Guest Reviews
- Abigail_Rennes (8/5): A characterful step back in time, in the most amazing location - It really is a treat to sleep within the Alhambra complex, and makes all the difference on the “big day” of your Alhambra visit. We booked the earliest Nasrid Palaces timeslot, for lowest crowd numbers, and were able to pop back to the hotel afterwards for breakfast and then, later, for lunch and a little siesta, in between visiting other parts of this magnificent site. The hotel is like stepping back in time. I suspect that it has barely changed since I glimpsed it when I first visited Alhambra more than 20 years ago, and indeed for a long time before that, but I like it all the more for that. Very much the homely feel of an old “pensión”, traditionally furnished, clean and comfortable. The owner welcomed us in both English and French and gave us good recommendations for visits/restaurants. I like also that the breakfast menu is modular, so you can eat/spend as much or as little as you like on it.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Beautiful hotel in a wonderful setting - The location is brilliant and love the traditional
Rooms
- claire (7/5): Iconic situation inside the Alhambra helpful staff and comfortable room - Lovely hotel in iconic position. The parking situation is difficult. You need to drive and drop off any luggage, but it is not easy to find. We recommend parking and the getting a taxi to the hotel! Also, take your parking ticket with you
- F2111SRneilw (10/5): Great - A lovely friendly hotel. Great super clean room. Nice food and staff. Lovely courtyard dining room . Hospitality first class
- Zoraida (9/5): - Its location inside the Alhambra grounds is spectacular! It’s perfect if visiting the site as you can split your visit with a timely nap or bocas in a lovely courtyard! The drawback of traveling alone is that I am often given the room with the twin-size bed…but the view of the street of the Carlos V palace and Turkish baths made up for it!
- Jennifer (9/5): Wonderful stay and the Alhambra palaces and gardens are magical. - Great location for visiting the Alhambra. Quaint, but has all the immenities. Staff were wonderful especially Puri who gave us many excellent recommendations for restaurants and was extremely friendly and helpful. Was easy to get taxi into town. Nothing!!
Finding the right entrance into the Alhambra property to access the hotel was initially tricky but once found everything went smoothly and parking in the Alhambra parking lot was relatively close.
- Leonie (8/5): I had stayed here before. Things have changed, though basically it remains a lovely welcoming place - I like the hotel ambiance - regardless of its wonderful position on theAlhambra hill, it is an interesting, almost homely place - rather un hotel like. The advice about the security arrangements was carefully given, but it did worry me that if I stayed out after 10pm, I might not have been able to open the main door and enter. This was my inadequacy, but it did stop me staying out beyond 10 pm.
- Karyn (7/5): Amazing value given it is one of only 2 places to stay within the Alhambra complex - We chose to stay up by the Alhambra which turned out to be a perfect choice. A bus down into town is just €1.60 for restaurants, bars etc but the peace of the area once the Alhambra and gardens closed was just perfect.
We particularly loved the gardens at the Carmen de lis Martires which very few people seemed to know about. Only 5 minutes walk below the main tourist drag.
But - be warned - there is nowhere to eat or even get a drink at night in the Alhambra complex, unless you go to the expensive Parador. The cafe
In Hotel America closes at 16:30 after which we couldn’t even get a glass of water!
Still - the perfect choice to feel we’d got away from it all and we’d definitely book again. Very basic facilities and the cleaning/breakfast crew started up at 7:30 a.m.!recommend you wait and head into town for more choice and a better value breakfast.
- Cristina (8/5): Ubicación excepcional - La ubicación y el personal La escalera para subir a la habitación 125 y que entraba mucha luz por la madrugada y se oían los desayunos
- Jacqueline (9/5): - The staff were so lovely and helpful. Our stay at Hotel America was fantastic. Our room had everything we needed, and we enjoyed breakfast there each morning. To be able to stay within the Alhambra complex was incredible.

- ArthurM442 (10/5): True Spanish gem - So pleased we booked this small family run hotel instead of the larger hotels in the area. Direct and easy access to the Alhambra (garden gate less than 100m from Hotel)
if you are looking for Spanish style and a very warm welcome this is it. Meals out on the terrace were a treat. Staff were very helpfull in guiding us around the city and suggesting restuarants, which did not dissapoint. Would stay again. Was slightly disappointed that we didnt get the room with a terrace as per booking, but was not a deal breaker
- Arthur (9/5): Perecft location, authentic Spanish feel, staff exceptionally welcoming. - Hotel is perfectly located in the Alhambra giving easy access to sites and allowing you to stroll around the complex in the evening. true authentic Spanish vibe. owner was great and very welcoming. covered terrace was a fantastic place to eat and relax. Staff were FANTASTIC in giving options for places to eat as well as routes to follow for the best experiance of the city We did not get the room with the terrace that we had booked, which was disappointing, but it certainly did not ruin our stay

- Alvord (10/5): The staff were so kind and helpful, we had a lively stay. - The location and historical nature of the hotel.
