Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (2/5): - There was chew cups, blunt wrappers, cigarette and cereal left in the room..so leave me to believe the room wasn't cleaned and the bedding was dirty! Wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Very nasty inside and out
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I didn’t like anything about this property, bed sheets were not clean, property was a hangout spot for random people, and no breakfast or amenities.
- brenda (2/5): Pubic hairs in the bathroom - It was so terrible the door was kind of broken and had lock rigged on it did not feel safe at all then I go to the bathroom and there are someone's pubic hairs on the toilet, floor and bathtub you could see stains on every piece of furniture in there. the curtains didn't even cover the whole windows so people could look in at you overall a terrible experience we never even unpacked we went and canceled the reservation and instead of canceling it the receptionist charge my card a second time never again
- Verified traveler (4/5): - broken door, lights, sink - tap, no mirror in washroom, no coffee maker
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff was friendly, helpful and kind.
Restaurant serves the best food, very professional staff and crew.
- Unhappy (2/5): - This was the worst decision I’ve made... the whole placed smelled like weed and smoke. They didn’t even have air freshener to help me spray down the place. I asked and she didn’t even a) have any at all or b)ignore my request.
I wouldnt go there .. I didn’t even go under the covers ... I made a pillow with my jeans jacket and regular jacket and slept on the bed. Never again...
- D (8/5): - Good price, good location, big bed and a tv. I came from out of town to see a concert at Reggie's just a short Uber away. No complaints. As long as you are open-minded and realistic with what you are paying, this is a great bargain.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was clean.
- Maigaskiya (8/5): - I came from Nigeria for a conference. The venue is about 8 mins drive away. Therefore I needed a cab to drop and pick me up. The hotel management connected me with a driver that I trusted and was very helpful to me. The Manger of the hotel displayed high sense of hospitality and was always there to attend to our my needs. Another aspect I liked was the restaurant right next to the Inn. Great times indeed at Chicago. Capt Maigaskiya
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I like the location and staff. cleaning is good as well. The price is good. and a big room for a family. ; however, things are old no shampoo, there is no enough ice in ice machine
- Mona (10/5): - The room was big and spacecious. Slept well. Staff was nice. I will stay there again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Do not stay here - This was easily the worst place I've stayed in, and for ~$120 per night.
I booked through hotels.com, and when I arrived to the front desk, it took the woman 30~ minutes to sort through paper printouts to find my online reservation. I showed her my email confirmation, my hotels.com confirmation, my credit card notification (with charges from Amber Inn), and the woman didn't believe me until she found her paper printout. She calls her coworker and starts cursing and insulting them.
I finally get my key, and I walk toward my 'non-smoking room.' I check the room for working lights, water, any visible bugs near the bed, and what amenities are offered. There's a minor musky odor, which smells a little like bad marijuana, but I ignore it because it might be the next room.
No shampoo. No toothpaste. No hair dryer. Just 2 bars of soap. I call the front desk and she said, "ok, I'll have someone bring shampoo to your room." No one shows. 20 minutes later, I walk down to the front desk myself, and she tells me that they can't find the hairdryer, but that they have the shampoo. She radios in to the person she sent to find the shampoo and hairdryer, cursing at him, and then he says there's no shampoo OR hair dryer. "We out, we out." She mirrors him. I ask, what type of $120-per-night hotel doesn't have shampoo? I get told that "it's not a hotel, it's a motel."
I wake up from a bad night to find 6 bug bites on my leg. I guess the musky smell wasn't weed, but the bugs. Thanks.
- Brian (4/5): Paid too much for what it was! - Hotel is dated. Stayed in front (street side) and it was a bit noisy (sirens 24/7) but I do not think having a room in the rear off the lot would be any different. The towels were rough, the two little soap cakes were insufficient for two days (I did get more with no problem), ice machine didn't work, etc.
- Joselito (8/5): Very good - It’s a nice place and safe I sleep good.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The ladies at the front desk were extremely helpful and nice. But the hotel was not what we expected. Everything smelt like cigarettes. Even the non smoking rooms. No A.C throughout the hotel and The furniture was filthy . Did not enjoy our stay at all. Definently not worth what I paid !
- Verified traveler (2/5): Being overbooked was a blessing in disguise - I would love to tell you about my stay, but they waited until I was checking in around 8 pm to tell me they were overbooked and I didn’t have a room. No phone call, nothing. They were going to put me in their sister motel, even further south. Mind you, this is pretty south of the city. The neighborhood is terrible. The pictures are lies.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Ubicacion . La comodidad y facilidad de acceso a todo..
