• Aliyore (8/5): Definitely good value and good location - We needed an additional nights accommodation in Vienna and as our pension was full we found City Pension near by. Great communication, so easy to check-in and get in yourself. The room was clean and comfortable and the toilet genuinely a water closet (small) but functional. The room was quiet but ear plugs were supplied - we did not need them, nor the air condition. The only thing that’s a little bit of a negative But not a deterrent is the smell in the stairwell from the restaurant - but it’s not an issue in the pension. Good location, good value for money.
• Jamil (10/5): - We really enjoyed staying at the City Pension. Although not like a traditional hotel, everything worked very well. The room just perfect for 2 people. Bathroom was small but very functional with no issues. Room was cleaned everyday. Having a coffee maker and electric kettle was great. There was no iron but that was ok for us. The location was the best part. Most places of interest are within 15 min walk. Great restaurants within a few minutes and of course, great deserts everywhere.

If you need to drop luggage befrore check in or out you need to go 200 meters from hotel to their point. Hotel was clean. Rolms were small but comfortable. we will come back for sure.
• Alexander (2/5): Loud loud loud good luck sleeping! - The room smelled like someone had previously smoked in the room but the worst part was the loud noise that made it nearly impossible to sleep. There is a bar or club below that played loud bass thumping music until 4am that can be heard loudly in the room. Additionally starting at 7am there was more noise that sounded like a train going by for 2 hours. I put white noise to try and drowned out the sounds but both times the sounds were too loud and the white noise didn’t work. I don’t know how anyone staying here gets any sleep.
• Dominika (8/5): - The room we had which was a double small I think was very small, had to hop over luggage’s on the floor. The bathroom was small but doable, I like that they provide more amenities just outside your door in the hallway since there isn’t staff on site 24/7. The location was amazing, just two streets over from the st stephens square and basilica. The door to the hotel while in the building was never actually locked you could pull the handle and walk in so anyone from the street could technically enter. The lock pad to our room was malfunctioning, would not lock from the outside would have to wait five minutes for the flashing to stop. Eventually the second day the cleaner was outside the room and she phoned to have someone fix it while we were gone. The bed was comfy, relatively clean room, some spots on the floor were dirty when we moved the table over. I noticed a ball like thing behind the curtain above the bed attached to the wall that looked like a public camera used in stores I’m not sure what this was. Otherwise decent stay for the price in the area.

There isn’t a staff onsite so keep in mind you can’t just come in early and check bags or ask someone questions at the desk but I had a very early flight in and they were reachable through the app and they worked with me on check in time and were extremely pleasant. I was overjoyed by the room. I expected smaller and a tiny bed but it was spacious with high ceilings very comfy bed and bedding. There is a wonderful cafe across from the hotel really good coffee and pastries. Wonderful location a 4 minute walk to St. Stephen’s. 13 minute walk to Vienna State Opera house.
• LeslieOW (8/5): Great location, tight quarters - The room was accurately described as small, so we weren't caught off guard, but it did make for some challenges, especially getting in and out of bed. That said, the room was well appointed, the bed was very comfortable, the shower had great water pressure, and the location was perfect for our needs. Additionally, the staff was very accommodating when we arrived early after a red-eye flight and asked to leave our luggage; instead, after a brief wait, they made our room available. The room was relatively quiet--perfectly so the first night, a bit less so the second (the restaurant crowd below was a bit raucous). We'd definitely stay here again, given the quality of the lodgings and the location, but would choose a larger room next time.

