Guest Reviews
- Gary (10/5): - Easy access to the train station, clean room, easy access to the highway
- John (6/5): 1970s motel - This is a 1970's motel, due to the design it can never be anything else. Rooms small and dark, no electrical outlet in bathroom. AC noisy. Motel is clean, manager friendly.
- Deanna (8/5): - Staff very friendly and accommodating. Made the visit pleasant. Motel needs painting on walls and doors and overall repair of entire facility.TV located over side of bed//hazardous for hitting your head while accessing heater/AC. No bedside clock. No telephone. No guide on how to operate TV.
- Robert (6/5): - Price was terrific and Lou was warm and welcoming. Beds good. Otherwise needs remodel.
- Tingyong (4/5): - Very old and poor condition!
- Rebekah (8/5): - We knew what we were getting especially for the price, the room was clean, the staff friendly but it is still pretty rundown. We went to ride the train and it is right next to the train depot so that was nice. Just some FYIs, not complaints, they still use actual keys, office closes from 10pm-8am, and it is a little way out of town so no dining within walking distance, but the town is only a mile away with several dining options. It served it's purpose and was really the only option in town.
- Brenda (4/5): - It was rundown and needed a lot of work, bed and pillows were extremely uncomfortable.
- John B (10/5): Excellent overnight for the nearby Scenic Railroad - While this is an older facility, the room was clean, the bed was very comfortable and lastly it is a park at the door motel. No long hallways. The facility is very near the Cumbres & Toltec Railway station and it is convenient to restaurants in Antonito. Nice owners.
- Guy (10/5): - It is a good clean room for the price . Yes, the rooms are dated, but everything works and it’s clean. The staff was very friendly and very helpful and made them safe self available if needed.
- Scott (6/5): - The property is dated and needs a facelift.
- Charles (8/5): - Even though the property is quite old, the owners do all they can to make staying there pleasant. The room was very clean with the necessities well provided. They make the most of what is possible.
- Larry (8/5): - Pillows were so thin the were almost non-existant, no smoke alarm, noisy upstairs neighbor, musty smell but you get what you pay for
- Frederick (8/5): - Close to railroad
- Andrew (6/5): - Need new mattress and pillows. Better curtains and seal around doors. Property needs a good paint job.
- Michael (2/5): - This is possibly the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. It was dirty. When we tried to close the curtains, the rod fell off the wall onto the floor. Windows are filthy. An awful experience.
Avoid this place!
- Tommy (8/5): - It was clean and people were verry friendly. Ill stay here again
- Jennifer (10/5): - Great night stay
- Keonan (10/5): - godowntownod location to train and
- Thomas (10/5): - Just a nice, quiet, clean, and affordable place to stay. Very convenient for taking the train ride.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Proximity to train is great - This motel is trying to come back from being closed due to Covid and previous owners extremely poor management and care of the facility.
Rooms need a lot of work but were clean and the proximity to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (our intent) made it an easy walk (even with a toddler).
The manager (new owner) was pleasant and you could tell she is chagrined that the place needs so much TLC to bring it to full usefulness.
Though in need of some work, the place was clean. We would stay there again.
- Kenneth (8/5): - managers are good people very nice. Owner needs to give them some money to do the simple repairs the Inn needs! I had good time there any way ! THIS IS A VERY BASIC MOTEL AS THE INTERNET SAYS.
- Susan (8/5): - If your just looking for a place to sleep this will do the job. It's an older motel with no thrills, that needs updating. Check in went great, the bed was comfortable and the water pressure was awesome. My only real concern was that the door needed a deadbolt or just a better lock on it. I would stay here again.
- Rebecca (6/5): Not very comfy - The room was huge, empty, and poorly decorated. Was not comfy. The heating system is really loud and kept me awake.
This hotel is in need of some serious updates.
- Gary (2/5): - Total disaster... The motel was built in the '50s and the original air conditioner is still there. The heater did not work. The front door handle was loose. The TV had 15 channels and 4 were duplicate and 5 had static. Attempted to tighten the cable cord on the back but the threads were stripped. You have to hold the handle down on the toilet until it flushed. I would like to request a full refund to make a point that the owners are over charging for nothing more than a tent with roof. Ice machine was also broken.
- christopher (10/5): - Very quiet and clean. Enjoyed my stay.
- Bruce (10/5): - Close to the railroad, made connection very easy.
- Craig (4/5): - Property is close to the Scenic Railroad if you want to walk. Otherwise you can stay in a nearby town, Alamosa. Bigger town and nicer accommodations. The hotel is outdated. The hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating.
