbitz. i contacted Orbitz. actually it is Steve does not return. also tax $23 not return either said already sent to government. i have been charged $73 for the cancellation! i never have this bad experience before. at this point, i will not recommend this hotel to anyone you need be careful if you need make change or cancel the booking with Steve.
Vincent (10/5): - A unique property up on the hill with extremely comfortable lodging, wonderful privacy, away from the traffic and dust of town. Also, from being elevated a bit, there are less mosquitoes and a nice breeze. The breakfast was wonderful. The pool and the Jacuzzis were very clean. I enjoyed an extremely relaxing stay and was very happy. Steve and Trevor go out of their way for anything you may need. Steve even drove me to the airport free of charge. I’ve never experienced that before. You can’t go wrong staying here. Vinny
Michael R (10/5): Hidden gem right off Tamardindo beaten path - This is a real gem just a short walk from the main drag in Tamarindo. The owners were incredibly helpful and friendly, and our family really enjoyed their hospitality. the rooms were HUGE, the AC worked like a charm (thankfully, it was hot), the pool crystal clear, cold beers in the honor bar, really a great place overall for our first night in Tamarindo! We would definitely return and I highly recommend it here! Unfortunately, we had to leave too early to enjoy the breakfast, but that was our fault ;)