• petervangalen (10/5): Perfect stay - Perfect location, clean, the shower had great water pressure and relatively spacious. Considering the price, this was the best value for money I’ve seen in a while. You can’t leave luggage but you can at the nearby CAT station and then explore the city.
• athenakitty (10/5): Home away from home in Vienna - I've been staying at Pension City since 1991 when I came to Vienna for a 5 month extended stay after college, and have always come back to stay here ever since. Back then I stayed in a small but perfectly appointed twin room at a price affordable enough for five months. Now I get to bring my partner and kid and friends to stay in some of the larger rooms right in the center of old Vienna. I can't imagine staying anywhere else. The rooms are a great size, the bathrooms small but efficient, great water pressure in the showers, towel warmers for cold mornings, windows that open wide onto the city (something you can't find in the US anymore). The rooms are like Vienna - modern living with an old world heart. A few specifics worth pointing out - - You can't get any closer to the city center for this price. Literally a handful of steps to Stephansplatz and the city center. - The restaurant in the same building - Wrenkh - is one of the loveliest in the city. I've also been coming here since 1991! They've been doing sustainable farm to table cooking since long before it was in fashion. - All the great coffee houses are moments away on foot (Hawelka use maybe 5 mins to walk to). Same for the best schnitzel (Figlmuller and Reinthaler's also 5 mins on foot). - Their management and staff are a DREAM to work with. We communicated via WhatsApp leading up to our stay, which was incredibly helpful as there were two families staying in three rooms, and being able to talk live was so helpful. We were also able to chat during our stay on a few small things that needed attention (one of the toilets was having an issue, which they immediately fixed for us while we were out). - There is a small fridge in each room full of free water which is a lovely touch. Since covid, breakfast does not come with the room - which just means you get to enjoy from a million wonderful spots in the city ;-) In terms of areas for improvement, the only one I'd share is that it would be nice for the twin beds, when joined to become a larger bed for a couple, to be actually joined together so they can't move apart. This is a very small thing to fix and certainly very easy to work around. I have enjoyed three decades in this place and my kid, now a teenager, has just had her first decade of visits. And we're already planning our next trip back ♥️

• PAULHENRYFISCHER (10/5): Wonderful hotel and staff - My wife and I were at this wonderful hotel from about late June to early July and stayed on and off for almost two weeks. Each room has excellent air conditioning and quite comfortable if not somewhat low, beds. They are single beds put together which was fine for the two if us. Americans would have to get used to the small bathroom common in Europe overall and the shower is a tight space but strong water pressure. My only criticism was a lack of storage space. This is the rare pension that doesn’t serve breakfast however the location is amazing. In five minutes you hit Zanoli and Zanoli which opens at 7. Their breakfasts are fabulous. And later in the day go back for dessert. You’re very close to St Stephens Square and the height of tourism but there are so many superb Viennese restaurants all within walking distance. The staff is great very friendly and knowledgeable. For us it was a home away from home. We are likely to return.

It's the higher end part of the city centre and the price was incredibly reasonable. Definitely will return and book a room here.
• anji (8/5): - The thing that I wasnt so thrilled about is front entrance of the hotel..it was dirty and did not look like a hotel. But once i got in to the hotel that was on 2nd or 3rd floor, the room was nice and clean and the receprionist was very friendly and helpful.

The location in the centre of Vienna only a couple of meters away from the St. Stephan’s cathedral and plenty of nice restaurants and bars in walking distance. The room was nicely decorated, with a small seating area and a practical bathroom. Only drawback is that the rooms are a bit small but great price-performance ratio.

At the very center of the city, in the 1st district where all the things for a tourist or just a visitor in the city needs. The second thing is the wonderful hotel staff! So kind and polite and gives you that personal attention that you don't see too much these days. Other than that, the dining room if fairly good with a nice variety and the room and the whole place is generally clean and cozy. The only thing I found a bit irritating is the squeaky floor in the room... As I said, overall, I would totally recommend staying here and want to thank again for the great staff!
• LND (10/5): - Location, location, location! I loved staying here. The building is from the late 19th century and the Pension takes up the whole mezzanine level. My room was really cozy with tall ceilings and an updated, very modern bathroom. I arrived to a plate of fruit, some chocolates, a hand-written note, and a kettle for tea. Charming. The room has a radiator and it had what I believe was an a/c unit on the room as well. The bed was really comfortable. I did ask for an extra duvet since they don't do flat sheets in europe and I tend to get cold when I sleep. The bathroom has a shower with a real door so water wasn't going all over the bathroom! I will say that the shower was about 3'x3' but tall. I had no issues but someone who is more corpulent might find it a bit tight. I would say that's a tiny consideration and would not prevent me from recommending the Pension to friends. The hotel has breakfast available each morning. I highly recommend paying for the breakfast when you book the room. I paid an extra $10/night. Had I waited until I was at the hotel to pay for breakfast, it would have been €16. Great breakfast. Eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, cereal, toast, pastries... My favorite thing about the hotel is that they give you real keys. You walk back to the hotel at the end of the day and unlock the door to a real Viennese house like a real Viennese resident. If I'm ever fortunate enough to be back in Vienna, I will definitely stay there again!

