Guest Reviews
- Troy (2/5): - Mould infestation, old facilities.
- Edwin (6/5): - Dirty old place
- pratima (4/5): - The pictures I received for my room was completely different to the one I got. There was hardly any room for my belongings, very small areas for manoeuvring.
- Verified traveler (2/5): POOR - Poor service, no soap, no room cleaning and towels change for 5 nights. The most upset was they didn't accept luggages storage even I had rebooked the stays after a short trip.
- ADEWALE (2/5): - Cracked walls, noisy fridge, tv doesn't turn on, room smaller than represented in pictures. Don't recommend
- ADEWALE (2/5): - Cracked walls, noisy fridge, tv doesn't turn on. Room smaller than in picture. Do not recommend. . .
- Sabanam (10/5): - I love everything about this hotel
- peter (10/5): Condition - Condition of the rooms left much to be desired.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Alirght for HK - Good price and quality for the location, wall paint is peeling, but bathroom and sheets were clean, Air con, kettle and fridge worked, but internet was choppy
- David (8/5): Typical Hong Kong Hotel - The hotel is in an excellent location, very close to the subway, shopping and dinning. The room is small, as are most Hong Kong hotels, but sufficient for two people. There were a couple of English channels on TV. Some of the staff did struggle with English though.
- Dustin (2/5): M1 stands for 1 star - Staff was horrible they were sleeping on the job. They give us one key 2 people staying in room. Ask them for another key $70 per key wow. Very rude will never stay there again. Over $230 dollars a night go to the Hilton they have class.
- Prakriti Mohan (8/5): good location small room size - Convenient location. 5 min walk for metro stn to visit nearby places like temple street market , mongkok etc and 5 min walk to A21 flyer bus stop for airport. Rooms are very small though and because of small size some inconvenience. Its a no frills so donot expect service. They will charge you for every thing.. even plain drinking water.
- Alfred (2/5): - The room is tiny and filthy, peeled paint on every wall, bathroom tile cracked and no room services at all during my seven night stay. Tv remote not working properly as well, have to use the buttons on the TV set to operate.
- Weng Lee (6/5): - Pros: Good locale to sights and attractions. Close to MTR exits.
Negatives: Room was dirty on arrival. Sink had leftover strawberrie stalks and corner table looked like someone had left nose buggers on it. Staff also unhelpful with sim card install as all i required was a pin to eject tray
- Eva (6/5): - The property is super close to many dining options and in the evening they have quite a few dining options that open late. The hotel is right next to a collection site and a couple of casket shops. Overall, didn't feel unsafe, it's always vibing HK and if you're always out and about and just need a place to shower and sleep this is the place for you. The rooms we opted for had a double bed and a washroom and a bay area by the window that you can sort out your luggage. Great for 1-2 person stays, don't think it was very kid or family friendly. Also, note if you stay there for a long haul, they do not switch out your sheets/towels until the 4th day. Didn't get a chance to try out the restaurant on the 1st level, but the food looks pretty good.
- David (8/5): - Overall the stay was within my expectation for the price range. I've stayed at a few other hotel around the area and the room size with 2 twin bed is definitely on the smaller size but acceptable. Washroom is cleaner than some that I've been to. The exhaust fan was not working in the washroom and the ac unit is a tad bit dusty and noisy. Cleanliness is decent. Sheets and bed were good, I observed the cleaner scrubbing the washroom floor. The only area they missed cleaning is underneath the bed, I found an empty water bottle and a tissue. Even 4 star hotel cleaners easily miss areas like this so I'm not super disappointed. The only main complaint I have is the hint of smoke for a non-smoking room. The previous guest must've smoke near the curtain/window.
ppl that complain about size need to set their expectations to HK standards. If you want a 250sf room pay triple the price. If you just need a small room to sleep on a budget this is more than enough. The same goes for customer service, this isn't japan for 4 star hotel, set your standards to HK average level of customer service and you will be good.
Location is probably the best attribute about this hotel. Extremely close to mtr and within walking distance to temple street/lady street. I honestly did not mind the coffin stores next door, quite unique, rarely do I get to see those old style coffin shops. I wouldn't mind staying here again.
- Jacky (4/5): - The hotel is located in between 2 coffin shops which I felt pretty uncomfortable staying in such loxation. Also, the room condition is poorly maintained (eg, the aircond ventilation is full of dust and cigarette smell despite non-smoking room was requested).
