- doggiec302 (6/5): Full disclosure please - Being a historic property I knew the rooms would be small, but they were very nicely appointed. I had the closest room to the bar (#107) which was noisy until the bar closed. Be prepared to pay for parking in the lot next to the hotel. Also be prepared for a completely virtual experience, there's no front desk or staff on premises except the bartender. You have to check yourself in by uploading a photo ID and a selfie and use your phone to get in the front door and the room. Of course this necessitates taking your phone if you leave the hotel, which I don't like to do if going out to eat, etc. All this should be disclosed up front, I wouldn't have chosen this place if it was. Finally, any feedback or dialogue with them is AI crafted smarm in response.
- Martin (8/5): Dark, moody and quirky - Once we worked out how to actually get into the hotel, we loved it. The lack of any staff and it being completely digital is both good and bad. That said, it is a superb place with a quirky, boutique feel - even if some of the furnishings are a little dangerous.
- Maria (4/5): - Room & hotel were clean, but there is no staff on site to help with anything. You have to text the AI Concierge to get anything. Parking is not included (extra $10.50/day), no table or chair to sit at, shower is extremely small, bar is too close to the rooms, so very noisy at night. The room was very expensive and not worth the price - there are no amenities to make it worth what we paid. Would never stay here again.

I'm very much a hotel "snob" if you will, very particular and analytical and while there are a few things i would change, overall it's a very impressive, small hotel with a comfortable, clean, room with thoughtful in room amenities. I would stay here again and I would recommend this property. FYI, it took maybe 5 or 6 attempts to check in, for some reason it kept giving me an error code related to storage but it wasn't my storage on my phone it was an error from the site. Finally it suddenly worked.
- 694starn (10/5): Perfectly as advertised in the photos. Fun spot! - WE loved our 2nd floor room. The pictures were exactly a match to what we had. Beautiful bathroom. Excellent linens. Loads of space in our 2 queen Cattlemens room. Counter top with min freg/freezer, coffee & tea supplies, microwave, and bag of ice supplied. Super working AC up high on the wall that is quiet but puts a tad of a white noise buffer that helps me sleep. BUT some in our group had chosen 1st floor rooms, b/c there are only stairs to get to the 2nd floor. Their rooms were on the tight and small side. In the bathrooms their knees hit the wall if on the potty or they had very limited space getting around the king size bed. So REALLY look at the photos when you reserve a room. We had the digital check-in and experienced no problems. But the room does have a key fob for use left in your room. That was more convenient. There is a nice public lot right beside the hotel that you can use for 24 hour parking - $10 digital check-in was no problem. All the street parking we saw had time limits. We did walk to all our meals while there within a block or 2 with plenty of good choices.
- Verified traveler (6/5): A great idea, poorly executed - We specifically chose Hotel Melrose as I really wanted to patronise a local business that Grand Jct desperately needs - unfortunately, Hotel Melrose misses the mark. There is a lot made of the technology-enabled stay - the benefits to the hotel are clear - no front desk costs, no mid-stay housekeeping, etc., but I very much struggled to see how the guest benefitted. There was a charge for an early check-in, which is, frankly, outrageous - a cost for a late check-out is justified, maybe you have extra housekeeping costs, etc. But $50 for an early check-in is pure greed. Add to that that the “keyless entry” just requires you to use your phone, constantly - lugging suitcases up stairs while you’re trying to unlock multiple doors on a phone is really awkward. Again, I can see how the hotel benefits but it’s really not an enjoyable arrival for the guests at all. The final straw was the envelope for a housekeeping tip… when you don’t get any housekeeping service during your stay. Hotel Melrose could be amazing but unfortunately they seem a bit too focused on optimising their profit at the expense of the guest, and it shows.

I don’t believe that these people are spending $275 a night to stay here. I regret believing the advertisement that this is the best hotel in Grand Junction.

- Freedom676660 (2/5): Horrendous customer service. - Hands-down, the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had in any consumer arena. And that’s a low bar. I can’t tell you about the hotel or the rooms because we never made it in. After corresponding with the reservation agent, who was kind enough to let me shift my reservation forward a date, despite not having to, I told them I was going to get to the hotel at 1 o’clock in the morning. I arrived after a 16 Hour drive with my son. Upon arriving at the hotel, the virtual check-in did not allow me to enter the property. There was no one to call and no support to be had. In fact, the virtual assistant cutely said we’re resting to be ready for tomorrow. We were forced to call other hotels and found one after we tried 7. When I called to discuss compensation for this extremely unfortunate situation, I was told they would be happy to fully refund my stay. I thought that was comical, as why would I ever pay for a hotel room that I couldn’t get into which was their fault entirely (I have the sort of apology text)? I was told a manager would call me, and while I have a few missed calls no message was ever left. At the very least I expected they would’ve paid for my other hotel. Again absolutely horrible non-apologetic experience. Buyer beware.

