Guest Reviews
- Julie (10/5): Enjoyed our stay we will be back in summer ๐๏ธ - Near the sea ๐ Nice big room and bed was very comfortable ๐ Power cut in our room in the morning couldnโt have a shower ๐
- Marzena (7/5): -
- Colin (7/5): - A bit untidy around the site with some old scrap metal dumped in the car park at the rear
- Drew (6/5): Thanks - It was in seascale Got confused with the site . Went to hotel first
- Nazia (8/5): Great for a one night stay - Great location
- Aravind.Sakthivel (7/5): -
- Martyn (7/5): Great room and views, but shabby round the edges. - Located perfectly on the edge of the sea, and my room window was huge, with great views of the sea, the beach and the storm. Unmanned hotels present a problem, like if you leave your room key in the room. Which I did. The carpets were dirty and needed a decent hoover. The room shower was hit and miss tbh, and nowhere to dry the towels. No breakfast, which obviously I knew about, but it still disappoints, for the money paid.
- spencer (10/5): -
- Power (9/5): - Very spacious and spotless en suite room with spectacular sea view. Good breakfast in sister Hotel along the beach Nothing
- Susan (9/5): Enjoyable - Staff , comfortable ,clean
- Nikki (8/5): -
- Michalak (10/5): - Everything was good. In the bathrooms should be some shelf in the shower for liquids and few hooks for towels in the bathroom would be so useful ๐
- Julie (10/5): Weekend away x love Seascale ๐ - Near the beach
Large rooms comfortable beds and lovely views of the beach ๐ Nothing
- Darren (8/5): - Building needs some TLC
- Henry (10/5): -
- Rihanna (8/5): Beautiful, clean and a must stay! - The beach was right outside your window, was a lovely sight to wake up to. There could be just a few more sachets of sugar and maybe an option of De-caf Tea & Coffee, I myself drink it & I know quite a few people do drink it nowadays. Thatโs about it.
- naome (4/5): - Next to the sea The shower in room 2 was not working . They was no staff to report to until when we checked out on Sunday we saw staff whom we told about the shower and the response was hmm.. I tried to phone the number given but no answer.

- Triggs (10/5): -
- Moaiad (7/5): -
- Garry (10/5): It was great, peaceful and calm - The view, the quietness, the bed and the location. No staff :-( which meant the security felt a bit weak, just a small lock on our door and the main entrance was unlocked all the time.
- Rich (10/5): -
- Anthony (4/5): Overall not too good but are room was unlawfully entered - Large room Unman and unfinished cleaning up after the renovation
- Kenneth (6/5): It was fine. - Fine place, but very basic. Apparently no services. Didnโt even get coffee replenished between days
- Jeffrey (9/5): - Location .
- Chris (9/5): -
- ines (1/5): -
- Anna (10/5): -
- Matthias (7/5): Cool location - has got potential to be much more - Location right next to the sea is a memorable experience, when gale force winds are hitting the windows from the Irish Sea. The beach is great for a walk and even a swim. We had a good night's sleep and the beds were comfortable. The housekeeping lady we met in the morning was very friendly. We made good use of the EV charger (three phase 11/22 KW which is definitely better than expected albeit very high unit cost 80p). The railway line next-door is lightly used and the DMUs are relatively quiet so haven't affected our stay.
As a suggestion: Since there are no breakfast options on site you could set up a self catering kitchen so that guests can prepare there own breakfast in the morning without having to find another place. When we arrived at the property we noticed the following issues which were partly addressed:
- Towel with red stains (replaced the next morning)
- Kettle with burned black substance inside (replaced the next morning)
- Pipe to rainshower head in bathroom was no longer supported by the wall bracket (lose fixtures in the wall), water leaking from mixer tap - not fixed during our stay
- Curtains dirty and stained, edges torn
There is no lift at the property and as a result you need to be prepared to carry your bags up the stairs into the upper floors.
In general the property could benefit from some TLC and the concept of an unmanned operation with unlocked front door (despite CCTV in place) where anyone could walk in may not suit everyone.
Overall we expected a little bit more than what we experienced at this room rate.
- Farmer (6/5): Pleasant - The bed was clean and super comfortable. Double glazing was really good at keeping the noise and sea breeze out. Room was warm and the shower was great Nice sea view too. TV wasn't tuned in therefore it was unusable the remote was really dusty and the kettle just wouldn't boil.
