- Kathleen (10/5): Lovely experience all around at a lovely property - First, the staff were all very helpful, welcoming, efficient and professional. We were able to enjoy both the bar area and snacks, as well as the onsite restaurant. All were fantastic. The rooms we requested to be near each other were just across the hallway from each other, which was perfect. The rooms were beautifully decorated and the beds and bed linens were excellent. The Q Line (free) was easily accessible across the street, which made transportation to The Fisher and later to our dinner location easy and quick!

- Amy (4/5): Beautiful property - It’s beautiful building located close to everything. It was advertised as having air-conditioning, it did not have air-conditioning. The staff gave us a three hour runaround on mitigating actions to cool our room down from the 80° that it was. A box fan was given to us which brought it down to 76° for the night needless to say we did not stay for our entire booking and found a hotel that appropriately had the air-conditioning that was advertised.

- Victoria (10/5): - Even with all the hustle and bustle going on in downtown Detroit, walking through these doors transports you into a clean luxurious relaxing environment immediately. The decor was tasteful and the room accommodations were perfect.
- Johnson (8/5): Elegant historic gem in the center of the city - Property is gorgeous with a luxurious vibe. Excellent central location and truly wonderful staff. The water and water pressure in such an old building was typically poor. Shower didn’t really get warm but the sink was scolding hot. Water from the sink was also extremely cloudy.
- man73 (8/5): Weekend getaway - Placement in the city is always a plus. Came to see the Pistons vs Lakers game and it is only a 3 block walk to Little Caesar’s arena. Staff is very friendly only knock is the doors need to be level and plum. The room I was in was not great with the heat.

Especially the young man with the seahorse pin at the front desk. He even gave us free drinks, which were fantastic. I lived that there are little seating areas everywhere. Our room was the best, perfect for friends. Both sleep areas were great. I wish I lived here.

- W5320TZjustinr (10/5): Like stepping back into time - This is the best Hotel we have ever stayed at. It’s like stepping back into the past but with all the amenities of a modern hotel. All of the staff were very professional. The only down side that I can really say is, it’s kind of congested when pulling up to the hotel for valet. You forget all about it when you step through the doors and a pianist is playing live in a library/check in. Absolutely beautiful in there. There was a wedding that night and was a little loud in the living room area but we couldn’t hear a thing in the bedroom on probably the best bed I’ve slept on in years. We will definitely be back. Thank you to everyone and even the nice bell hop that we always seen in the elevator. Such a warm welcoming smile he had. Thank you!

Also close to a number of nice restaurants. The hotel has a large lobby with a great welcoming atmosphere. Our 6th floor room was well appointed, quiet and comfortable. The valet service was polite and efficient going in and coming out. The lobby bar was nice. We’d definitely stay here again when visiting Detroit.

- Destinee-griffin- (10/5): Fantastic stay! - We had a fantastic experience at David Whitney! The hotel is perfectly located, just a short, well-lit walk from the Opera House, Ford Field, and many lovely eateries. The hotel and rooms are not only gorgeous but also very CLEAN! Everyone was very friendly and accommodating, from Frank, who greeted us at the door, to each valet driver and front desk staff member. The beds were comfortable, and the rooms were quiet. Between the three of us, we could only come up with 2 small complaints. 1. The body wash was empty in the bathroom (Room 924), and 2. the K-Cup coffee in the room was undrinkable. But that may be to my advanced coffee palate! I would 100% stay here again.

- Lisa (9/5): Excellent date night stay downtown detroit - Upon checkin we were greeted by Evie. She gave us a kind and friendly welcome and provided excellent customer service. The lobby atrium is absolutely beautiful. The lobby is also comfortable and inviting with its fireplaces and comfortable seating. The room gave a vintage modern feel with nice touches throughout. The bed was comfortable and the room had a large window with a view of the city. We enjoyed it all :)

