- Ann Marie (10/5): Ths was a perfect spot to have a family gathering. - Our family members enjoyed a really nice weekend at the Ambrose Hotel. The location of the hotel was great and allowed us easy access to all amenities and ocean. There was even a farmer's market on Saturday that we enjoyed. The common areas were awesome and inviting which made staying with extended family more fun. And, the staff was helpful, friendly, and very professional. nothing really. All was GOOD.

The bathroom lights were WAY too bright & really bugged me especially using the bathroom in the middle of the night where it would practically blind me in there. You need two separate lights or a dimmer! Parking was way too much money daily - it was ridiculous. We stayed 5 nights. It would be really good to have a break in price after 3 nights.

- lkelly2022 (8/5): Staffing needs improvement - I so wanted to give a 5 star review to this lovely boutique hotel. The hotel has a wonderful front patio area. Also, the bartender at happy hour is great -- he's delightful. Overall, the rooms are well appointed and the beds are great. The bathrooms need stronger shower heads -- there was very little pressure. Biggest disappointment was with breakfast service (or, should I say, lack of service). The poor woman serving (and cooking?) breakfast was the only attendant doing both dining room and in-room dining. We waited 30 minutes for a continental breakfast and gave up and went across the street to Tartine. Not her fault, she was totally overworked. Also, the male front desk clerk who worked Friday and Saturday afternoons needs to smile. He's very intimidating and looks like he doesn't want to be there.

There was some street parking and it was walking distance to quite a lot of restaurants and offices (if you're there for work). The room was ok, the bed was comfortable and there were plenty of snacks and a water dispenser outside for water which is a nice touch. The front desk staff wasn't super welcoming or kind. They also failed to give me information about parking - I parked my car in their parking and paid for it yet they failed to mention that the parking would be fully closed (no in or out) after a certain time. I came back from a dinner with work and found myself locked out even though I paid for it. The water from the shower in the room was also pretty cold and not warm enough for me to wash my hair - the tub/shower combo is super dated and for the price that we're paying that's not great.

There’s an emphasis on comfort but also on environmental sustainability. It’s in a great location, and offers pleasant outdoor spaces. The staff is accommodating, and we particularly enjoyed riding with Noelle when we took advantage of the hotel’s complimentary car service. She’s friendly and engaging, yet extremely professional. Ambrose is THE place to stay!

- Traveler32230438268 (10/5): Perfect Place to Stay if You Have Someone at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center - I recently stayed at the Ambrose Hotel while my mother was undergoing surgery at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, and it could not have worked out better for our situation. I needed a place that could comfortably accommodate my dad, my dog, and me while allowing me to shuttle back and forth to the hospital easily. The Ambrose ended up being just about a two-minute drive from the medical center, which made an enormous difference. When my mom had surgery there a few years ago, I stayed closer to the ocean. Even though it was only about a mile and a half away, the traffic made it take 15 minutes each way to get to the hospital. This time, being so close made everything so much easier during a stressful few days when I was going back and forth constantly. The property itself was clean, quiet, and very comfortable. It was also incredibly convenient to have Tartine right across the street for coffee, breakfast, and quick refreshments. There are also plenty of nearby shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and even specialty markets like Erewhon within minutes. Most importantly, the hotel was very accommodating for my dog Grace, which was essential for our stay. All around, it was a wonderful experience, and I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it—especially for anyone who needs to be close to UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center.

Friendliest staff ever, including the reception staff and the nice Tesla chauffeur who dropped me off and picked me up after shopping. Very well equipped rooms with all amenities needed. Great beds at every stay. Love the Occitane soaps. Spacious parking garage with 4 Tesla/EV chargers. Just a real gem and well worth the money.

In fact, the manager was reasonably condescending. They refused to comp me for the nights that I had ant infestations which was half of my stay. Horrible experience. Will never be back and I've notified the health department.

The hotel has a warm, cozy bed-and-breakfast feel that immediately makes you feel comfortable and welcomed. The atmosphere is calm, charming, and thoughtfully designed—perfect for a relaxing stay. A special shoutout to Noelle, the driver for the hotel’s Tesla car service. She was incredibly friendly, helpful, and professional, and truly added a personal touch to the experience. The Tesla service itself is a great perk and made getting around easy and enjoyable. The only downside worth mentioning is the Wi-Fi. The hotel advertises high-speed internet, but in reality the connection was quite slow during my stay. As an online professional who relies heavily on fast and stable internet, this is something future guests who work remotely should definitely take into account. That said, if you’re looking for a cozy, boutique-style hotel with great service and a welcoming vibe, the Ambrose is a lovely choice—just be mindful of the internet speeds if you plan to work online.

Our driver Noelle was amazing! I wasn’t sure how it was going to work but her communication made pick up a breeze and the ride was quite pleasant!

- W5418HKmattl (4/5): Not Recommended - Pre-paid for two night stay over the weekend. Neighborhood is nice and convenient but I will stay elsewhere next time I visit Santa Monica. Some specifics: 1). Arrived on Saturday, 45 minutes before the regular checkin (3PM). Despite having rooms available they said I had to wait until the official time. 2). Front desk staff were condensing and unfriendly. 3). Pre-paid charges included $92 Tax Recovery Fee and $177 Services Fee in addition to the remove charges. 4). They scanned my credit card for incidentals (expected) and parking but when I returned home I was charged additional taxes and amenities fee. When I called the front desk, again I encountered a condensing staff informing me I should have read things more closely. 5). Happy to pay for an amenity fee but there was no bar or restaurant (just a complementary happy hour) and a very small fitness facility. I am a frequent business and leisure traveler and will definitely not stay at this facility again.