- Susan (10/5): Canโt wait to return in 2 weeks - Gem of a place. Staff residents too. Family owned by diamonds ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ Nothing
- Farjana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Darren (7/5): Was ok - Breakfast was served in their other hotel "a minute down the road" but as it was a work trip there was no time for faffing about going to another hotel to eat. Paid for breakfast but after contacting the hotel to ask why it wasn't available, I wasn't offered a refund. The breakfast arrangements should have been made clear before / during the booking process.
- Spencer (9/5): Superb -
- James (10/5): A group of senior golfers looking for clean, spacious accommodation close to the golf club. A great - The rooms were very spacious, clean and well furnished with modern equipment. Bathrooms had lovely showers with lots of hot water. Bed was comfortable. All in all extremely satisfied with the accommodation. No improvements needed. The accommodation was very acceptable.
- Shelly (10/5): Awesome - Another excellent stay, this time we took the pooch again.
It was quiet even though lots of the rooms were occupied.
Room was spot on with cleanliness, the cleaning staff was lovely and friendly.
we were very blessed with the weather. That we couldn't stay forever ๐ญ
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - Near the sea ๐
- Diane (9/5): Perfect!! - The location is perfect, lovely sea view from the room.
Very clean and comfortable. Nothing
- Kenneth (8/5): Very good -
- Keith (5/5): Passable - The room was a reasonable size The bed was uncomfortable and not put together properly (divan wasn't lined up properly). There was mould in the corner by the window and cobwebs hanging down from the ceiling. There was masking tape around the window and paint flaking from the ceiling
- Margaret (8/5): - Beautiful location with sea views, this property was comfortable, with every amenity that you would need, except for staff. The property is unmanned except for a lovely cleaner. The main property is quite a walk, and that property is staffed.
If youโre after a self serve kind of place, that is comfortable and beautiful right on the ocean, this is perfect. I would stay here again.
- Justyna (2/5): Very poor -
- Irina (5/5): Hotel needs renovation, facilities are old. On the good side, bed was comfortable and showers were clean. Someone left s - Clean bed and showers No reception staff over the weekend. No answer when calling on the number provided instead.
Rail works started at midnight and lasted till 3am, no one could sleep.
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Kirsten (8/5): Did what it said on the tin! - Really clean, comfy bed and spacious room. Served our purpose for the coast to coast and offered lots of facilities by local firms, either delivered to the hotel or in local pubs. A little dated and one room (2) needed redecorating due to the damp on the external wall.
- Martin (7/5): Good -
- Stella (10/5): Just right for what we needed. -
- Hilary (8/5): Very good - The location and the room to meet up in as we were a group. There could have been a sink in the dining room area.
- Hilary (8/5): A pleasant susprise - The location was great to access walking up Scafell Pike. Another great plus was the room for meeting inwhich was so convenient for our large party. Sea views were a bonus.. It would have been good to have a sink in the dining room.
- Valerija (9/5): Superb -
- Brelfan (9/5): Great location by the sea. - Had a very large room on top floor overlooking the sea and beach. Ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower and plenty of storage space. Good parking. Quiet and peaceful location. I like places that 'leave you alone'. I would stay there again.
- Shelly (10/5): awesome place - views were stunning, great location zilch
- Laurel (6/5): Average with a view. - Nice view.Good room size.
Good to have a bar fridge. Lack of attention to detail.TV remote had no batteries. The bulb of the bathroom vanity light was missing. The curtains just need help as they are poorly hung. The room decor needs updating. No glasses provided - ours were plastic. We had a downstairs room, close to the entry - so a fair bit of noise from upstairs and guests coming in and out.No aircon in our room.
- Ewa (8/5): Very good -
- Wilson (10/5): 24 hours in seascale - From the moment we arrived in seascale it was breath taking the beach and surrounding areas were picturesque...when we arrived at the bailey Lodge it was so straight forward to get to your room...and the rooms were amazing the sea view we had from our window was soothing and very relaxing...we love seascale... There wasn't anything we didn't like at all...
