Guest Reviews
- Brian (8/5): - Nice quirky old style pub room which was surprisingly large.
Breakfast was excellent.
'Wet Room' did look like it could flood the room easily. maybe it won't but I used a towel to ensure it didn't.
- Jo (10/5): Great place to stay - Lovely place to stay. Lovely location. Great friendly staff and a lovely breakfast.
- David (10/5): - The Globe is a great pub/ bed and breakfast. The room we had was large and clean with a en-suite shower room. The breakfast was excellent and you can choose what you like from their cooked breakfast list the night before. The village of Buckfastleigh is very nice and you have the Abbey and moors on your doorstep. Great value.
- tSharon (10/5): - Jane the host was lovely and she was the cook as well and food was delicious the inn is over 150years old so you will have to take that into account but we had a great stay and would recommend
- David (10/5): - Very friendly and accommodating staff
Great food
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very basic but ok for price. - We liked: bed was comfy, good central location, didn’t experience any noise issues either from outside or other guests, large fan provided welcome relief in hot weather, tray of teas / coffees with biscuits was provided, TV was small but adequate
We didn’t like: bathroom was dirty (loo hadn’t been flushed and there was tissue in the bin on arrival), no hand soap in the bathroom (nor shower gel), no milk for hot drinks - there’s a fridge on the landing which supposedly contains milk portions but this was empty, only one hand towel provided for two guests, pub was closed when we returned from a night out at 22:45 on a Friday so no nightcap!, no breakfast available - sign on door says breakfast is 8-9am but the pub was locked when we arrived tried to go down at 8:45. Presume pre booking is therefore essential.
- Sarah Jane (10/5): The Globe - I was in Devon for just a one night stay at The Globe. The bed was super comfy and tbe bedroom and bathroom were very clean. The cooked breakfast was delicious and to much for me to manage.
- karen marie (10/5): - We received a wonderful warm welcome and the same level of friendly hospitality throughout our stay.
The food was excellent and we enjoyed the company of locals in the pub.
We thoroughly recommend this as place to stay, eat or just have a drink in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
- Matthew (10/5): - Check was fast and easy. I was put in room 1 which kind of sat above the beer garden and so it was noisy. I requested a room change for something quieter and they gave room 4 which was perfect. Nice and quiet and got a good nights sleep. My only criticism was that although there was tea and coffee there was no milk options so had to go buy milk and there was no shower gel or soap in the toilet shower area. Easy fix as a coop next door. I suppose I could have asked but they already been accommodating with the room change and the cost was so insignificant for a pint of milk and shower gel. Seemed fair
- Jacqueline (10/5): - We had a great nights stay at the Globe. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was pub food but amazing. The best Hunters Chicken ever and the steak and ale pie had huge chunks of meat. Breakfast was good too. The bed was very comfortable with a good nights sleep b
- Vanessa (10/5): - The bar staff, land lady, locals were lovely. If I am down in the area again I will 100% stay here the food was lovely, the beer was good and I felt at home down south. ( I am from West Yorkshire)
- Eve (10/5): - A little outdated but a great manager who made us very welcome
- Yvonne (8/5): - Lovely staff
Friendly atmosphere
Great food
- Claire (10/5): - Slept really well, great staff welcoming and friendly. Large sunny room very comfy, good sized bed. Would recommend and stay again 😃
- Chris (10/5): - Landlady does everything.
Good value in a quirky little town
- Pranay (10/5): - Excellent staff! super helpful and kind. Many thanks for your hospitality, I’m sure to return.
- Amber (10/5): Fantastic pub and stay - Brillinat local place. Fanatstic landlady who does all the food herself. Would highly recommend and let us sit here until we were ready to go. Friendly, welcoming, just lovely.
- Sarah (10/5): - Lovely old pub with clean and comfy accommodation. Live music on the night we stayed which was fantastic but probably worth checking beforehand if you wanted an early/quiet evening. We loved our stay and would happily stay again
- Sandra (10/5): - Nice place to stay. Nice staff, comfortable bed and room. Nice food. Would stay there again.
