Guest Reviews
- Lowil (8/5): - - close to bus stop
- friendly staff
- quite big room
- river near hotel
- beautifull view for the mountain
- very nice oldschool design - poor breakfast: 3 (!) boiled eggs for us (two persons), tosts with jam and cornflakes
- town looks like ghots town, empty and many buildings are abandoned
- Janet (10/5): Fantastic location and value for the money. - Location was great. Staff was amazing! Owner is sweet lady with a wonderful SMILE!! The name suits her- very hospitable.
Dinner by the river was great. Picked up a pizza at the National park area. Location to bus stop was perfect. Beds were hard.
Area around Smile was very run down.
- Charles (10/5): Great stay - Excellent stay, friendly owner, comfy bed and beautiful surroundings, very close to national park, good breakfast with cereal/toast and jam, fully recommend
- Teng-Levy (8/5): -
- Pearce (9/5): -
- keinänen (10/5): - Location was good for hiking. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. The breakfast was good.
- binyamin (6/5): - A lot of mosquitoes at night in the room
- Kirsty (9/5): Comfortable, clean, good value and lovely hosts - So extremely friendly, with everything we needed
- Sarah (8/5): Perfect location for walking in the Seoraksan national park. - Great location for the Seoraksan National park, regular buses take you to the entrance.
Breakfast provided which was a bonus. Nothing
- Wendy (9/5): -
- Alice (9/5): Great stay, would highly recommend to be close to the park. - Had a great stay at Smile resort. The host was lovely and very welcoming. There was a great communal breakfast area which served a basic breakfast and was toasty warm in the cold weather + our bedroom floor was heated! The location was super close to the bus stop and easy to access Seoraksan NP.
- Robert (10/5): Smile resort is a cozy, welcoming stay run by a lovely host - Stayed at Smile Resort in Sokcho and had such a lovely experience. The place is beautiful and welcoming, and it’s run by a truly lovely lady who makes you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.
The location is perfect if you’re planning to hike or wander through the natural park nearby. After long days exploring the trails, it was wonderful to come back to such a comfortable and cozy room. Breakfast was a highlight too: having roasted chestnuts in the morning was such a unique and delicious treat.
The little town itself is very quiet and peaceful, which made the stay even more relaxing. There’s also a great little café called Cafe RR that became our favorite stop for a coffee or a beer after a long hike. And if you’re looking for food, the restaurant Jeonju Korea serves an amazing hot stone vegetable bibimbap that we absolutely loved.
Another big plus is how easy it is to get around: buses run very frequently to the park and to Sokcho, so everything is convenient.
All in all, Smile Resort is definitely the place to stay if you want a comfortable base for exploring the area and enjoying the beautiful nature around Sokcho.
- Denis (9/5): Adorable host and perfect location for Seroaksan hikes - The hotel was perfectly located to go hiking in Seroaksan Park, it was only a 10-min bus ride away. The room was very clean and comfortable. Mrs Kim was absolutely adorable and welcoming, this is the best hotel to stay in Seroaksan!
- Michael (8/5): Excellent (with very minimal nuances) - Let me in earlier. Very nice host. Beautiful national park next door. They heat up floor later in the day … but not during a day - it was a bit cold, but not too bad.
- Pritha (9/5): - Location, heated bed, friendly staff.
- Anne (7/5): Hele vriendelijke eigenaren - Locatie
- Carl (10/5): Excellent location for the national park and excellent value for money. - The host looks after you very well , the rooms are toasty warm , very comfy when it’s cold outside and you have hiked all day .
Very good fried chicken restaurant around the corner too . The town itself is a bit rundown , but don’t let that put you off staying here.
- Milana (10/5): Went to go hiking in seoraksan NP. WORTH the hype - Breakfast was great. Hostess was very kind and informative. Easy bus ride to National park or to town. National park was great.
Restaurants nearby or ramen in lobby.
- Racine (10/5): -
- Seigi (7/5): -
- Samuel (10/5): - Location amazing and place next to river incredible
- chloe (10/5): -
- charlotte (8/5): - Great location, right next to the bus station which takes you to the entrance of the park. Complimentary breakfast, which was unexpected of cereal, fruits and eggs. Landlady was so kind. Rooms were comfortable and warm, which was lovely after a long hike. The town itself is quite abandoned, with lots of empty and derelict old hotels/hostels from reduced tourism over the years. Smile hostel seems to be one of the only ones in the area left!
- Chase (10/5): - The property's location was excellent and the staff were extremely friendly!
Rien
- Glenn (10/5): - Fantastic host, very friendly and always smiling.