I could barely turn around in the shower and only had a rain shower head for the water which was not acceptable to my wife. The lobby bar was during our stay. Overpriced for the service.
- Amber (8/5): - Really loved this boutique hotel, apart from the heavy perfume of the room. The smell was overwhelming. However, in terms of interior design, they did pay a great deal of attention to the little details, providing a very posh environment. But keep in mind two things: it’s a very small hotel and we had a very small room, with dark paint colors making it feel even smaller; and then there is a bar practically right outside of the rooms, but thankfully that shuts down at 9pm. Otherwise the sound would be as overwhelming as the smells. But it was very clean and thoughtful. Not a bad experience at all. Would recommend, especially to extroverted women in their late 30s.
- Jodi (8/5): Perfect couple’s getaway - It’s all powered by phone & text, no receptionist which was actually kind of nice! And doesn’t make you download an app like other no contact hotels. Make sure you have an ID because it will request a picture of your ID and a selfie. Our only issue was there were ZERO tables to put bags, hygiene bags in bathroom, or food on. Could use a thin table under the tv. Great details, well painted and decorated, very kitschy, lowkey hipster place. The bar downstairs with the pretentious hipster bartender and a few locals really topped it off for us 😂 and brought some life to the otherwise human-less establishment.

- david (8/5): A hip alternative hotel solution in downtown GJ - I've impressed how much downtown Grand Junction has improved since I started visiting as a kid. The street art can be impressive. I'm also glad to see this hip hotel be a part of the evolution of the downtown and the bar is fun after a long day. I visited the hotel while taking care of sick relative at a nearby hospital. I'm not a fan of digital check-In but the process was smooth and they responded right away. My issue is acoustics (I'm sure this has been written before) and the bar should figure out a way to make an air space/vestibule from the hotel corridor. Also I think the rooms should be serviced each night of your stay.
- Jennifer (10/5): Perfect! - Absolutely wonderful stay at the Melrose! This hotel has been beautifully renovated and the location is fantastic for walking downtown to shops and restaurants. The beds are extremely comfortable and the shower was great. The Melrose Spirit Co. is hands down one of the best cocktail bars in town. We stopped in every night of our stay and tried something new and everything was delicious! Plus it just has a great vibe. We come to GJ several times a year and this will definitely be our go to place to stay from now on!

The bathroom was impossible to fix your hair and put make up on. The sink didn’t have a ledge to set your items on. I ended up using the window ledge. The beds weren’t very comfortable. We didn’t go to the cocktail bar, but it looked very nice.
- 396eugenez (10/5): Awesome place to stay. - You can tell someone had a good eye for the small details when designing this hotel. It's geared towards adults and had a unique flare to it. I went during the week so it was quiet, a little too quiet honestly. The hallway had a loud echo so I felt I had to tip top to the room as to not wake everyone. A little carpet runner in the hallway would do Wonders Other than that I WILL most definitely come back again.

I called the hotel directly and they sorted it out for us. Hotel is super cute with a lot of special touches like Bluetooth speakers, phone chargers and earplugs. Beds are very comfortable. The color scheme and furnishings made it a wonderful place to stay. It’s close the the Grand Junction downtown area which is an additional plus.