- Hayley (10/5): Exceptional - The room was immaculate, the sea view was perfection and we will definitely be returning 5*
- Jason (8/5): Very good -
- Anita (5/5): Passable - The location with a sea view The curtains were hanging off, and you couldn't close them . The mattresses were hard could do with a topper
- Lee (4/5): Deserted town - The beach Nothing local, no shop or pub. No where to eat on a Sunday evening. Towels weren't replaced, we left them on the corridor floor as per instructions, not replaced so damp dirty towels for duration.
- Amanda (10/5): Superb Getaway - Our room was perfect. Beautiful sea views. A large, well-equipped room with a large double bed, and finally, from our travels, a TV large enough for the room size. There was a fridge for cold drinks and snacks. We needed to do some work, and the desk and chair were just right to work in peace and comfort.
The en-suite was fitted with quality fittings and had a large walk-in shower, featuring both a rain overhead shower and a hand-held, smaller shower. The shower gel, shampoo, and soaps are of top quality, all complemented by the large, fluffy towels for a perfect guest experience.
There were a few parking spaces behind the hotel, and plenty of free, quiet street parking was also available. As we entered through the main door, our key and room instructions were waiting on the table for us. The guest welcome letter explained in greater detail where to find breakfast the next day, including days and times, as well as local options.
We noticed that we didn't have a spoon for our tea from the tea and coffee facilities available. We contacted Richard, the owner, via the mobile number supplied, and he appeared with a big smile and welcome in ten minutes and two spoons.
The hotel is warm, welcoming, super clean, and superbly furnished. We loved listening to the sound of the sea at night.
If you enjoy walking or running, the England Coastal Path is just outside the hotel, accessible via a nearby path.
In the morning, we went to Mawson's ice cream parlour, which also serves breakfast at the beach. The whole vibe of the area and the friendliness of the locals were lovely, making for an enjoyable weekend. There wasn't anything we didn't like. Excellent all round and we stay away regularly ten out of ten.
- Garry (10/5): Myself and my son had our own room in the family suite (which made him very happy as he had his own Smart TV). Easy chec - Amazing value for money compared to others in the area.
- Robert (7/5): Fine for a cheeky overnight. Rated as good - you get what you pay for - The location was ideal for anyone who drives. It has magnificent views if you get a room with sea views. It is a warm property. It was quiet when we were there, which was ideal to sleep. There were plenty of plugs. The bedlinen was badly marked. The fridge had been disconnected meaning it wasn't great at keeping things cool. The curtains were woefully inadequate. the carpet was bleach marked in spots. The property is quite dated (nothing wrong with that really) but the ashtray at the entrance is over flowing and nobody on site mainly.
- Ecollins79 (8/5): Great location - We had a large room with a beautiful sea view
- Paula (8/5): Very good - Everything was amazing just the curtains should be better ๐
- Roberta (4/5): Do not recommend - No owner to be seen, breakfast had to be at nearby hotel, curtains falling off window and on ground floor so felt a bit vulnerable as single female. Clean sheets and bathroom so served it's purpose but for ยฃ94 per night poor value
- Simon (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (4/5): Wouldnโt stay here again very disappointed - Large Bed Cleanliness not great hair in the shower
- Andrew (7/5): Dated rooms - Location & view The room felt very dated, the bed mattress is very old and not very comfortable, two singles pushed together, wood work chipped, would definitely benefit from some paint and a new mattress.
- Julie (10/5): Enjoyed the weekend away x - Near the beach ๐๏ธ Nothing
- Megan (7/5): Good -
- Amazing (10/5): Exceptional - Easy to find and really clean. Lots of tea and coffee. Bathroom had towels and shower gel etc. Nothing, excellent place to stay.
- Lindsay (8/5): Would stay again!! - Easy access, very clean and the sea view!! Unfortunately this trip was work related and not play :(
- Molany01 (9/5): Nice location by the sea - Big room, the view from a window, location by the sea, very private and calm.
