- kennethwH1294TD (10/5): Great Place to stay in Dunbar. - Comfortable stay, in a wonderful wee town. Good service and food.
- Clyde (8/5): -
- MICHELLE (8/5): Lovely hotel - Friendly staff
Beautiful room No drinking water in tap in bedroom. Fridge in reception had no water available.

- Y7425TPjuliaa (10/5): Travel stop over - The Dunmuir hotel was recommended to us as a stop over on a long drive down from Wick in Scotland, it did not disappoint. The reception was welcoming, the room was absolutely wonderful and eating in their restaurant was fabulous. So pleased we stayed here.
- Alan Foggin (7/5): - Room was clean, comfortable bed
- djmack_10 (10/5): Highly recommended - Superb large room with super comfy bed. Room had everything required for a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. Hotel has an excellent restaurant with great menu choice and lovely freshly cooked food. Also a very comfortable and well stocked bar. Highly recommended for anyone looking for accommodation in Dunbar or looking for good food.
- katelT8967HK (10/5): Charming Hotel for golf experience! - We loved this quaint 3 star hotel! It is small (24 rooms), with a wonderful intimate feel. The staff work at least three jobs at the front desk, and the charming bar and restaurant. A hot Scottish breakfast is included and served at the time you specify. The rates are lower here than hotels North Berwick as it is slightly less central for golfers, however you can take the 120 Bus into North Berwick in 45 minutes, or drive in 25 minutes to golf the courses there, and there are two course right in Dunbar. The Transpennine Express train runs from Edinburgh Waverly train station into Dunbar station, a short walk from the hotel. You can walk to the harbour and most restaurants are within a kilometre. The bus stop is 240 feet from the hotel. Dunbar is the original home of John Muir, a revered figure in this town. Don’t miss his museum.
- Roger (10/5): Very good - Very good , Nothing
- EVA (8/5): -
- Mark (9/5): - Clean . N/A
- phillip (10/5): Overnight stay - The hotel is a nice change from the usual big chain hotels. The interior has retained a warm, cosy and welcoming feel. The room was clean, tidy and well equiped, but above all, it was comfortable with no noise from other guests. The little bar area is great for relaxing at the end of the day.
On our arrival the check in was spot on and the staff friendly and welcoming, very likely we will stay there again when we visit the area in the future. Nothing
- doreen (10/5): A great place to stay! - From the moment we arrived, everything was great. The staff helpful and friendly, the room clean with everything we needed and the food delicious. It was ideally located for the local tourist attractions. I would visit again if in the area. Nothing.
- 361lorrainea (10/5): Fantastic food in lovely surroundings. - We went for our anniversary dinner. Had a fantastic evening . Staff friendly and informative, nice atmosphere . The food was outstanding we had the pollock and duck breast . Duck melted in my mouth. For afters had the Paris Brest with ginger ice cream. Perfect way to finish meal . Would highly recommend .
- May (6/5): Friendly staff, clean comfortable facilities. - Nice enough hotel and close by for work requirements The restaurant wasn’t open and there was no water in the room.
Breakfast wasn’t included and was expensive .
- MalcolmM220 (10/5): Another excellent lunch! - Our family is tending to make a habit of lunches at this Hotel's restaurant, and yesterday was no exception. This time we were celebrating two 'significant' birthdays - a daughter and a granddaughter. The restaurant did not let us down and we once again enjoyed a superb lunch at a leisurely pace fitting for a Saturday afternoon.
In terms of the menu, I can only really comment on my choices - King Scallop for starters, Beef Cheek Bourguignon and Vanilla Rice Pudding for dessert. All were impeccably prepared and presented, and I was very happy with my meal. When asking round the table, everyone expressed a very high level of pleasure - including my son-in-law a professional chef. I think the secret of a really good restaurant is the cooking to order. Yes, one may wait a little longer for the food to appear, but the wait is worth it - and encourages conversation around the table. We all loved the lunch and thank the Hotel staff once again for making us so welcome. From Front-of-house to chef, the standards remain high.
Incidentally, the hotel also welcomes (well-behaved) dogs, as we have previously experienced - this time the dog stayed at home.