I’m so happy I found this charming Hotel while looking for a unique place to stay. The remodeling of this Historic Hotel is amazing. The staff so kind and you can’t beat the location. The restoration of the historic hotel preserved its charm while integrating modern amenities - a rarity in boutique hotels and often hard to find even in ultra-luxury accommodations. There’s a strong attention to detail, and every aspect of my stay was exceptional. Theres plenty to explore in town and nearby in Palasade, CO - a charming winery town with so many hidden gems. - Erica (10/5): Do it! - I have traveled the world and have experienced hundreds of hotels, the Hotel Melrose is my favorite of all of them. Cozy, moody, and comfortable, I love this place. Craft cocktails at the bar are a great way to unwind from traveling, and the staff is 10/10. I hope to visit for a third time soon.
- Kristen (10/5): - The property is gorgeous and clean. Very nice area and walkable to a lot of bistro, coffee, houses, cafés, pubs in the main street area. Very quaint area. Super simple check in and check out. We highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there again.
- mellovestoexplore (10/5): Love the Hotel Melrose - My husband and I stayed at The Hotel Melrose to celebrate our anniversary. We had a lovely stay, I am a recent graduate who studied Interior Design, who loves old architecture, and history. I loved all the attention to details, and moods of each room, including the bathrooms. We had a lovely time in the Spirit Room, the Bartenders were charming and friendly. I drank a delicious non-alcholic drink, and my husband enjoyed a nice ol fashion whiskey. I can't wait to stay again, and hopefully get a different style room.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Vacation stay - The room looked newly decorated, was spotlessly clean and had a very comfortable bed. However, it was very dark and you couldn’t even open the blinds as it was overlooked by a car park. The hotel has no staff on site and the experience of downloading an entry key and effectively doing everything for yourself is not something I would do again. I expect to have some level of service at a hotel, it just seems so impersonal. I would avoid this kind of hotel experience again.
- R845QJmichaelk (4/5): Crappy but beautiful - Do not let the pictures or the “high tech” approach fool you. Unless you want to attend a high price frat party this is not your place. They should have split the price of our room with all of their bar patrons. We checked in and went for dinner. By the time we returned from dinner, showered and started settling in the party in the bar had escalated to the point it would fit in the movie Animal House. The hotel manager did respond to my comment, but that response was initially to say the bar closes at 9 it should quiet down after that. A different manager (I assume) followed up with an offer to put us in a different room, but that was 20 minutes until 9, so I replied that moving at that point was more trouble than it was worth with the bar closing in twenty minutes. I was then informed last call was 9, not bar closing, and the offer to move us to a different room was renewed. We were in our pajamas in bed having been told bar closing was 9. So many things wrong with this. Why do you have a $300+ room that shares a wall with a bar that is not even hotel patrons only? If you had other rooms available why we were put in the bar room? And, while they did offer to move us, this was in effect offering to further inconvenience us as the solution for the hotel choosing to put its bar patrons’ comfort higher priority than our’s when we booked. I do not do reviews typically because doing so just adds wasting my time to the original poor service or other reason for my dissatisfaction, but melrose was so misrepresented and responded so poorly that I am taking the time. The room was nice. Very clean. This aspect of the property is not misrepresented in their marketing. It is a beautiful property, but unless you’re looking for a high priced frat party at a property that will not make any meaningful effort to address its failure to live up to its booking stay somewhere else.

- Scott (6/5): - Room 107, the street light shines perfectly through the tiny crack around the window shade directly into the eye of the person sleeping on the left side of the bed. Luckily there was a long decorative pillow that could be stood in the window to block the light. Also the little green light on the ceiling is pretty annoying. And the noise from the bar is loud enough to require earplugs. Otherwise the room was spectacular. Very clean and comfy. The giant mirror was fun.

- christine6369 (10/5): The renovation of this historic gem was done so well !! - This was our second stay in less than a month . We love this place . The proximity to downtown and all it has to offer can’t be beat . The rooms are done beautifully with so many upscale touches … the lounge is icing on the cake !! Will definitely stay again .

- Charles (2/5): - Worst hotel I ever booked. No staff. Awkward entry system to hotel and room. Gothic dark. Depressing, horrible paint scheme, no chair to sit in, no water glasses no lobby. Web site wants tip for staff. There is no staff!! Homeless drug addicts hanging around outside. Nightmare.

- Verified traveler (2/5): Do not stay here - The staff was incompetent. It is a "key-less" hotel so good luck getting anything you need. The last day the "digital key" ended the stay early and no one answered my calls.

- Deborah (8/5): - We loved the decor of this stylish boutique hotel. However, we struggled with the digital check in - a mixture of user error and a system they admitted wasn’t Expedia-friendly when two-rooms are booked together. Thankfully a manager met us at the property, gave us real keys (with a warning that we’d be charged $50 if we lost them) and free cocktails as compensation for the stress. Probably not a good bet for anyone who isn’t technically adept.

- arlenes474 (10/5): Anniversary Retreat - The Hotel Melrose is beautiful! We had such a great time. The rooms feel luxurious and the common areas are spectacular. The social hour in the bar was a hit. Gavin is an exceptional mixologist. The attention to detail is to be commended. Great experience.
- 714hillaryw (10/5): Great experience! - I stayed at the beautifully renovated Hotel Melrose for a work trip recently and it did not disappoint. The hotel uses a fully digital concierge and the technology for room keys is efficient and overall a new fun way to check into a hotel! The hotel itself is beautifully done and in a great walking location to all of the restaurants and coffee shops downtown! The rooms are well-appointed and very clean! Additionally, I had the pleasure of indulging in the delights of the Melrose Spirit CO during its open hours, and I must say, the drinks are phenomenal as well as the staff! Highly recommend The Hotel Melrose for your next stay and am looking forward to returning in warmer months to utilize the outdoor seating area and fire pits!
