Guest Reviews
- wong (8/5): Experience stay at Meldrum - Location is ok, simple stay. However if can fixed up behind toilet doors hooks will be easy for hung up clothing / a few more hangers and better Mug for hot water
- Verified traveler (6/5): - staff is helpful to assist in room-changing as the initial room situated at the corner of the building next to the bar. a bit run-down but overall still acceptable based on the rate and location we paid.
- Nut (8/5): - Easy access to City Square, Railway station and CIQ
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay - Early book in allowed nice hotel, nice rooms
Reasonable price Worth it
- shaon (10/5): Good Deal - Great stay reasonable price
- Manuel (6/5): Pleasant enough - Excellent location near outdoor food courts and one block from canal. Easy walking to both shopping centers and good Indian food. Room was ample, shower had hot water, and bed was comfortable. Staff was welcoming and helpful.
- Manuel C (8/5): - Excellent location with several eating places nearby. Staff was pleasant and helpful. The hotel is getting old but everything still worked howbeit noisily (toilet). Excellent enclosed shower with hot water was much appreciated. Comfy bed and cleanliness were also present. We stayed 4 nights in this good value for money place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel in the city center, close to the shoppingmalls..
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Many comfortable stays at Meldrum, since 2012, the people unfailingly pleasant, even the old Ahma most days. Wifi perhaps somewhat dicey.
- Verified traveler (6/5): you get what you pay for. - needs urgent renovation as the location is good.
- Mitsu (10/5): Nice hotel - Nice location, clean room .
- Perasath (10/5): Peace - Amazing and the city view is wooooow
- Angie (6/5): Meldrum hotel-can be better - Room is spacious for standard
But Not enough space for hanging
Should have some shelving for placing the clothes
Unlikely to go again
- Didier (8/5): - asked for city view but was not given. Was given a smaller room. even showed my Priority Meldrum member card but was not entertained
- wong (8/5): Staff is ok , nothing much to demand - Facing coffee shop with lot of food , but is a prostitution area.
- Anna (8/5): Value for money. Nice room - Easy access to hotel and major shopping centre. Friendly staff.
- Lee (2/5): Average - The bed is too Soft almost broken cannot sleep at all not comfortable
- wong (6/5): Book Non Smoking Room end up need to top up - We paid higher price to book a Non Smoking room for 2 nights stay from Hotel.com. when we arrived the hotel , staff told us Non smoking all not available , only left Smoking Room, and if we want to have None Smoking Room, we need to add another RM 9.00. so no choice we have to do so and paid for 1 day stay for the next day with Non Smoking Room when is available.
- ness (8/5): fantastic - the hotel is accessible to mall just 5 minutes walk and all the cafeteria is just outside the hotel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It looks the room is a storeroom. Airconditioner was not working. It made me uncomfortable even in a short stay.
- Verified traveler (4/5): 1 day stay at Meldrum Hotel - The uncle who checked us in wasn't very friendly and the flooring of the room felt very sticky.
The air conditioning did not seems to be working very well, felt stuffy for the whole night and the pillows are super flat.
Seems the room is above the coffee shop, can vividly hear people talking.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not recommended. - Waahhh.what a room.i mean what do you expect?cheap price=bad/low quality.
The room was smell so bad. There's a cockroach and mosquitoes. Not comfortable to rest and sleep with. The staff in the information desk is friendly. Definitely i will not recommend this to my friends and collegues.
What a terrible experience....
- Richard (8/5): - can improve on wifi and better bath towel quality
- Chu (4/5): - Checked into a room without WC. Requested for a change and pay the difference was declined. I was told to pay for the full amount for another room with WC. Mosquitoes were found in the room.
- CC (4/5): Convenient location - Disappointed with the check in. We booked two superior rooms (twin beds) but were given only one room upon arrival. Took a long while for the receptionist to check & we were given another room(double bed) upon coming back later. This room was mosquitoes infested!
- Thai (6/5): Budget hotel with good location - The hotel have a nice location as it nearby shopping mall and a lot of restaurants around. The staff at the hotel was rude when he informed us that the room is not ready yet even though it was after check in time (2:00 pm). He could have inform us in a professional way. Besides that, the room was alright even though a bit run down and have smoke smell when the room is on non smoking floor. The toilet was alright but quite dirty though and the hot water not hot enough. Overall, the hotel is alright if you want to save money on your stay.
- Zynoreen (6/5): - close to JB City Square. no problem in finding place to eat. there are alot of restaurants. not to forget, there is also Uptown Night Market.
- LL (4/5): Dirty & noisy hotel - Location is ok but dirty with cockroach and noisy from water drip & food stalls downstair.
- ali (8/5): nice hotel - very nice hotel. recommended to choose this hotel. staff very friendly. good place, quite and pleasing. near to shopping complex and bazaar karat. safe to park my motorcycle
- Joshua (10/5): Good hotel for a short stay - Hotel was good. Near to shopping malls Hotel was old but room looks quite trendy. The hotel also has dormitary style for backpackers which is relatively cheap. Surrounding is very noisy even after midnite.
- HudZach (6/5): value for money - very affordable hotel. .near to shops. .clean & safe environment. .