• THtravelling1900 (10/5): Fantastic hospitality and central location - This is a lovely B&B style place right in the centre of Vienna. Only about 15 minutes walk from Wien Mitte train station and round the corner from St Stephan’s cathedral. There are also lots of useful supermarkets in the area including a very posh one just up the street I was particularly pleased with the room. Though small it had everything one could need. There was also a very charming welcome plate with fresh fruit and local confectionary. The bed was comfortable with fine cotton sateen linen. The bathroom was modern and absolutely sparkling clean. I would definitely recommend this as a place to stay.

• MeMock (8/5): Tiny but awesome - My first ever night in Europe. So not having any idea what to expect I was surprised at how small the hotel and room was but the service was great and the room comfortable. I arrived at 8am and left my bag with them and went out for a walk and by 11am my room was ready which was perfect after 22 hours of flying! It was nice and quiet and comfortable. The wifi worked great. Couldn't ask for anything else. Oh and the location was so central it was awesome.

The main staff members were very helpful and provided a lot of assistance to me in my movement around the city. The beds and rooms were comfortable and its location was optimal for my visit. Short walk to the Stephansplatz and Schwedenplatz as well as a short walk to the other districts. It was affordable as well. Thank you for the very great experience!
• Verified traveler (2/5): - Worst experience, not worth the money. Location is ok, but entire hotel is a sinle floor on 3rd floor. Room are very small, bathroon is compact. No room to move or bend when taking showers.
• Verified traveler (4/5): - The good: Location, literally 3 minute walk to Stephansplatz. The bad: Room 1 (Single Room that sleeps 1) was one of the saddest I've stayed in, anywhere. Its "window" was purposely locked because it leads indoors (to a hallway) and the only air comes from an air conditioner that keeps humming and makes random noises, and its indicator light keeps the room just lit (like a nightlight, but blue) enough to be disruptive. The room was across from the reception in a tiny hallway and you will hear all the comings and goings, especially when people returned to their rooms over the weekend. Other small issues mentioned in other reviews that I can overlook. Granted the price was cheap considering the location at only 95 Euro (75 + 20 fee) per night over the weekend in August; if I knew the above, I would not have booked.
• htmcrp (10/5): A perfect location - An important factor to choose a hotel is the location. The Pension City in Vienna has this perfect spot. Located in a side street away from the busy tourist place of St. Stephanplatz and Kärntner Strasse but access to these sights by foot in 5 Minutes or less, the Pension City has this spot. In the Mezzanine of an old house but clean, renovated and with comfortable rooms and modern bathrooms, the pension city is a good choice if you stay in Vienna for a few days. The pension has a small dinning room for breakfast, but not other facilities. This is not a problem because once you step out into the streets, you have a large selection of bars an restaurants in the immediate surroundings. The reception is only occupied for some hours on the morning and the evening. So you might want to plan your arrival accordingly. The staff at the reception is very friendly and helpful.
• mfW1946KO (2/5): Too cheap to refund any amount on incorrect date - I am very disappointed with the service and management at City Pension. When booking online I accidentally selected the wrong day and realized my mistake immediately. So I emailed them within 5 minutes of submitting the reservation. I would not have taken any of their business and City Pension would be at no loss. The front house staff said it would be possible if approved by the managers. Once the managers were asked if a refund would be possible even with a fee, they declined. It would cost me the full cost of the booking. By definition service means "the action of helping or doing work for someone." I see no actions of anyone helping me at this hotel. If I could rate zero stars I would.

