Guest Reviews
- Christian (9/5): -
- Galina (10/5): Very beautiful traditional house, clean, central location. - The house is beautiful - traditional and very nice, in a perfect central area. There is only one separate bedroom basically and all the rest of the rooms are part of the common area. If you are more people you just need to be aware of this. Bathroom is only one, two WCs available.
- Ja-ne (8/5): Thoughtfully restored Machiya that balances heritage with comfort. - Very spacious and close to many small shops and eateries. The Machiya retains its rich history even though the facilities/amenities are modern hence providing a unique experience shaped by the understated elegance of Kyoto living. Paid carparks are somewhat of a distance away and roads in that area are very narrow. The entrance to the Machiya was also extremely narrow and uneven. Upper floor floorboards are extremely creaky so light sleepers on the ground floor will be greatly affected.
- Jessica (10/5): - Traditional, peaceful, and quiet retreat in a great location Difficult to locate at first - Google maps often placed entry on parallel street...but not an issue once we were aware
- melita (10/5): - Amazing communication by the property manager!!
Fantastic place to stay. It was so close to the Nishki Market! It was so close to heaps of restaurants and shops. The area is so safe. It was wonderful to have the 2 western style beds in addition to the futons. Would certainly stay again.
- GYOMIN (10/5): Cozy and Convenient Stay - I stayed in a traditional Kyoto-style house during the winter, and it was incredibly warm and cozy. The heating worked well, so I had no worries despite the cold weather. The atmosphere was charming, allowing me to relax comfortably in an authentic setting.
The location was also excellent—just a 10-minute walk from the bustling downtown area, making it very accessible while still being in a quiet neighborhood. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring a pleasant stay. Additionally, Uber drivers had no trouble finding the hotel, which made transportation convenient.
If you're looking for a place that offers both the charm of traditional Kyoto and great accessibility, I highly recommend this accommodation!
- Tina (8/5): Lovely home, an oasis within Kyoto city - Great location, authentic machiya experience. Very clean and the tatami and futon were perfectly comfortable. Highly recommended to any family traveling together. Easy checkin (check in is nearby kyoto station and not at the machiya itself) and beautiful space. They send your luggage to the machiya for an addition 500 yen apiece. You don’t need to be home to receive the luggage, they will place your luggage inside the machiya for you. Construction going on next door, not a huge issue but would have been appropriate to be notified in advance. Sounds travel very far within the machiya, so if your group sleeps at different times or if there are any young children, I would not recommend this place, nor any other older machiya home. The entire home creaks and cracks at every movement (just for your awareness, we know this is expected of an older home)
- Lisa (9/5): Fabulous - Great location close to Nishiki Markets and Gion District. Authentic Japanese style accomodation, clean and well equipped. Only one pillow per bed.
- Deniz (3/5): Poor - Only the Japanese style living room was okay. The rest was below average. They don't have a big bed. Had to sleep seperately with my wife. Some may say it is a good thing but not for me :D They don't provide Yukata (traditional clothing) so it doesn't really make it worth to stay there. For the keys, you have to travel like 30 mins :/
- Yang (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ann (9/5): Superb - A beautiful and cosy base for our visit
- Zen (8/5): Good traditional Japanese house - I like the space, the feel of staying in a traditional Japanese house. It is safe for young children even though there is a well (not sure if it is functioning) as the area to the well is sort of locked up. The floor is heated and the toilet seats are heated too. There is a dryer facility in the bathroom area where you can set the humidity to drying room.
There is a fruit stall at unit 555, https://www.instagram.com/yaoyataiyou. The fruits are fresh and price is good. The owners are sincere sellers that serve with a smile. Totally like to go to the fruit stall. If you like fruits, good place to go to, as I realize that it is not easy to get hold of fruits in Japan. The location to check in is not easiest to find. After that, it is a 20-30 mins walk to hotel. Would recommend to send the luggage to check in area in advance and carry a set of clothes so that you don’t have to drag your luggage along. The luggage sent in time is about 7ish even though check in was 4pm.
The light is dim, good for old housing ambience but not great for reading.
The location is smack in the middle of everything and it is a walk to train, buses or Nishiki market.
- Mao (8/5): Good experience in Kyoto - A good house for 2 family traveling together. We cooks for breadfast and dinner conveniently as there are 2 foodmarkets around. However, there is no salt, suger, oil prepared as likely houses in other countries and house keeping is not so compeletly maybe did by different persons in different standard.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great for family! - Love it! It's like you have a little traditional Japanese house all to yourself and your family. Very nice. The location is just a short walk from Nishiki market. Will def return if I have a chance to come to kyoto again.
