Guest Reviews
- Darrel (6/5): Nice but tired - The pub is a nice character place from the outside but inside needs some tlc. It's really a good locals boozer with rooms. Can be noisy both later on at night (I stayed on a Monday which seems to be student night). In the morning you get sound's of the city waking up, Garbage lorry at 5am. No breakfast either so don't expect it, but on the plus your right on the town for dining out etc. Wouldn't rule it out but might look elsewhere first.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I was really impressed with the venue, the room, the service, the Covid-19 safety and the fabulous shower. Easy check in. Easy access. Great location.
- Tom (10/5): - Very good customer service, I was allocated room No 1 which is a nice big room with 3 windows so good light & fresh air, the room has a very comfortable big bed (& very clean bedding) so I got a great nights sleep, the bathroom is a good size with high quality fittings including a great shower, the room can be accessed without going through the pub so that's a plus too and I was very impressed by their Covid 19 precautions so overall a A ......and I would stay there again !!
- Naj (8/5): - Clean & comfortable room although very warm. Staff were helpful. Great location for a one night stay in the town centre.
- John (10/5): - Excellent room for three peope. Super comfy double bed, and slightly harder double sofa bed, as normally expected. Large bathroom. Everything very clean and very pleasant and helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Breakfast was awful, staff couldn't care less, grubby and run down.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really good rainfall shower. Bedroom was clean and tidy had everything you needed
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice room and fine breakfast. Only concern was that the checkin was too casual and the explanation of after hours entry was incomplete.
- Steven (10/5): - Very helpful and lovely staff made it a pleasure to stay here.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Barley Sheaf's location was perfect and had a lovely view of the Cathedral from the garden and conservatory. The place itself was stylish and well kept with very friendly accomodating staff that made me feel relaxed and at home. The room was spotlessly clean with good amenities and the bed was very comfortable. I will definitely be booking with them again and look forward to another pleasant stay in the future.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - lovely location right next to the cathedral, nice rooms, great shower, fluffy towels! I did request a quiet room and was placed in room 1 overlooking the beer garden which was busy until 11.45pm. A hot summer evening but not very quiet! Only one staff member on the breakfast shift, but she seemed to cope well.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very helpful staff. A good combination of local activities and catering for tourists. Ambitious plans for improvements
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Staff friendly and helpful and excellent position, in the city center and nearby Cathedral. Not good value for money- cleanliness not good, room at the arrival was very cold and radiator not working. According to Expedia check-out was by 11am but at 09:15 one of the housekeeper tried to enter in the room with her key. Then, breakfast was poor, not much choose. Plates and bowls were dirty and we had to ask for butter, sugar and other stuff as they were missing from the buffet table. Very disappointed - we expected a better service for what we paid for.
- Verified traveler (8/5): B&B in a quiet pub in the centre of town - This is a B&B in a pub right next to the cathedral. We had a warm welcome from the landlords and a comfortable night. The pub and rooms are due to be refurbished in mid October 2015, so this review only has a short validity. The room was quiet: great shower, but the decor is ready for the refurb. Reasonable breakfast In the conservatory by the river but some local sausages would have been nice. Parking is in the pay and display nearby.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very central - You can almost touch Truro cathedral from your room, the pub downstairs looks a little untidy (but a new owner is about to take over), the bedrooms are excellent, almost to 5* hotel standard
- Terry (6/5): Barley review - The hotel, on first impression, looked very run down and out dated. After checking in we went to our room, which was comfortable and realatively clean. The noise was a problem, especially from the student bar in close proximity to the hotel. The food (breakfast) was excellent and the reception staff were exceptional, would bend over backwards to help. A tip for anyone planning to stay B&B at this hotel, make sure that breakfast is included on your paperwork, otherwise you will not get any!!!!
- Simon (8/5): Short stay at The Barley, Truro. - We enjoyed a two night stay in Truro at The Barley.
Initial impressions weren't great, as the outside does need to be tidied up, but once inside it is nicely laid out and tidy. Our room was spacious and clean, but the decor could do with touching up in a few places.
The staff were excellent - really friendly, and were always on hand to answer any questions we had, and serve food/drinks. The bar area was a pleasant area to relax when we returned each evening.
- Luke (8/5): Great value for money :) - Stayed here for a work stopover, hotel staff were friendly, room was nice and clean with everything i could've needed. Wifi was 12mbps with coverage all over the building. En-suite was amazing, walk in shower was a great feature. The bar downstairs was a little run down but apparently it's being refurbed next as the rooms had been done in the last couple of years and you can see where the money went lol.
If you are looking for a 5 star hotel then this isn't it, but if you are looking for a well-priced clean room with most things you could need that isn't in some little old lady's house then this is a brilliant place to stay.
Highly Recommended :)
- Gavin (4/5): Mixed Reviews For The Barley - On arrival the lady was unhelpful with parking. We were then informed that breakfast was not included in our stay, only when my partner showed the e-mail from Hotels.com informing them it was they then agreed, but said we would have to pay for coffee or juice! (which we didn't pay for in the end) The bedrooms were clean and tidy but the hotel was shabby. The breakfast was very basic with little choice. Wouldn't stay again.
- Graham (6/5): A good central ordinary place to stay - Staff very pleasant but seemed unaccustomed to catering for visitors in terms of helping them undertand the neighbourhood and its facilities.