- John (10/5): - Very nice welcome. We had a evening meal which was lovely, can recommend the home made steak & ale pie. Would stay again.
- Brooke (2/5): - Limited parking and narrow streets. The toilet in the room wasn't flushing and nobody seemed to care. The street lamp directly outside my window meant I could not sleep due to bright room. I understand it's a 3 star B&B, but it was lacking basic amenities.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really lovely staff. Toilet wouldnt flush though and unfortunstely i left early hrs so couldnt report it
- John (10/5): - The property is very old and as such has lots of original quirks, such as uneven floors but this all adds to the charm of the building. The landlady and staff were very welcoming and friendly, approachable and bent over backwards to make our stay comfortable.
- Anna (10/5): - The landlady is very welcoming and works hard to make sure everyone is comfortable and well fed. The building is very old and so is the village of Buckfastleigh. It makes a good base to explore Dartmoor. The parkiing is fine overnight and is free between 6pm and 9am. You then have to move your car or pay for short term parking. Very reasonable room rates .
- Graham (10/5): Globe Buckfastleigh - Pleasant & peaceful. Friendly staff nice location
- David (10/5): - Jane and the time made us most welcome, had a great meal in the evening with a pint in the bar, lovely breakfast, all in all a perfect five star stay.
- yvonne (8/5): happy to stay again - friendly staff, good evening pub meal, lovely breakfast and clean room all at a good price.
- Anna (10/5): - The Globe is the most warm welcoming place. From the first step in its friendly, clean, comfortable place to stay and the food both for dinner and breakfast was outstanding. Would recommend to all, and will definitely stay again.
- Jonathan (6/5): - Staff were friendly, The breakfast was good. The room and ensuite wet room were slightly awkwardly laid out with the bed restricting good access to the wet room and the plumbing was rather noisy.
- Matthew (6/5): Doors that go bump in the night - Facilities were appropriate for the price charged. Service was friendly and breakfast good quality. The addition of a wet room to a bedroom not designed for it meant the bathroom door would not fully open as it clashed with the bed. Other than that OK
- Donovan (6/5): - Friendly welcome and room was comfortable but very basic. Bathroom is a wet room and drainage is poor so had to sweep the water by foot in the direction of the drain as it was flooding. Thin walls between rooms so can hear guests in their bathroom. For a couple of nights it was fine!
- Samantha (2/5): Poor - Poor quality, a lot of pubic hairs in bathroom, toilet brush was disgusting, radiator cover hanging off and pillows were horrendous. Not to mention the fact they ‘opened’ for breakfast at 8am, we were met with a locked door from the upstairs accommodation no answer when knocking. Oh but it’s ok because you can leave through the fire escape. Would definitely not recommend.
- Mariusz (10/5): - Fantastic hotel to visit
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointing - Room was very small, toilet door banged against bed when opening and closing and door did not shut meaning embarrassing to use toilet. Inflexibility of service when a few minutes late to have breakfast, left with none.
- andrew (8/5): - A1
- Kathryn (10/5): - Nice relaxed atmosphere in the pub, and a quaint little bedroom upstairs, with a wet room style bathroom, and a tiny TV. I liked the tea and coffee tray with real china cups and glasses, but I only saw the mni fridge with milk portions in the hallway when we were checking out. Breakfast was good. Friendly staff!
- Anna (10/5): - What an outstanding place. Made to feel so incredibly welcome. Lovely stay, amazing breakfast and dinner. Definitely recommend
- Tim (10/5): - Nice little hotel in a small town and very good price for the rooms
- Anna (10/5): - Fantastic stay. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. The food was outstanding, I ate both breakfast and dinners here. Loads of vegetarian options. All of the staff were so accommodating, friendly and welcoming. Will definitely stay again, throughly recommend
- michael (10/5): - Friendly and homely
- Steven (8/5): clean and comfortable - Really friendly staff, room was clean but dated, everything worked, bed was comfortable, had to leave before breakfast so can't comment on that.
Would definately stay again
- Steve (10/5): The Globe, Buckfastleigh - Clean and comfortable, right in the centre of town. Very pleasant
- Janice (8/5): - The double room we had was clean and comfortable.
