- Agnes (10/5): Totally relaxing in lovely surroundings - We had the most lovely two night stay. The Old Posting House has such a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Terry and Nicola made us feel very welcome from the minute go. The food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast. Our room was lovely , bed very comfortable and everywhere spotlessly clean. Definitely on our list of Happy Places , look forward to visiting again 😊 Nothing
- Jacqueline (10/5): Home from Home Heaven - It was like home from home, the hosts were so friendly, the room was spotless, beds were so comfortable with lovely bedding. Clean towels and toiletries. Fresh drinking water, tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits. Tv. The full english breakfast was superb. Best Bacon I've ever had. NA

- Natalie (10/5): Had a brilliant stay and good nights sleep!! Would highly recommend 😊 - Lovely, friendly staff. Amazing food (best food we’ve had for ages!!). Room was nice m, comfortable and clean.
- Viv (10/5): Top place to stay or eat 100% - Food was cooked to order and every meal was so good. There was plenty of choice and there was no problem when I asked for salad instead of chips. The plates were full of good tasty food.
The bed was so comfortable that we slept through the nights.
- Kay (10/5): Beautiful stay - Staff were friendly, approachable, helpful, my son and girlfriend came to have a meal with us, they are vegan and vegetarian, the chef was very helpful and although there was nothing on the menu for them the chef created two meals which were excellent N/A
- Julie (10/5): - Lovely room, big shower, easy entry even when the pub is shut. Lovely breakfast
- Katrina (9/5): Lovely place to stay. Highly recommended - Lovely place to stay. Room was clean and spacious. Food delicious. Staff very helpful. The room got very light early in the morning due to the type of blinds, which meant we woke up quite early.
- Glennis (9/5): Good accomodation, good food. Excellent value for money. - Very friendly and wecoming, good food. They checked in advance that we wanted dinner on arrival evening, which was great. Unfortunately, we didnt prebook breakfast (which I havent found to be an issue at other venues). However, it was too late to book it when we asked in the evening - something to bear in mind when booking in future!
- R (7/5): Good - Comfortable No breakfast available

- Jennifer (9/5): Exceptional value for money - Beds were comfortable and room was
Very clean. Hosts were warm and friendly. Bedroom windows that open fully to let air in was amazing. Would have liked a fan in the room to help stay cool when weather is muggy.
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (6/5): Disappointed - Dinner very great. Breakfast poor Breakfast
- Andrew (10/5): An excellent option for a stopover in this area. - The staff were very helpful, and everything about the room was perfect.
Room service was available, even on Sunday.
Good food was available every evening.
Even though it rained a lot during our stay, it was lovely to visit this part of the Lake District which we did not know very well.
Using our car, we enjoyed local walks and rock climbing. Nothing.
- Robert (9/5): Julie's 50th birthday weekend - The food was amazing, the owners very friendly. The room was spotless and very comfortable. Everything you needed was supplied in the room. Will definitely be back. We like to sleep with the windows open for air. The only downside to the room that we stayed in was that it was on the front of the building, the road was very busy and noisy at times which kept us awake for long periods.
However, this wouldn't stop up staying again. Would just ask for a different room. I'm just giving my honest opinion. Please don't let this stop you visiting. It's a beautiful place 😍
- Tyson (8/5): Very good - Good Location Food good. Very wet weather whilst we were there and we could have done with a little heater no heating on.
- Shonagh (9/5): Superb -
- Keeley (8/5): Lovely pub with a warm welcome and superb food - The owners were super friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious. Bed comfortable and room spacious. Could do with curtains in the bedroom as the blinds let all the light in.
- S (10/5): - Such a great room, especially with a dog. We had a door straight out in to a lsmall beer garden. Absolutely huge shower & extra large room were great too. Extremely good value room & very quiet. We also ate there on the evening & food was really good, all home made & a cheesecake to die for. We were doing a charity walk nearby at Buttermere on the Sat so it was perfectly positioned for us. Thanks again.
- Alan (9/5): I hope to go back at some point. A perfect base for exploring the beautiful surrounding areas. - Beautifully converted Old Posthouse. Very nice and spacious double bed room (I think it might have been the 'King Room') with a highly useful long shelf / desk, allowing one to unpack ones important things, and easily find them, rather than the usual case in most other similarly priced hotels of there not being enough room to put anything, and the endless rummaging through luggage as you cant find anything! The evening meals were good value as was the price fo the rooms, and the location is extremely handy for Ennerdale Water and the Buttermere valley and hills. Although the full English breakfast was nicely cooked with good ingredients, it did seem a bit expensive at £30. That was more than the price of most of the main courses of the evening meals. Perhaps throw in some black pudding, and fried bread etc and it wouldnt have seemed a bit expensive. Definitely wasnt a deal breaker, and I wasnt overly bothered, and is just my opinion.
- Carl (10/5): The staff were absolutely amazing and couldn’t do enough for us. We even lost a diamond ear ring in the room, and when t - It was absolutely immaculate. The rooms were a big size. I love how it was old an old building yet very modern.
- Angeliqua (10/5): - A beautiful room that was very clean and spacious. We couldn’t hear any noise from the other rooms or downstairs. The lady who checked us in was very friendly and the place felt very homely.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Les (8/5): Very good -
- Tina (10/5): - Really helpful team - we needed to collect keys early to attend a wedding and the team not only accomodated this but letbus check in to change
Clean, tidy room with everything you need for a short stay.
Utterly idyllic views brilliant location
- Emily (10/5): - We loved our stay here; the hosts were lovely and friendly and the food in the pub downstairs was delicious! Would absolutely recommend if you're in the area!

