Guest Reviews
- Jablonka (8/5): People were great and the included breakfast was very nice - Excellent location and parking. The back yard area is very nice as is the bar, lounge area and breakfast area. The hallway smelled of fish the afternoon we arrived but the smell was pretty much gone by evening

- Joanna (10/5): Beautiful Inn! - What a beautiful place - a little slice of history in the heart of Marblehead! We visited for our anniversary, and the staff upgraded our room. They were kind, helpful, and communication couldn't have been better. Our room was a dream - spacious, comfortable, and clean. Highly recommend!
- William (10/5): Wonderful stay in Marblehead, Mass!!! - The location of Harbor Light Inn in Marblehead, MA perfect- close to everything and tons of parking on-site. The staff were exceptional and beyond friendly and helpful. They suggested several places to dine and see in the area. The room we stayed in was beautiful and comfortable. We would stay here again.
- christinemP7975KX (10/5): All the comforts of home in a lovely, historic inn - Charming, beautiful inn, conveniently located in the heart of Marblehead. Easy walk to shops and restaurants. Rooms were clean and cozy. Breakfast was delicious— among the very best I’ve had in an inn. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

- Konrad (10/5): - Amazing hospitality in beautiful Marblehead. We had to check out very early...we would have loved to stay longer!
- Quest56338369872 (10/5): Amazing Place and Staff! - I'm a local resident and I always send visitors here. This week I moved into the Inn to escape the blizzard. Cassandra and Matt were so welcoming and reassuring during a stressful time. The beautiful atmosphere of this Historic Inn and their kindness...gave me a great memory of the Blizzard of 2026.
- gaylec936 (10/5): Valentine’s Get Away - Wonderful Valentine’s Day weekend at the Harbor Light Inn. The atmosphere was great - cozy, comfortable and very clean rooms. Charming breakfast buffet and treats for the weekend. Loved walking through the historic area in town. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway!
- Lisa savino (10/5): - Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was fresh.
- jilljohnson213 (10/5): Best of marble head - We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Harborlight Inn. From the time we checked in, we were greeted cheerfully by one of the owners and give them recommendations of where to visit and eat in the Marblehead area. We’re also treated to the holiday party that evening. The location is fantastic. The rooms are nicely appointed the staff is excellent. The continental breakfast in the morning is delicious. I could go on and on and on. I look forward to my next visit.
- Rebecca (7/5): - Location is great for walking around old town. Room was comfortable and staff accommodating. Breakfast buffet did not include any hot breakfast selection as in years past. Bar was very noisy and crowded.

- Morgan (9/5): Beautiful hotel in a beautiful area! - The building was beautiful and homey! The rooms were nicely decorated and the beds were cozy. Breakfast was in a beautiful space and the food was great! Very little, the only thing was we booked a room with a fireplace. We have one room and the fireplace didn't work. Then were were placed in another room and given a duraflame log and it smoked up the room. It made everything smell like smoke. But, it definitely added to the experience and made a memory. We loved the place and would definitely stay there again.
- Diane (10/5): A great place , good parking and in a pretty location. - The location was fantastic. Marblehead really surprised us with its beautiful houses. Accommodation was great as were all the staff. Nothing
- Jared (10/5): Beautiful - Everything! Having to go home.

- pfttraveler (10/5): Best place to stay to beat the crown - A great little hotel. Extremely clean and an excellent staff. I would stay here every time I am in the area. Also has a pool and parking. Ferry service to Salem is nearby too.
- Grace (9/5): -
- Jerry (10/5): - My wife and I enjoyed this place. It was like taking a trip back in time. The staff was informative and helpful. The Inn was clean and tidy. If I were to drive back to Marblehead I would only be staying there. Thank you for making my wife's and myself anniversary special.
- Suni (8/5): Cozy, historical house - Great location in a historical house For the price I would have expected a cooked breakfast
- Lisa (10/5): - The property had old charm with modern conveniences. The breakfast was well laid out and the bkft staff was very attentive.