It is a pub so expect a bit of noise in the evening.
We had a view of the high street out of bedroom window.
There was also a separate entrance at back so you could come and go as you pleased, without going through the pub.
- Brian (10/5): Family visit - As always a very pleasant stay
- Karen (8/5): Last minute night away - Old pub with rooms. Staff were all all very friendly. Evening meal and breakfast was good. Unfortunately there was a band playing there that night. But went to another local pub and played Pool. Returned at 11pm and all was quiet.
- Simon (10/5): The Globe Inn - A great find - The Globe was friendly, comfortable and clean. The staff were great. We shall be staying again.
- John (6/5): - Comfortable bed but bathroom was in fact a wet room and on arrival it stank of dampness. After shower imposs to use as floor remained wet. Totally impraticle.
- Mark (10/5): Where to stay in Devon - A charming inn in a charming Devon village. Great customer service.
- Steve (10/5): Great stay - Really friendly, good clean room with an excellent fan that was very welcome on that humid night, and a great breakfast.
- Andrew (10/5): Lovely stay - Paul was Friendly when I booked in. Loved the home made curry in the pub .
- Tim (10/5): - Very pleasant
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly , helpful , warm and welcoming . Recommended to others . Lovely neighbourhood .
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was comfortable but could have done with a deep clean. Water was still in the kettle and the kettle itself had dirty marks on the outside which suggested that it had not been cleaned at all, we did not use the kettle during our stay.
The bathroom was poorly laid out, the toilet being situated too close to the radiator - this wasn't a problem during the hot weather however. The shelf above the basin caught your head when cleaning your teeth.
The side lighting between the beds had not been dusted in a long time which does not fill you with any confidence.
However, that being said the staff were really lovely folk and very friendly.
All in all the room was adequate for our needs.
- Verified traveler (8/5): served its purpose - Welcoming staff
Room comfortable and clean
Great as a stopover to Plymouth
- Malcolm (8/5): Well positioned for exploring Dartmoor - Buckfastleigh is a nice little village and The Globe is very well positioned for exploring Dartmoor. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and pleasant facing a road outside. Unfortunately the room was situated above the bar which was hosting a Friday night Karaoke event which did not finish until 11.00 !! There were no other rooms in a quieter position available.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is very old and atmoshpheric. I did not sample the friendly bar. Staff could not do enough for me.
- Mrs S (2/5): Overpriced and smelly. We couldn’t stay! - We did not actually stay. We were taken to see the room along a landing which was being used for storage for the pub and when we got to the room it was a tiny twin room where the beds were pushed almost together. The beds were lumpy and the whole room smelled of beer and cigarettes. We had to decline the room but were still charged. Over priced in our opinion for what was offered.
- Anthony (10/5): Great place to stay - Great place to stay! Quick check in, good room - clean, plenty of space and all the usual facilities. Nice pub for a drink and a good full English breakfast in the morning.
- Paul (8/5): Comfortable rooms above local pub - Comfortable rooms above friendly local pub. Lovely breakfast and very helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): nice hotel no parking, but car parks close by - everything about the hotel was great. we arrived on a sunday only to discover that there was no meals available sundays! we should have been notified before arrival, consequently we had to find another venue depriving our driver of the option to have a drink. There was no hotel car park but parking was available close by.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - A basic local pub but a strange policy of locking the main door into the pub overnight...from 10pm ish to 9am meaning the only way out is via the fire escape.
- Andrew (8/5): Little town small Pub - I can be a little critical when I stay away so don't take my comments too literally as you may not agree. However, I stay away in different hotels all over the country most weeks. This is a small local pub with rooms above. I believe there was only one other couple staying on the same night as me. The room was ok, not very luxurious. A bit dated and in need of a freshen up. Some of the carpets, especially outside in the hallway, could do with a hoover! (or replacing as they are now within the 'classic 80's era) The bar staff (who is also the reception) was helpful and very cheerful. Food was as you would expect from a pub, nice and served quick. There is hardly anything in the town so don't expect much in the way of sightseeing.