- John Mark (10/5): - Managers, Lou and Jeremy were great!
- Anita (10/5): - Since it’s the only place in town to stay it was adequate. It was clean and friendly people running it. No ice tho
- Mark (10/5): - They were extremely friendly and helpful! We will visit these people again.
- gl (4/5): - Pros: Excellent location to ride the historic train. Friendly check-in person.
Cons: terrible door lock (not safe), the shower barely functions (water comes out the handles and tub spout, what's left trickles from the shower head). Tiny, thin towels and blanket. This place is just worn out. The railroad should buy it and turn it into a nice, convenient place to stay before or after the train ride. I would have paid more for a decent hotel room. Next time, I'll stay in Alamosa, pay more and make the drive down to the train in the morning.
- Margaret (4/5): Run down. - Did not stay. Place did not look appealing.
- Ernst (8/5): - Seems out dated and missing Continental Style Breakfast! Coffe only ????
- HEMANT (10/5): - Lou is the star manager.
Property not in a condition.
But ok for a night.
- Stephen (6/5): - The motel, next to the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad station, is an outdated twentieth century motel that needs substantial updating. On the night we stayed there, there were a lot of room vacancies which we felt was odd; especially since it is next to a nationally recognized tourist attraction. On a positive note, the rooms and parking lot were quite clean. Also, the price for each room were reasonable.
- Dale (6/5): - First off the room we stayed in was very clean. The lady in the check in area was very friendly. Keep in mind this is an old property, so it was a little run down. The beds were way too hard for my wife and I. The air conditioner was noisy. The exaust fan in the bathroom did not have a cover over it. You get what you pay for. The price was very reasonable compared to other places near by.
- Benja (10/5): - Lou was a great host - she was very friendly and efficient, and each morning she made coffee for me according to my schedule. Will be back!
- Russ (8/5): - A well located motel to what I was doing, Flyfishing.
- ricardo (8/5): - Small town motel that was quiet, clean for a nights stay. Service was courteous and friendly. Not a 5 star hotel but adequate for my needs.
- Christine (10/5): - This is an older property. But for the price, it was fine.
- Bonnie (4/5): If you are into ‘Bait’s motel’ …… - Don’t waste your money drive the 30 min drive back to Alamosa Colorado!
- Phyllis (8/5): - Close to rail road ticket office
- William (10/5): - Perfect for the purpose. Staff was super friendly and helpful.
- Glenn (4/5): - Very small no ice machine small TV old beds and very noisy air conditioner. But clean.
- Paul (6/5): - The property itself is quiet and peaceful but there's a company next door operating very loud trucks that start early in the morning, so if you're not an early riser that could be a problem for you. The property is a little dated and could use some fresh paint and minor updates. The big plus for this property is that it is next door to the Cumbers &Toltec Scenic Railroad so if you don't want to make the 1/2 drive from Alamosa to ride the train, this hotel is the place to stay. The people working the front desk are very nice and helpful. They get an A from me.
- Thomas (4/5): - Caretaker was very helpful. The room was OK bed not comfortable, toilet was very small. the fridge was noisy.
Probable wouldn't stay there again.
- Benja (10/5): - Lou was great - she was welcoming and even made coffee for us in the morning. We will definitely be staying here again.
- Schealla (10/5): - Ok
- Olen (10/5): - Close to the train
- Perry (10/5): Would stay here again - The Narrow Gauge Railroad Inn is an old motel right next to the Narrow Gauge Railroad. The staff was great. The rooms were exceptionally clean and we were very comfortable in the beds. The only problem we had was the drain in the bathtub when we showered. The bathtub would fill up faster than the water would drain. The price was great and I would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfortable and so convenient to the train and the junction.
- Kuang (4/5): - The room was very dated, there was no microwave, fridge in the room, no ice machine, we had to ask for ice, the bed was extreme uncomfortable, we could feel the spring from the mattress.
- Jerry (10/5): - They were friendly and helpful
- Tom (8/5): - This hotel is 100 yards away from the train station so if you're here to ride the train you can't beat the location. The room was very clean but it lack amenities: no microwave or fridge, ice machine was broken but manager had ice for us from their ice machine whenever we asked for it. Very limited CATV but wi-fi worked find. Staff was very personable and positive. Will stay again
- Erin (2/5): - Nothing i checked out early
- Thomas (10/5): Underated place. - Was a clean affordable place right next to the train station.