I cannot comment about the hotel itself as I have never stayed there, but the fact that the local paper was reporting the gaining of AA awards last week, may speak for itself. Congratulations to you, and please keep it up.
- Elle (10/5): Amazing stay! Would definitely come again - Property was comfortable, clean and easy to get to. The toiletries were stocked up daily and the staff were all lovely and very attentive! The breakfast is to die for! Nothing!
- Jamesd2705 (10/5): Very Nice Stay - Room was very comfortable, free parking on site & comfortable bar area. Excellent dinner & breakfast. A short walk to the beach & harbour. Worth staying.
- Ben (9/5): -
- ZJ (9/5): Very convenient location and good value - Very convenient for our route. Clean and comfortable.
- terrywC9279NP (10/5): Great hotel - Best hotel in Dunbar by a mile..1st class in every aspect from the warm greeting from reception and if your lucky a greeting from max the family Dalmation, to the food and fantastic rooms.Breakfast always cooked to your taste and nothing is ever too much to ask of the staff.cant wait for our next visit. And if we can't get booked in then we just dont go. Keep up the hard work and mire awards will be on their way
- jackyj439 (10/5): Great stay at the Dunmuir Hotel - Fantastic stay at the Dunmuir.. great location for dog walking on the beach..
Rooms comfy, clean and quiet. Great breakfast. Staff helpful and friendly and dog was welcomed..
- GÜRKAŞ (5/5): -
- matthewdominicb (8/5): Pleasant and fairly priced - Very pleasant and fairly priced dinner with friends. Staff were warm and accommodating, food whilst relatively simple was well prepared and the whole is well kept. Its a small pleasant town and this is a small pleasant hotel in an area decidedly short of good places to eat. This fits the bill well.
- Charlene (10/5): - Always clean, staff are great. Best hotel in Dunbar.
- Shona (9/5): - Staff were so friendly, both at reception, in the bar area and throughout. They also made a big fuss of our young dog which was lovely Only drawback was the room felt slightly dated but was still a good standard and the bed was very comfortable
- Lauraine (9/5): We have had such an absolute delightful stay at the hotel. All members of staff were so friendly. I highly recommend a d - The staff was very warm and friendly. The hotel was very clean. Best experience in the restaurant, very talented Chef I could hear some crack on the ceiling when other customers above walk and or move
- young (10/5): -
- Muddasir Ahmed (10/5): - Excellent service and a very comfortable stay. The team was professional and helpful, ensuring I had the double bed I requested. The room was spotless and well maintained. It was also very convenient to have on-site parking available.
- alan112020 (10/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely hotel - We stayed here a couple of nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners were good fun and very attentive. Rooms are recently refurbished and beautiful. Restaurant is also fabulous Great value.
- Pete (10/5): Expectations exceeded. - Good central location with plenty of free parking.
During booking and in person all staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful.
On arrival, my room was upgraded from a single to a spacious double, at no extra charge, as there was no other person requiring it.
The room was clean and well decorated with all expected consumables; it had good lighting options.
Bathroom contained electric shower over bath which had very controllable / stable temperature and variable spray head.
Very enjoyable stay. All good; my needs met better than at some of the more expensive locations I've used.
- Howard Kiernan (10/5): Overnight stay in Dunbar - Dunmuir Hotel is a very pleasant AA recommended small hotel in Dunbar with a good restaurant for dinner and also serves an excellent full Scottish breakfast! This was ideal for my overnight stop on the way to the north of Scotland. The room had a comfortable bed and ensuite bathroom which gave a good night's rest before continuing the road journey in the morning. Dunbar is an interesting place in which I had not stayed before, and would hope to return at some point, having just time to look at the town, and the view from the old battery out to sea, after checking out, before resuming on the way north. No problems for me with the overnight stay as a single traveller in own vehicle.
- Rosalyn (7/5): Staff was friendly only used to room to sleep as I was working long hours in the power station. - Room was clean and warm, shower was hot, free tea and coffee in the room The bed creaked every time I turned over, and was so uncomfortable. Door to the room could be up graded for security with spy hole and more than just a chain
- X870WHmichellep (10/5): A fine place to stay! - We were booked to stay for three nights but unfortunately had to leave a day early due to illness.
