Guest Reviews
- Lisa (1/5): Foul and dishonest - It was dirty - especially from the outside. Breakfast was inedible kitchen dirty. It’s more like a backpacker hostel and drunk aggressive guys woke everyone up at 2am yelling. And swearing for hours and staff did nothing. Do not stay here. I was also charged twice and now have to submit a dispute if they do t return the money in 14 days.

- Louise (8/5): Fantastic host and stay at Gail’s - Great location and value for money for our short stay. Close to the beach area and easy to find free parking on road. Room clean and beds were comfortable. Host Lyndon is super friendly and really accommodating and could not do enough for us - gave us early check in as we arrived early. Plenty at breakfast time too. Nothing was too much. Perfect for our 1 night. Thank you Our family room got a little hot in the night as a loft room but they do provide a fan in room.
- Deborah (10/5): Great location, friendly staff, clean and had everything you needed. - Location perfect, comfortable beds and very clean. Very friendly and breakfast was fab. Very reasonable price too.

Rooms clean and good facilities ie hairdryer , fridge , iron and fan - also great bath towels Outside could do with a little tidy up
- ShazM66 (10/5): Gail's Guest House - Always a lovely welcome. Everything you need in the room. Lovely breakfast. Quiet location. Nothing
- Jane (8/5): - It was a lovely room for our needs. Lovely and clean. Would recommend The room was far too hot on arrival. But we were able to open a window and turn the radiator down.
- Mileti (9/5): - Great location. Room was comfortable and clean. Lovely breakfast with everything you could wish for. Very friendly owner Lyndon, who cooked our breakfast to perfection in front of us. The shower was good but shower head didn't stay in place properly.

- VERA (6/5): It's the only bnb in the area. We would stay there again. - Location was great to the water, hikes, and restaurants. Bus stop was very close. Owner was nice. We liked staying there and it was appropriately priced. Very low lighting. Difficult to put on makeup. The beds not very comfortable. Some cleaning issues. We went to turn on a fan and dust blew all over. They said there was parking spaces, but street parking only--which was not difficult
- Mark (3/5): Friendly guest house needs major renovation and new beds - The breakfast was very good The smell of cats and very old mattress
- Raymond (1/5): Onze grootste Booking misser sinds 20 jaar - Niets beviel. Het was totaal niet in overeenstemming met de beschrijving en onze verwachting.
Onze eerste Booking-misser sinds 20 jaar.
- Mark (7/5): Cheap and cheerful, just what we wanted. -
- Lisa (10/5): Will definitely come again, we have reserved for another visit - Breakfast was good, made fresh to order, nothing too much trouble for staff Nothing
- Keith (10/5): Very good thanks - Nice room breakfast ok host very welcoming
- Flatt7 (8/5): Comfy and homey space overall with a friendly host! - Very friendly host, lovely breakfast. Good shower in room. Comfy and clean space. The bathroom door didn't lock or even close, so not ideal there. Head of the bed very close to a low overhang, watch your head!

- Andy (8/5): Welcoming, comfortable, great location and breakfast. - Great location, handily situated for Barry and Barry Island. Very friendly owners. Great breakfast with both ContinentaL and Full English options. Room basic, but clean, with a very handy fridge. Huge TV set. The outside of the property isn't necessarily the most welcoming and doesn't reflect the welcoming comfortable accommodation provided.
- Wendy (8/5): - Location, comfy beds and lovely staff breakfast was good but took a while . Think breakfast could be made altogether instead of individual rooms. And bacon could be grilled
- Joanne (10/5): Great B&B - Excellent location! Staff friendly, easy check in and check out. Breakfast was fabulous and cooked to perfection, also continental options available. Nothing
- StewartRK (10/5): -
- Nicolas (8/5): -
- Rashid (7/5): Good stay keep up the good work - Cleanliness friendly staff Need better mattresses
- Stuart (10/5): Great stay at Barry. - Had a great stay at Gail’s guest house, was a good location not too far from the beach near shops and the train station.
Room was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed.
Breakfast was good quality and well cooked and staff were friendly.
- Mark (10/5): - Good value stay, ideal for exploring. Great for exploring Barry Island and very friendly staff. Also nice breakfast.
- Naomi (10/5): Really enjoyed staying here - It was very clean and very friendly The room was lovely the only thing was the mattress was sunk one side
- Baxter (8/5): -
- Jessica (10/5): Muy bien - Desayuno imagine por fuera
- Lindsey (10/5): It was cracking! Would definitely go back. - Great location, room was clean, the breakfast was delicious and the staff were so friendly. Nothing!
- Rebecca (10/5): - Gails guest house was perfect for are stay in barry, room was modern and well looked after. Staff where really accommodating and breakfast was lovely. 10 minutes walk to the beach was all round perfect place to stay
- Carlz_t (8/5): - Gail's Guest House is in a great location to visit Barry Island, free parking is available on the street - beware for permit restrictions. The owners have provided a helpful map in reception area, showing where you can park for free.