- George (10/5): It was Absolutely Perfect, the staff were Amazing so helpful . - Everything…
It was Wonderful !! Nothing
- Tyrell (10/5): - Absolutely amazing!
- James (10/5): - Pool was closed for the season but the pool atea was relaxing and welcoming
- Jennifer (9/5): Absolutely will stay here again. Just beautiful with a lovely staff. - Gorgeous property and wonderful location. Loved the little tavern downstairs! The walls seem pretty thin, so the noise from other folks walking around is pretty loud. Mostly, everyone tried to be respectful and quiet at night time though.
- rachelr642 (10/5): The most charming Inn ever! - My husband and I did a several-day road trip around New England in late September (2025), and the Harbor Light Inn was one of the overnight stays we booked. It was amazing!! It was, by far, my favorite place we stayed on our trip - so much so that I was disappointed we weren't staying additional nights!
It's exceptionally charming, quaint, lovely, and tucked right in the middle of the historic district (meaning it's easily within walking distance to a lot of local sights). And all the staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and kind. Will you need to potentially haul your luggage up a few flights of narrowing staircases to your room? Yes. Is it worth it just to say here? Absolutely yes!! And even though this part of Marblehead can be a little challenging to navigate via car (narrow streets, one-ways), they have easy (!!) parking right on-site.
We stayed in one of the Fireplace rooms, and it was cozy, comfortable, with plenty of room to relax, and all the amenities a hotel room needs.
We will absolutely be looking for a reason to head back to the region again, and when we do, we won't hesitate to book at Harbor Light Inn again. And for more than one night next time!
- Brittany (10/5): - Incredible place! We only got to spend one night here but will definitely be back.
- beth0928 (10/5): OUTSTANDING Inn and Staff!! - What a lovely quaint inn, just what you would expect in the historic town of Marblehead! We were so impressed with the charm, cleanliness and beauty of the Harbor Lights Inn. You can tell it is professionally maintained and managed with an impeccable staff. The breakfast was outstanding and our room was extremely quiet (#37). Carolyn was especially helpful looking for my husband’s iPad we thought he left behind. Just an indication of how devoted they are to the wellbeing of their guests! Thank you for such a fun and very memorable trip!!
- L131YNpaulg (10/5): Spend a Few Days in a Historic House - For those interested in historic buildings, the Harbor Light Inn is a stellar experience. The two ingeniously linked houses are beautifully furnished to evoke the late 18th and early 19th centuries in which the they were built. Ask for a room in the original houses: rooms 31 and 32 are especially lovely and very quiet because of their 3rd-floor locations. Breakfast is beautifully served, and coffee, tea, and cocoa are available all evening long. The pool is a peaceful retreat behind the terrace. My only disappointment is that no one could explain how to locate broadcast channels (e. g., WGHB channel 2, Boston's famous PBS channel).
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Super quaint, peaceful, idyllic, historic Inn! Awesome location right in the middle of the Marblehead Historic District. We walked less than 5 min to dinner at The Landing and then to drinks at Maddie’s Sail Loft. Highly recommend!
