Guest Reviews
- Humpheson (7/5): -
- Nigel (8/5): Pleasant welcoming and friendly accommodation - Very nice welcome, pleasant room, good evening meal and fun as we arrived on Quiz night. Very helpful staff Nothing significant
- Paul (9/5): -
- Tracey (8/5): Weekend get away - The place was beautiful in a lovely setting ,and foid was.excellent ,staff very attentive and welcoming. Our room let us down
Our bed was very squeckie keeping us from having a good sleep, and.the room clearly had nt been properly cleaned as i found medication under our bed and coffee had nt been topped up for our stay, meaning only one of us could have morning coffee in room.
- McCrorie (8/5): Family run Hotel/Inn very welcoming and great food - Loved the staff, they all made us very welcome from the time we arrived to the time we left! Obviously a family run hotel/ Inn which we love. The breakfast was amazing as was the coffee Unfortunately the room was the only reason my review isn't 10/10
The Hotel is on a main road so from late at night and early in the morning the traffic was disturbing.
Our only suggestions to bring it up to a 5 star review would be to install double glazing to drown out the noise from the very busy road and as much as the shutters are lovely they don't block out the light.
The rooms are very compact but comfortable and the coffee and biscuits and even the little fridge supplied was amazing
- Frederick (9/5): -
- Fidelis (10/5): -
- Graeme (10/5): Great location & welcoming. - Traditional Nothing
- adam (9/5): Lovely rustic pub with nice food, only a one night stay, can’t fault it - Quaint, rustic and sociable staff Nothing
- Susan (7/5): Good dining, but room not comfortable enough to stay for more than one night. - Characterful, nice food, friendly staff, good parking. Had very good dinner on the night we stayed, and also good breakfast the next morning. Very small room, didn’t really resemble the pictures online, at least the one we stayed in didn’t, furniture and fittings in the room all rather shabby. Television not opposite the bed so difficult to watch if you were in bed - and the room was so small that in bed was really the only place you could be. Also, room was very hot indeed, even with the small window open.
- Brian (8/5): BGH - The Ivy House - A quaint country inn/pub close to Amersham. Friendly staff, good car parking, warm room, good breakfast. Everything was fine for our shirt stay.
- Robert (8/5): Convenient for a one night stopover. Will use again. - Just right for one night. Excellent breakfast. Room was on the small side and some road traffic noise was noticeable as located on the road facing side of the building, but was OK as we were only staying for 1 night.
- Andy (9/5): - Superb room and ensuite with comfy bed. Staff were attentive and cooked breakfast was good. Sadly no cereals available on the day but great coffee made up for it! We ate in the pub restaurant in the evening and were two of many people eating there. The food was good but a bit pricey for pub grub.
- Applebee (8/5): Excellent pub with rooms at a very good price, would stay again. - Welcoming and efficient staff throughout our stay. Considering the price, the room was excellent value for money, nice and clean. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful and was included within the room price!
We also ate in the evening in the Ivy House and the food was well cooked, again with excellent service as there wasn't a spare table to be had. The room was a bit small for two people but considering the age of the pub, this is to be expected.
- Fiona (9/5): -
- Graeme (9/5): Had a great time - Breakfast wa great room fine dinner very good very limited chose of real ales no fullers ESB on draft or bottles of London Pride despite it being a Fullers pub
- Helen (7/5): -
- Peter (5/5): -
- Yvonne (9/5): Charming pub with lots of character, good food, friendly staff - It was very clean and the location was ideal Our room was on the small side
- Linda (10/5): Very pleasant - Friendly welcoming Nothing
- Hannah (8/5): - Pub was gorgeous and the meal we had was really tasty and good. The room was on the small side (especially the bathroom) but had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The room was absolutely boiling and the first night was so hot we struggled to sleep. For reference this was December as well so Id hate to know how hot it would be in summer.
- elizabeth (10/5): A delightful stay - It is an interesting historic building run by very nice people. Although on a relatively busy road it was not too noisy, and there are lovely views towards the hills. The room was small but comfortable.
- Rachel (6/5): -
- Elizabeth (9/5): -
- Neil (6/5): - Food, quaint old building staff not overly friendly and room poorly ventilated
- Steve (7/5): Good - Breakfast was good including gluten free alternatives.
Bed was comfy and clean
Room clean
Good storage space Room was very warm unable to cool room enough
Windows need additional sound proofing as road noise was high
- Nigel (8/5): Another excellent stay pleasant Saturday afternoon with a fantastic evening meal had us stuffed. - Third time of coming here but still the breakfast Chef CANNOT do a RUNNY fried egg, it must be the simplest thing a Chef would have to create. Room a bit stuffy
- Giuseppe (5/5): - The location. Breakfast. No choice of a continental breakfast. No juice offered. Small fridge in room not working. The kettle needed descaling.