- Felix (9/5): -
- Oded (9/5): - The owner Miss Kim was so lovely, the location was great. Very basic but fits the price. I have no bad thing to say
- Simina (10/5): Perfect location to visit the national park - Perfect location to visit the national park. 2 minute walk to the bus stop (7 & 7.1) to the national park & the bus terminal (express + intercity)/city of Sokcho. Several nice restaurants and a 7-eleven close by (max. 6 minute walk). The host is super nice and very helpful. Room is very clean. Breakfast is simple but more than enough. Highly recommended! Nothing
- WON SIK (10/5):
- Terence (10/5): -
- Melanie (9/5): Wonderful hospitaility in a beautiful part of South Korea - The lady who runs this accomodation is extremely personable and lovely. She made our stay very enjoyable. It felt very homely like we were staying in her house. She minded our luggage a night when we stayed overnight at one of the mountain shelters. She was very kind to our two children giving them ice creams and treats. The only challenge in the area is the lack of restaurants, quite a strange atmosphere with lots of empty, old hotels that are not used anymore. Real shame as it is a beautiful part of South Korea. Be prepared as there are lots of mosquitoes near the river.
- natbetti (9/5): - La ubicacion
- RICARD (10/5): Excellent stay ! - Simple room with a private bathroom. Everything was clean and functional. Breakfast is included.
The landlady is VERY kind and gives good recommendations to travelers for activities and hiking in Seoraksan park. She even drove me to the Cheoksan Hot springs !
There is an outside terrace with the river running nearby.
You can find restaurants and convenience stores close by. -
- Bärbel (9/5): -
- falk (9/5): Friendly hostel, clean and quiet - Even though it wasn't mentioned in the description as simple breakfast with bread and eggs was offered for free.
- Sonam (9/5): best - good NA
- Sara (10/5): - The owners of this place were so lovely! I felt like I was staying with my family. They took care of me and treated me to coffee and rice cake when I got back from my hike. I was traveling alone and they made me feel very welcome. On the last day it was raining a lot and my host gave me a poncho to wrap.around my suitcase so it didn't get wet while waiting for the bus. I slept well in my room. Bed was very comfy and room was big with a little desk i could use to work on my laptop
Location is so beautiful on the creek with an outdoor seating area where I had breakfast in the morning and watched the birds and spent the afternoon reading. Very close to the national park entrance and convenient restaurants within short walking distance . I would stay here again
- Petr (8/5): -
- Chavis (10/5): Escape from city burn-out. - Most people stay in Sokcho City to be near all the stores, so this little resort town has mostly died off with just a few stores and restaurants nearby to keep it in service (though I've had some very good, very large meals since I got here and the 7-11 is a few minutes walk and open 24 hours, so you're covered). As a result, though, you almost have the feeling of having the town to yourself when you go out. It's quiet, it's peaceful, it matches the surrounding forests and mountains and river. The skywalk over the river is right at the end of the street, there's just so much incredible stuff within walking distance (everything Seorak-san has to offer is basically within 3km and walkable). The 7 and 7-1 bus stops right at the entrance to their street and it's like, $1.25 to get to Sokcho if you need something (the mega-emart around the corner from the express bus terminal has everything you could possibly need). Basically you get the total package at a tenth of the price.
As for the hotel, the staff is friendly, the room is spacious and has most of your kitchen needs, the shower is adequate, and the wifi is strong. The grounds have a bunch of lovely and comfortable places to sit and hang out both inside and out. They're right on a tributary to the river and have a little external stairway to the water where they've set stones to make pools to soak your feet.
I wanted to get away from city life and until I found this place, I was having trouble finding what I needed. I'm going to stay here a while, and I'll be back in the future when I burn out again. This is what I needed.
*If you're fascinated by boom towns gone bust like I am, there's the added bonus of some absolutely colossal old hotels slowly returning to nature here, as well. Seorak Park Resort and Casino absolutely dominates the skyline across the river and is 100% abandoned, but you can only tell from up close. Nothing but nitpicks that aren't worth complaining about.
- Carly (9/5): I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this charming guesthouse, and would stay there again. - The couple who run the place were friendly, accommodating and attentive. The location is an easy 10 minute bus ride to Seoraksan National Park. There are a few restaurants and a cafe in the area, and it was located beside a stream with an outdoor area of covered picnic tables to enjoy. Heads up, the neighbourhood is older and there are a few abandoned buildings which can feel a little spooky, especially when you first arrive when traveling alone. But don't let that put you off! Otherwise, it was a quiet and restful spot with the necessary amenities and lots of greenery.