- J3408UKmarilynm (10/5): Exquisite Relaxation - We are long time clients of The Harbor Light Inn and with each passing year the experience reinvents itself positively
The Inn is elegant with many spaces to unwind -dine and enjoy-
During the summer and early fall the pool provides a refreshing swim with a beautifully manicured backyard -During the fall and colder months cozy fireplaces add to the ambiance of the Inn-
Highly recommend-
Lastly -Cassandra and Carolyn go above and beyond to make any stay a comfortable and personable one
Looking forward to our next getaway
- T382RUjaneb (10/5): A Romantic New England Escape - My husband and I were looking for a quiet, romantic, adults only weekend away and found the most perfect getaway in Marblehead. We live in a very busy Rhode Island summer tourism area and wanted our own New England summer escape sans crowds. My search was “charming New England inn with a pool”. So essentially I stumbled upon Harbor Light Inn but it checked every box! A historic colonial inn from 1729. Wonderfully maintained and added onto. Meticulously manicured grounds, ample, free ,off-street parking, a charming garden with luxurious in ground pool. The inn is beautifully decorated & there are thoughtful touches throughout (lemon water dispenser, afternoon cookies, coffee & tea station). In the morning there is a lovely light breakfast included with your stay that consisted of things like fresh fruit salad, overnight oats, yogurt parfait, charcuterie, a different flavor of Bundt cake daily, bagels, etc. There are several dining areas to enjoy breakfast and a member of their lovely staff offers juice, & checks in on you throughout. We enjoyed the added feature of their small tavern that opens out to the garden in the afternoons for beverages and they have a menu of light bites as well. The inn is located perfectly in the Olde Town area of Marblehead and we didn’t get in our car for anything the whole weekend. Perfectly walkable to shops, parks, dining, ice cream and even a grocery store. Some of our favorite & repeat stops were Mookie’s at Mugford (lattes, pastries, sandwiches) Sistas Consignment, and 5 Corner Kitchen (so good we cancelled our other dinner reservations for the second night to eat at 5 Corner Kitchen again!). Salem is only a couple miles away, but I beg you not to sleep on Marblehead she is a gem in her own right! We can’t wait to go back to Harbor Light Inn next year if not sooner!
- Kaitlyn (10/5): Charming, relaxing getaway with my husband! - Location is perfect and quiet. The room was cozy with the pool right outside. We enjoyed our coffee and breakfast on the patio in the morning and followed that with a swim in the pool. The entire stay was relaxing and I can't wait to go back! There really wasn't much we didn't like!
- jeffrey (9/5): -
- Dawn (10/5): - Great location for exploring Marblehead. Views of the harbour were fabulous.
We had great food in two restaurants within walking distance- The Landing and the Barnacle.
Spending time in the hotel pool and garden was paradise. A very enjoyable stay.
- Joe (10/5): -
- Paula (10/5): - Cute, quaint and friendly staff

- oceandreams08 (10/5): Excellent choice for a relaxing getaway - We were looking for an overnight rest-and-recharge getaway and this inn fit the bill to a T! Great location, quiet (I'm picky about noise and this matters a lot to me), helpful staff, rooms clean and well maintained. I was worried in an old building that we'd hear all the footsteps in the room above us, but at least when we were there, everyone was quite considerate. We heard some things during the daytime, but we didn't hear noise when we were ready to go to sleep.
We wanted to park and relax instead of drive around, so we walked to the nearby rocky coastline. Fort Sewall is a lovely spot and easy to walk to. We spent a couple of hours relaxing by the inn pool which was also nice. If you want the best sandy beach in Marblehead, it's a very short drive (and expensive parking in season, we didn't go).
We chose the inexpensive 2-double-bed room on the first floor, which is small but was quite adequate for our needs. I'm sure most of the other rooms are larger.
The shower was a bit tight but I suspect bathrooms in most of the other rooms are larger.
- HappyTravelers141 (10/5): - My husband and I spent a 2 night get away at the Harbor Light Inn in Marblehead Massachusetts. It was a wonderful seaside getaway. The room was #34 queen bed smaller room with a roof top patio with comfortable outdoor furniture with umbrella. The patio had great views and so enjoyable early morning and sunset. The continental breakfast was perfect set in a light, bright room looking out over the patio and pool. There is a small bar and Saturday night soft music on the patio. There are wonderful restaurants and shops close to the Inn. Great area for walking by the sea. Relaxing stay and will be back.
- GrandTour811558 (10/5): Delightful New England Comfort - My grandmother had lived in Marblehead many years ago, and I wanted to go back and get a sense of "home." Wow, the Harbor Light Inn was so warm and welcoming, with the delightful staff, the flickering fire in the lounge. Breakfast was delicious and homemade. There was always fresh cold water, coffee and baked goods to help yourself. Lots of places to relax. I swam in the pool every day. We ordered drinks at the bar. Sat by the fire circle in the evening. The room was lovely. We loved the town, the coast, the harbor and the restaurants.
