Guest Reviews
- 66Frank1982 (10/5): Friendly good hotel - We booked this hotel so we had an easy walk to the Santorini ferry port. The hotel seems to imply that there is parking but parking throughout Heraklion is a nightmare.
- j_donne (10/5): Recommended - We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-day stay. The room was spacious and clean. The staff were all very friendly. The breakfast was delicious. The hotel is a 10-minute walk from the city centre, which was very convenient. All in all, we would definitely stay here again!
- 1958Duncan (4/5): ONE APPALLING ROOM, ONE GOOD ROOM - Arrived late evening with a pre booked room that had a balcony and city view. Immediately discovered it had neither. The "balcony" was a bricked up internal corridor with fully enclosed windows and iron bars across the windows for security and full curtains for privacy (see photos). No view. No natural light in room.
The night staff were fully aware of this and were sympathetic and apologised but said we needed to speak to someone next day about changing room. Next morning we were given a change of room. No apology however, just told we had booked the room and there was no interest when we showed the booking that promised a balcony and city view. The new room was good.
Would stay here again is we were guaranteed not to be in a room similar to the first one. IF YOU BOOK HERE INSIST YOU ARE NOT PUT IN ROOMS 111 OR 112.
- cathie68 (10/5): Fabulous hotel - I only ended up in Heraklion because of circumstances beyond my control BUT I could not have chosen a better hotel. Very clean and comfortable it is within easy walking distance of the city centre, Venetian walls, port, bus station and city buses.
But the best thing about this hotel is the lovely staff who couldn’t do enough for me and I appreciated it. It’s also very safe for a solo female visitor. And has a cute cat 🐱
Highly recommend
- lostagain2014 (10/5): Pleasant hotel in a good location. - We only stayed here for one night, but were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We chose it because it is within walking distance of the ferry port. The check in went smoothly, the staff were helpful. Our room was clean, had a big comfortable bed, balcony, fridge and aircon. The room overlooked the road, but we didn't notice any traffic noise. Breakfast was a good buffet selection.
In terms of location, the hotel is around a 15 minute walk to the centre of Iraklion and its bars and restaurants. We would certainly stay here again.
- kelsey (8/5): - Clean room, AC worked well and bed was comfy. Close to the port for catching ferry early and walkable to old town. We didn’t have the breakfast as we left too early, but it was available for 10 euro per person
- Tigers1945 (10/5): Splendid Stay - We had a great stay. The location was ideal for us. 5 minute walk to bus station and less than 10 minutes to SeaJets port. It was only a 10 minute walk to the main precinct of shops and restaurants. The room size was very comfortable although the bathroom was a bit tight but how much time do you spend there! Breakfast did not include any hot dishes but there was a good assortment of cold. All staff were very hospitable and helpful, in particular, Katerina at the reception desk. Katerina was a wealth of knowledge on places to go and how to get there so much so we referred to her as Κυρία Google. Thoroughly recommend this Hotel.
- Karin (10/5): Good location, friendly, excellent value for money - Friendly welcome, good location. We had a slight issue in that the shower head clip (to attach to the pole) was missing, I mentioned it to reception and it was dealt with immediately. Breakfast was basic as I expected for the price.
- GoutmanEliz (8/5): Excellent value for money - An excellent choice, close to everything. Good value for money. The people were the best, we were there on business and helped us with everything we needed and even more. It is old but we'll taken care of and recently renovated. If your budget is tight I can't think of a better place
- PaulK743 (8/5): Decent overnighter just outside of centre - I chose this hotel partly as it's easy to find by car. It is a pleasant hotel with very nice staff. Rooms were adequate size and bathrooms are bright and modern with walk in shower. A fridge in the room was helpful. I took breakfast here which was nice. I liked the toasted sandwich maker! A few minutes walk into the centre. Beware though, if arriving by car, it is challenging to find somewhere to park. This hotel is decent value for money and I would stay here again.
- Joy (10/5): - I was happy with my hotel room. My only complaint was that there was very little parking around the hotel.
- annette (8/5): Perfect when you are travelling by bus - This hotel is about a 6 minute walk from the bus station and is in easy reach of the town centre, about a 10 minute walk. The sanitary recommendations for Covid are strictly applied, the rooms are cleaned daily. Staff are on duty 24/24 and are all very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is varied and plentiful. Only one bad point, situated on a main street it's quite noisy you need ear plugs at night.
- 245tanert (10/5): Great value to money - Great lobby service, clean rooms, excellent amenities, very central to anywhere in the city including the ferry port.
Optional breakfast is super convenient with a good price. It is a great value for the money if you will be staying in Heraklion
- thurin (8/5): Just a hotel - I stayed in the hotel at the end of my vacation. Hotel is situated not far from the city center, few minutes walk from the Heraklion Bus Station and bus stop to the airport. Staff is helpful, I have to change my reservation because the airline changed my departure time and couldn't eat the breakfast that I reserved before, no problem. Room was average but with a balcony. Just a hotel.
- KrisD_pl (8/5): Decent hotel - We stayed there for 3 nights. Not the most modern hotel, but the bed was comfortable and bathroom (with a shower) was clean and functional. Our room had a small balcony with a view to the street. In the room there was a small fridge - very convenient. Only the lighting in the room could be stronger, as it was quite dim.
Location is quite good - 10 minutes on foot and you enter the center of the Heraklion town. Finding a parking place on the street can be bit challenging.