- Edd (8/5): Fun place to stay. - Cute, quaint place. Staff were great. Nice restaurant onsite. Fun to be inside the old walls. Lots of steep walking, but worth it. Need to let them know if you can’t do the stairs.
- V711SXjelenam (4/5): Amazing Location, but Unhelpful, Indifferent and Negligent Personnel - The restaurant enjoys a superb location and has a very inviting ambience, definitely a highlight of the visit. The food was decent . Unfortunately, the service was extremely disappointing. We were ignored for at least 30 minutes, even though staff passed by our table several times. When we asked for a glass of white Chardonnay, the waitress had no idea what Chardonnay was, which was surprising for such a tourist-heavy area. The staff’s lack of basic English skills made communication difficult. There were also issues with the bill: items we did not order were added, and there was no apology when we pointed out the mistake. We were charged for four ounces of a drink but only received two. Additionally, a tip was automatically added to the bill. Normally, a bread basket (which you don’t request) is brought and charged as gratuity, but in our case, we were charged for bread that was never even served. After reading online reviews, it’s clear that many other customers have had similar experiences with unhelpful personnel. The owner really needs to address these ongoing service issues. On our way out, we also noticed a lot of commotion at the hotel’s front desk. One of the guests, who was on crutches, was struggling to get assistance with her luggage, and the staff seemed unable or unwilling to help. For clarity, we did not stay at the hotel and only visited for lunch, but this incident further highlighted the lack of helpfulness from the staff. While the location and food are excellent, the poor service and questionable billing practices left a very negative impression. I would hesitate to return or recommend this restaurant until significant improvements are made.
- Rebekah (10/5): Best location imaginable for seeing the Alhambra - Best location imaginable for seeing the Alhambra. Kind staff and they are able to get tickets to the Alhambra if you stay two nights or more which was a godsend as we didn’t book it ahead of time.
- Melinda (8/5): Picture-perfect hotel within 2-3 minutes from the Alhambra with a very friendly and helpful staff - The hotel is a pretty, quaint-looking one within the Alhambra grounds. I had a very nice small balcony (seen in the picture). After a long Alhambra tour, I just walked right back to the hotel (2-3 min walk)! No elevator; not a lot of eateries to choose from since it’s away central Granada; front desk available from 9am-11 pm
- Mike (10/5): Great hotel set in an idyllic location - not to be missed! - Traditional Rustic Spanish Hotel with well appointed rooms and welcoming staff who provide a great service. Nothing
- Ron (10/5): Exceptional - A magnificent historic home transformed into a quant boutique hotel inside the walls of the Alahandra. A truly memorable stay.
- Lynet (10/5): Exceptional -
- Antonia (10/5): Exceptional - Charm nothing
- Martin (8/5): Value for money stay at a superb location - Superb location. There are only two hotels in the Alhambra complex, this being one and for the location is exceptional value for money. The room was quite small but OK. The shower was excellent. The breakfast was OK however one can use the dining, breakfast and terrace facilities at the other hotel - A Paradores - that is located very close by. For the price paid for two nights - Nothing.
- Hugh (10/5): Lovely hotel in an unbeatable location - A lovely family hotel right in the Alhambra. Nice rooms, very friendly staff, good food and an unbeatable location.
- Jonathan (8/5): Good property inside the Alhambra - Good small property inside the Alhambra. Made it easy to get to our morning tour after staying here one night. Parking is actually like a ten minute walk away if you come by car.
- Ian (8/5): Perfect location to optimise your Alhambra experience. - The location of Hotel América could not be bettered. Perfect for visiting all parts of the Alhambra, and for taking a break between parts of your visit. It’s a shame there isn’t some kind of evening food service, but the location trumps this shortcoming.
- Lynn (10/5): Best location for Alhambra - Location Very small rooms
- Stephen (4/5): Meh! - All over the place really only has location. The room was tiny, the “double” bed was barely big enough for two and the breakfast was… meh The woman at the front desk convinced us to pay extra for a “double”. Not even close to worth the extra 30 euros per night
- G (8/5): Great stay for seeing Alhambra - Location great on the Alhambra site .