- Wendy (9/5): My stay was comfortable and rejuvenating in a beautifully decorated inn. - Great location. Cozy. Lack of movie channels
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice place but room way too small! - This is a very quaint hotel (there are only 2 'hotels' in Marblehead). The staff were very friendly & helpful, and the main floor (sitting room, dining room, little bar, outdoor greenspace with pool and firepit) was beautiful and spacious, so all good there. However, our room (room 31) was extremely small for two people and their belongings. There was nowhere to put anything! The small dresser was mostly taken up with a Keurig & telephone and the nightstands had lamps with large bases, so they took up most of the space. The bathroom was tiny, with only a 2" shelf above the sink to place anything on it. In addition, the air conditioning window unit was extremely loud; every time it kicked on during the night, it woke us up. This room for two nights was over $800. Another member of our group stayed at a great Airbnb which was quite spacious and had a full kitchen, for almost half the price of Harbor Light Inn. My advice would be to check around before booking lodging in Marblehead.
- MM25000 (6/5): Needs to be spruced up - This hotel charges between $250-$350 per night for small apartments in a separate building from the hotel. Mine was quiet, and it's a great location steps from the main hotel. However, the apartments need to be spruced up. A lot.
My room had a VERY old tv in the bedroom (circa 1990) that only had one working channel. My room had a huge stain on the carpet , mouse traps under the bathroom and kitchen sinks that were also full of foam to block holes, and old, noisy portable air conditioning units in the windows.
The hotel needs to spend a little money on the basics to improve the guest’s experience.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gary (10/5): - Very glad we found this unique B&B. Quiet, comfortable and romantic.

- maureendR6235HS (10/5): A gracious historic Inn in the heart of Marblehead. - We attended a wedding in Marblehead and the Harbor Light Inn was recommended! What a lovely, historic Inn, with wonderful and doting staff, delicious breakfast with fresh fruits and home baked goodies - a lovely pool and yard with outdoor seating enhanced the downtown space. A cozy private bar made us feel we stepped back in time to the 19th century. We did not want to leave.
All the Marblehead sites were in walking distance. Highly recommend.
- Anne (8/5): Very enjoyable - Staff very helpful and friendly Although lovely wasn’t quite as I thought it was going to be from the advertising photos.
- Suzanne (10/5): - The staff were great. Loved the in-house tavern, pool, and patio!
- Susankm22 (10/5): Cozy and relaxing - Had an absolutely lovely time at the Harbor Light Inn. The room was quiet, very clean and comfortable. The staff was attentive and the breakfast was nice. The inn is in walking distance to shops, restaurants, and the water. Salem is only 15 minutes away. Would definitely stay again.
- Mary (10/5): - Great lovely stay..fabulous location, love the evening tavern for a drink..wonderful historic inn.
- Tammey (10/5): - Beautiful Inn!! Wonderful staff, breakfast and easy walking to area shops and restaurants. Would highly recommend!
- Pat (9/5): We enjoyed our stay at the Inn in beautiful Marblehead. - The staff was very helpful. The Inn is in beautiful, historic building, not far from the ocean and located near other notable historic buidings The breakfast was exceptional and everything was fresh and delicious. The pool looked inviting, but it was too chilly to swim.. Grounds are meticulously kept. The room was small and a ittle stuffy. I would have appreciated a desk or some flat surface to write on. The stairs are steep and the driveway up to the Inn is also steep. The staff did offer to carry our bags. We didn't need the extra help but appreciated the offer anyone with mobility issues would be challenged.
- Vacationer272743 (10/5): Wonderful experience in Marblehead - Beautiful 18th century house restored as a B&B. Room, amenities, hospitality all exceeded our expectations. I must also thank to Tracy and Cassandra for their warm welcome. And the breakfast!... the best we ever had in the US... many thanks
- Hakan (10/5): A perfect B&B in Marblhead - Everything... Nothing
- Rosemary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (10/5): A lovely few days with friends - The location was great and the Inn was lovely. We were very happy with our stay.
- Marjorie (10/5): Best place to stay to be in the heart of Old Town. - Pretty rooms, very clean, nice staff, good breakfast and nice small bar.