We did not take breakfast at the hotel - if you'd like to check some local taste like we did, there's a good bakery Savoidakis (they also serve coffee) just hundred metres up the main street.
Nice staff at the reception.
- Pepperqa1233 (8/5): Review - We stayed in hotel in about 5 days. There was a clean nice small room with large balcony, where was chairs with table. View was not good because I saw opposite balcony. There was a AC with own controller.
Breakfast was ordinary but good.
Hotel is 5 minutes from McDonald's.
I recommend this hotel.
- Patricia (10/5): Warm welcome & great service - A lovely welcome. We arrived late but the gentleman in reception was so welcoming. We had a very early start to catch the ferry in the morning. He very kindly arranged for the catering staff to provide coffee, biscuits & cake for us.
- Patricia (10/5): Highly recommend - We liked this hotel so much, that we booked 2 nights on our return to Heraklion. The staff are so friendly & helpful. It is also very conveniently located in walking distance of the ferry port, bus station & city centre.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent and near port - It was one of the best hotels even if it is rated at 3stars category. the reason of being satisfied about my staying there is that it had a wonderful view of all over the coast line, it was clean and spacy, the breakfast was appropriate and the dinner was of a great variety on the boufet and well cooked foods as meat, salads, desserts and ordef. the only disadvantage is the charged Internet when u are in the room.
- Berenice (10/5): Beautiful, clean, near ferry port and McDonald's!! - Amazing!! Beautiful, clean, friendly hotel. Front desk staff were all angels, gave great directions. Importantly, there is NO KETTLE in the room. The front desk provided me with hot water at all hours for hot drinks in my room or in the lobby. Wifi was fine. Cheap, good supermarket around the corner. Near McDonald's, bus station, and ferry port!! Quick walk to town, not bad.
- Tawfic (6/5): - It Was A 5 Days Stay the Hotel is on a main street near the port and the bus to the airport and also a 5 min walk to the center which is perfect for the restaurants and nightlife there is a nearby supermarket.
- Carina (6/5): Not non-smoker friendly - The entire hotel smelled like cigarette smoke. The bedding and towels had hairs on them which wasn't from us. The street noise and noise from the rest of the hotel came through the walls very clearly. We were woken up by people in flip flops going down the stairs every morning. The breakfast supplied by the hotel was fairly tasty and had a good variety of foods. The people at the front desk were generally friendly.
- Nathalie (6/5): Noisy - The entrance of the hotel looked very nice and the staff was friendly but the room was very basic which was fine as my husband and I were staying only the 1 night to catch a boat early morning. I hardly slept as it was very noisy, I could hear the lift and then water running, it went on for a while way after 1am!! The room could have been more inviting and needed a little updating. It is a shame as it is convenient for transport links.
- Melissa (6/5): Clean and Convenient - This hotel is straight down the street from the port so very convenient. I came in at night and didn't want to spend money on a cab, so it was perfect. Old look and feel in the rooms, but it was clean and had A/C, hot water, wifi, and great new sheets and towels. Breakfast is basic, and they ran out of honey for the yogurt, which is pretty crazy for Greece. Pretty quick walk to the city center.
- david (10/5): Excellent budget hotel close to airport - We found this hotel to be great value and conveniently located for both the airport and the centre of town, which is about 10/15 minute walk away. The staff are very friendly and we received a very warm welcome when we arrived in the early hours of the morning. We were able to park right outside the hotel, with no problems. Our room had good air conditioning and a private balcony with partial sea view. The continental breakfast was very good. We would highly recommend.
- Samir (8/5): Good - The stuff are welcoming near to the city near to the buse station going to the airport.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not expensive, still not worth it. - WiFi non-existent unless in the lobby. Wet bathroom with cold water only. "Queen" bed is two doubles pushed together. Not a great section of town.
- Brian (6/5): A Satisfactory, No-Frills Experience - The Athanikon Hotel is somewhat old and run down, but was perfect for my spouse and me on this particular occasion. The front desk staff was both attentive and responsive to our needs and requests. Room lighting was a bit on the minimal side and the shower is not properly designed to prevent the floor from being constantly flooded whenever it is used. Still, the hotel was close to many tourist attractions as well as to a good bakery and supermarket. We will definitely consider staying here again on future trips to Heraklion.
- Laura (6/5): Visiting Heraclion, Greece - Staff is great. The large lobby is very nice. The rooms are a bit tired and can really use a facelift. The area is commercial and residential, not pretty, but it was convenient to the sights, and the price was amazing.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Lovely budget hotel near the heart of Heraklion - The hotel was nothing fancy but it was everything I needed. Close to the conference I was attending, and close to the heart of Heraklion.
Downsides:
(a) The wifi sucked; during high-use times it was basically non-functional.
(b) There was a fair bit of noise from the street, and from other rooms in the morning, making it hard to sleep in.
(c) The shower was very small; I'm a small person so I was ok with it, but if I had a wide build, the shower curtain would have stuck to my body. The shower head is high though so it should be fine for tall people.
Upsides:
(a) Hotel staff were super nice!
(b) There's a mini fridge, private bathroom, desk and light. That's pretty much all I need in life. Closet and bench with plenty of space to put my stuff.
(c) Lots of lovely natural light from the door to the balcony made it easy to wake up in the morning
(d) The balcony was small, but still nice to stand on and look at the town. I could see all the way to the sea.
(e) Nice lobby and porch where you can sit and work if you need to.