Our room was on the top floor and upon arrival it was well presented, we were grateful to be provided a Phillips fan as it was very warm! It was a shame to notice how dusty the inside of the fan was the next morning.
Breakfast was included in the price of the room, pre-order was required. The breakfast was lovely and served with a smile.
The bathroom was clean but the shower did have mould around the seal and inbetween the tiles - which was disappointing to see and I did mention this on my departure.
We also had a family room but were only provided 2 mugs / plastic glasses - attention to detail and something that could be easily rectified.
We all did sleep really well though and the beds were super comfortable.
Overall, Gail's Guest House does represent good value for money.
- James (10/5): - Excellent host, couldn't do enough for you. Room was a little on the small side though everything you needed was available for you.
- Joanne (7/5): -
- KELVINMORGAN (9/5): Glastenbarry weekend - Clean and comfortable. Lovely breakfast
- Richard (10/5): - Great location
- Rosemary (8/5): Lovely owner and friendly staff - Loved the way the owner made you feel so welcome and trustworthy and went out of his way to make sure we were happy with our stay, and he cooked whatever you wanted for breakfast even though it was a pre order the night before he was very accomodating, thank you x Sadly the stairs and the sloping ceiling, but that is an age thing not the owners fault, the top floor is not suitable for my needs that is why I put no in the expectation box, I found it difficult climbing the narrow stairs. but we had altered our booking a few weeks earlier so we must have getting a room change then.
- Aili (10/5): -
- Robert (8/5): - Excellent Value for Money.
We booked for just the one night as visiting family in the area and just needed somewhere to rest overnight. Gail's Guest House provided everything we needed. My wife and I had the twin en-suite on the second floor; you need to be ok with stairs as no lift, but the beds were comfortable, the room and en-suite very clean and lovely and quiet at night. We had no trouble finding free on-street parking just around the back of the Guest House and had our own key for easy access at any time. Cooked English breakfast items were pre-ordered by 9pm the previous evening with options for a 30-minute time slot to suit. Lyndon and Claudine were in the open-style kitchen / dining room the next morning to cook / deliver our cooked breakfast as ordered. Other self-serve buffet style tea, coffee, juices, cereals, fruits, yogurts etc. were also available as required. Lyndon and Claudine were on hand for any little extras and couldn't have been more cheerful and polite. All-in-all, a clean, well run, comfortable family guest house at amazing value for what you get.
Thank you.
- Jade (10/5): -
- Alison (5/5): - Close to the amenities En-suite needed a good clean. No mirror on dressing table
- Cheryl (8/5): - Breakfast was good. You could order a cooked breakfast and they also gave you the added choice of cereal, fruit and yoghurt.
- Susan (8/5): Great location for visiting Barry Island - The location of Gail's Guest House was perfect for our stay.
The included breakfast was a nice touch.
We appreciated the wifi code along with emergency contact details being given to us on arrival with our key.
The host was very welcoming.
- Chase (8/5): Nice, comfortable and good breakfast - Beds were very comfy Shower was a little weak
- Emma (8/5): - Great breakfast
- Karen (9/5): Lovely little comfortable place to stay -
- Andrew (9/5): The wife (Gavin and Stacey fan) really enjoyed the placement of the guest house. Staff were great. - Being near to the sea and pleasure beach. No apple juice at breakfast.
- Deborah (2/5): Wouldn't go back - The location The room was clean on the surface, but if you inspected it closely it could have been cleaner. The bed was uncomfortable, it was so soft that you couldn’t get a good night's sleep. On the left hand side it dipped terribly so that you could fall off if you rolled over. The shower tray did not drain away very well, so half way through showering it felt you were standing in a paddling pool, with the worry that it would flood through the doors and on to the floor, so we couldn’t take a long luxurious shower.
We didn’t really have much communication with the owners but they seemed pleasant.
However, we only had breakfast on the first day. We ordered up front as requested, there was only 1 of each item on the plate (i.e. 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 1 egg, 1 slice of toast), maybe we could have asked for more when ordering but that wasn’t specified on the form. The sausage was just about cooked, the bacon was rock hard and the mushrooms were salty (I’m guessing they were tinned). The continental wasn’t anything to write home about, 1 tub with cornflakes in, a couple of croissants, bananas that were going black.
We didn’t go back for our paid for breakfast on the second day because of the following. When we had finished our breakfast I was facing the kitchen and they were cooking the next couples breakfast. They got the bacon out of the microwave, he touched it with bare hand and told the lady to put it back in the microwave for a few more seconds, then he put his finger in his ear to scratch it, and immediately after this he was plating up their food with tongues in one hand but was re-arranging the food with the bare hand that he had just scratched his ear with. Then, he was showing the lady something on his phone, leaning over a counter, and was scratching his head while doing this. She then proceeded to put clean plates on this counter without wiping it over first.
If we were to go back to Barry Island I’m afraid we would not be staying here.