- A282IIkareng (10/5): Girls Night in the D to see Phantom - This hotel is beautiful and the location was amazing for our girls night out in the D! It was cold but we still walked to the Opera House which was a block away. Walked to Sexy Stwak (delicious) for dinner and to the Candy Bar (cool place with fancy drinks) for after show drinks. Our room was beautiful, large, and beds were very comfortable. We started our evening off with a few beverages in the hotel Library bar listening to an amazing piano player. The bar was very cozy and comfortable. We give this hotel a five star rating. We will definitely come again to stay!
- sydneyeannexy (10/5): 5 stars all around - My husband and I visited the David Whitney last year for his birthday and we enjoyed it so much we returned for my birthday this year. Eva and Tashia made not only our check in process easy and enjoyable but we were treated to an incredible upgrade that made this stay extra memorable. The downstairs restaurant has delicious menu options, in hotel coffee shop that delivers great lattes and overall stunning preservation of a historic staple of downtown Detroit. We will definitely be back.
- rwgrncrd (10/5): Excellent location. Good service - We spent two nights downtown to watch a Red Wings game and visit some favorite spots downtown. The locations of the hotel is perfect with roughly half a mile walk to everywhere. Even though we arrived at 1130pm we were taken care of by the front desk and the valet attendant. We were upgraded to a non-view suite which was a lovely room with living room and full kitchen. It faced the inner courtyard but we could still see it snow. The food and service at the restaurant was also good and the gym was very big and not just when I was there. No lounge but plenty of amenities in the hotel. Valet pickup was fast Sunday morning even though they were very busy at 1030am. Our new favorite spot in downtown Detroit.
- ivonag2026 (8/5): Nice place - The building itself has been beautifully renovated and with its art deco style creates quite sophisticated charm. However, there were no slippers in our room and the mattress on the king size bed, had a huge dent on one side, which made my sleep quite uncomfortable.

My husband and I came from Canada to get away for a night. The location, the architecture, the staff - (Mike at the desk, Kevin at the bar), the room, THE ROBES, all incredible. Really enjoyed the library bar and the lounge on the second floor. It's a vibe 🔥

- monolithtravels (8/5): Stunning Historic Restoration with Some Fine Tuning Needed, Lobby is the highlight. - My partner and I recently found ourselves stranded in Detroit due to a winter storm and chose the historic David Whitney Hotel for our stay. With our status we were pleased to be offered a complimentary upgrade to a full 1 bedroom apartment upon check-in to on the 11th floor. While the building is an architectural marvel, the experience was a blend of historic grandeur and some "new hotel" growing pains. The Pros: • The Architecture: The $100 million renovation is breathtaking. From the marble detailing in the lobby to the common areas on the second floor, it is easily one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. Particularly the hotel lobby is stunning. • The Upgrade: Our 11th-floor apartment was incredibly spacious. Having that extra room while dealing with travel delays was a major plus. Ours faced the atrium but we found it got a decent amount of light. • Exceptional Staff: The service is the hotel's strongest suit. Every staff member we encountered was attentive and went above and beyond to help us during our stay. The Cons: • Room Execution: Despite the beautiful wallpaper and trim, the room lacked sufficient lighting to actually appreciate the detail. We also noticed minor maintenance oversights, like a non-functioning nightlight and over-stove light. • Climate & Plumbing: The building felt quite drafty in the winter cold, and we had to run the heat on high to stay comfortable. Additionally, the water pressure was surprisingly low for a renovation of this scale. Adequate but low and over a long stay of more than 3 days, would get annoying. • Dining & Noise: The lobby bar is a highlight, but the in-hotel restaurant feels like it hasn’t quite "zeroed in" yet. The quality of our Beef Au Jus meat seemed to be 65% fat low grade meat, the French fries looked great but tasted like calamari or whatever seafood they were also frying. The cocktail and service were the highlight. I hope they get it zeroed in because it’s a beautiful space and looks into the lobby. Sound from the room hallways carries quite easily into the other rooms. Bottom Line: The David Whitney is centrally located and visually stunning, but it leans more "high-end corporate" than "intimate boutique." Given the high price point for Detroit and the minor practical issues, we decided to try a different boutique hotel for our second night of being stranded but were happy we spent the night.

Everything about the room was beautiful. The shower was wonderful and the bed was very comfortable. We also enjoyed a couple cocktails and appetizer at the bar and the bartender was great. Highly recommend this hotel.

