- alliereed1 (10/5): Fabulous experience, great location, wonderful staff - We recently visited Lisbon and stayed at Santiago de Alfama for Christmas. The hotel was absolutely stunning- such unique architecture and beautiful views of the river. The breakfast at Audrey's was fabulous everyday. Rita checked us in upon arrival and gave us a warm welcome with interesting historical facts about the property. She was so kind and helpful. We also enjoyed cocktails at Manny's with our delightful bartender, Manuel. He was so kind and personable, telling us great stories and keeping us laughing all evening. Our stay was absolutely amazing and we were so grateful to spend Christmas here. Our only wish is that we could have stayed longer!
- Cathy046 (10/5): Perfection in Portugal - This was my second stay at Santiago de Alfama. I was warmly greeted by the Reception Staff. My room was perfectly appointed - dual aspect. Some amazing sunrises over The River Tagus. The bed linen & toiletries are high end. Bruno is a Master Mixologist. His cocktails are superb. Henrique is an outstanding Maitre D & Sommelier his wine choices perfectly complemented my delicious meals. The timing of the breakfast service was perfect for vacation - a 7.30 start but served until mid day. There was a number of choices. The breakfast servers were all delightful. I think the secret to this hotel is that the staff are all good at their jobs & enjoy making the customers happy. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel & I hope to return next year.
- Churrotherapy (10/5): Amazing! - I really cannot speak more highly of this property and the amazingly hospitable staff! The property itself is stunning — plenty of history, especially cozy, and in the best part or Lisbon. The views are also quite stunning, and rooms are spacious. I cannot speak highly enough of Rita and everyone at the restaurants — so friendly, so helpful and informative, and truly made me want to return immediately. I’ll be back, I promise!

- 287annette (10/5): Immerse yourself in the city of Lisbon – - the hotel is perfectly located in the beautiful historic part of the city. The offered room upgrade, the friendliness of the staff, and the delicious breakfast made our stay a truly memorable one.
- oakleyposterboy (8/5): Excellent service, great location, amazing history...with some quirks - We really enjoyed our stay at the Santiago. The staff are friendly, very helpful, and almost all english-speaking (Não falamos português!). The breakfast is excellent (show up hungry!) and the bartender at Manny's is patient and talented with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The hotel is walking distance to lots of attractions and restaurants, but be prepared for lots of steep uphill walks on old cobblestone roads. Just 5 euros gets you pretty far around the city by Bolt from this hotel too. On check-in we got a very interesting tour that went into detail about the history of the hotel and ended with a walkthrough of the room features. I also want to give a shout-out to the therapist at the spa who gave a great massage. However there are a some things that keep me from giving a perfect rating. Each is minor, but altogether reflect opportunities for improvement. -in part due to the historical nature of the site, SdA is not ideal if you have someone in your party with limited mobility. Even the entrance itself is on a steep cobblestone hill and cars cannot drive up to the entrance. -price was a little high at 410 euros non-refundable room rate in the off-season -shower temp was extremely touchy: scalding hot or too cold -the wall between the bathroom and the bedroom had a large hole (by design) above the door, so if you use the bathroom at night the light is bleeding into the bedroom -the WC used a hole in the door in place of a handle/knob and also had a gap above the door, which both really reduced privacy -the sink faucets point straight out instead of down, don't open them to full right away! -the doorstop for the bathroom door prevented the door from opening further than 90 degrees. -the bar in the closet is bizarrely high, if you are a short don't plan on hanging anything up! -couch had a rip in the fabric -I struggled with the pillow firmness: one was too hard, one was too soft.

- 486marivip (10/5): Almost Perfect... - ...Because nothing is perfect, but...This is a place, clean, beautiful, old fashioned, decorated with gusto and welcoming. The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable and a great bathroom. It was very quiet with a view of the sea and big, green trees that housed lively singing birds in the morning. We had delicious breakfasts delivered to our room with smiles as radiant as the sun. There was Audrey's a wonderful restaurant with elegant touches and food we enjoyed. The red Portuguese wines they recommended were delicious and formidable. The entire staff was very supportive and amicable. We loved the good vibes at the reception desk. There was happiness all around among the members of the young team, who were from different parts of the world.The looked and acted like one big family! Thanks to the lady who cleaned our room! The Spa treatments were very good and the staff friendly, Tesa, especially who waited for me after delays at the airport. We were celebrating our anniversary and our room awaited us with a lovely message and a delicious good looking dessert. Thanks for the little touches, you all deserve big ratings! And Dylan, ironing napkins next to the window near the dining room, with such intent, like an artist, is my little story of this trip with Cesaria Ebora singing in the background.

Just a short walk from the historic tram, the hotel is ideally located for exploring the colourful Alfama district as well as the lively city centre. The lovingly renovated building, the spacious rooms (wer had a King-Bed), the staff and the food were all impeccable. We can unreservedly recommend the hotel and would book there again at any time.