- Shawn (6/5): - it was cheap
- Kenneth (10/5): Old but completely functional Motel - Comfortable, clean, and the plumbing and wifi worked - which was all I wanted.
- Eric (10/5): - Bare bones but exceptionally clean and great owners. Very quick walk to the train.
- Margaret (8/5): - This hotel was next to the train ride we were taking so it was convenient. The staff were great. Very friendly and out going. The hotel was clean but it looked dirty because it is very outdated. This hotel would be great it it was updated.
- Graham (2/5): - Stains on sheets and comforters. No breakfast as advertised and no internet.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff was friendly & helpful. Check in & check out was easy. Convenient to train station.
- Dennis (8/5): - A good place to stay and ride the train
- Eugene (8/5): - Good price
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean & friendly
- Clarence (4/5): Disappointing! - I'd give this motel a 2.0 or 2.5 rating, as making the reservation was a mistake, but this was the only hotel in Antonito. I booked 2 rooms for 2 nights. First the positives: The desk person was very nice and friendly. The rooms were reasonably neat and clean and smelled good, if somewhat dated, and the beds were comfortable. The negatives, unfortunately outweighed the positives: The town of Antonito has a rundown, sad atmosphere, with only the 1 motel and 2 restaurants. The motel had a dated, rundown appearance with the paint flacking and cracking on some doors. The listing said breakfast included but sorry, no breakfast. No coffee or mini-fridge in rooms and ice maker not working. TV was an older 20"or so with a mass of wires hanging below. The air conditioner was a wall model mounted above one of the beds with more wires hanging below. One of the bedside lamps was partially broken from the mounting and hanging at an angle. Rather disappointing overall and I'd rather have paid more for a nicer hotel/motel. My advice for people taking the Chama and Toltec railroad is to keep driving to Chama (a more charming and picturesque town with many hotels and restaurants) or stay in Alamosa.
- Daniel (8/5): Good value - Staff was nice place was quiet.. what more do you want for the low price. No coffee maker no ice but i would stay for 1 night again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very fast and friendly check in. The hotel is old but kept very clean and maintained well. I would stay here again and would recommend to family and friends.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hotel clean, Antonito a dump. - Hotel staff super friendly and helpful. Hotel is old and tattered, but the rooms are clean. For sixty bucks a night, clean and relatively safe is what you should hope for, and that is what you get. Can walk to ride railroad next door. Other than railroad, Antonito is pretty much a dump.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is located right next to the train station. That is a major plus. Management is very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It got me thru til the next day.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Our door did not lock
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The unit was clean. It was h not hotel in the town. The town was very depressed. For such a small town why do they need 3 pot stores. What a shame. The Mexican /American restaurant was excellent
One of two restaurants there
The couple managing were very friendly
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This hotel is part of the charm of the historic town of Antonito. It is simple, yet you appreciate it is located not only near the train depot, but all the majestic beauty that surrounds it . All the mountain ranges, the beautiful Conejos River valley, lake , the national forest areas and also the farm land contribute to the beauty of the area. Very personable people running it also. Glad to have enjoyed our two night stay here.
- April (8/5): Quaint little town motel - Enjoyed our stay! Friendly service. Clean and comfy rooms. Good price!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Pre train ride - Nice little hotel to stay in before the train ride. Clean, convenient, friendly. Only things that werent big issues for us are spotty internet, ice machine not working, and limited tv channels. But if you want SUPER water pressure in the shower, big thumbs up!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Only motel in Antonito if you are riding the train. It is serviceable for a night's stay.
- Karon (8/5): - This is a very old hotel that they have done a lot to renovate andupdate. It was so super clean and the reception there was very very pleasant.
- Robert (10/5): Excelent family weekend - Hotel is a little older but the friendliness and flexiblity of the staff made it a great stay. The new flooring is very nice.
- jen (10/5): Great place! - I loved this hotel! Management was wonderful, the rooms were immaculately clean, and you cant beat the price.
- Leslie (2/5): - First time in my life my room was not cleaned Overnight had to go get fresh towels and empty the garbage Water ran all night
- Clayton (6/5): - It is a small town with limited hotels, so it was acceptable for one night.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great stay! - We enjoyed our stay here. Our room was clean. We were walking distance to Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, which was a plus!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Super value... quiet, convenient to Railroad, very good condition, huge room.... older facility now with new managers to build back business
- Hal (8/5): - Very convenient to the train. Clean but simple room. Quiet. Good value.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - One room smelled like sewer (having some kind of sewer issue when we were there) & the window didn't lock. The other room smelled ok and the window locked, but the door didn't latch closed. Clean linens & towels. Staff was nice. Coke machine was out of order. Continental breakfast consisted of giant urn of coffee & store-bought mass-produced pastries.