- Chanel (6/5): Large King room but NOT updated - I was disappointed with the room selected for me. i wanted a room over-looking the parking lot because those were the rooms with balcony's (1st & 2nd floor). I was not able to be accommodated. The staff is very friendly.
- Laura (6/5): Convenient option with train access to downtown - I attended a huge meeting in Chicago and a girlfriend joined me. I chose this hotel because the ones close to the Convention Center were already reserved or way too expensive for my budget. The neighborhood was clean, safe (Police station two blocks apart and a patrol on the block everyday). Three restaurants around the hotel, including one that offers breakfast m. The train Greenline was one block apart and it was conveniently at 10 minutes of my meeting. They have microwave and fridge but no coffee machine in the room. Attention was very good.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This place is a complete crap. Horrible staff Took over a half an hour to check in people didn’t have our reservation right never clean the room in between days leaking water in the bathroom didn’t send maintenance gave me some towels and told me to do it myself don’t ever stay here
- james (8/5): Little better than we expected. - It's not bad, it's not great. Would give it 3 stars but giving it 4 since it didn't have a bible in our room.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Isn't as nice as it looks online.
The TV was on the wall in a way that it couldn't be seen from the bed or the sitting area.
We were without power on our first night for about 3 hours.
Staff was rude.
No do not disturb sign for the door.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It’s terrible everything about it! Everything’s Unprofessional!
- Candise (10/5): - I love staying at this hotel, location is great and I'm in love with the BBQ place across the street.. I always stay extra days sometimes weeks.
- Candise (10/5): - I loved it , i booked extra nights
- GERTRUDE (2/5): bad bad bad - was not a good stay. second time at amber inn and it was not good.
- Lisa (2/5): - We did not like the area it was run down didnt feel safe. Room was old and not what appeared on pictures. I immediately asked for a refund after we looked at room. She only refunded one night had 2 pay for one night even though we didnt stay
- tarek (8/5): Good deal for the price - Still no kettle in the rooms
No shampoo refill
- Verified traveler (4/5): When you can't afford anything else - Entry door was falling off the hinges, only one light bulb in the entire Place worked, found a dirty hypodermic syringe on the bathroom floor, no coffee pot and when I called the desk to ask about it she told me there was a restaurant across the street. Rather Shady neighborhood, but cheap if you can't afford anything else
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Terrible condition....most things broke...staff unreasonable
- Danny (6/5): Marathon Stay - Close to the Green Line Indiana Station. Nothing appealing to do in the area. Got this room because it was the cheapest option for weekend of marathon.
- Hugo (6/5): - Ok hotel.in a middle of a neighborhood. .close to the green line. Could be better
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A hotel in Chicago not long before the trip can be *expensive* but the Amber Inn was reasonably priced and it was a really pleasant experience. The staff was friendly and my room had a lovely view. The pillows were SO FLUFFY, the room was spacious, and the bath had adjustable jets. Vivacious area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place to Stay - Nice place
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel/motel it's pretty good for a quick trip with friends, it's cheap, clean, has a good location, we took uber to and from Downtown and it was btw $9$12 dls. There is a restaurant next to the hotel wich it's pretty good.
Room has fridge and microwave, so you can bring beverages if you want to save some money.. The only bad thing I can say it is the light, one of the lamps in the room didn't work well.. We didn't have light at all but it wasn't a problem..
I recommend this hotel!!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I will never go to this kind of hotel. I didn’t expect that place is dirty.
- Carl (8/5): - Was in town for a basketball tourney. Hotel was convenient to playing location. No frills hotel, clean adequate room. Close to downstown. Fast food, stores & full scale supermarket close by. Centrally located to various bus & subway lines. I would stay there again
- Waymon (2/5): - I was told the hotel was full. Not true. I had to settle for a. higher priced room. The clerk informed me, once I booked through Expedia, I couldn’t change to the available lower priced rooms.