- Russell (6/5): - Close to where we needed to be. Room temperature, bed uncomfortable, breakfast below standard.
- Karen (8/5): - Lovely rooms - very clean and included everything you needed. Friendly staff.
- Emma (10/5): Great place, close to everything you need. Pleasant owners and great breakfast. - Was kept up to date and in contact. Was able to check in earlier. Easy to access. N/A
- Andrew (7/5): -
- Mark (10/5): Nice staff, clean room, easy check in and check out, very nice breakfast but room seemed smaller then the pictures onlin - Kind staff and clean rooms Room a bit smaller then pictures looked, but not a huge problem, room was still big enough for what was needed
- Mal (10/5): -
- Claire (8/5): -
- Salvatore (10/5): Perfect for Barry Island - Great location with friendly and helpful hosts.
- Martyn (10/5): M hope - I stayed at the B&B for one night. Service was brilliant. Couldn’t fault the people they were very friendly.
- KELVINMORGAN (9/5): Glastenbarry - Lovely breakfast and great value.
- jon (4/5): - The location was ok , easy check in The bed in room 6 is so uncomfortable, the mattress is very lumpy and think the bed is broken as you kind of have to sleep on a slope , the room is in the eves of the house , so being 6'3" meant I literally had to walk around on my hands and knees so that a didnt bump my head .
- Isaac (10/5): -
- Adrian (10/5): -
- Cathy (8/5): Lovely stay and would return in the future. - Location was good. Very easy walk to Barry Island.
Owner of guest house very friendly and cooks a delicious breakfast which sets you up for the day. Attic rooms had low beams which we had to carefully navigate.
- Beth (10/5): Friendly, close to beach and lovely breakfast - Nice place to stay, close to the beach, lovely breakfast and room was clean
- Sophia (10/5): This B&B is great value and in a great location, would definitely recommend. - Value for money & location!!! We didn’t get to see the owner to say thank you and goodbye, just felt off to put the keys on a tray and leave.
- michaeljroberts1980 (10/5): -
- Shirley (8/5): - Clean and friendly. In an attic room on probably the hottest day of the year so far. Extremely hot and unbearable. The oscillating fan didn't make the room any cooler.
- Morgan (10/5): - Lovely clean place host really friendly good breakfast Good place to stay near everything no faults
- RARA98 (4/5): Handy location, just needs a re vamp - The location is great! The hosts are lovely and the place is quiet. And the fan in the room as it was so hot! Pillows firm and comfy, and big towels. The place needs a refurbishment, its worn and tired. We had mould in the bathroom sealant, half a curtain hanging off, rips in the net curtain, half light bulbs missing and light shaded half hanging, holes and rips in bedding, wardrobe doors broken and half hanging off. Mattress lumpy and flat on one side, with need new ones or mattress toppers, the bed also too low.
- Ceara (7/5): OK location with a basic breakfast, but the smell would put me off. - OK location for getting to Barry Island, and they serve a basic breakfast. Check-in was simple with the key left in an envelope. Heavy dog smell hits you as soon as you enter. The street feels a bit run down. Parking is pot luck around the corner. Room had very low ceilings — easy to bump your head. The place overall feels tired and in need of updating. They have ring cameras everywhere.
- Louise (10/5): Just what we needed for oasis concert in Cardiff and lovely to see Barry too - Great communication, very easy and clear instructions. Great location. Free street parking, lovely room, really great breakfast. Lovely staff It was all great
- sophie (10/5): Excellent value for money, very clean and excellent host and breakfast. Would recommend - It was super clean, easy to check in, plenty of space and an easy walk to Barry Island Not much, beautifully decorated inside and the hosts were wonderful. Exceptional breakfast.
- Sarah (10/5): Fantastic Stay Again - This was my second stay in this lovely guest house this year. As before, the room was clean and quiet with everything I needed (and more!). There was a fantastic choice of breakfast items and the host was extremely welcoming and helpful.
- Adrian (9/5): - Great location. Breakfast delicious.
- Paul (8/5): -
- Lorna (9/5): - Easy check in close to everything
- Daughters (7/5): - Excellent breakfast!
- Sam (8/5): -
- Jemma (9/5): Concert trip - Really close to the train station and the beach. We attended a concert at the principality stadium and it was so easy to get there and back on the train and much cheaper than hotels in Cardiff.
Breakfast was good with a large selection. Parking was on the street around the corner and I always feel cheeky parking outside someone else's house. The street in front of Gail's is permit only. Having said that there was plenty of parking
- Wayne (7/5): Good place to stay, great location and vale for money - The welcoming and a good breakfast Quite a strong smell when entering the property via the front door
- Hirschfield (10/5): - Lovely room, nice shower. Even a new fan to keep us cool!
The host couldn't be more amazing, offered to do anything for us, and cooked a lovely breakfast
Really would love to stay here again I couldn't think of anything I didn't like. It really was truly amazing