- Glyn (9/5): Excellent choice for our 2 night break up in the Lake District - Made very welcome from moment we arrived. Room was very comfortable and very clean. Lovely hot shower .Evening meals were delicious and a lovely cooked breakfast. Would highly recommend and hopefully we will return.

But that charges the batteries
till the next time we go there.
Food.

- Raymond (10/5): Loved it wish we could have stayed longer - Great friendly welcoming hosts. Had one of the most memorable dinners of our trip. Nil
- Elizabeth (8/5): A very nice place to stay. - The bedroom was exceptionally clean. The shower cubicle glass was so clean it almost looked like there was nothing there! There were two lovely big armchairs in which to sit and read. The staff were very lovely and friendly. The evening meal was absolutely delicious. The bed was very, very soft, which unfortunately is not ideal for me, but still was quite comfortable. The breakfast was plentiful, but the cooked breakfast for vegetarians consisted of just tomatoes, mushrooms and baked beans (I don't eat eggs). In the summer it gets light around 4.30am. There were no curtains in our room, only vertical blinds which allowed in a lot of light. I recommend to take a sleeping/eye mask if you are wakened by light.
- Kenneth (9/5): Have stayed before always lives up to expectations - Breakfast excellent
- Romana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shaun (9/5): Nice and friendly - Very clean
- John (8/5): Very good -

- Lee (9/5): Great room good facilities and staff. Food was amazing - Really good room and facilities Slightly too small in the bar when busy.
- David (7/5): Beautiful inn with perfect hostess - Ideal location for us. We had room 4 which was delightful. Big shower and none slip floor were much appreciated. We were disappointed with the food.
- Sharon (10/5): We had a wonderful stay, The accommodation, facilities, and atmosphere at the Old Posting House were fabulous. We will d - My husband and I were made immediately welcome, and we felt instantly comfortable on our arrival at the Old Posting House.
All aspects of the accommodation were delightful. So much attention to detail making our stay very pleasurable.
- Jane (9/5): Very friendly and welcoming staff and owners, the locals even made us welcome in the evening and the food was exceptiona - Warm friendly staff. Very clean and comfortable rooms
- Flora (10/5): Welcoming cosy pub with excellent food. - Very welcoming hosts who went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed for a comfy stay. We were travelling with our dog so we’re given a ground floor room with access out into a patio area. Spacious room with modern ensuite. Everything was spotless and the food was excellent. Brilliant location for exploring the Lakes. Nothing negative
- Sherida (10/5): Exceptional - very friendly and just perfect for us and our dog.

- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Graham (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely and clean, food was lovely Change for dogs
- Brian (10/5): - The rooms are located on the floor above the public bar and eating areas. You can book an evening meal if required. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable with no disturbance. Nice breakfast served by friendly staff.
- Phil (9/5): Superb - The staff were perfectly welcoming. Not too imposing which is the style I like. The rooms are comfortable and spacious, very clean too. Beds are comfortable and the bathroom was a good size. Location is great too for many things.
The food is absolutely tremendous. Very, very high standard. Not much at all. The fact they allow dogs is slightly frustrating for those who don't like dogs but obviously given the obsession with them these days they can't really say no so it is what it is. Not their fault if owners can't control their dogs. Everything else was great for the money. Drinks are a tad on the expensive side though, £8.50 for a large glass of wine.
- John (7/5): Wouldn’t pick this place again especially if it was for a long stay. - Rooms were lovely and had a quiet nights sleep, landlady and waitress were very welcoming. The Landlord who served at the Bar was very miserable and not welcoming at all, really didn’t look like he wanted to be there behind the bar, As a small bar it was irritating to have to speak over obviously regulars standing along the bar, just trying to pick your drinks up from the bar was a challenge. Also we love dogs but so so many sitting around the tables whilst eating and getting up to the bar was a challenging making sure you didn’t tread on the poor things.
- Christopher (8/5): Very good -
- Margaret (10/5): Excellent hosts in a lovely quiet location. - This pub is in a lovely quiet location. We had an excellent evening meal and superb breakfast, all from locally sourced food. The hosts were great and very hospitable and as you enter the pub the cleanliness shines through. Our room was spacious and situated at the back of the building and no noise could be heard from downstairs. Nothing to dislike.
- Anne (9/5): Superb -
- Dawn (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean and comfortable room and bed, good tv, nice biscuits. Beautifully cooked breakfast with extra choices also. Really good shower with nice toiletries. Hosts Nicola and Terry were friendly and helpful. Nothing
- Debbie (10/5): Very enjoyable, love - The hosts were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was locally sourced and fresh.
The resturant served excellent food for your evening meals. The location was great for the areas we wanted to explore.
Would defiantly recommend and return ourselves! Nothing, we had the freedom to come and go as we pleased and had everything in the room we could of needed.

- David (10/5): We had a relatively short stay we were sorry to leave the exceptional food beer and accommodation. - my wife enjoyed the full English breakfast. she thought that it was very good.
i am not a breakfast person but i do like cereal and the choice was perfect for me and the toast and yoghurt were of good quality.
the food that they serve in the restaurant/bar is of exceptional quality and is extremely moreish and the pavlova is recommended by my wife. the beer is also of exceptional quality and well kept.
the staff and hosts were attentive and very good and always busy and scurrying back and forth.. nothing comes to mind.
- Sherida (10/5): very friendly and excellent food , would recommend . - very clean good access out the back for the dog
- Antony (10/5): A thoroughly enjoyable stay. - The hosts, Nicola and Terry, were fantastic, very welcoming, friendly and attentive. The property was well kept and organised, with a dog friendly dining area. The room was very clean and comfortable, although I did bump my head once or twice on the slanted beams 🤪 😂.
The food was excellent, particularly the steak and ale pie 😋.
Rolo really enjoyed his first holiday and the pampering he received 🐶. I can’t say that there was anything wrong with property.
- Peter (8/5): Very good -

- Brian (9/5): Excellent value for money - Well priced with an excellent location. Hosts were lovely, couldn’t fault the breakfasts and evening meals that we had as well. Would recommend without question. All worked for us
- Mark (9/5): Really nice place, the hosts made it a pleasure. - Fine... But really I want to praise the excellent fish and chips on the dinner menu. NOT a complaint! I had a very good shave and shower. But I must admit I found it a little awkward to manouevre in the bathroom. However, no real problem thanks to the high standard of cleanliness.

Probably says more about the state of my hips rather than the bed 😉
- Jo (10/5): Lovely pub will definitely use again - Warm welcome. Good food served on the evening and good breakfast. Warm comfortable room . Easy to take dogs out at night and first thing in the morning. Everything warm comfortable room and bed. Plenty of space to put everything.