- Adriana (10/5): - LOVED LOVED LOVED AMBER INN! We're not gonna lie, my husband and I booked our room and then read the reviews and immediately wanted to cancel. But because we DON'T JUDGE, we decided to keep our reservation. Well, let me tell you all our room, and their staff especially MR. MILE'S, treated us like family. They always made sure we we're taking care of. Our room was very clean, jacuzzi tub, flat screen TV microwave and fridge.. basically it was very pleasant staying there. We already know wen we come back we will be staying here again. We love n miss Miles..please let him know the hippy long haired couple says Hi💕😘☮️🎡✈️ Miles, tell your wife we're happy we made a friend💕
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Didn’t have my reservation and was rude. Was told to call Expedia.
- Michael (8/5): - Historic neighborhood..best soul food restaurant in-house...super friendly service...
- harriet (2/5): - This was not a safe hotel. It was certainly not an inn. It was a motel with no amenities. The desk clerk functioned behind bulletproof glass. Never never never bring your children here. Sometimes you get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not as good as it looks - This hotel is not in a good area of town at all and about 20 minutes from downtown Chicago. There is a train station, close by, but you definitely don't feel safe walking there. The hotel is very outdated and dirty. We stayed in a room and on the second night, noticed a huge stain on half of the mattress. Got switched to another room, seems they knew about the stain, but booked us in the room anyways. The second room was ok. The second day after we switched to the new room, they didn't even clean it. Made the bed and left towels on the bed. Did not touch the bathroom and left dirty towels and didn't clean anything in the bathroom. Very dirty and not worth saving a little. Employees not very friendly either. Would not recommend.
- Gabriela (2/5): Horrible neighborhood - Horrible neighborhood
Microwave with no plate,no working at all
Ac no working properly
Room so stinky and dirty
They don’t clean the room for 3 days even I requested
No phone in the room every time I need something had to go downstairs
We didn’t feel safe at all
For the price that we paid you should remove that site from your web NO WORTH IT
- Raymond (10/5): - Brilliant staff would use again
- Karl (6/5): Nothing fancy but it works - The hotel is priced about right. It isn't fancy, the room is spacious and I had a good nights rest. The carpet needs to be cleaned and I noted that the window casing is rotting. It is located not far from many of the attractions in down town Chicago.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room smelled of cigarettes although we asked for a non-smoking room!
- mike (2/5): Location is good but not well keept - Towels are in bathroom too old its lookslike washed but white color towels crumpled blenched color turned between white to yellow, floors dirty i remove my shoes i had to go to shower but it was disgusting only one hager in closet
- Frédéric (8/5): Do the job - Regarding the proximity of downtown and the price, it’s correct.
- christian (4/5): Nah... - Check in at 2p, room wasn’t ready. Got in the room and it was still other people’s trash. Staff was rude and not accommodating. Best part of the stay there was the close proximity to Perl’s Place. Great food!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I did not realize the area it was in. People were nice but I did not feel comfortable there.
- joe (6/5): needs updating. inside ok. secure parking. - over all ok. surrounding area kind of scary. some unsavory people out front. once inside it's ok. and there is a secure parking which is good. overall for the price can't complain.
- James (8/5): Comfort and Quiet - Liked the suite, whirlpool tub, size and comfort of the room. If I could get the same room next year I would re-book.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Walking distance to Guarantee Rate stadium. - Lights not plugged in. Sketchy neighborhood. Close to nothing else.
- Marc (2/5): Hotel should be in a crime movie - Showed up the the hotel and it reminded me of a really bad, seedy motel you see on movies where the police show up to arrest someone. Staff was very dis-organized and very un-professional. Just by standing in the lobby, a 6 by 6 room with i think was bullet proof glass and a little slot to slide money or credit card turned me off entirely. I did not feel safe and there was no way I was going to stay there let alone with my family.
- Surinder (10/5): Comfortable - Good
- Jennifer (4/5): Don't stay here. - Hotel is old and did not like the lack of security. My room did not have the extra security lock so dy not feel safe. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Only good thing was it was close to White Sox stadium and I was able to use Uber.
- Oladoyin (10/5): very nice rooms - I was surprised when i entered my room, it was better than i anticipated. The environment might not look great but the room's conditions were very nice. Spacious, love the bathroom. No breakfast though and the service wasn't all that great. Good proximity to the downtown Chicago at a reasonable price.
- Jennifer (8/5): Nice - I don't have anything to complain about. It's definitely not a great area, but we were fine. Chicago police does patrol their parking lot.