To get there with the rental car very stressful .
You have to look for the wooden little house ( Klein houten huisje en daar rechts door de slagboom )
And go through the gate there .
Very Andalusian style hotel we loved it . First night was rough because the bed was way to small for us Dutch people . We took an upgrade to another room and the bed was a bit bigger so better for us . The staff was very helpful if you ask them questions . Luxery hotel.
Very quit at night and super nice atmosphere. Small bed first night , the stress about the rental car parked so far away and difficult to get there . Maybe a point to help guests to send them more info upfront about how to get at the hotel and how it works with the parking tickets they have a nice discount .
- Kanae (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (9/5): Unique and enjoyable - If your main reason for visiting Granada is to see the Alhambra/Generalife (for which reservations are required several weeks in advance), then this is an ideal location for a base. It also means you can easily walk around the area's public spaces after dark, when it is quiet and atmospheric.
As for the hotel itself, we had walked past it several times in previous years and this year we decided to stay (4 nights in the room with a balcony): we are glad we did. It is quirky, charming and cosy. I was generally quiet and peaceful when we were there (though obviously this will depend on who the other guests are, especially if you have the balcony room which is above the internal courtyard where meals / drinks are served during the day).
We received a very warm welcome from the nice lady on the desk when we arrived, and the staff were generally lovely and helpful throughout the visit. And it was nice to be able to buy a light breakfast on the mornings that we were feeling too lazy to go into town.
We would happily stay here again.... in fact, we are planning to! Unless you are opting for buses/taxis, it's quite a steep and lengthy hike from both the nearest car park (we parked at lot 4 of Parkia Alhambra) and also the city centre / cathedral / eateries etc. So if you are not focused on the Alhambra / Generalife, then other locations may be easier. But nevertheless, I would still recommend this small and sweet hotel for a pleasant and unique experience.
The only slight negative on this visit is that we returned from the city centre about 11pm on our last night, and could not get the keypad to open to the external door. We were locked out and feared having to sleep in the open air... but after a few minutes of pressing the buzzer, the intercom finally came to life and we were given entry. Phew!
- Rigo (9/5): Unique experience inside the Alhambra! - UNIQUE LOCATION! Right inside the Alhambra. Very friendly staff. Quaint interior. Clean and quiet. It's a unique place and well worth the aspects you have to consider:
It's a bit isolated. you have to walk up and down the hill or take the bus or taxi to get anywhere in the city.
Only one restaurant near by, "Jardines Alberto." A bit pricey but good.
TIP: Take bus C32 all the way to Plaza St. Nicolas!
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- David (5/5): Passable -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Traditional and characteristic property with modern conveniences close to the Alhambra. It was great to wander around at night without the crowds and see the buildings illuminated. There was a lovely central courtyard complete with lush plants and ceramics where you could sit and eat. The staff were really helpful, lending us an umbrella, letting us leave our suitcases and calling for a taxi to the station. Close to the Alhambra, it is located away from the main area of restaurants but there is a reliable and frequent bus that stops fairly nearby which takes about 10 minutes to get to the centre of town.
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - This quaint family hotel was like a home from home. The charming owners went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable. Not only were we treated as friends, but they did their utmost to help us when we had trouble with an excursion provider.
- Emma (9/5): Excellent place to stay when visiting The Alhambra. - Situation and general ambience. Friendly staff. Style of the place is really charming. It was unseasonably cold but they put the heating on for us which worked well. Breakfast could have been a bit more varied but delicious orange juice.
- minhuaz2017 (10/5): Extremely nice staff - We had breakfast there this morning (a cup of coffee, one roast with tomato and one roast with butter and gen) and the price was very unbelievable (7.8 euros) and the staff was extremely nice. Strongly recommend! Next time we might consider staying in the hotel.
- Kevin (10/5): A hotel with charm which added to our visits to the Alhambra - Traditional Spanish hotel with friendly staff and comfy room . Nothing to dislike
- I. (8/5): Nice Stay! - That it was at the Alhambra. So it was great especifically for the days we had tickets to The Alhambra tours. The bus system to and from Albaicin and downtown passes every 7 minutes (c32, C30) Rhe bus ro Sacromonte can be taken in downtown (C31) Everything is within a 15 minute bus ride. The airconditioner did not work. It was cooler outside than inside. We opened the window but it openned to the patio where the restaurant is, so we had noise coming in. However, sleep was O.K. at nigth for they do not serve dinner.
