Guest Reviews
- Jessica (10/5): -
- Kate (10/5): - A beautiful hotel with great amenities on Vieques. The rooms were stylish and comfortable. The rooftop bar was great fun.
- P2432XPsilviam (2/5): Very unpleasant experience - Our experience was extremely disappointing. We booked this hotel as a family without realizing it was “adults only,” as this information was not clearly visible during the booking process. Upon arrival, we were informed that our children, aged 11 and 14, were not allowed to stay.
What was most frustrating was not only the situation itself, but the complete lack of empathy and willingness to help us. We were attended by the hotel manager, whose attitude was arrogant and completely lacking in empathy, showing very little interest in finding a solution or helping us in a difficult situation. They offered no alternatives, no assistance, and no support, despite the fact that we were a family with minors in a town with very high occupancy, where finding last-minute accommodation was extremely difficult.
In addition, the hotel refused to refund the price of the rooms we had paid for, even though they understood that we could not stay there. In situations like this, one would at least expect some humanity, professionalism, and flexibility.
A very unpleasant experience and extremely poor customer service.
- ALSOSAVVY (8/5): Very nice stay - Great location, amazing architecture, friendly staff, very nice amenities. The downside is that the music on the roof is played extremely loudly and reverberates through the open-design hotel. It is not possible to relax when the music is being played, even 2 floors away.
- Sarah (8/5): - The hotel design was beautiful and interesting. Location was excellent. Front desk staff were lovely and welcoming. The rooftop bar staff and the barista downstairs acted like they were held there against their will and that we were inconveniencing them by existing. A little more pleasant energy or even a smile would have gone a long way.
The rooms would have benefited by adding a few hooks for hanging in the bathroom.
- Cristina (10/5): - Rooms, staff, rooftop Hot water takes long time to come out.
- Christopher (9/5): -
- Tibo (10/5): Beste keuze qua verblijf in Esperanza.
- Paola (10/5): -
- Anvesh Reddy (9/5): Great location close to the beach and restaurants. Beautiful rooftop view and bar as well. We stayed only for a night on -
- B (9/5): Very beautiful design hotel, nice interior. - Very exeptional design hotel. We had a balcony just behind the bushes, what was very nice and quiet, but we had a lot of mosquitos at dusk.
- Marina (8/5): -
- Blas Rodrigo (9/5): - The room was good, very comfy bed. Amazing staff, that was always very helpful. From the rooftop the clients would throw their ciggarette buds to our terrace.
- Shai (10/5): -

- Sara (8/5): We will come back! - We were supposed to be there for three nights but had to cut our trip short due to an issue at home. The staff went out of their way to help us.
The one night we spend was excellent. The rooms were nice, with a balcony and the design is awesome Limited choices for breakfast. Rooftop is not open all nights.
- Viktorija (10/5): Amazing! - Amazing place! Very comfortable bad. Rooftop - amazing panoramic view, jacuzzi. Love it!