- Glenn (5/5): disappointed. got tired of looking at those boring wooden boats above the fireplace. get a tv! - very clean, comfortable bed and pillows wifi did not work all weekend. 2nd time staying with you and this happened again. not acceptable. 15 inch tv on side wall in room was a joke especially when there was space to put a large tv above the fireplace. breakfast was weak and a big disappointment. you charged a lot of money for the room and cheaped out on breakfast. the orange juice was by request and undrinkable. breakfast should be ready and start at 6:30 at the latest. maybe buy a waffle machine. if comfort inn can do that so can you. great muffin shop down the street. cut a deal with them and provide those muffins. the little creamers are not the way to go. you have a beautiful inn; spend a few bucks more a and make the breakfast special. my sentiments were echoed by others who sat near us for breakfast.
- Deborah (10/5): Superb - The bed was the most comfortable I have ever had in a hotel. The staff was courteous, friendly, and helpful. The warm had a warm welcoming feeling. Superb.
- Simon (10/5): Relaxing - Everything, from check-in through check-out..
- Michelle (9/5): Great find in a beautiful historic town - A wonderful find in the beautiful Marblehead. We were warmly greeted and provided with loads of useful information on where to eat and drink in Marblehead during our stay. An very friendly place . Breakfast was included - not a cooked breakfast if that's your thing, though what was on offer was a good variety of items both healthy and filling.
All the staff were super friendly. There was also a bar, though we did not have a chance to go there - it seemed very lively when we walked past - so somewhere to explore on our return.
Location was great for a lthe main things to see and go in Marblehead. They also have their own parking area off the street. Th ebuilding itself is from the 1700s and seemed like a tardis inside of cosy rooms, nooks and crannies to sit and read in. Not a negative for us, however, be aware some rooms are upstaires with no lift (its a wonderful old building), so if this is important to you be sure to request a ground floor room.
- Michael (10/5): - Very beautiful inn with lovely staff, amenities, and great town to spend a weekend in for a couple. The breakfast and midday pastry were delicious.
Comfy beds, cozy fireplace, and very clean rooms.
- Roam798464 (10/5): Charming comfortable Inn - We throughly enjoyed our two night stay . Never having been to Marblehead, we were thrilled with the location of the inn; walkable to everything, with convenient parking behind the inn. Our room was small but well appointed and comfortable with two windows to allow in fresh air. The public rooms are charming and inviting. It felt more like staying in a friend’s home than a hotel.
- Dorothy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shannon (10/5): Exceptional - Great stay, beautiful property & a helpful and lovely family run team.
- Jugiebelle (9/5): Pretty Bed and Breakfast in a cute town! - I really liked the cozy bar area. The parlor and sitting areas were very well appointed and they lit the fireplace for us. Breakfast was a typical continental breakfast, but good.
- O (9/5): Superb -
- mcgrailem (10/5): Can’t Wait to Come Back!! - Absolutely loved our stay at this charming coastal inn! The location couldn't be better—just a short walk to shops, restaurants, and the ocean. It made exploring the area so easy and enjoyable. The staff was truly outstanding—so friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. They answered all our questions and made sure we felt completely at home.
The inn itself has such a cozy, classic New England feel—warm, inviting, and full of character. Every morning started with a delicious breakfast that we looked forward to, and the cute little bar was perfect for winding down with a cocktail in the evening.
We had a fantastic experience and would absolutely go back again. Highly recommend!
- caml852 (10/5): Cozy happy inn, close to everything! - Tucked away in a quiet corner of a coastal New England town, this charming inn was the perfect getaway. Cozy and quaint, it felt like staying in a friend’s beautifully kept historic home. The rooms were warm and inviting, with just the right mix of comfort and character—think soft linens and antique touches.
Breakfast each morning was a real highlight—baked goods, warm coffee, homemade granola, overnight oats, served in a sunny, homey dining room with a view of the pool.
The location was also ideal—just a short walk to the shops, art galleries, and cafés. We barely used our car the entire weekend.