- Alicia (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (8/5): Lovely location for seeing the Alhambra - Lovely location, quiet, clean, comfortable. Staff very helpful. All good
- Bryn (10/5): Charming old-world ambiance right inside the walls of Alhambra. - The Location inside the Alhambra wall is fantastic. The hotel iteself is absolutly charming with its old-world vibe, inner courtyard, and 18th centurty decor. The staff were excellent and attentive despite been very short handed and busy trying to balance everybodies needs. When we realized that they did not have an elevator, we were able to upgrade to the only ground level family suite for surprising small extra amount. We were also able to drive our luggage to the door, although one does have to take it back out to the main parking areas some 10 minutes walk away. Just be ready for carrying bags up narrow steps if you can't get the ground floor rooms as there is no elevator. Also if coming by rental car, be prepared for the 10 walk to and from the 24 hour parking lots. While you can drive your luggage to the door, you are not able to park there. One wonders if they could not make a deal with the bigger hotel next door that does have a parking area.
- Baz (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful atmosphere in a fabulous family run hotel. The owners Judith and Belinda were simply THE BEST. They did everything to make our short stay memorable in a very friendly and happy way. One day I will return, I hope 🥰 Nothing!
- George (9/5): We had a wonderful visit - Location, location, location! Lovely hotel with helpful staff.
- Leslie (8/5): Very good -
- marydA6825PQ (10/5): Lovely charming hotel right next to the Alhambra - Hotel America is located within the Alhambra site and was therefore perfect for our visit to the Alhambra. The hotel is charming and characterful and has all the facilities you need, a nice comfortable en suite room and friendly welcoming staff. There was a nice choice for breakfast and it was a good base for exploring Granada.
- Isabel (10/5): Comfortable quiet quaint little place felt like home. - Loved everything such a quaint old fashion inn type. Staff was superior.
- Mostafa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jo (8/5): Best hotel we stayed at during our week in Spain - Quirky (in a good way, not bland modern hotel) yet comfortable. Lunch in the shady patio was excellent. Location inside the grounds of Alhambra was great The A/C in our room wasn’t steady noise all night. It went on then off then on. This disturbed my sleep. Room was kept cool though
- Skeeter (10/5): Delightful building in great location. - Wonderful location in grounds of Alhambra. Very quiet at night. Quirky, individual rooms in a lovely old building. Friendly, helpful staff. Coffee and tea in rooms. Good terraced cafe for breakfast and lunch. No food available from 6pm although there were other options fairly nearby.
- Cynthia (9/5): Would return to stay again. Superb location and staff. Minor incoveniences due to age of building. - Location was phenomenal, inside the Alhambra citadel. Charming hotel from earlier ages, lovingly preserved original architechtual details. Wonderful open air courtyard. Great staff. Breakfast and lunch available in courtyard The hot water took a while to heat up.
- Orie (3/5): Poor - Staff was super friendly and helpful Bathroom stank of sewer.
Room was tiny with no view and no space for the suitcase (had to place it under the bed in order to be able to walk around the bed).
- Katherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vanessa (8/5): it was magical we came for the patti smith concert it couldnt have been more special. - the location is incredible, to be able to stay right in the alhambra was incredible. the room. it was very dark the lights didnt work it was on the ground floor right next to where the restaurant was ... id stay again but id want an upstairs room.
- Matthews (9/5): Beautiful location but more help needed when finding the hotel. - We found the check in difficult and had a long, difficult walk to the hotel with no assistance from the staff about transportation options.
Otherwise a lovely stay. Access to the hotel.
- Su (6/5): Very appreciative of the staff staying late to let us check in late. - Nice old design and near the Alhambra A bit difficult to drive to and park the car
- Jennifer (8/5): The staff went out of their way to help us. The location was beautiful and very atmospheric - The staff were excellent and very helpful. We had a comfortable stay at the hotel.
- Suzanne (6/5): Would have been good to know more in advance. - Limited breakfast menu- no cereal, no fruit no yogurt. No evening meal available.
- Tahir (2/5): Just bearable - The location The bed was forone person not for two, the room has a foul stench
- Jennifer (10/5): Perfect - Amazing location. Lovely atmosphere. Rooms were comfortable and super clean. The patio was lovely and cool in August heat. Everything was great
- Alexander (8/5): Very good -
- Ahmad (9/5): Superb - -You live the experience to be in the old Medina
-There is a hand-spray (shattaf) in the bathroom which great for Muslims. The hand-spray was leaking
- Claudia (10/5): Exceptional - Best location with charming facilities. You couldn't go wrong.
