- C7846OAlauraw (4/5): Disappointed - Staff at check in were missing as they were cleaning the rooms for check in. We waited an hour to get our room. Window vents for ac, loud and smelly. The door in the bathroom was rotting from the water that was collecting from drainage issues. The comforter smelled old and there was a blanket on the bed that only covered our feet. None in the closet. This motel at best was a 1950’s Road side motel upgraded on the cheap. The price for our stay was not cheap. Stay at the Stanley as thats where we spent most of our free time in the evenings. Very disappointed.

The restaurant had a great breakfast and the staff were friendly and accommodating. There was only one light switch that controlled all of the lights in the room. The toilet paper holder was falling off the wall. There were pigeon droppings all over the stairway to get to our room.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The restaurant, Casa Colina was a pleasant surprise. The Mexican food was excellent. Chef Derek runs a tight and fun crew of people. We had a great time sharing stories with him. Thanks for a great visit.
- K2867ZEmicheleb (10/5): Pleasantly surprised - I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at the trailhead Lodge. The views are beautiful; and within walking distance to Estes Park. The new remodel you keeps the nostalgia of the original travel motel and It’s clean and minimalistic, but everything you need. The restaurant and front desk staff were extremely helpful. Great places to sit and gather with your family and enjoy the views. They also have a pool,I visited in March so it was not in use, but I’m sure it would be wonderful in the summer.
- L2388NKmatthewh (10/5): Hospitality with a capitol H - This was my 4th stay at Trailborn Rocky Mountains in Estes Park. It was my first time with all 4 of my kids (ages 11-23). We all had SUCH A GREAT TIME! Trailborn is extremely close to the river walk, which leads into downtown Estes Park (and is a mere 2 min drive by car should you not want to walk). The staff is amazing, very accommodating and personable. Every stay, this has been my biggest takeaway; the hospitality is top-notch 👍 The outdoor patio area is lovely, quiet and cozy. The hammocks and s’mores (in the early evening) are a nice touch. The restaurant is where we tend to eat when we stay, the food’s excellent 💥 My kids and I look forward to another trip up as soon as our schedules align! Thank you Trailborn ❤️

- Chris (7/5): Excellent location and staff; cleanliness and noise leave more to be desired; okay on value - The location of this property is amazing - it's centrally located and easy to access downtown, events, Rocky Mountain National Park, restaurants, and much more. The hotel bar (and back patio firepit) is excellent and something convenient to do in the evenings - meet other people, enjoy some drinks without driving anywhere - and the staff was really fun and pleasant (especially the bartender, Conner)! The room itself was large (much more than I needed as I was by myself, but that's what was available when I booked it) and the bed was really comfortable. I booked my stay last-minute. There were two rooms remaining, both "King Suites" or something and the difference appeared to be that one was ADA compliant or handicap accessible (on the first floor) and the other was advertised to have a balcony (at an extra $50). It was cold so I wouldn't have likely made use of the balcony, but many hotels that offer one have a view - so I booked it. They don't offer rooms with balconies so this is an inaccuracy on booking.com and one that cost extra money. When I checked in (at 8:45am) in the morning I was told that my room was not available yet, but they would put me in the queue. Official check-in time isn't until 4:00pm - and when check-in was available they had to make a last-minute repair to the room (so I couldn't actually check-in yet). I finally got into my room about 4:30pm. At this point the time difference wasn't that significant and they gave me a discount at the hotel bar, which I appreciated. Once I got into my room, the refrigerator was full of old food. I took it out and tied it up in the trash myself only to find there was ice build-up (with food in it) in the back of the refrigerator. I tossed the food I had and did not use the refrigerator. I would've called the front-desk but at this point I just wanted to lay down in my room. I then went to take a hot bath, but the bathtub had some discoloration (probably spilled shampoo or something) and "hairs" all over the tub, and I realized it hadn't been cleaned - I certainly wasn't going sit in it. I remember the breakfast being excellent (last time I stayed), but it seemed they weren't offering it in the morning when I checked out, which was a bummer because I was looking forward to it and we were talking about it the night before, and I'm pretty sure it was included in the price of my stay - but there was no one there when I checked out around 8:30a.