- Anasolia (2/5): Architecturally stunning, but a nightmare for sleep and service, a noisy, poorly managed disappointment - If you value sleep, basic hygiene, or professional transparency, avoid El Blok. Unless you are in your 20s and plan to party until sunrise, this hotel will likely be a mistake. We arrived from New York expecting a boutique experience; we left exhausted and insulted by the lack of management.
1. The "Easter Trap" & Noise
The hotel management is clearly aware of the unbearable noise levels but chooses to withhold this information until you are standing at the front desk and your deposit is non-refundable. Offering earplugs at check-in for noise that lasts until 2:30 AM is not "service"—it is a confession of a known problem. On our final night, guests were hammering construction-style between 1 AM and 2 AM. There was zero security present. We had to go downstairs ourselves to handle the situation.
2. Basic Standards Failed
No Hot Water: For the first 48 hours, we had no hot water. At this price point, that is not a "hiccup," it is a structural failure.
Non-existent Housekeeping: We returned from the beach to an unmade room and dirty towels. One day, housekeeping simply skipped us entirely with no explanation.
3. Management Absence: While a super friendly & helpful receptionist named Melanie was professional enough to personally make our bed and address the mess, it is clear that the actual management has checked out.
4. Verdict
El Blok markets itself as a high-end design destination, but it operates like a poorly run hostel.
We came to Vieques to recharge after a long journey, but instead, we spent our vacation dealing with the hotel's basic operational failures. We came home feeling even more tired than when we arrived.
> > Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere that respects its guests. There are many other wonderful options, such as the LEJOS ECO RETREAT.
- ElvisNYC (10/5): Best play to stay on Vieques - We loved this independently owned and managed hotel. Loved our room, loved the low key vibe - which doesn't entirely come across on the website. The front desk staff weren't there most organized when I called on the phone asking for dive trip info, but were super helpful and together while we were there- making a dinner reservation for us, giving us tips, providing towel sand beach chairs, soling a minor problem in our room. The website makes it look like a hub of activity and a party pace but it's really not. The musician who plays on the roof is great. We also appreciated the the little fridge was NOT stocked with booze - giving us room to store snacks and small breakfast items and fruit we picked on the island. When we checked out I went to thank the front desk for everything and need up meeting the GM who gave us the whole interesting history of the place.
- MARIA (10/5): Amazing location, great staff - Super accommodating
Beach chairs available
On the main strip
Clean
Melanie was exceptionally great and very helpful No room service
No lunch option - restaurant open for dinner only
Terrace closed early

- NYCTraveler185 (10/5): Highly highly highly recommend - I am a HUGE fan of El Blok. I've stayed here multiple times. The location is ideal — across the street from a stunning beach and just down the block from a strip of awesome restaurants and bars. The rooms are unique and stylish. I love the rooftop for sunsets, and the restaurant is outstanding. Plus, every single staff member I've ever interacted with has been friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. Highly highly highly recommend.

- Maria (8/5): Comfortable stay in a great location - Interesting architecture, large room, excellent location, pleasant view, quiet. The bed was comfortable and the room was well designed with plenty of sockets near the bed and enough floor space for two large suitcases. The rooftop bar and Placita restaurant are a big plus. They provide beach towels and beach chairs which was very convenient. I also liked that they provided a water bottle that you could fill and keep in your room. The laundry service was also very convenient and quick. The room we were originally given had not been cleaned properly and the door lock didn’t work. The staff were helpful and understanding and we were moved to a different room, but we wasted precious time having to move our stuff.
The room had a slight musty smell. You’re not allowed to leave the balcony doors open and there are no windows, which is possibly why.

- P2142QJrobf (2/5): What is this place? Don’t stay. - Music blasting from roof bar - so loud that our bed is shaking in our room. Musty smelling room. Don’t stay here.
- kaybT9509DA (10/5): A Wonderfully Unique Hotel to Experience - Staying at El Blok Hotel is special in every way. We enjoyed the unique architecture and sustainability efforts throughout our 2 night stay. Kiani, at the front desk, along with others were so helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed all hotel amenities and The Placita Restaurant for dinner 1 night. Location in Esperanza is convenient for walking. We would happily return.
- anon42069 (2/5): Deceptive room descriptions - Rented a room that said it has 2 separate sleeping spaces for a romantic night with my husband that my mother also came on.
The room had 2 beds in the same room with no provacy. The front desk admitted the description was deceptive, but didn’t offfer to do anything about it. It seems like this has come up before and they have also not changed it.
Kinda ruined the trip. Certainly not what I expect from a high end hotel.