We ate at the restaurant for both nights and husband reported that his food was excellent and to quote " THE best cheese and biscuits he has EVER had"! I had a starter both nights and they were very good... The mussels were plump and tasty rivalling our home county of Norfolk..... Praise indeed!! Breakfast was freshly cooked and the doggie sausage was a nice gesture...a truly dog friendly place.
My only recommendation would be to dispose of the unsealed, refilled marmalade and jam jars... I understand that it might be a cost saving but it isn't a good look! Far better to invest in a nice bowl and bring out with the toast on request. Also upgrade your jam! It's the little touches that will earn that 2nd award that is so richly deserved 👍🏼
Staff were great, Wendy in particular. Very personable. The only slightly negative was our room was very small with very little storage so felt cluttered.
All in all, great VFM and we would definitely stay again.
Thank you
- Samantha (10/5): What a find - decorated to a very high standard I would call it a boutique hotel - Lovely hotel - room was stunning staff were very welcoming- thoroughly recommend Nothing!
- Ammo (10/5): Amazing - rooms were very clean and neat. breakfast was served to us almost immediately and orders werer always taken the night before. dinner was also amazing could not fault anything with the hotel. n/a

- Shakirudeen (10/5): -
- Edith (9/5): -
- Julia (10/5): Absolutely excellent, beautifully decorated, clean and the evening meals were very good. - The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. We were upgraded room as soon as we arrived, at no extra cost. The bed was huge and very comfy. I would have preferred a bath rather than a shower, but otherwise I wouldn't change anything.
- Alban (7/5): - Noisy
- Ross (8/5): -
- Aiison (9/5): -
- Paul (7/5): Value for money. - Neat the sea Was nothing we didn't like.

- Kevin (10/5): Would use this hotel again. - Very clean.
Excellent room.
Good location.
Great price. Nothing.
- Mcyrt (10/5): Highly recommended! - This was our second stay at this hotel this year. It has been very comfortable on both occasions- lovely big rooms, friendly staff, comfy beds and fluffy towels, great breakfast which is reasonably priced and lots of options, including catering for gluten free. We have family in the area so will be staying again whenever we come up for a visit. Highly recommend!
- Stuart (9/5): - Lovely hotel. Great food and comfy room. Staff really helpful and cheery too. Nothing
- David (9/5): An enjoyable weekend all round - Hotel was excellent in all respects; bed extremely comfortable, en-suite very modern and clean with good shower. My wife felt the TV could have been more modern but I disagree - there was nothing wrong with it
- Saira (10/5): - Very friendly staff. Very clean, breakfast excellent As much as we enjoyed our stay the room we were in was very dated. I did see the rooms on the ground floor looked like they'd had an upgrade. The price paid for a remote town off peak was fairly expensive.
- Neil (7/5): -
- Philip (8/5): -
- Charlene (10/5): - Always friendly, super clean. Ive stayed here a few times. Highly recommended. Food is always amazing too.
- mark (10/5): Life savers - Fantastic hotel
Staff
And bar
- Janette (8/5): Enjoyable & comfortable - Food was good Shower curtain clings as you shower and noise from room s around & above on one night- sound insulation not too effective.
- Karen (10/5): -
- Hayley (8/5): A friendly, comfortable and enjoyable stay. - We were travelling up from London on a late Thursday night which meant we would arrive in the reception's closing hours. Philip was so helpful and accommodating with our late arrival and had great communication throughout.
During our stay, all staff members were so helpful and friendly. The breakfast was enjoyable (albeit you must book the day before). Our room was very clean and comfortable - we were lucky enough to be upgraded which was a bonus. The location is also very central and only a short walk from the high street. The hotel is a little tired and could do with some refurbishments in areas, but otherwise there is nothing not to like.
It would be good if you could decide to have breakfast on the day as sometimes you're not sure of your plans.
- DimasLaksani (10/5): A Cozy and Peaceful Stay in the Heart of Dunbar - I stayed at the Dunmuir Hotel during my solo trip to Dunbar, Scotland, and it turned out to be one of the most relaxing parts of my journey. The hotel blends traditional Scottish charm with modern comfort, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere from the moment you walk in.