Perfect location for days of wandering around the city. The room was super comfy and the staff was amazing. The breakfast was one of the best we've had on our trip. Have Lucas make you a salted carmel latte!! We would absolutely stay here again.

Our room was also fantastic. We especially loved the large shower. Even though we were there during some big thunderstorms, our room was quiet and perfect for sleeping. We’d happily stay here again on a future trip to Lisbon.
- AMarquarth (10/5): Wonderful, comfortable and well-located hotel - Checkin was perfect with a warm welcome, all informations were given. The room was nice, little bit small but okay for three nights. Two large luggages were tricky to handle. We had a nice view from our room to Miradouro Santa Lucia and can see the Cruise Liners. Beds and everything were best quality and we enjoyed it. In the bath we missed possibilites to hang our toiletries bags. Breakfast was great quality and with good choice. We had dinner once and I would say a real pity - it was delicious and in a perfect atmosphere. Wished we had dinner more than once there! Finally - the staff. They are all very courteous but grounded. We felt very comfortable! Thanks!

The hotel had much charm and gorgeous views of the water. The service was friendly and attentive and Audrey’s cafe was such a great place to start and end each day. We also enjoyed the beauty bar. We were so glad to wake up in and come back to this hotel each day. It was a calm and beautiful oasis with lots of character. - chessamgm (10/5): Find you home in the best luxury boutique hotel in Alfama - Best luxury boutique hotel in Alfama! Prior to arrival, I connected with Rita at the concierge to reconfirm my request for a high floor, quiet room and also recommend a restaurant to celebrate my bday. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by Rita and relieved of our luggage and welcomed with a wonderful glass or port. We were shown to our room and it’s exactly what I asked for. There was also a special dessert waiting for us, a beautiful chocolate cake from the chef! I knew this was going to be a great start. The hotel is tucked in a quiet street but all the attractions are within 10-15 min walk. There is a wonderful restaurant in house, and a fantastic cocktail bar that serves amazing drinks. The breakfast is the best! For 20 euros you can have any specialty coffee, fresh juices, eggs, pastries freshly made and fruit. Don’t miss breakfast here. Everyone we met at the hotel is so friendly and welcoming. Lots of special touches, rooms are cozy and sheets so soft, bathrooms are big in European standards. From the moment we booked, communication was excellent, and the hotel was easy to find. The location is nestled on a quiet street, which made the experience feel truly authentic - we loved being tucked away from the busy tourist areas while still being perfectly situated to explore. The concierge staff was unbelievably helpful, check-in was seamless, and every single staff member we encountered was friendly and warm. The service throughout our stay was exceptional. The hotel itself is stunning - beautifully and tastefully decorated in a way that feels both elegant and inviting. The food was incredible! We had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel, and we absolutely loved dining on the patio. The dinner quality was among the best we experienced on our entire trip - it's definitely worth eating onsite. The ambiance with the music, décor, and overall dining experience was truly special. The only thing we'd do differently next time is splurge on a room upgrade for better views. There was nothing wrong with our room at all - we'd just treat ourselves to the extra next visit! The lounges available for guests were also incredible. This was a wonderful experience from start to finish, and we would absolutely come back. Highly recommend!

The real asset of the hotel is its staff. Everyone was courteous and helpful from the first minute to the last. The cuisine at the Audrey restaurant was also very welcome, as was the great Dry Martini at the bar!

We splurged since it was our 25th anniversary trip and were so glad to stay in the Alfama for our Lisbon leg of our trip. Super friendly and knowledgeable concierge staff welcomed us and stored our luggage while we ate breakfast outside at the hotel's restaurant, Audrey's. We had an early arrival, so we walked up to the castle before our room was ready. They gave us a map of Lisbon & explained the highlights of each neighborhood. Had a drink at their fabulous bar, amazing. Our room had beautiful views and was very comfortable. Literally didn't want to leave. We loved coming back to our hotel each evening after touring and also loved walking the neighborhood around the hotel. Each space of the hotel was beautiful & uniquely designed. Excellent staff all around. Nothing.

From check-in with Rita (what a bright light) to our departure 5 days later, the Hotel staff could not have been more accommodating. We took the breakfast included offer, and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast outdoors each morning...would definitely recommend that approach. Our room (101) included walk in closet, large bathroom...and very comfortable King. Great accommodation and surprisingly quiet for being in middle of Lisbon. Evening walks down to the seaport, short walk down the hill (there are many hills!!), very in short, we loved this hotel, a little gem! And the staff really very special. And very well situated for anything you want to do. UBER service btw...record response time....... under 3 minutes always!!

Our top floor room had a nice view, but I would opt for a lower floor room with more space. We did not have enough room for luggage placement, and nowhere to sit in the room other than on the bed.

The views from the balcony and our room were gorgeous. The staff went above and beyond for us and our toddler. They made sure our room was available early so we could nap from our red eye flight. The restaurant was wonderful on site. Just stay here.