- Lee (1/5): We walked straight in the room looked around and went home we never stayed - Pictures on website look great It looked like my nanas house in 1943
- Ewa (6/5): Pleasant -
- Steven (10/5): We loved the anonymity and no fuss arrangement - We liked we got what we expected. But Booking .com was more expensive than I expected after calling the hotel folk. A bit pricey
- Irit (8/5): Very good -
- David (10/5): Warm clean room and very quiet in hotel, perfect stay. - Warm clean and tidy Nothing
- David (10/5): Fabulous stay in Seascale - Fantastic sea views and really great location easy to reach from the train station and access to the beach. Bed was massive and so comfy. Lovely clean bathroom and great shower. Only 2 pillows on the bed which was fine for me but if I had been travelling with someone I may have wanted a couple more
- Erin (7/5): Good -
- Lynsey (6/5): - Door catch did not lock properly, along with he way you check in (envelope left in open porch with name and room number) did not feel safe as a solo female traveller. Curtains were old and frayed and had huge watermarks across them.
Otherwise clean and good that there was a fridge. A couple of herbal teas or hot chocolate would have been a nice touch.
- Scott (9/5): Superb -
- Barbara (8/5): nice place, no breakfast - location was perfect, room size great and clean, ironing board included, comfy bed we did pay for breakfast and wasn't on the premises so we never managed to talk to someone to help us. nothing was said on the website regarding the breakfast being served 10' drive...
- Darren (4/5): choose wisely ๐ - sorry but not up scratch an afraid 3 bulbs not working in the room iron not working hot water took ages to come through the taps and shower
- Siva (6/5): Pleasant stay - Good location;excellent breakfast Small rooms;no elevators;staircase is narrow
- Carol (4/5): View was amazing - Location
We had to have breakfast at the sister hotel The Kellbank. It was absolutely delicious. Wish we had booked to stay there. Didnโt look like photos inside. The tv hand sets were filthy.
- Jonathan (10/5): An excellent option in Seascale. - Great location, we lucked out with a sea view, so had a couple of beautiful sunsets. Beds comfy. Bathroom spotless. Shower powerful and hot. Towels lovely and big. Plenty of space. Fridge and kettle all worked well. Easy to find. Perfect location for easy access to Wasdale and Scafell. Biscuits with the tea and coffee bits and bobs :) Thank you. The room was quite warm, even with the windows wide open, but it didnโt stop us sleeping well.
Caution with local Seascale amenities, some of them shut quite early, eg 8pm, so planning required!
- Naomi (3/5): Comfy but shower not working - We had a comfortable stay in terms of a comfy bed and the room was very clean.
The location is fantastic right on the sea. There was no hot water for a shower on the night we arrived nor the following morning in spite of turning on the water heater. I messaged the property directly but heard nothing so Iโve no choice but to leave a negative review which I didnโt want to do. ยฃ90 stay for no shower is expensive and would have appreciated at the very least a response/partial
refund. Sadly disappointing lack of communication
- Walsh (9/5): Lovely place to stay - The room overlooked the sea. Best bed ever we have had (we have stayed in many hotels over the years) so comfortable. Luxury towels, fridge in room + was quiet. Free telephone in room. The commute from the lodge to the hotel for breakfast.
Was further than expected. Extremely good breakfast with local produce.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ste (10/5): - He been to the BGL twice in the last month and have enjoyed both stays. First hotel Iโve been to that has no reception or staff in general, with keys and information left on a table on the way in. No matter though, Iโm there to sleep and shower and thatโs about it!
Itโs situated right on the beach which gives you the most incredible view out of the window and itโs close to local pubs and a few other conveniences. More importantly, itโs in an amazing place to head in to Wasdale - other than Gosforth, or staying in Wasdale itself (good luck!) itโs the best place for access, just 25 minutes away mostly along the shore of Wast Water.
Would happily stay here again.
- Margaret (8/5): - I stayed in found floor room. Looked tired and is need of decorating. Shower was adequate-plenty of hot water but not very powerful. Windows needed cleaning. Room on whole was clean although stain on duvet cover. Bed comfy. Not staff at hotel so you had to phone through to another hotel for assistance. No food available and a list of take away places for breakfast.
- Anibal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anita (10/5): It was absolutely everything what we needed! - The view from the room is amazing and mesmerising.Peace and quiet place.
- Joanne (9/5): Superb - Beds were very hard couldn't get comfortable
- Alex (8/5): Easy, tidy, by the sea - We wanted simple, no fuss, tidy and by the sea. We got simple, no fuss, tidy and by the sea :) The bathroom was very clean and new. Some wine glasses available in the room would be a nice touch :D but there was nothing wrong, seriously.
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Antony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (8/5): Big room, - Sea view, Dirty windows,
- Jason (7/5): Good -