• MarkS325 (4/5): Keep walking................. - I would highly recommend that you avoid staying at this Pension/Hotel. The "Hotel" is on one floor in a building with other activities. The space itself is very old and somewhat shocking in how run down it is. The entire space of the rooms are very old and appear haven't been changed it many years. The worst part is that when you walk in your space the creaking floor is very loud and you can hear it in the other rooms on the floor. So if you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night everyone on the floor can hear you. We also had an issue with a smell of sewer which they noted was due to the age of the building. They brought in some spray to make it somewhat manageable. We travel every year and often in Europe and tend to stay in middle of the road locations/spaces and our expectations are not cheap nor rich and stay in the middle for price and location. What is also shocking is that they have no staff from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.. The only good thing that we had was the great service by every person that worked there.

• Carla (8/5): - The hotel was very nice and well-presented but our room was too hot (even in the middle of winter with the radiator turned off !) as it was located next to the central boiler system. It was also quite noisy with a lot of hoovering going on the the early evenings and various creaking and dripping noises during the night. The breakfast was good and the staff very friendly. The location is fantastic.

• Jackson (6/5): A Pension on a budget - We did not expect the rooms to be as small as they were, nor for the hotel to be positioned on one a floor of a larger building. The breakfast was not amazing, and the service seemed sparse. Our room was very small and cluttered. However, the location is fantastic and you can't beat a cheap room in Vienna!

• longtallsally (8/5): - Great central location. The only complaint was the squeaky floorboards in the corridor and rooms and we were woken up at 6am by people moving around. I understand it is an old building but something must be able to be done to rectify this.

• Flora (10/5): - We stayed here for three nights and everything was good. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are a decent size. The bathrooms are quite small so be prepared and in our room, it was literally right next to the bed. However, it was quiet, safe, and the location is excellent. We had the breakfast and there was a good selection (including a few hot items) so I would recommend it. I research extensively for places to stay and I think City Pension is good value for what you get.
• Nanako (10/5): Very cozy and comfortable place near St Stephans - Great location near St Stephan's cathedral. Staff is very pleasant. The room was not very large (particularly the bathroom) but it was cozy and comfortable and most important, quiet! Breakfast was very good. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others. The wifi actually worked well too!

• Norman (8/5): Wish there was a window - City Pension is a very nice place except that i was given room 1 - no window practically speaking. But overall, it is good especially location - very close to St Stephen's and the Underground train. Even going to the airport is easy with the Underground. The staff are nice and very helpful too.

• Stephen (10/5): - Very close - one turn of a city bliock than another )like 150 metres) to right in front of St Stephen's Cathedral, and also its underground station. Unbelievable convenience. I had a single bed in the smallest room. It was compact, well-designed (especially the availability of electrical outlets in the right places), clean, and efficient. The hotel also has "regular" rooms with queen beds, and larger suites that will sleep a family of four if a sofabed is used, and an additional bed is brought in. The hotel occupies a floor - called "M" for mezzanine, while it really isn't one, at least in the US - in a multi-use building. There is a restaurant downstairs, and offices on other floors. Breakfast, consisting of eggs, sausages, bacon, fruits, cereals, yogurt and the like, and of course a variety of automated coffee drinks, is served in a small dining room with meticulously clean cutlery and dishes. Very nice. I'd stay there again.

Very well managed with friendly, polite and helpful staff who always made time for our questions and inquiries. We were there on the hottest day possible and while there was no AC the building itself stayed relatively cool and the fan kept it manageable. I Would definitely stay there again considering the above and great value for the price. Mw
• Zaki (10/5): - Got a single room. Small but cozy room. Nice toilet, towel and face towel provided, and floor mat too. Small note and sweets given on table was a nice personal touch. Met up to 3 receptionists - all very friendly ladies whom were very helpful, cheerful. They also manage the kitchen for paid breakfast. Needless to say, location is awesome. 3 minutes walk to Stephensplatz, the main cathedral, but not noisy location. Quite a good choice.
• Tracey (10/5): Excellent location - Fantastic location just around the corner from St Stephens Cathedral. Easy reach to the metro, shops and restaurants. The hotel was spotless and provided a great breakfast with something for everyone. We chose a small double room and it was small but adequate for a 4 day break. Room was spotless and lovely shower room. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Excellent place to stay.