- Riggs (8/5): Best customer service I have EVER had in a hotel, and I've stayed in a lot in the US. - The woman at the front desk was probably the nicest person alive. I got there an hour before my friend and she offered to pick him up so he didnt have to get a taxi! She also offered to point us in the direction of nice places to visit in the area, sadly had to turn her down, but she was awesome nonetheless. Both hotels I've stayed in so far in korea have had pretty hard beds, luckily i can fall asleep anywhere. and the TV was pretty small... but meh, we werent there to hangout in our hotel room, so it didnt matter too much to me.
- Petr Petrás (8/5): - Simple accomodation at good place next to mountains. Do not expect luxury, just basic beds, shower, good for overnight when on trekking in the area. sockets to charge mobile are scare and strange placed
- Mckenzie (8/5): -
- Amber (5/5): Nice staff, good beds, not very clean - Friendly staff, cute dog on the property, close to Seoraksan (bus stop at 5 minutes from the park entrance), very comfy beds, spacious. The property is rather old and not well maintained. It needs some renovation and deep-cleaning (like many things in this specific village/area surrounding the property).
- Liina (9/5): Superb - Quiet and peaceful, homely place, very friendly staff - a lot of smiles :)
- Véronique (10/5): We will come back for sure - Very quiet, clean, simple but everything you need. Big room compared to other places. Very convenient close to the bus station, Seoraksan park and facilities. And the tenant was so helpful and kind!!! She even drop us to the park the second day we were there. Nothing
- Jean (10/5): - Very nice place and helpful owner.. I would recommend, close to soraksan entrance. Beautiful little stream behind resort
- Virginie (8/5): Very good -
- Grace (10/5): Exceptional - great location, super easy to each from sokcho and then super easy to reach the national park. Owner was super lovely and helpful!!
- Patrik (10/5): Superfriendly - Extremly friendly owner with the kind of hospitality that feel totally genuine.
Thanks for everything!
- Carey (8/5): A Good Place to Stay for a Short While - The room was big and clean. The location of the hotel was close to the National Park for hiking, and the nearby scenery was beautiful. It was also close enough to Sokcho, convenience stores, and restaurants that we could easily find places to eat and buy supplies. The owner acted very strange when we checked in. We booked 2 rooms for 4 guests, but one of our friends could not make it because he fell ill 2 days before the trip, so there were only 3 of us. My boyfriend, and I and one single female friend. As a couple, we wanted our own room, which is why we booked 2 rooms instead of everyone staying in one room. The owner checked my ID when we arrived, then looked at us disapprovingly, saying they were running out of rooms and asking why there were only 3 of us. Then she insisted on checking my booking reference number. We paid for the room weeks in advance, and it was non-refundable, but her behavior made us feel like we were somehow inconveniencing her because we were not all staying in one room. It's the first time in 10 years of living in Korea that I've been asked for my ID and my booking reference. It was very uncomfortable, and the interaction made all 3 of us annoyed. Also, the fridge looked and smelled like it hadn't been cleaned for a while.
- Damaris (10/5): One of my favourite stays from my holiday will be back and to stay longer - Our Korean Nan was the best!!!! An absolutely amazing host, friendly and welcoming.
We arrived late at night check in was simple
Room was clean - private bathroom - aircon
We woke early to hike and missed breakfast (served from 8-9am) when we returned at midday she organised for us to eat a late breakfast (no charge) and organised local tickets to the onsen to soak our tired muscles.
The outdoor area is great for relaxing
7/11 and bus stop is a 5 min walk N/A
- Georgina (10/5): I definitely recommend Smile Resort if you’re visiting Seoraksan National Park! - We stayed at Smile Resort during a long weekend hiking in Seoraksan. This is a lovely family-run hotel a 15-min drive from Seoraksan national park. Our room was very spacious, comfortable and clean. The owners are very friendly and welcoming, and the continental breakfast in the morning was great. Nothing - we loved it!
- Nazli (8/5): Cozy modest stay - Location js good, close to the bus stop and restaurants closeby also. Very cozy place.
- Wildeboer (9/5): Superb - great host! great location! hot water seemed to run out quick and you can't flush toilet paper in sokcho
- Elizabeth (7/5): Good - Good access to the National Park.
Clean and spacious A bit tired looking surrounded by abandoned buildings.
Felt very safe though.
- Livia (7/5): Good - Charming hotel with very friendly staff.
Just a short bus ride from stunning Seoraksan. Apart from the hotel, 2 restaurants, a coffee bar and a small convenient store, the place is quite a ghost town with a lot of run-down and empty buildings. Felt a little bit spooky when I arrived before check-in time and there was nobody. If you plan a full-day hike in Seoraksan I'd recommend to do your shopping beforehand in Sokcho (there are lunch restaurants in Seoraksan too, but not along the longer hikes).