- lorria567 (10/5): One of our favorite hotels in Santa Monica - The Ambrose is a great boutique hotel in Santa Monica. It's not too close to the beach but it's a great area near UCLA medical center and quieter neighborhoods. They offer bikes and a complimentary Tesla to get around locally. The lobby/common area is tastefully decorated and cozy. There is also a nice patio when the weather is nice. We recently stayed in a very comfortable suite with a couch, large bathroom and 2 balconies. I highly recommend it for the value and quality.

The yoga studio and Tartine café across the street were just perfect. The car service offered by the hotel with Noelle was so convenient, she was the best - a real value add!

- davidvR7169QS (10/5): New Year’s in Santa Monica - We had a lovely stay at the Ambrose Hotel around New Year’s. We were in town for the Rose Bowl and then spent the day in Santa Monica the following day. The room was very comfortable, atmosphere was great, and good coffee in the lobby, but the highlight was undoubtedly the front desk staff. Ivan and Shannon (who was training, I believe) were friendly, kind, and beyond helpful. We had a late night flight that was well after our 12 pm checkout, and they let us store our bags, rent bikes from the hotel, and use the hotel as a shelter from the rain throughout the day even though we had technically checked out. They offered great recommendations and were just incredibly pleasant all around. We loved biking to Santa Monica Pier and being across the street from Tartine (which you truly cannot miss). Would absolutely come back to The Ambrose if we visit the area again.

The Craftsman style rooms are attractive, spotless, comfortable, and I highly recommend this hotel. Staff (Taylor, Ivan and others) are very pleasant and helpful.
- mikew7860 (10/5): Great location and service - The Ambrose is in a great location and when the local car service is considered it makes a lot of great opportunities available throughout Santa Monica. The staff was very friendly and helpful. This was our last stop on a multi-stop trip so we splurged and reserved the large room with a balcony. It was very comfortable and the patio was spacious and enjoyable. Given that this is SoCal this is probably not relevant but the patio fireplace is really more for ambiance than for warmth. We did not eat at the hotel but we did take advantage of the daily all-day coffee and tea as well as the daily happy hour. Both are very nice benefits.

I especially loved their complementary ride service, where a driver brings you anywhere within 3 miles of the hotel! Our driver, Noelle was absolutely wonderful and super sweet! Definitely became the highlight of our stay!

- Janette (10/5): Comfortable and clean boutique hotel with terrific service - I first learned about the Ambrose from a local friend who suggested it over a year ago as my son lives in the area. Since then, my husband and I have stayed at the hotel more than 4 times, both together and traveling alone. The beds are very comfortable and the public spaces are ideal for lounging. What sets this hotel apart is the excellent service, particularly at the front desk. The location is a strong positive as well, with Tartine across the street, Whole Foods nearby, and many dining options. North of Montana is also within walking distance. Thanks to all at the Ambrose for the warm welcome and gracious service.

- elizabethgS8712PC (2/5): Overbooking Disaster - We booked The Ambrose for our 15-year anniversary, expecting a serene boutique experience. Instead, we got a last-minute game of hotel musical chairs. Just four hours before check-in, they called to say, “Oops, we overbooked!” and offered to relocate us to the Gateway Hotel—a place that costs 30% less and has all the charm of a DMV waiting room. Their logic? “It’s basically the same because neither has a pool or restaurant.” By that standard, a tent in the woods is also a luxury hotel—no pool there either! We canceled and scrambled to book The Georgian (which was actually fabulous), but it cost us an extra $400 to salvage our anniversary. Thanks, Ambrose, for turning our romantic getaway into a budgeting exercise and a crash course in hotel bait-and-switch tactics. If you enjoy disappointment, surprise downgrades, and being gaslit about hotel equivalency, The Ambrose is your dream destination. Otherwise, run—don’t walk—away from this boutique blunder.

- Bonnie (4/5): - The staff were not friendly. The keys only worked once and then we had to get new ones. Parking was expensive. The bed was just ok. The room was just ok. The worst two parts were the extra fees of $89 charged when we checked out for absolutely nothing and the rainhead shower head that didn't get us clean. No pressure or wand. Poor design! It came out to over $550 for one overnight stay plus the parking fee. We used no amenities. We were very disappointed. When I asked about the last minute fees, the desk clerk was rude.

- Alexandra (10/5): Ein Hotel zum Wohlfühlen! - Die Zimmer waren sauber und schön eingerichtet. Das Personal sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Es gab gratis Fahrräder und ein gratis Shuttle für kürzere Fahrten zum Beispiel zum Strand. Das Frühstück war hervorragend, allerdings für europäische Verhältnisse teuer. Die Außenanlage war gemütlich und die Umgebung generell ruhig. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Wir wollten am ersten Abend in der Umgebung etwas essen, aber das mexikanische Restaurant, das uns die Rezeptionistin empfohlen hat, war sehr unappetitlich. Auch der Veggiladen daneben ist nicht zu empfehlen.
- sauls630 (8/5): The Ambrose experience - Parking is expense $45/night. NO pool or hot tub. Rooms are small. All the staff members are really nice and welcoming. Location is not too far away from the Santa Monica pier. The hotel provides free shuttle to the ocean.
- Angeline (7/5): Could be better. - I like that it is clean and convenient to stores like walgreens and decent restaurants. I like that we could refill water anytime on our own at water dispensers. I like the scent of the hotel. I didn’t like that my room had a noisy aircond/fan when it is turned on. I did not like that water pressure for showering is not powerful enough. I did not like that room slippers were not provided.
