Guest Reviews
- Mummery (9/5): Superb - Good communication from staff
Lovely room and location
Easy to book, find and acces the room There isn't a kitchen tap in the kitchen area
I think there could have been bottles of water in the fridge as the only water source is in the bathroom.
- Bill (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nshuti (10/5): Exceptional - The facilities were clean and well-maintained. The owner was communicative and available when needed. Access to the facility was straightforward and guidance was provided. If you need a relaxing and calm area for your stay, I would recommend "The Anchor".
- Cassimo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Annalisa (10/5): Wonderful getaway in nature - This place is amazing for the moment you arrive. It has everything you need for a wonderful stay. That we were only able to stay one night - since that is what our travel plans allowed.
- Edward (10/5): Exceptional - One of the best places I have stayed in a long time. If your in the area stay here if possible. Nothing to dislike.
- India (8/5): Very good - Beautiful, peaceful location Blackout blinds/curtains would be good and the garden could do with a tidy :)
- Julie (10/5): Comfortable, pretty location. - Tastefully decorated, nice and comfortable. Everything we needed for our stay. The Countryside suite was lovely, bed very comfortable. Can honestly say there was nothing we didn’t like.
- Sandra (10/5): Excellent, romantic get a way in a quiet location easy access to Cambridge and Ely. - This is self catering. A superb communal kitchen is available to guests as was excellent coffee, tea & milk in our room. Truly worth a visit a quiet location with easy access to local pub which sells hot meals, and a superb Indian restaurant. Chinese Fish & chips also on offer. This is our second visit and will be booking again. Comfortable bed, bedding and Lots of freebies in the bathroom all of which are of a high quality. Host charming and eager to assist Nothing Thank You

- George (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional - A superbly equipped accommodation, very warm and comfortable. Thank you 😊 Honestly nothing that deserves any criticism.
- Roland (9/5): Superb - Location a bit remote but perfect for where I had to go. Only self check-in, I never saw anyone. Nice, modern and big kitchen to cater yourself.
- Nichole (10/5): Cozy, secluded, and quiet country get-away - The suites were nicely finished, warm, and comfortable. The location directly beside the river made for beautiful views and walks right out the front door. The shared kitchen was fully equipped and a lovely place to enjoy a meal and a few drinks. The security system is excellent, plenty of parking. The staff were welcoming and proactive. No restaurants or pubs within walking distance - you need a car to get into town as the property is located on a country road that is poorly lit. The sign is not lit and there is no signage on the building itself so we nearly missed it.
- Tracy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (10/5): The peaceful anchor - The setting is so peaceful and beautiful. The accommodation was very clean, comfortable, and well equipped. We slept well, woke refreshed, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner was communicative and willing to meet our every need even though they were abroad at the time. We would definitely recommend the anchor to anyone. Nothing
- Brett (10/5): What a great place - Of the hundreds of places I've stayed over the years, this has to be the best ever. A great mix of convenience, comfort and character. There is just nothing negative to really come up with.
- Joseph (10/5): Excellent spacious top quality property. - The amount of space in the suite was great- lounge, bathroom and separate bedroom. Large modern shared fitted kitchen. The decor throughout was excellent and the communication from the owner was timely and helpful. Beautiful setting by the river, we will definitely be back when we return to the area.
- Umeela (9/5): Superb - Location was lovely. Place itself was very nice and loved the security to get in. Facilities inside were great. Beautiful view from our room. Its a shame we did not realise that there was nowhere on site to eat but there is a shop locally and the facilities at place were excellent.
- Wim (10/5): Just perfect - Very tasteful; beautiful location, well organised, quiet, convenient for Ely/Cambridge
- Steve (7/5): Good - The cottage is idyllic, set in the country overlooking the river. We had the River Side Suite which was perfect. It has a sitting room, a bathroom with bath and shower and a double bedroom. We couldn't find any instructions to operate the heating and it was quite a cool evening. We sat watching TV in our coats.