- Rebecca (10/5): - I had a great stay here during my trip to Seoraksan National Park. The hosts were so warm and friendly. I was able to do a load of laundry (for a small extra charge) and while I was waiting in the lobby for the wash cycle to finish, the host gave me some mugwort rice cakes to try.
- Alex (10/5): Exceptional - AWESOME place to stay. If you are a snob that's looking for a heartless Hilton - just go away, you won't like it, people here have souls :))) If you are after AMAZING hospitality, warmth and feeling like you belong, even though I don't speak a word of Korean - go for it ❤️
We had a very decent sized apartment with everything you might need, loads of pillows which I liked and perfect mattresses that made us rested nicely after a long days spent hiking.
The owner who welcomed us and was there to take care of us throughout the stay is an absolute star, she is honestly one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life... I just wish more people were like you!!! Thank you so much for being so awesome and nice to us, you honestly made my heart melt - and your kindness towards my daughter will not be forgotten ❤️❤️❤️
Will definitely come back and stay again if I am in Korea. No better place in Seorak!!! ❤️ The fact that I stayed in Seorak so short!
- Jasper (8/5): Would reccomend - Great facilities and location. Owner was really nice and helpful.
- Di-an (8/5): Very good -
- Leo (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (8/5): Memorable stay - The owner was extremely kind and helpful. We met friendly travelers from around the world. It was a clean and wonderful place to stay! We would return.
So close to Seoraksan mountain and to the coastal city of Sokcho.
- Szeip (8/5): Very good - Nice rooms and very kind owner.
- Allison (10/5): - After a hectic week in Seoul, this was a great place to relax and unwind. I was immediately greated and felt welcomed by the owner. The rooms are basic but comfortable. There is a light breakfast supplied. The bus is a 5 minute walk (#7 and 7-1) and for those who like walking/hiking, Seoraksan National Park is an easy hour away (by foot) as well as many other trails around this beautiful area. This place is a hidden gem.
- Zoey (10/5): Excellent accommodations and location! - The location was perfect for going to the National Park. We were not expecting breakfast so it was very nice to have. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. The kitchenette was well stocked.
- Ruth (7/5): Good - The owners were very friendly and helpful, and it was great to have breakfast included. It was quite hard to find food nearby, and it was further from the National Park than the other village. There was a great bus service, however, so that wasn't too much of a problem.
- Bibiana (10/5): Cozy place great to rest aftera day in nature - Great place to stay! Comfy and owners are super nice helpful and warm
- Nia (6/5): Location very good but the host and room was subpar. - the location was excellant. We wanted a river view and the owner gave us a room that faced another building. Off to the left, not directly in my field of vision, was the river. However, owner insisted this was a river view. A river view means, when you look out the window, the river is directly in front of you. I would have been satisifed had she owned up to the fact that she didnot have a room available based on my request. Secondly, be prepared bath towels are more like hand towels, not full bath towels.
- Marie (9/5): Superb - Good location and beautiful surroundings
Hosts were amazing, very friendly and helpful
Good amenities, everything you need in the room
Very close to Seoraksan park
7-eleven and restaurants close by (5min walk)
20min drive to Sokcho
We got a bigger room/free upgrade! The facilities are a bit old but they are well kept
We didn't care but there isn't a full breakfast, just some bread, jam, tea, eggs and drinks :) It's completely fine for us
The fridge can be loud
- Olaree (9/5): Superb - The place is very cozy .The facilities are old but taking good care and clean. The owner is very kind.
- Tobias (10/5): - Freundliche Gastgeber
- Christian (9/5): Superb -
- Melora (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lea (10/5): Our stay was amazing. Its a beautiful place with very kind owners, great for visiting Seoraksan. -
- Maria (10/5): Perfect for your stay while visiting Sorak National Park! - This hostel type of resort is nestled next to a beautiful river - the river sounds lulled us to sleep! Serene and very quiet, we stayed here for two nights with our kids so we could visit Sokcho and Sorak National park. The couple running the place is warm and friendly and catered to all our needs - a cot for our younger son, extra blankets, a heater etc. The room was spacious for the four of us and had a small kitchenette with a fridge, dishes, cutlery, etc as well as a kitchen table.
In the morning, there’s continental breakfast served free of charge. There are also drinks and snacks like instant ramen available for purchase. Great rates and kind people! Highly recommend!
- Renay (10/5): Exceptional - The sweetest guesthouse with the friendliest, caring hosts. Wish I stayed longer. Room was big, warm and had everything you need. Breakfast was provided and the host made you feel so at home.
Bus stop to Seoraksan NP a few mins walk away. The best location to explore the park!