The details, wallpaper, stemware in the bar, the welcome drink, the spacious room with high ceilings…I could go on and on. The service is top notch. I communicated via phone and email before arrival. The concierge set up a van pick up at Lisbon and also a private day trip to Sintra that was outstanding. Of all my travels, this hotel and their service ranks at the very highest. I certainly hope to come back! Thank you!!

It was the perfect way to end a day of exploring. Overall, Santiago de Alfama is a true boutique experience that combines charm, comfort, and outstanding service. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Lisbon and will certainly be back on my next trip.

From the housekeeping asking if we wanted extra pillows because they saw us using couch pillows on the bed, to the amazing waitstaff at breakfast, to an amazing bartender (which wasn’t as easy to find in Portugal as the US), this place checks all the boxes. The location is just a block or so off the main road and is easy to access via trolly or bus (a little less so by car, taxi or ride share), but not so close to have too much traffic noise and still feel somewhat secluded. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to visit Lisbon.
- Piotr (10/5): Not just a stay, the only hotel experience of its kind - I could easily write about everything at Santiago de Alfama: the food, the rooms, the architecture, the location. But this time I want to focus only on the staff, because that’s the real heart of this hotel. From the very first moment, the welcome at reception was the warmest we’ve ever had. And not just because we were offered a glass of ginjinha (the local cherry liquor), but because the receptionist truly welcomed us as if we were coming home. Fittingly, the map of Lisbon we received had the hotel pinned under the label “home.” That little detail says it all. Even more impressive, every recommendation from the receptionists was spot on. It felt as if they knew exactly what we were looking for, never just pointing us to the top restaurants by default but listening carefully and suggesting things like a good friend who knows your taste. At breakfast, the waitress somehow guessed exactly the coffee I wanted in the morning without me even asking. Add to that the morning view from the garden while sipping that coffee, with everyone smiling and setting you up perfectly for the day, it felt like pure joy. After a long day of sightseeing, the bar was on a completely different level. The guys there are natural conversationalists, never pushy, always friendly, and genuinely interested in your taste. Like spending time with great pals. Even the people you rarely see made an impression. A cleaning lady asked us how our stay was and whether everything was fine, something I’ve never experienced before. And those we didn’t meet, the chefs and cooks, deserve a special mention too. Calling their late-night dishes “snacks” would be an insult; they were true masterpieces. Santiago de Alfama is not just a hotel, it is a place that treats you as someone special. There are hotels, and then there is Santiago de Alfama.

The best part was by far the knowledgeable and gracious staff, especially Martim at reception and Dylan, our breakfast waiter at Audrey’s restaurant. We loved that we could walk to many places, including the Sao Jorge castle and several good shops and restaurants in historic Alfama. We were sad to leave and would love to return to this charming hotel in the future!

We stayed in the smallest, most basic room and still felt pampered. The towels, sheets etc are top quality. They provide turn down service, a lovely mini bar set up with coffee maker, wine glasses etc. The decor is beautiful. It is in the historic district of Aflame which is a great location, but it is very hilly and tricky walking with narrow cobblestone streets.

- Stephen (10/5): - My wife and I shared a 3-night visit at this beautiful botique hotel in Almafa with our dear friends (2 couples), from the US. From the moment we arrived, very tired from our trip from the Duoro Valley and the harrowing drive through the narrow streets of Lisbon, we knew we were in a very special place. We were immediately warmly greeted and assisted with parking, baggage and registration. A complimentary toast or two of ginja was shared in the lobby, and we began to relax. It would be difficult to point out one member of the staff that was outstanding during our stay, because they ALL were. What a superb team! We fully enjoyed the bar and restaurant service, and all the offerings were wonderfully prepared. The rooms were perfect - quiet, extremely clean and well-appointed, with the linens and towels replaced daily. For our second day the concierge booked a guide for us, (Juaquim), for a full day trip that included Sintra, Caiscais, and Capo da Rocha. He also took us to special stops along the way for breakfast and lunch, and discussed historical and cultural perspectives along the way. Fantastic! From the hotel you can walk to cafes, shopping areas, resturants and beautiful rooftop bars each day, returning back for a relaxing nightcap at this truly one-of-a-kind 5-Star experience! Highly recommended!!!

Breakfast was served to you, no awful buffet. The rooms have high ceilings (befitting a former palace) and plenty of storage, high quality linens and lovely bath products. There is no pool but everything else is so good you overlook that.

We were offered a tour of the property upon arrival and were thrilled to learn that on our way to our room we would be crossing over the excavation sight of a Roman stone staircase. The hotel was a prior palace and they have kept all of the stone arches and pillars as they were … We had a beautiful room and as we were celebrating our anniversary they had a special cake and sweets awaiting our arrival. We chose to dine at Audrey’s their beautiful restaurant and bar, and loved both the food and wine menus… overall a perfect romantic escape, and it’s located walking distance to literally everything, yet tucked away discreetly on a side cobbled side street… We will definitely be returning!!! There are a lot of hilly streets to deal with but it was well worth the achy bones and feet. Everybody in this hotel makes you feel part of the Santigo family.