These two unicorns do it all from checking you in, drink maker, host, chef, concierge etc ... give them some love and attention by visiting and enjoying some good food in a quiet atmosphere. Awesome, personalized margarita too. Connor examines the details from selecting the perfect lime, making sure your glass is clean and directing us to the perfect cinnamon roll for our early AM cravings.

We were pleasantly surprised that they had food as well. The cook, was fantastic. The food was so good and our Bartender Connor shared that the cook also was responsible for the drink menu. They make a hell of a team!

Service was 10/10. Our server Connor was great and definitely made our casual “kill time” into an enjoying experience. Extensive knowledge of the menu and had great conversation skills.

The salad that I got was so filling and the flavors were unreal! This place is a must go to. Literally the best meal I have had in a while. We did not stay at the hotel, but the restaurant and lobby were wonderful!

- shamilahm2026 (10/5): Welcoming experience - I don't remember the lady's name, if I remember correctly she was a manager, but she was working on Dec 30, 2025. Such a sweetheart honestly. She offered us s'more and even left them out when she was gonna put the away. She always answered all of our questions and had a smile at all times. When we had to check out a day before she made the process really simple and helped us with any inconvenience we had. We would definitely stay there in the future if we are in the area again. Highly recommend, such a welcoming environment.

The smores where a wonderful touch. Just made my birthday feel special and wonderful. We will be back hopefully in the summer to try out the pool and other things. I know my son would love it. Thank you for upgrading and making it a nice time. Bed was comfortable and a really nice room. Could hearr the people above us. But that is not the hotels fault. Over all a wonderful experience!

I told the front desk about it and they said I need to request the clean the room. Other places I request not to clean the room. Cleaning person is not professional they just replace towels empty trash cans that it. This place is not worth what I paid for. This place is compatible to some cheap motel level.

- carlossN2633OH (6/5): October 2025 - The stay was ordinary. Clean room and bathroom. The room did let in a lot of outside noise. Highway 36 is right in front of the hotel. The doors to the rooms are to the outside (MOTEL STYLE). The locations is great. Free parking on location, but the hotel is also right in front of the free public parking as well. Lake Estes is right across the road. Easy walk to all the shops on the riverwalk. We went October and we could see Elk and we could hear the elk bugling. NO BREAKFAST included. However there is a decent breakfast place a walking distance from the hotel called the Egg of Estes. There was waiting list when we arrived at 9a. I would stay again as a couple's trip or solo. Not sure as a family trip.

- taneum1 (8/5): Nice Enough, Not Fantastic - We got checked in okay, staff at front desk was more than polite. This was the day of 10-13-25. It’s setup in the trees so there are tons of pine needles every where. I know this is critical, but I thought the walkways in front of the rooms would be swept off though, along with the bird poop too. We were next to the storage room, which is fine, but they had all kinds of pillows and sheets (still wrapped in their plastic) all over the place outside. They did get it put away though. They noted the pool was open and warm. We didn’t have swimsuits so we didn’t go in, but pine needles all over the place, floating and on the bottom. Had we brought our suits, we wouldn’t have gone in. As for the room, it was “meh”, nothing special. Seemed clean enough except for the cove heater above the TV, it was stained with something splashed on it, and fairly dusty. Beds seemed okay, soft, but comfy enough. The bathroom was typical, nothing special, but fairly clean. Shower looked like newer tiled walk in. I’m guessing the toilet paper dispenser had come out of the a few times as there were holes patched up around it. There was a candy wrapper on the floor next to the bed. We had to leave early due to a sick kid, so only stayed one of two nights and they were nice enough not to charge us the second night. Would I stay here again? Yes, I just think since it’s in Estes, I thought for some reason it should’ve been super nice. Cleanliness of site = 3 Cleanliness of room = 4 Politeness of staff = 5

However, daily room cleaning was not provided during my stay, and the shower’s shampoo and soap dispensers were empty. A few small improvements in housekeeping would make the experience much better.

