- davec747 (10/5): An Unexpected Oasis of Luxury in Rural Virginia - This gets a five because of the sheer sleep quality-- my wife and I both slept through until morning, rare for us. The pillows are better than normal, the room is a good size, and the entire place is wonderfully staffed and immaculately clean. The elevators are a little small for some luggage but that's easy to cope with. Breakfast was fantastic-- not a huge selection but high quality-- the egg souffle thing was a joy. They have a rooftop bar although they didn't have a bartender available the night we were there, but we grabbed cocktails and headed up. it has a fantastic view and comfortable seating. In all, this was worth the price.

The dining room served fantastic food options, and the staff made recommendations for us. We only stayed one night but would enjoy returning and exploring the Wytheville area.

Love that they kept the past associated with the present. Wish we would have had “real” coffee mugs in the room but everything was very nice. It was nice to have a Kerig coffee maker.
- Deanna (8/5): Always enjoy our stay to and from SC to visit grandkids - Location and cleanliness. The restaurant is great. Always good food! Definitely will keep staying there! On 4/14 when we were leaving around 6:30 am the receptionist was leaned back scrolling on her phone and didn’t even look up or acknowledge us departing. You know like maybe saying at least “Good morning “ or “Safe travels”…something. The daytime receptionist was always pleasant.

I loved also that Seven dogs and Seven sisters breweries were within walking distance. Definitely coming back and bringing my husband. They had a fabulous antique store also three blocks away called Jo Jo’s. Talked to several people and two people moved here because the town is awesome! Nothing
- Valerie (5/5): It tries but really misses the mark with breakfast, it would have been better if they didn’t offer it - The rooms were fairly decent with comfortable beds, thick towels and nice toiletries The breakfast, like every review states, was an extremely sad affair, akin to a motel 6 with nothing healthy to eat at all except a tiny pre packaged yogurt. Terrible coffee. Such a shame since the hotel has some history and seems to try in most other areas.

- Jason (6/5): Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, lumpy bed - The hotel is absolutely beautiful. It is warm and inviting, located centrally to everything in Wytheville. The staff are friendly, professional, and welcoming. Two key items that really need to be addressed: 1) There is a lot of noise. We could hear the sound of our neighbors snoring next door and we could hear the patter of feet from above. The AC unit also made a great deal of noise throughout the night that wouldn't stop, no matter what the setting was. It got so bad that we eventually turned it off completely. 2) The bed. We can't speak to the other rooms, but our bed was in rough shape. It was clean, but it was lumpy and broken down. My wife couldn't sleep because the bed was so uncomfortable. At one point, she was forced to try to sleep with her feet pointing towards the headboard.

It's quiet and uncrowded and the hotel is wonderful with lot's of history. Rooms are always clean and comfortable. The breakfast is free so it's hard to complain, but to be honest it was not very good. There were no meat choices. The eggs were dry and tasteless and the sausage gravy was not good.

- TravelBud536 (10/5): Terrific historical hotel - This is probably the most enjoyable hotel I've stayed at that I can remember! Everything about this historic hotel was fantastic—updated, clean, reasonably priced, and very quiet. The staff and front desk were friendly and helpful, and the lobby was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The front patio looks like a great place to relax and watch the world go by. It was too cold to enjoy in January, but it would be wonderful in warmer months. Breakfast was included and quite good, served on real plates and silverware, which was a nice touch. Easy access from the expressway and free parking made our stay even more convenient. We would definitely stay here again.

Walls were a bit thin, but the beds were so comfy we still slept well.

She explained the local dining options, and we decided to try the onsite restaurant Graze on Main. The service and the food were exceptional! The coffee at breakfast. I'm a coffee snob, sorry!
- Betty (9/5): Really nice 😊 - Very neat and quaint! We didn’t realize you needed to have someone in reception adjust the air in the room. We tried with the remote in the room but it didn’t work. Too cold but they adjusted it from reception and it was fine.

I did not expect it . I understand shoes, etc, but it was very dry outside so we could not have dragged in that amount of grime

- Anne (9/5): Wonderful historic hotel in a quaint town. - Loved walking around the small town and reading about the history of this iconic old hotel. It felt like stepping back in time. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We will return in the summer to take advantage of the amazing rooftop bar and outdoor patio.