- trstme (10/5): No Need for a Car — A Perfectly Walkable Stay in Downtown Detroit - We had an incredible stay at the David Whitney Autograph Hotel while in Detroit for a wedding at the Shinola Hotel last weekend. We wanted a comfortable suite with extra space and amenities, and Room 1111 was exactly that. The suite was beautiful and pristine, with a kitchen, living area, comfortable furniture and large windows that filled the space with natural light. The staff truly stood out. From check-in to departure, everyone was welcoming, attentive, and professional. Every interaction was easy and helpful. The location couldn’t have been better. The hotel is just one block from the Shinola, making it an easy walk—even in extremely cold weather. It’s right on Woodward Avenue, the main downtown street for shopping, dining, and exploring the city. We were also within walking distance of Comerica Park and Ford Field. We never needed a car the entire stay. Everything felt seamless, comfortable, and well cared for—an ideal choice for a wedding weekend or any downtown Detroit getaway.

The room phone had no advice on which button to press for reception, room services etc. When i ordered breakfast in my room, I did not expect it to be delivered in a plastic container with plastic cutlery. To be fair however, this may have been because I had indicated that I was isolating with the flu and the plastic may have been a safety response.

- Perfect_Fan_Food_Ser (8/5): Wonderful Stay - Attending an evening event in downtownDetroit, I decided to stay at this establishment. The hotel is located in a historic building with lots of history. Its design is a throwback to early 1900 architecture. It has a huge lobby area that has lots of seating. My check-in was easy. My room was a junior suite overlooking Woodward Avenue. It was splendid with lots of space. The seating area/living room had a television, couch, two chairs, and a coffee table. The bathroom had a wonderful feature. The shower & toilet were separated from the sink via a pocket door. The bedroom was large with a king-sized bed, television, bench, reading chair, and ottoman. It included a classic desk and chair. The towels and robes were soft, thick, and fluffy. Great stay!!

Emilee was kind, funny, and attentive to every single person. You can tell she loves what she does, and enjoys making peoples’ nights and drinks 100%!

The inside was absolutely gorgeous and you really felt like you were walking and staying in history The only drawbacks were that the bedroom in my suite didn’t have a door (although not a deal breaker) and there was a vent fan that was very loud and I couldn’t turn off. That also wasn’t a deal breaker but very annoying

Highly recommend the spot and ask for Kevin or Emilee to mix up your heaven in a glass!

- E7677VYallisond (8/5): Return Visitors - The David Whitney is a beautiful hotel and is perfectly located in downtown. The doorman is the best I’ve encountered. The rest of the staff isn’t as warm. The rooms are well decorated and beds are very comfortable. We’ve stayed twice for our annual Christmas trip and will continue returning. The restaurant was definitely a bit of a disappointment this time around, but it was a Monday morning so hopefully that was a one off experience.

- Paul (7/5): - The property, architecture, and furnishing were outstanding. Not only was everything beautiful to look at, it was comfortable and welcoming. Front desk staff had a mix up with our room not properly being assigned in the computer. Instead of calling to inquire, they opened our door (still secured with chain) and yelled into the room repeatedly to see who was inside. We had been traveling all day and were sleeping so it was an alarming way to wake up, to say the least. Because of this mixup, funds were held three times on our card (once for payment, once at check-in, and a third time when they discovered the employee at check-in had not assigned the room properly). I'm sure it was a miscommunication with staff, but it was incredibly frustrating for us.

The front desk staff was warm and welcoming from the start and everyone we interacted with during our stay was helpful and friendly. I highly recommend staying here for your trip to Detroit. We have stayed at the Book Cadillac as well but this is our new favorite. I know we'll be back!
- anthonynM1332VE (10/5): Library bar experience with Ali was so good and it was the best hotel bartender ally - We went to the bar and seen Ali and she was absolutely amazing. She took care of our group of 30 and not one of us waited longer than a minute for our drinks and they turned out great. She took care of us and stayed open a little later for us and I will be back just to see her and my company will be back to see her as well. You guys have a great person on your team. She gets a five star.