- steven (6/5): - This property is basically a Motel 6 that had a minor facelift. The owners fancied up the lobby area but they didn’t do much to the rooms, they are small but adequate if you’re spending most of your time outdoors. We had a clogged sink and shower and although the shower was remedied by the front desk clerk by removing the “hair catcher” basket below the drain grate (gross), the sink remained clogged for the entire week. During our stay they appeared short staffed; do not bother calling the front desk, nobody answers. You could hear every footstep and movement from the room above ours; very annoying. Apparently this is known by the property staff as there are complimentary ear plugs next to your bed upon arrival. Despite some property degradation issues, the room was clean and the location is within walking distance to the city center. For a $200/night price point I just expected a little more.

- WindKeeper (6/5): Hold Your Breath - Trailborn Rocky Mountain could have a lot of potential if they could put all the elements together. Although our reservations were for a non-smoking room, our experience was anything but non-smoking. The entire place smelled of marijuana and cigarette smoke and we couldn't seem to keep it from coming into our room. There was cigarette butts everywhere. Upon further looking, there wasn't any "no smoking" signs anywhere and it showed -almost as if it was welcome. It is very obvious that this was a retrofit of a much older facility. Some items, were designed well and looked super pretty, but around them seemed to be patch-work and older items that need replacing. The beds were super comfortable and interior design was cool. There was only window shades on the front window but no way to block or dampen then light that came into the other windows (judging by our constant bombardment of smoke, they aren't sealed well either). Our shower curtain did have mold. The reception area was warm and inviting - very pretty too! It's unfortunate that they advertise breakfast and food services but don't offer them on Monday or Tuesday. The staff was very nice and shared some fun stories with us along with local recommendations.

- WayneToTheMax (8/5): Retro-designed, renovated hotel/motel. Loved It! - We loved this retro-designed, renovated hotel/motel and would love to have rated this with a 5 star review but there were a couple things which I can't overlook. But first, the hotel is fabulous with a welcome drink from the bar when you arrive. There's a fire pit in the rear courtyard and S'mores to make each evening ! How cool is that! The rooms are modern and fun, very comfortable. However, the room air conditioner was turned off so the management had placed a portable air conditioner in each room that was vented out the sliding glass window. While that was a thoughtful addition, it left us feeling less secure with the window unlocked (it was still screened) and the outside road noise was quite loud from trucks starting up at the street light on the street. When we asked about a heater, the manager brought us a portable room heater which again was appreciated but took up more space by the window. All of this to say, we didn't blame the staff or reception folks. They were great and very attentive. It was mainly the room climate control that concerned us. Regardless, we still loved our stay and the lobby, courtyard, pool and parking were all top notch.

We immediately asked for a new shower curtain, but they had no spare shower curtains & they said they would get maintenance to address it but they had already left for the day. We finally got a replacement shower curtain on the last night of our 4 night stay, but they just dropped it off. I had to take down the moldy one & put the clean one up myself. The sofa in the room had multiple mystery stains so we never put anything on it or sat on it. Housekeeping was very inconsistent. They made the bed 2 of the days we stayed, left some fresh towels 1 day (but not any wash cloths - they were out), and they took the trash out 1 day. One morning, they had coffee out in the lobby, but I had to go to the other location down the street for the “complimentary grab & go breakfast”. It was just yogurt & muffins, so don’t bother with that if you do have the misfortune to stay here. We also heard them tell another group of guests they were running low on room keys & several of the rooms have broken AC with the temporary window units visible in the windows. A lot of noise from other rooms & the road. I would absolutely discourage anyone from staying here.
- Lee (6/5): - This is a glorified motel room, clean and modern, but lacking in amenities given the price. While there was a mini-fridge and electric kettle, there was no microwave. There were no glasses, only single use paper coffee cups. The bathroom was woefully small, with no shelving and very limited counter space for toiletries. Bring "cubes" for your clothing as there is no drawer space in the room, only shelving. There was bench seating in the room, but no table of any sort (or chairs). The good: Great lighting in the room and in the bathroom and nice pillows if you like a firmer pillow. The bad: Soft bed, paper thin walls, a heating and a/c unit that was impossible to operate/change, a TV set to the wrong date and because of this, lacking the program guide (a nit). At between $200 to almost $500 per night and given its classification as an "Upscale hotel", we expected more.