The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, making check-in quick and pleasant. My room was spotless, cozy, and had everything I needed: a comfortable bed, clean bathroom, tea and coffee facilities, and reliable Wi-Fi. The breakfast was excellent — freshly cooked Scottish options alongside continental choices, served in a bright and calm dining room.
The location is also a big plus. It’s about a 10-minute walk from Dunbar Station, close to the beach, and within easy reach of key attractions like Dunbar Castle and Belhaven Beach. The area feels peaceful and safe, ideal for solo travelers like me who enjoy walking around on foot.
Overall, Dunmuir Hotel is a great place to stay if you’re visiting Dunbar. It offers comfort, convenience, and a touch of local hospitality that makes your trip feel special.
- Catriona (8/5): - Cosy, friendly hotel in a great location. Breakfast was excellent.
- thomas (10/5): -
- martina (8/5): -
- Suzanne (9/5): Lovely friendly hotel in a quiet area. - Our room was upgraded on arrival and it was a really nicely decorated and furnished room with a big bathroom. Nothing
- Sheila (9/5): Lovely stay, lovely staff. Would stay here again - Beautifully decorated room, very clean N/a
- Nick (9/5): Friendly and helpful staff in a hotel offering great value for money - Very friendly and helpful staff; excellent breakfast; comfortable room; good value for money All good although shower could have been better (more powerful).
- Simon (10/5): Flawless attention to detail in the room and food. - Breakfast was perfect, even for us pescatarians. Attention to detail in everything was flawless. Decor in room was new and 1st class, all the staff were super friendly, even to our dog Hugo. Highly recommended. Nothing.
- Bailey (9/5): Will be back...for sure. - Lovely small hotel, easy access, lots of parking in such a pretty street. Asda nearby in case you've forgotten something. The room was very comfortable, warm and cosy, very clean and good linen. The towels were huge, divine. The bar is small but pleasant and nice decor throughout this hotel. I will visit again.....very nice stay. Thank you. Not enough tea bags in the room, I only drink tea so 4 teabags for 2 people overnight is not enough in my opinion.
- Jessica (10/5): -
- Monica (10/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): - Lovely warm friendly welcome, gorgeous dining facility and super quality food and attention to detail.
- charlesdL4548NR (10/5): Comfortable and Friendly - We booked a twin room but didn't realise that the Hotel had standard and superior rooms. Our room had a shower, but we had wanted a bath tub. We spoke to the Manager on arrival who said he couldn't do anything about it on the first day, but would transfer us to a superior room the next morning. He did not charge us any extra and the superior room was very smart, spacious with a lovey bath tub. It was indeed very comfortable.
Throughout our stay the food was plentiful, delicious and well presented. It was indeed a very comfortable stay.
Dunbar town itself is rather small, but it was nice to see the Harbour, the cafe in Victoria Park (who also fed us well) and the High Street which boasted many independent shops and cafes.
- Allan (7/5): -
- Camille (6/5): - Well-located hotel with a cozy appearance and a delicious restaurant. No soundproofing in the rooms — you can literally hear every movement from the neighbors and people in the hallway. The bedding is mediocre. Hygiene needs improvement; the cleaning is very questionable, especially in the bathroom.
- Andrew (6/5): -
- Michelle (10/5): amazing place for first alone trip - the staff were friendly an helpful the room was stuffy with it been small also the door lock wasn't great
- Yvonne (5/5): We couldn’t sleep the room was too hot and people made a noise - Friendly visitors lovely area the breakfast was a great price friendly staff at the bar The room side too small to move around the shower didn’t work too well had a bath instead too hot in the Dunmuir hotel
- Donna (9/5): -
- macfarlane (7/5): -
- Julie (10/5): Comfortable and cozy - Location to city centre was just a short walk
- Laurynas (9/5): -
- Freda (9/5): It was ok for a one night stay - Comfortable room The view
- Michael (7/5): Decent Hotel - Clean, modern spacious rooms Should have been made clear that the restaurant is closed on a Wednesday.
I wouldn’t have booked had I known