- Sharon (4/5): Needs lots of work. - The door was difficult to open. Faucet in tub leaked copiously, and the shower was too forceful - water everywhere. Breakfast area very dark, and difficult to get hot water for tea.
Beds and towels were clean. Pillows not the best. Four people could not share a room as the TV was too low on one side of the bed. Need refrigerators in every room, and a microwave would be nice.
Lou, at check-in was nice.
Our room was #106.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Upon checking in......was advised the electric power would be cut off due to the city's utility company needing to make repairs.
Advised it would be during the night and back on possibly by 6am....we left at 7:30am without showering and the power was still off.
Asked for ice from the front desk and was told the ice machine was down.
They could have provided their guests at least a flashlight per room so one could find something after dark w/o feeling like a blind person.
All of the guest should be compensated with some amount of the room price they paid.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Close to the railroad depo, very easy to walk or just drive around the corner to the attraction, the room was very spacious, but does need to be updated.
- Lynne.M.Clos (8/5): - Nice place to stay on the cheap - but be prepared if you arrive after dark: they turn ALL the lights off, including the SIGN!! Make a left (going S thru town) at the road jct at the S end of town to stay on Hwy 285, or you'll wind up on Hwy 17 into the boonies (easy to do in the dark). Then it's right there on the left, across the RR tracks. Sheriff's dept at N end of town very helpful (open at night) if you get lost. Room is basic but clean, all staff extremely nice & friendly, under new ownership so probably upgrading. Recommended if you want clean, cheap place to stay. Free coffee, donuts for sale.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location for taking the steam train, and very friendly staff. However, the bed wasn't very comfortable, and the coffee and rolls were gone by the time we got to the breakfast room, about 9 am.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Convenient to Railroad but hat is it. A cinderblock room with crooked light fixtures, bathroom vents had no covers and any noise outside or in other rooms sounded like it was in your room. Breakfast was a joke with left over store bought cinnamon buns and danishes from the day before. Only one pot of coffee. Nothing else at all. TV was maybe 15” in size and picture was so grainy you couldn’t see it. Building is so old people walking in room above sounds like they will fall through to your room. Advertisement said only 3 rooms left when I searched but there were only maybe 8 cars there at its peak and they have probably 50 rooms. I feel that most rooms are where railroad hands live. Just stay in Alamosa. Worst room I have stayed in and I have stayed in several poor rooms in poor towns. If you want to feel like you are on the lamb from the law, then this is your place.
- Cynthia (4/5): - Price was very cheap and so was the room. Managers were great. Friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very basic accomodarions. However, clean and quiet.
- Dan (8/5): - Very nice staff. Under new management. In the process of remodeling.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean but sheets on bed was stained with something and beds were hard
- Rosemary (2/5): Big disappointment! - Booked through hotels.com. Price was reserved at $55 per night, a resort tax brought it up to $65 per night. This was no resort.
I selected this location for a 2 night stay, as I love historic and historical places to visit when I travel. This place had recently undergone what I would call a very loose or lipstick and rouge appearance improvement which was very poorly done. The bed was comfortable, the table and chairs were nice, but from there it all goes downhill.
The lampshade on the light fixture over the table, was cracked all along the bottom on the inside. If you touched it small pieces of the lining would fall on the table.
The heating and air conditioner were nothing more than a wall unit (like a window unit, not built in to the room) the
unit eas dirty and it was clear no one had used soap to clean it. It was dirty and grimey.
No clock in the room, no phone in the room, the floorboard after new floor was put down was left unfinished, bathroom sink and cabinet were new, but attached to a piece of old uneven on the right side taking any improved appearance of the sink area to a much lower level.
The door that can open up between rooms, is only "locked" very insecurely with a hook and loop, the actual door knob for that door has no lock on it.
The door to my room did not close properly, and had to be slammed to stay shut. Just closing it with a push was not enough to keep it closed.
20 inch regular television (very old model)
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Worst hotel stay ever. Needs new mattress paint toilets fixed, total update
- Ronald (6/5): Gross - The bathtub was gross, it looked like a piece of dog poop, glad I had my swim shoes to wear
- Verified traveler (8/5): - perfect for 1 nights stay. arrived late. key was left for us. really appreciated that.