You can also hear the noise from the road, adjacent rooms/rooms above you are very noisy, and you will not be able to get your room completely dark if that’s something you need to sleep at night. I would absolutely discourage anyone from staying here. We stayed for the entire stay because we were pretty sure we wouldn’t get our money refunded. When it was check-out time, the front desk attendant (a new one we had not seen before) seemed genuinely concerned when I told her this was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. She immediately wrote down all the problems I already listed above and contacted the manager. The manager, Christy, called us about 5 minutes later and profusely apologized for the problems, stated over and over “I’m going to make this right, this isn’t how we do things”. I’m not sure what she meant, but we were still charged the full amount for our stay, even though the person who checked us in late told us he would take $50 off for us not being able to check in until 2 hours later.
- Alexandra (6/5): Tried to check in & told they were overbooked - After receiving multiple messages from the hotel via text and email leading up to our stay, I was shocked to show up to check in and learn the hotel had been overbooked and we couldn't stay at our reservation. While I'm really grateful that they took the time to transfer our booking to a neighboring property, I'm confused why no one took the time to let us know before we showed up, especially after we did the online check-in that morning. I don't know if the miscommunication on the overbook was the property's fault or Hotels.com's fault, but definitely wasn't how you want to start a stay anywhere.

My room wasn’t ready and it was 4:00 pm. That was my only complaint. Got in about 30 min later. They made me a cup of tea while I waited. Which was nice. All in all, a very stay.

- JEFF (6/5): Decent place for a short stay - This is a great location for getting to everything around Estes Park, which is essentially what you are paying for. Beyond that, it is nothing special. Glad I brought my own pillow, as theirs are much firmer than other hotels. Would be nice to have a couple of softer ones.

Overall, very disappointing experience. Hotels are a part of the hospitality industry and management was anything but hospitable.

Shower lacking door consistently wet the floor of bathroom, hairs on wall and on drain cover, lack of hanging space for wedding event we were attending. Large gaps under door, difficult to get in the door. No handrail on one set of steps. No elevator for upper floor. Lobby and bar were nice. Motel was convenient to town. Overall, not impressed.

- Kristin (2/5): - My stay was extremely disappointing. I found the room to be in an unacceptable condition. It was dirty and, even more disturbing, infested with bugs. This was not only disgusting but also completely unacceptable for any hotel. I went to the front desk at 7am to let them know that the weather stripping was completely off on our door resulting in many bugs in our room. I requested that to be fixed and for the room to be thoroughly cleaned. There were multiple spiderwebs and spiders, along with other bugs throughout the room. I woke up to spiders crawling on the bed which is completely unacceptable. There were spider webs beside the nightstand, behind the bed, behind the chair with spiders and other bugs. The room clearly hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned. When I came back 9 hours later and expecting the room to be cleaned, it wasn’t. Then a guy entered the room to take out the garbage (again not clean the room). I explained the situation and requested to speak to a manager that day, I provided my phone number and requested she stop by the room to discuss the situation, she never did. I called the hotel 3 times and left my contact information to speak to the manager and she never called me back and never stopped by my room. I stopped by the front desk and left my phone number. The man working assured me that the manager would call me back to address the situation. She never did. Further, he said he could provide a $50 discount and that the manager would call me to discuss further.

- Tracey (10/5): - The room was lovely, easy walk to town centre. The bed was comfy. Only small complaint was that the sound proofing between rooms is quite poor so if you’re susceptible to noise perhaps ask for a top floor room.