- cowone (9/5): very nice place, historical, interesting and comfy - Breakfast plentiful and good, nice that it lasts until 10am, some hotels cut off at 9am and I might want to sleep late after a night out. Bed and pillows very comfy, nice towels. Cute lamps. Love the makeup mirror in bathroom. Close to "downtown" events so didn't have to drive. Walls a little thin, some noise from adjoining rooms, but quieted down after midnight. USB charging ports didn't all work, only found 1 on a lamp that did work. Drink from bar was over lemon juiced, very tart. In past drinks here have been very good, balanced. The heating/cooling unit on wall facing bed had a VERY BRIGHT blue light that lit up the entire room at night. I prefer total darkness so it was a little hard to get to sleep. I could see it with eyes closed.

- Hamilton (9/5): Having a good restaurant for dinner was an added bonus and it met our needs and beyond. Great time! - Breakfast was good but no way to order off menu that I could see. They need to serve biscuits and gravy as this is an old hotel in the south. The room was a bit smaller than I expected and no way to put but one chair and for two of us an extra chair would have been better as the bed are very high and not easy to sit on.

We always enjoy historic hotels, especially in this area that has so many historical stories to tell. We learned so many unique facts and details about Edith Bolling Wilson that we never knew. The renovation of this space to tell her story is excellent. There was nothing that we did not like.

- TravelFan18123 (10/5): Beautiful hotel with nice bar and restaurant, and everything we needed. - The hotel is beautiful and has a restaurant and bar on the first floor, as well as a rooftop bar. Our room was quiet (and dark with the shade closed) and had a comfortable bed, big tv, nice spacious bathroom, mini fridge, Keurig coffee maker, and fast Wi-Fi. This hotel is well worth the short drive away from the highway, and we would love to stay again in the future (hopefully when we have more time to enjoy the amenities and surrounding area. Worth mentioning - the restaurant, Graze, had lots of options on the menu but I have a weird food allergy. The chef came out and talked to us about what I was interested in and what he could make for me. I really appreciate the extra effort to make sure I was able to enjoy my dinner.

- INTraveller (10/5): Very nice place to stop - We enjoyed this hotel - it was comfortable, the in-house restaurant was very convenient, and we enjoyed learning some history. The rooms themselves didn't feel particularly historic (alas, were decorated when gray walls were fashionable), but were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was just motel-standard, although the biscuits were excellent.
- Michael (5/5): Challenging! - Food in restaurant blew our socks off (chef won’t be there long). More than made up for stadium lighting and horrible acoustics. Wear sunglasses and ear plugs/head phones. Good marketing—place is nothing like it seems. Overpriced. Can’t charge Resort Fee because they have no amenities so they charge a $9 historic fee for 97 year-old hotel where an 88 year-old former Presidents second wife stayed at one night of her life. Old-school remote for wall indiscernible by us or front desk. Coffee weak.

- Carol (10/5): We expected and experienced a wonderful stay at the Bolling Wilson and would recommend it to everyone. - We felt quite safe and comfortable at the Bolling Wilson. It was just what we needed after a long day on the road. The delicious breakfast in the morning gave us plenty to get us back on the road for another long travel day. We were in walking distance from anything we needed. The only thing wrong with the property is that I don’t own it myself.
- Douglas (9/5): Excellent hotel -- we are undoubtedly staying there again - We arrived a couple of hours early, but were able to check in immediately, though we didn't expect to. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming, knowledgeable of the town and hotel's history. The room was clean and tidy, and comfortable. The hotel is in the middle of a quaint downtown, with good restaurant options for any meal in easy walking distance. Skeeter's hot dogs are excellent -- we had the Yahoo dog and the Big Matt -- for lunch. The Log House 1776 restaurant had an excellent steak and salmon for dinner. The Elizabeth Wilson house and museum is right across the street, with an informative and free tour, with a knowledgeable tour guide, for any history buff. A very good breakfast comes with the room -- good sausage and bacon. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The scrambled eggs were a bit too crumbly for my tastes, maybe cooked not as slowly as ideal, but clearly made from fresh eggs.