- Fred (10/5): - Every morning you came and clean my room they did a excellent job your front counter has respect for people who come in there like I said this is the best hotel I've been in since three years of coming down there I will Probably be be your number one customer
- Jeffery (2/5): never again - The images and descriptions on the website totally misrepresent this hotel. As I pulled into the lot there was, what looked like, a drug deal happening. The woman at the front dest looked at me as if I had two heads when I said i had a reservation. At first she couldn't find it. After that was settled I went to my room. It was spacious, but it looked like it had been used as a dorm room. The carpet was nasty. The bathroom was not pleasant and there was no mirror. When I got back from my evening out I went to brush my teeth and there was no water. I decided to call the front desk and found there was no phone. I looked for the hotel phone number on anything. I found it on the services guide. It was the wrong number printed on the guide. I then looked up the number on Hotels.com. When the clerk finally answered I advised her of the issue of no water she snapped "Yeah! I know. I'm the only one hear and there is nothing I can do about it." I informed her that I would not be paying for a room with no water. About two hours later the most horrendous noise awoke me. It was the return of water service.
I will not be staying at this place again, and I don't suggest you do either.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Toilet seat in bathroom was dirty, no soap first two nights, and no mirrors over vanity sinks.
- tarek (8/5): Inexpensive spacious room free WiFi - It's a walking distance from the green line train have a liquor store at the opposite side just at the corner. .some junkies and drunkard around. They didn't make me scared. .no decent food facilities near. Have good breakfast in pearl restaurant that belongs to the hotel. People are friendly. I enjoyed the biscuit bread they serve with breakfast and nice taste butter.
I ordered pizza I had to pay 22 dollars. Domino's pizza never answered and never succeeded to reach them.
They do not have coffee kettle but have a microwave that I never used in the room!!
- Brittany (6/5): - Our room was really nice and clean, but the area was really shady. A little overpriced but staff was nice and friendly.
- Philippe (4/5): OK hotel if you're on a budget - Not a fantastic hotel, but OK for the price. Area is pretty bad, expect to use cabs to and from the hotel for anything.
We didn't have any particular problem during our stay, but this is far from nice or comfortable.
- Ron (6/5): - At first glance it appears to be a motel, and it is. However, there is a 3rd floor, which can only be accessed by keycard. That floor is like a typical budget hotel. The room was clean and neat, though plain. Okay for a quick stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): It works - The hotel offered free parking which was semi secure, in that it was enclosed with only one way in and out. It was a short walk from US Cellular Field that felt safe for the most part. The room was a room and the overall hotel could use some attention. The rate was good based on it being just outside a major city. Access is just off a major highway. Which also made getting downtown easy. So if you are looking for a place to lay your head for a reasonable price, not pay $30 for parking, a short drive to downtown, this is a decent place.
- Catherine (8/5): - The room was very clean and quiet. I have stayed in many hotels and could hear sounds from other rooms. I didn't hear any here. The staff was competent and friendly. We would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): old and outdated - just a place to sleep we knew. older hotel, musty smell and carpet needs replaced. dirty bathroom, older sheets and a comforter with a burn hole in it. shady part of town, my mistake... won't stay here next time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Pleasant Stay - Had a Pleasant Stay. Relaxed Environment. Courteous Staff and excellent service.
- Verified traveler (2/5): disgusting - This motel should not be listed on your website. This motel had a bullet proof window in their "lobby" (which is a sign that you're in a bad neighborhood). My friends were scared to leave their vehicle in their parking lot. While the room itself was spacious, it was not clean. It looked as if they just tidy up the room. The lighting was terrible. It was very dim. There was left over food in the fridge not left by us. I couldn't even bare to shower in the bathroom, because it looked dirty. The bedding looked so old and the decorative pillows had stains on them. It was a horrible experience and I'll never recommend this place.
- Glenn (6/5): Low price accomodations, safe, on the subway line. - We were 2 adult Canadians wanting to spend a night in the city. We chose this motel because it had Free parking in the motel courtyard and it was steps from the Green Line train which runs due north to the heart of Chicago. On stafff security was visible at all times, the registration clerk provided lots of good advice. The room was simple and clean. Not recommended for the inexperienced, but fine for what we wanted. Second City was amazing and the Evil Olive was a crazy place to dance till 4 am, taxi back was under $20.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Unorganized office staff, outside of hotel was not attractive but once you get inside the room it's okay. Not sure if I would stay again.
- Casie (8/5): - Hotel was great for the price. Customer service was amazing and the owner is wonderful women. They were very in top of fixing our AC unit. Would reccomed this hotel.