To top it off the staff is the best
- Kathy (7/5): Amazing location right at the Alhambra! - The location right at the Alhambra was amazing! It would be perfect if you had the first thing in the morning tour time. Beautiful old building and super friendly staff. There isn't a great place to park so a little bit of a challenge to get here with bags. One of the rooms did not smell good - musty, wet smell.
- Yonas (7/5): Good -
- Eyal (9/5): Superb - Lovely place
Great food and service
So close to the Alhambra
- Thomas (9/5): Superb -
- Roger (9/5): Superb -
- Sharon (10/5): Magical, where dreams are made real - Most fantastic location and the beautiful courtyard venue for drinks and breakfast was heavenly and the soothing sound of running water too. Reception staff were very efficient , friendly and helpful. Thank you. Magical stay. No plug socket where kettle is located, maybe an extension to have more than one plug for phone charging etc. Evening bar would have been a bonus to take in the evening courtyard experience.
- Miranda (10/5): Great location -
- Opinder (5/5): Cute place in the Alhambra - Amazing location Mosquitos, nosie from the early hours, thin walls, breakfast not included
- Yoko (10/5): Very exciting sightseeing - Location is very good.
Foods are nice.
Staffs are great. Nothing
- Lbfunky (8/5): Perfect for exploring Alhambra! - Incredible location. We were able to visit the Alhambra and return mid-day for lunch and siesta.
Patio restaurant serves excellent coffee and delicious regional food.
- Jackson (9/5): It's literally inside the Alhambra - The location was spectacular, inside the Alhambra itself. The price was totally reasonable for this, making the place absolutely worth it. The room was comfortable, though quite small, but very pretty, and the method of code access was efficient and convenient for the early departure we had in the morning. Honestly, sort of weird vibes from the staff
- Malcolm (9/5): A charming, historical hotel inside the Alhambra complex. - It was located INSIDE Alhambra - a charming old world hotel with very helpful, pleasant staff. Easy walk to visit the vast citadel of Alhambra. The hotel also offered breakfast, lunch and dinner options in their charming courtyard. We finished our stay with afternoon tea enjoying the ambience of this pleasant hotel. I wouldn't change a thing in this beautiful, historical hotel. It is charming as it is.
- Alastair (9/5): Superb - Great breakfast on a nice patio inside the hotel. Delicious croissants!
- Khan (3/5): Room was way too small SMALLER - Only location Room was smaller than our walk-in closet, dark stairs to the room. There was nothing to put our cell phone on, faucet in bath loose , nothing to like about the room.
- Anna (5/5): Passable -
- Mario (10/5): Exceptional - Good friendly place to stay. Great location
- Alasdair (10/5): I will be back! - It’s fantastic it’s my secret place thanks Judith from Jackie xxx Absolutely nothing!
- Graham (10/5): Staff were so lovely - Location Nothing
- Louise (8/5): Very good - Great location

- 934olliep (10/5): Wonderful friendly old hotel in the Alhambra - This is a wonderful hotel with fantastic friendly helpful staff. The room was very comfortable and well appointed and the hotel is completely charming. My wife had fallen and hurt her knee and was immediately offered an ice pack. Food great.
- Ruchaneewan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Oliver (10/5): Wonderful friendly old hotel within the Alhambra - Everything. The staff were so friendly and helpful. My wife had fallen and hurt her knee. The young man on reception immediately got an ice pack and towels as soon as we arrived. He also directed us to the Red Cross who came up to the hotel and bandaged Lyn's knee. Breakfast was excellent with the biggest croissants I have ever seen and delicious fresh orange juice. The older man on breakfast duty was very friendly, smiley and helpful. Lyn was able to rest in the room until able to go out. The room was wonderful, like a small apartment with beautiful carved furniture. The outside patio area was perfect for the delicious lunch with a pint of Sangria!! The woman who ran the hotel was very funny as well as helpful. She was amazed that I have a Spanish name but don't speak much Spanish. The location inside the Alhambra was perfect! Not being able to stay at the Hotel América for longer!
- Tamar (8/5): Wonderful location - Staying inside the grounds of the Alhambra is a real treat and the decor is characterful and unique. The room was a bit cramped and I missed having a bedside table.