What really stood out, though, was the staff. Everyone we encountered was genuinely kind and welcoming, offering great local recommendations and making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived.
If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat with charm to spare, this inn is a gem. We’re already planning our next visit.
- christinemE6808NZ (10/5): The perfect New England getaway! - Our stay at the Harbor Light Inn in Marblehead was incredible! It’s a charming bed and breakfast that perfectly captures classic New England charm. The rooms are unique and beautifully decorated that feel both cozy and elegant. The location couldn’t be better—just a short walk to the waterfront and all the quaint shops downtown. The coffee is absolutely deliciously, I had several refills, and the breakfast pastries equally as tasty. The staff were warm and welcoming, making the entire experience feel personal and relaxing. It was hard to leave and I can’t wait to come back!
- Luv2Travel_Go (6/5): An Inn of the past - We enjoyed this classic Bed & Breakfast 2 years ago, so decided to return. While the Inn appeared to be physically the same, we were surprised to find out that they were no longer serving their exceptional, hot breakfast with such dishes as quiche, among other egg dishes, bacon/sausage, homemade scones, muffins, etc. Instead, there was a completely cold buffet with yoghurt in plastic cups, cold cereal, etc. as one would expect to find in a lower level hotel/motel as a complementary breakfast. We found that this significant change unfortunately lowered this Inn to a very ordinary level. In addition, we found our mattress & pillows to be lumpy & in need of replacement, along with a very noisy (old) heater installed in the wall. The staff seemed less personable than our last visit & never even addressed us by name. As a final point, it was surprising that we were charged a gratuity on our bar charges without our consent. When we checked out, we were not asked whether we enjoyed our stay. Sadly, at the rate this Inn has deteriorated, it can no longer uphold its banner as a classic Bed & Breakfast, as it lacks the heart & soul it once had.
- Gianna (10/5): Would come back anytime - Clean, friendly staff and guests, great sheets
- Giovanna (10/5): -
The service was friendly and had a warm, homey feel.
The place itself is beautiful and has a charming, unique character due to its age. My husband would have liked to see omelets or scrambled eggs offered at breakfast—he missed having the typical warm breakfast we usually enjoy at bed and breakfast places.
I would reccomend this place for sure

- Robin (10/5): An inn with old world feeling. - This is a property, with it’s quirky layout and loving attention to detail, that lets you feel as though you are in the 1700’s. It was a pity, especially considering the Inn’s strict none-of-your-own-alcohol-in-the-rooms policy, that on returning on a Friday night at 10 p.m. the bar was closed.
- Vacation06977555258 (10/5): Off season is perfect! - Outstanding service, a delightful visit. Totally worth going in the off season. I think on one of the nights we might have been the only guests in the whole place. The breakfast was still delightful. We also got a great deal when booking directly on the website taking advantage of their winter special. We took a late night stroll through the empty streets under the full moon and it was really special. We saw no one else. It was romantic and memorable.
- Victoria (10/5): - I can't recommend this lovely place highly enough! Everything was delightful, and the location is excellent. The hosts were very helpful and accommodating. I had a great time.

- jeanneq2023 (10/5): Highly recommend this lovely inn! - Very comfortable, clean, beautifully decorated accommodations. We thoroughly enjoyed our spacious room and huge bathroom with jetted tub. The staff was very friendly and helpful. So many sitting and lounging areas to sit with your breakfast, a cup of coffee or a cocktail. The tavern was very intimate and inviting. Location was perfect. Being new to Marblhead, we explored the whole area without moving our car. Many great restaurants and bars all within walking distances and great views. We even enjoyed ice skating on Redd's Pond one afternoon! Great historical sites, including the Fort Sewall and Burial Hill. On one of our walks we watched the lobstermen coming in to unload. Highly recommend, without question!
- Rhonda (10/5): Exceptional - The Inn was nicely decorated and warm and cozy. The staff was very welcoming. The small bar area was a bonus! The appetizers and champagne were a festive touch. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The buffet/continental breakfast was plentiful with many delicious items. We would highly recommend. Everything was perfect!