- Jessica (9/5): - location to beaches, restaurants and horse riding in walking distance was amzing. the service was 20/10! room amenities were spectacular broken jacuzzi on rooftop :(
- roylis074 (10/5): All the Recs!! From our stay - We stayed at the El Blok hotel for 3 days and had a beautiful experience here.
Number 1 We took the ferry over to get here and I wanted to give our friend Liony a shout out as our taxi and tour guide. 🙏 So lucky to have meet such a beautiful soul here. I asked if I could put his phone number here (787) 324-4981
He took us to the hotel and took us back to the ferry, no issues. He is full of information about both vieques and ceiba! He even has a private boat to take you to go snorkeling. He seems to know a guy for everything! Great contact to have in your back pocket. ❤️🔥 good luck to your business friend 🧡 and see you when we are back!
Number 2 The El Blok hotel was outstandingly beautiful and the staff were so friendly and always checked in to make sure we had the best time. We stayed on the third floor and this hotel definitely has party PR vibes. Live DJ on the roof top every Sunday 4-8! So it's a vibe then it quiets right down. Lots of fun locals in the area also. We will definitely be back to this hotel.
Number 3 we did a horse riding tour on black sand beach. I would highly recommend Sailh they were great and took lots of fantastic photos of us at the end and touch the black sand when you are out there it's so heavy! Recommend wearing pants that can get wet and shoes that you dont mind getting wet either you will be in the ocean with them for a minute.
Number 4 Restaurant El Norte was absolutely delicious would recommend any of the fondue sauce mofungos and ceviche. I also would recommend Playa Negra Fine Foods which is near the horse riding tour for lunch. The owner of place is beyond sweet and passionate 💕 very authentic magic in that kitchen and everything is beautiful for a true foodie lover. I will post pictures of everything here.
- Lucy (9/5): Great hotel - Right beside gorgeous beach
Stanze belle e comodissime. Letto fantastico. Una terrazza e un ristoranti eccezionali. Un pochino rumorosa di notte
- Kitak (10/5): Best stay during the visit to PR - Their accommodation for special requests was excellent. I prepared a romantic proposal with the local service provider introduced by the hotel, and everything went perfectly in coordination with the hotel (except for minor details that the hotel could not completely control). Due to its structural features, it sometimes had a faint resemblance to a cigarette smell in the hallway, coming from outside the hotel (I suppose the smokers were just random tourists on the street or workers from nearby businesses). Other than that, everything was excellent considering how expensive it is to enjoy such a decent hotel these days.
- Watkins (9/5): -
- Mary (8/5): Beautiful accommodations, on the surface. But a few small stakes changes would help immensely. - Rooms were very tastefully, decorated, extremely relaxing lighting. Staff at the front desk were very friendly and the maid service was exceptional. More places to hang wet towels and swimsuits would be helpful. Nowhere to even hang hand towel. every time someone took a shower the entire bathroom floor was soaked so our bath mat was soaked all the time. Would have also been helpful to have two chairs out on the lanai instead of one. Also, adding some fruit for breakfast or the options to purchase would have been very appealing. One of the reasons that sold us on the property was the hot tub which we were told had been out of order for a long time. We stayed for over a week and after asking every day about the hot tub, they finally did give us a small discount, but I feel that should have been said upfront.
- Amy (8/5): - Absolutely loved the location, amazing staff and ease of checking in. Morning coffee and pastries were delicious! Rooms were clean and tidy. Thoughtful touches throughout. The only negative, is the road noise is horrible at night.
- Egor (9/5): Great stay for the money and the area. - The location was exceptional. Near the beach. The room was clean. Food at the downstairs restaurant is great. The restaurant and the rooftop bar are closed Tuesday through Wednesday or Thursday. Something to consider. Very hard to find a decent breakfast in Esperanza area. We had to call a cab to get to Blue Horizon resort to find one.
- CESAR (9/5): -
- Seungmi (10/5): - Perfect. Everyone was kind and nice. Perfect location. Nothing
- Diqing (10/5): -
- Diqing (10/5): -
- Felipe Ruiz Mazin (7/5): It was fine. - The rooftop and the location were great.
The bedroom was comfortable, but I had a terrible night because of people partying on the beach nearby at 1 am (the guy at the front desk said he couldn't do anything). The hotel didn't offer breakfast, even though it was quite expensive and the area didn't have many options for food at night or very early in the morning during the off-season.
AC a tope!