Prospective bookers should be aware that prior to arriving they will receive an email from the owners. This covers the access to the cottage which is straight forward. It also states that if the owner deems that you have damaged the property in anyway ,and this includes communal areas, they will decide how much the damage will cost to repair and will take it out of your bank account and they can do this anytime within three weeks after you have left the property.
It also states that if the owners think you have taken anything from the property they will report you to the police no doubt as a common thief.
Finding somewhere to eat was not easy as the cottage is set in the country. The local pub, The Chequers, was closed on the Thursday we were there.. The only place we could find to eat was either an Indian take away or a fish and chip shop. Bearing in mind that both these options have a certain aroma ,we actually ate our take away sat in the car rather than take them back to the cottage and get charged for fumigating the property.
- Claire (10/5): Fantastic would definitely stay again - Really comfortable, clean, well presented .. just excellent Nothing
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - Love this place
- Graham (9/5): Superb -
- Linda (9/5): Superb -
- Tom (10/5): Exceptional - Lonvely location, beautfiul walks from the front door
- Mark (10/5): Outstanding property and location - Everything about this place was excellent but the comfort of the bed needs a special mention as does the good size bath. Nothing at all
- Flying-kiwi (10/5): Exceptional - Modern accommodation within an old Inn.
Spacious, quiet, very well equipped, responsive remote support.
Comfy beds. Great shower. Awesome fully kitted out shared kitchen.
The Anchor far exceeded my expectations. It will be my go to place to stay in the area. I liked everything but would like to suggest a food waste/composter bin and a clothes line for drying laundry.
The front door doesn't close easily due to weather related swelling.
Other guests left the front door unsecured and did not put away dishes after use - not a big deal but it would be nice if others were more mindful.
- Graeme (10/5): A gem, in many ways we would like to keep it a secret. - Fabulous room, great views, superb facilities, a kitchen to make meals, great bathroom, a garden for table tennis. Just great. N/A
- Chris (9/5): An excellent place to stay - The location is great, very peaceful and has a relaxing atmosphere. The facilities are excellent and can't be faulted. The owner is very attentive and helpful and tries to make your stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible. I can't think of anything negative to say about the anchor or it's owners.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely love this place, very quiet by the river but lots of amenities and modern rooms in an old building. When not outside theres Netflix on tv and free wifi is great, along with the garden and the kitchen
- Charlotte (4/5): Although clean and simple accommodation it was made uncomfortable by shouting and lack of decent bedding- I wouldn’t rec - Clean
Staff communication was good on arrival Noisy shouting and yelling in the hall way and room across from me
No coffee facilities in the room
Bedding very minimal
- Leeanne (10/5): Our stay at the anchor was perfect for us. We needed a good night sleep in a quiet hotel and that's exactly what we - It was quiet and very clean.
- Rajalakshmi (9/5): Very nice and tranquil. Hostess was very prompt and responsive via Whatsapp. Even gave us suggestions on where to have d - Lovely location. Easy check in and out. Very clear, detailed instructions. Room was very nice. Common kitchen was very well equipped. Nothing, really. Could have had more shower gel.
- Paul (9/5): Nice accommodation in a place where we wanted to stay. - Nice quiet location. Easy check in. Plenty of space. Very comfortable with separate lounge. Fresh milk in room would be nice as would maybe a breakfast option - or book a breakfast pack?
- Carl-eric (10/5): Beautiful location. - Beautiful location, great views.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tom (9/5): Superb -
- Jacquiwilkinson (10/5): What a gem! - What a gem of a place. Accommodation is excellent. Everything you could need is provided and more that you didn't realise you needed!
Smashing views from inside and out. I would definitely book again.
- Natalie (10/5): the best placed weve stayed in! Beautiful perfect relaxing - The room was absolutely perfect. Had everything you needed, was clean, tidy, spacious yet cosy. The decor was classy and not cheap like hotels. The actual bungalow is the cutest. There's a full kitchen with literally everything you could possibly need and more. Gorgeous little back garden for the kids and picnic benches all around. Backed right onto the river in such a relaxing quiet location. We loved it here