- Paul (9/5): - Friendly and helpful staff, cosy room and excellent breakfast.
- Mary (9/5): -
- Matthew (10/5): Superb food in the evening restaurant and very attentive staff - A lovely characterful traditional pub with nice accommodation and fabulous food. Nothing
- Jo (10/5): Lovely staff, beautiful pub, perfect breakfast - Very well appointed pub Classic feel and every detail has been thought of
- Carol (7/5): Would be a nice place to stay in cool weather. - Well appointed room with nice attention to detail with fresh milk in the mini fridge and a fan provided. Comfortable bed and good blackout blinds.
Music a bit loud but it stopped before midnight so wasn't an issue. Room quiet despite hotel being in a main road.
The food was pretty good. The room was stiflingly hot. Hardly slept a wink, despite comfy bed. The windows were small and didn't open far. The fan provided was clogged with dust so had little effect and it was noisy.
Food service unbelievably slow. Sat down at 7.30pm, 9pm before we got food. Breakfast also slow.
- Syd Allen (8/5): Very nice! - Helpful and friendly staff. A great place to stay, and dine. Fullers London Pride on tap.
- Elsie (9/5): - Location, style of interior, staff, food No carpet on stairs to room or access to rooms made it very noisy.
- Jean (7/5): - Lovely place to meet up with family and enjoy a very good meal Disappointing breakfast. No cold buffet or cold items available on menu so had to ask which was complicated. The cleaner served us at table - very pleasant- but didn’t feel quite right that he went from mopping the floor to serving us at table
- Susan (9/5): -
- Tracey (9/5): Lovely pub with rooms - Lovely room, immaculate ensuite, had everything we needed for an overnight stay. We had Sunday lunch which was very nice and desserts delicious too. The breakfast was also very good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing to dislike.
- Lynne (9/5): Lovely stay a few little tweaks needed to perfect - food and overall decor are good - Nicely decorated rooms and perfectly adequate size. The pub and the food were amazing
Some of the chairs in the pub need updating as a bit tatty The pillows were a little lumpy
The fans were not very effective in keeping the rooms cool
- claire (10/5): -
- Corrinna (10/5): Excellent Food, Cozy room. - The room was Cozy and the food was excellent. Really good value for money. We liked the tea/ coffee in the room and was given milk for the mini fridge on arrival - lovely. The mattress was a little firm for our liking but I'm sure someone else would love it, tricky to get perfect for everyone but I'm being picky to find something wrong.
- Jasmin (10/5): Fab stay in a beautiful location, best burger we’ve ever had! And breakfast was delicious too. Would definitely stay her - The food was amazing, comfortable bed and great location. There was nothing to dislike.
- Gabriela (10/5): -
- Diane (5/5): Ivy house is situated on a very busy road, traffic can be heard day and night - Breakfast ok, although it's smoked bacon which I can't eat. Evening menu needs an upgrade Evening menu needs to have more options
- Jimmy (9/5): Lovely cosy and very happy 😃 - Cosy clean
- Philip (10/5): A lovely old pub with a delicious breakfast, perfect for a short trip - Lovely old pub with reasonable sized rooms, parking and delicious breakfast
- Grace (10/5): I will be back. - Beautiful place. Lovely staff. Always wanted to help. Will definitely be returning when we have an excuse too!! Nothing, it’s exquisite. Grape vine in the garden, canopy over the patio area stopping the rain from hitting you, just an ideal place for a hotel and ideal place for a quiet getaway with lovely food.
- Frances (7/5): -
- Chris (7/5): - Staff were very friendly and breakfast well cooked. Not able to buy a drink in the pub after 7pm on Sunday evening, despite being residents.
Room was very hot without air conditioning. There was a small aircon unit that was rather ineffective.
- Collette (8/5): A one night stay - It's location and ambience Because of the heat wave and lack of air conditioning, the bedroom was unfortunately unbearably hot, which made sleep very difficult.
This is not a criticism of The Ivy House and I don't think that aircon could easily be installed
- Ian (9/5): - Friendly, helpful staff, comfortable rooms and nice breakfast -
- David (8/5): Relaxing stay in the country so close to the M25. - Very handy location for catching up with friends and family. Also served up a great breakfast before departure. Would book again.
- Danny (8/5): -
- Hilary (7/5): Good - Great food, lovely staff, friendly ambience Very noisy rooms from traffic, need double glazing.
- Seamus (10/5): Great food and great value for overnight stays - Really great comfortable stay, friendly staff, great food, both breakfasts and evening meals. Also good value for hotel stay. No complaints at all.