- Anardi Agosto (10/5): - Good
- Camila (10/5): - The hotel offered everything as advertised. Great location, and the staff were very helpful and kind. They made it clear what to expect, what was included, and what wasn’t. The room was tidy and clean, and the daily refresh service was provided during our two-night stay. If you rent a car, there’s a large parking lot right in front of the hotel (Esperanza Beach), where you can leave it.
- adam (10/5): - Loved staying here. highly recommended. helpful staff, clean and stylish rooms. Only thing is I wish I did more thorough research to know restaurant and bar are closed mon-weds. we'll be back.

- Luis (8/5): Very good - all the facilities were good The restaurant Placita has limited hours, and the day I visited, I arrived a bit late — at 9:36 PM, to be exact — and by that time they were no longer taking any more orders, even though there were still 24 minutes left until closing time.
- Marta (10/5): Exceptional - Everything! Roof top bar should be open longer
- Wood (10/5): Very good! - Very clean and comfortable No television
- Maria (9/5): Superb -
- James (8/5): A great stay - Very accommodating and kind staff A little loud at night, but that is due to location
- Cristian (8/5): Amazing location - Towels and chairs for the beach -

- kanishaloraine (8/5): Great bones, small fractures - Vieques is an amazing place to visit. Here's our take on El Blok
Location is excellent.
Check in process- smooth, we arrived early and our room wasn't ready until 1600. The staff was kind enough to store our luggage and provide us with beach towels and beach chairs so we could go enjoy the beach. Parking is accessible and there are multiple options to grab a bite or snack around the premises.
Room - small as expected. They sprayed it to mask the smell of humidity trapped within the concrete walls. AC worked great. Ceiling fan was dusty so we didn't turn it on. Bed was ok, pillows were uncomfortable.
Rooftop bar - nice views, has a hot tub and they had an acoustic player Friday night. Drinks were ok
Placita - food was delicious. The service was AWFUL. It started with the hostess who scanned the entire empty restaurant and told us she only had bar seating without making eye contact. We agreed to it immediately as our reservation was for the night after. Fifteen minutes later, 2 couples showed up without reservations and they were promptly seated, no questions asked. That was something extremely rude to do to a paying guest of the hotel. Bartenders were standoffish, bothered by simple requests and plain rude.
Crab Island Rum Bar - it was ok.
We'd definitely go back and avoid the restaurant if it means not being mistreated.
The rest of the hotel staff were kind, sweet and willing to help. We appreciate their hospitality.
- Leslie Y (10/5): - Excellent location, nice setting and a very friendly and helpful staff.
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hongyu (4/5): Disappointing -
- Ethan (8/5): Very good - I loved the food at the restaurant and the front desk was very helpful. Room and bathroom were too small.
- Pstegink (7/5): Good -
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional -
- HDBtravels (6/5): Hotel is beautiful but falls short in service for guests - This hotel is beautiful- front desk staff is friendly and top notch. Roof bar and staff is amazing. The rooms are gorgeous! Everything was amazing until my partner wanted to grab just a desert and after dinner drink in their restaurant- we were made to wait up front for 20 minutes and then told we couldn’t be sat because they didn’t have a table and because they were expecting a table of 15, we’d have to wait a long time for our drinks and food anyway. This doesn’t really sit well with someone who has worked in hospitality in NYC for more than 20 years…especially since the restaurant was more than half empty. If you are paying to stay here, you should be able to have a drink and dessert. I was a fan until this. Bad place.
- Liz (10/5): Amazing views and restful - Beautiful design, very comfortable room and atmosphere, fantastic restaurant on site! The rooftop had amazing views or the beach!
- Diana (6/5): Pleasant - They give a discount on the credit card and even though the trip was 4 weeks ago, they haven't made the payment.