- TAN (4/5): - Check-in was very slow, and bed in room are old and uncomfortable. Upon switching on the lights, cockroaches was crawling all over the place! Was assigned a room on the 1st floor, and mosquitoes came in, in the middle of the night from the bathroom ventilator!
- Tran The Phung (8/5): Happy to travel - It is a good hotel for short visits.
- Seio (4/5): - The hotel room air-con not good,not cool..
- Loh (4/5): Pest Haven - Rm full of baby cockroaches
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The TV connection is not good and it keeps on disconnected. The hotel is cheap but don't think i will come back again.
- Kelvin (4/5): - Not really a happy stay for 3days2nights. Can't believe the hotel only have 1 hair dryer and need to pay deposit to use it. Overall the room is clean. The bed is not really that comfortable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Match your pockets if not choosy... - Hotel staff were helpful and approachable, toilet was excellent, overall worthy for value.stay 9 days later friends also stay 9 days....
- Mohamed Razak (6/5): One day encounter - Hotel reception not updated dat I had paid full online n yet asked for room rates upon check in
- Dan (6/5): Hotel is near to City Square. - Hotel is near to City Square. Many eating place around the hotel area.
- Verified traveler (2/5): For Cheap Get Away With A "Shared Toilet" - All in all, you need to read the fine print well in order not to book the wrong one because I got a "shared toilet" experience and I have to pay more to have my own private toilet....
- garrett (6/5): - Toilet is dirty
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean and convenient in the centre of JB - We only stayed here for one night and had a pleasant stay. Bed was very comfortable, room was clean and quiet despite the hotel being on a busy street, and WiFi was good. It was very easy to get to and from the airport as the hotel is centrally located. Quick check-in too. The only problem was that the shared bathrooms were full of mosquitos. Otherwise, it's a good place to stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): the price is rugt - If were not trying any new hotels were always staying at meldrum. Its value for your money with alot of good food nearby and city square mall a stone throw away.
- mei (6/5): Simple hotel, great location - Booked superior and deluxe rooms (queen n single beds). Superior room really small. Bath room very small too, tiles size 2.5 x 3 1/3. The complimentary shampoo and bath soap really tiny, shorter than the height of the tap. Both rooms no safe box, mini fridge, hair dryer and cupboard. The bed, so soft that we can feel that we sitting on the plank when we sat on the edge of the bed! 3rd and 4th floor supposed no smoking rooms but superior room at 3rd floor has the cigarette smell and deluxe room at 4th floor found ash tray. The plus point is that coffee shops that sell local food till late night. we enjoyed supper and breakfast with Many of their local ppl. So no worries about safety. Has 7-eleven and barber shops just next to the hotel. At night can see mobile foot reflex. Convenient.
- Marek (8/5): GET THE FIRST TASTE OF ASIA - If you want to learn what contemporary Asia looks like, you will not chose Singapore for your fist lesson - it is too much like any developed Western country: visiting Singapore gives you as much 'feel' of Asia, as going to an Asian ... restaurant anywhere in Sydney, Berlin or New York. However, just cross the Woodlands Customs Checkpoint in Singapore and the real Asia greets or... hits you: crowd, noise, smells, colors. A short bus ride then a short walk ( if you are game enough) from the Johor Bahru CIQ ( I presume going by taxi would take significantly longer taking into account the traffic gridlocks all around) and the Meldrum Hotel offers you a welcome 'shelter' : Western interior amidst totally Eastern surrounds. From that somewhat 'familiar' base - nice clean room, air conditioning, bathroom with shower, TV, internet, English speaking staff, you can start 'exploring' Asia that starts literally right outside the hotel's door - the streets full of 'exotic' shops, food stalls and restaurants, temples, small businesses. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? You can dash into a nearby Western style shopping complex for a coffee and cake, and then back into the hustle and bustle of the Old Johor city. Allow a day or two, and you will grow in courage to venture further and further from the hotel, you will come tohave a cold beer from a street vendor, or taste a delicious meal at an Indian restaurant. That will be your first taste of real Asia. Enjoy!
- William (6/5): Noisy guests in hotel - Hotel OK for price and location, nr lots of good on-the-road street eateries. But wifi is very patchy. And hotel is so noisy. Not from outside but from the guests. Noisy people in the corridors from midnight till about 3 am coming n going. So much noise
- Verified traveler (6/5): Decent for a cheap getaway. - Room was decent however the floor was infested with people's hair. No carpet in the room. The bed and toilet was decent enough for a short getaway. Honestly its quite worth the price. You get what you paid for.
- Sudhir (6/5): convenient hotel near JB Singapore causeway - Overall Friendly staff, good air -con in room , wi - fi is okay, good location, good cleaners and
laundry service is efficient. The pricing of the rooms in the hotel is slightly on the high side as there are some competitors offering slightly cheaper prices nearby.
Johor Bahru is now the second largest city in Malaysia and expanding rapidly. It is the gateway to Malaysia from Singapore. It is a shopping and eating paradise.
This hotel is conveniently located near City Square Shopping Centre, the Immigration and Customs checkpoint, near banks, businesses.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Overall pleasant - Overall quite ok.