- Chris (6/5): Pleasant - Very clean and lovely place No staff around in the morning for breakfast or to check out
- Normnan (9/5): Very pleasant two night stay - Clean and tidy Rough carpet in room and very loose toilet seat
- Pamela (8/5): Very good - Very friendly and helpful staff. The food was good, wide choice on menu and well presented. The hotel was in a good location for us. It is an interesting building which has been recently redecorated, so was attractive and well presented. The bedrooms were well appointed for a one night stay. The rooms were rather small, and despite a fan was hot. The room was above the dining area and the diners were was rather loud and their language was on occasion offensive.
- Lisa (9/5): A portal of magic on the road to Chalfont! Great ambience, food and staff. - What a lovely place! Great vibe, especially with the vine-covered outside area. Loved the decor, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. It was a very hot day/early evening when I arrived. The room was lovely, and they had opened the window and put in a portable air conditioner. I like the fact that fresh milk was provided, and there was a mini fridge. What would be even better, would be a choice of milk alternative, like oat milk, but hey, I'm not a fussy vegetarian! HaHa! After freshening up with a quick shower, I was able to enjoy a lovely meal in the garden. It was sooooo hot, I slept on top of the duvet! Anyway, in the morning, as I was fasting, they were happy to provide a packed lunch instead of the breakfast that I was skipping. The sandwich with avocado and salad on brown bread was a lovely surprise when I opened the brown paper bag! Thank you! A healthy bag of crisps - if there is such a thing! And a beautiful red apple! I even received a friendly lick on my leg from the dog too! Thank you for a very pleasant stay. If I am back in the area and need to stay overnight, I wouldn't hesitate to come back. Hmmmmmmm 🤔 Oh yeah....the table, in the vine-covered area, we wanted to sit at - the top of it was decorated with bottle tops - for dinner, was too sticky and dirty! Haha! It needed a wipe, and my friend who had joined me, just moved to one of the picnic tables. And, the toilet seat in the bathroom was a bit dodgy but, apart from those minor things, I highly recommend The Ivy House.
- Nina (10/5): Great stay - We loved our stay! We were staying over for a wedding and we're so appreciative to be able to drop our bags off in the room early. We loved the decor and the coffee and biscuits in the room, the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was 10/10. We will definitely be back to stay again, and would definitely recommend staying at the ivy house to anyone!
- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachel (9/5): Superb - Lovely bar area and outside seating. Breakfast was lovely also. Busy road but that wasn't a huge issue
- Angela (6/5): Clean but uncomfortably hot - Dinner and breakfast were good.
The location was excellent for our 50 year school reunion. The room was like a sauna and when you opened the one window, the noise from the traffic on the road outside made it difficult to sleep. The bathroom in particular was very small. The toilet seat moved every time you sat on it and I’m pleased the radiators were not hit as you would have burnt your knees! We both were unable to put on the main shower and so had to use the hand shower but when we switched it off the main overhead shower started to drip constantly and we couldn’t switch it off. We went down to breakfast and the staff member manning was obviously unhappy. We were a party of five and so had sat at a large table so we could all sit together. The staff member complained to us that we should be in the breakfast room and not the other room which had been laid out for lunch but had not told any of my friends that they were sitting in the wrong place. He brought us coffees but no sugar and so we had to go and ask for it. We were delighted to all be there together for the first time in fifty years and so didn’t want any upset. We just laughed about all the issues but it was like being in Fawlty Towers.
- Browne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Whitehead (10/5): Brilliant. We had a lot of fun. Hope to go again. - The staff were all lovely and friendly and so helpful. We arrived early, but we were shown to our room immediately. Spotlessly clean, small but cosy and comfortable. And then there was Moo the cuddly cow!! Apparently every room has one 😊 Nothing!!
- Martin (9/5): Excellent overnight stay - out in the country yet with easy access to London - We wanted a "pit stop" just outside when attending the FA Cup final at Wembley. Great location with short drive to Gerrards Cross or Beaconsfield stations
Rooms clean and well presented (if a tad small) - fine for a one night stay.
Excellent food - really well presented evening meal washed down with a good pint.
breakfast freshly cooked to order
Definitely return one day - pending next Wembley game :-) There was a bit of traffic noise but nothing to keep you awake.
- Nigel (9/5): EXCELLENT PLACE FOR US TO SPEND A WEEKEND AWAY FROM THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE OF OUR BUSY LIVES.. - Fantastic place to be at, loved the quirkiness and atmosphere of this place. Will be booking again sometime soon, great food EXCELLENT staff. The TV in our room “Fairways” worked but only on one channel..
- Carolyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (8/5): Very good -
- Karyn (7/5): Good -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (3/5): Very disappointing - would not recommend and certainly wouldn’t stY again. The bar staff were very nice and very friendl - Nothing The rooms were small and I’m a very bad state of disrepair. The shower cubicle was covered with mildew. We had to change rooms. The shower cubicle in the second room wasn’t much better. There was a small bottle of milk left in the fridge which had gone off. There were cobwebs in corners and particularly behind the television.
- Ed (8/5): Very good -
- Lorraine (9/5): Wonderful weekend in a fantastic pub full of character - The quietest guest room ever - it's the only place we've ever stayed and didn't have the constant noise of people walking past your room and hearing talking, wonderful.
Lots of character in the pub itself and the room.
Brilliant to have a little bottle of fresh milk which could be kept cool in a mini fridge in our room.
Good shower.
Tasty food in the pub and good price and
there's lots of parking too.
Staff were polite, helpful and friendly especially Jamie 🙂 Everything was great thank you so much for a wonderful weekend.
- Renya (10/5): Great stay in a lovely pub - Great room, well furnished and clean. The pub itself was very charming and the food was great. Nothing about the place itself however not easy to getbto unless you have a car. The taxi was quite expensive.
- Ed (9/5): Superb -
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katharine (3/5): I understand that the building is due to be upgraded, but this was not a comfortable stay. - The room was fairly comfortable and warm, the bed and towels were clean. I liked the minifridge for milk and the bottle of water. Breakfast was good. The room was quite small and subject to a lot of road noise, which I know is inevitable on that road but didn't contribute to a good experience. The bathroom was outdated and there was a lot of black mould in the shower and across the ceiling. The ventilation was noisy and the sink was cracked. I appeared to be the only guest and think I was given one of the worst rooms.
- Elena (9/5): Nice cozy place for short stay - I like the rooms, nice bed and mattrass, very cozy design and convenient bathroom. Nice for a short stay. Have breakfast downstairs L
- Elizabeth (8/5): We had a wonderful stay - Cosy
- Christine (8/5): Very good -
- Steven (9/5): We have stayed here many times as it is an excellent location for us to meet friends who live in Bucks and Oxford. Foo -
- Julie (10/5): Enjoyed our short stay, everything was perfect - Breakfast excellent and staff very nice. Room was comfortable. Will definitely stay again when we next visit family Everything was perfect
- Alexander (9/5): Superb -
- Rhona (8/5): Very good -
- Alice (8/5): Very good - Food was superb, bed really comfy, staff lovely Bit of traffic noise at night but that can't be helped as right next to main road
- Derek (9/5): Superb -
- Liz (8/5): Great for base for work - Great host and wonderful breakfast best scrambled eggs ever tasted
- Grace (10/5): Definitely recommend and would stay again - Breakfast was amazing The decor
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Christine (7/5): Good -
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sally (4/5): Lovely location but a disappointing stay due to a lack of sleep! - The location was great for where we needed to be
Breakfast was tasty and quality ingredients
Nice hospitality tray and fresh milk given which was a welcome treat
Very informative welcome pack
Plenty of parking available The room needed updating and re-painting, walls & door frames were heavily marked.
Bathroom also needed updating, the shower was very poorly plumbed with all the pipework on show (ran out of toilet roll)
Carpet was quite heavily stained, cobwebs & dust very noticeable
The bed was an iron/metal frame which made a noise on every move so a complete lack of sleep (earplugs found as we were about to leave!)
On quite a noisy main road, we had to keep the window open as the room was very hot, a fan was provided but this was also very noisy.
Lack of communication from staff lead to a very disappointing and embarrassing situation.
- Scott (6/5): Cute country hotel for overnight stop - Good breakfast and helpful staff - I got my dates wrong in the initial booking and they helped me quickly and without fuss. Room was converted and not a huge amount of space to relax - very much for just sleeping. Fan in toilet couold not be switched off and lamp in the room was broken.
- Joy (6/5): Pleasant - No cold water. Extremely noisy fan in bathroom.
Went down for meal but couldn't eat it after putting gravy on which seemed to have been made of nothing but salt.
But the doggy made up for it all.
- Kieran (9/5): This is a lovely little hearty pub with great food and great staff - This little pub was amazing! We really enjoyed the live band and after a long day travelling it was a lovely evening to finish the day off, very nice food in the evening and for breakfast too! More air con in the room would’ve been nice but that’s just me being fussy!
- Kevin (8/5): Very good - It's a lovely country pub with food and rooms. The rooms were a nice size and still retained some nice features.
The breakfast was absolutely fantastic with high quality ingredients used.
Cute little cow teddy on the best was a nice touch. Bed was very squeaky and pillows were a bit lumpy and need replacing.
- Caroline (7/5): Good -
- Patricia (8/5): Very good -