- Alan Hau Leung (8/5): - Excellent location but facilities are old.
- Jovi (10/5): - So Far its great
- Kelvin (4/5): Never again - Decided to try a new hotel but soon realised it was a mistake. Check in time is strictly at 2pm and checkout at 12pm. The 2 gals with glasses at the reception simply had no sense of service nor hospitality. I arrived at 12pm after a very early morning flight hoping to check in but was just shoved away with a '2pm' coldly when attempting to check in.
Room condition was bad with peeling walls, stains etc. Not to mention the entry to the hotel is just simply weird. The hotel is also next to a shop that sells coffins.
- Chee fung (4/5): - that place was the worst the bed sheets like if there is bed bugs
- Israr (6/5): A bit disappointed with room conditions - I feel compelled to share my experience regarding the poor condition of the room I was assigned.
It was totally different from pictures shown on hotels.com
Once I entered the room, I noticed dirtiness. Room and furniture looked very old. Can see mold or water leaking marks on ceiling.
No cupboard in the room. Just a wall hanger near window.
Upon checking-in, I told reception staff that I requested 2 single beds but they said it’s on request and no room with 2 single beds available. I had no choice. Headed to my room. To my surprise, it’s was 2 single beds there. How come staff didn’t know that.
- Hailing (2/5): - The staff was super bad, asking for 1000 deposit when Orbitz says only 500. They even said that they won't lend plug adapter even when they have it. Dirty everywhere as well.
- 340StephenM (4/5): One critical flaw... - My entire experience here was colored by the a/c that did not work. Even after asking the staff to check on it and maintenance telling me that it was working, it did not work. The room temperature was never below about 24 C or nearly 80 F during my stay resulting in an uncomfortable stay.
The location is great, restaurants and service near the hotel are very good. The room, as to be expected is very small, but was clean and well maintained (except for the a/c).
- Ka Chun (8/5): - Quiet
- Manbo (6/5): - Acceptable considering the very affordable price. But the hotel seems a bit worn down. Towels are old. Security is okay though.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Perfect location. Check in staff has no manner at all.
- Wai yee (2/5): It’s a SCAM! Room actually cost us 11 times more! - We booked the room via hotel.com. Once confirmed booking, hotel.com sent us a notice if the guest got covid infected, will be charged $4000 for deep cleaning. We called hotel staff as it is non refundable, so to make sure.
The hotel staff said clearly over the phone, “just ignore such 4000, don’t worry” ok we checked in normally.
Unluckily, I was infected during the stay. Now they charged us $4000!?
At first, we didn’t agree to any $4000 deep cleaning policy. We asked and got confirmation just ignoring that. We checked in. Now they charged us $4000?! On what ground can the hotel charged us to the policy we haven’t agreeed, we clarified that doesn’t apply to us, but we are charged 11 times more than the room it self?!
The hotel is sneaklly. We asked hotel.com to investigate. Now the hotel.com didn’t investigate but trust blindly to what hotel said. “We didn’t answer any call. The guest agreed on the $4000 deep cleaning policy”
First, I very disappointed to the hotel. Absolutely a SCAM! And now disappointed on the “investigation”, first is $4000 deep policy a normal practice for Hk hotels? Or all hotel.com booking? And is it reasonable?
I’ve used hotel.con for years. No way I can find such sneaky policy. It’s just totally a SCAM in Hk tourism industry.
- Wai yee (4/5): Over charge for covid cleaning (4000!?) - Booked via hotel.com. No warning said would charge thousand for cleaning until booking confirmed and unable to refund. I checked in with RAT negative, checked out with PCR positive though RAT still negative. Hotel insisted to charge us 1000 for cleaning. So to book this hotel make sure you never get COVID during the stay, otherwise they can charge 4000 if they want. Does it make sense? What kind of deep cleaning they do cost such 4000?
Surely it’s overcharged. They probably ask the cleaning staff put on a 100 dollar PBE for such “deep cleaning”
Totally disappointed for this hotel and very impolite staff (impolite even before check in and RAT was negative that time)?!
- Tsz Shan (4/5): - Room was smelly, bedsheet
- Nitesh (6/5): - Bad WiFi
Need to login every time
- Ka Him Matthew (2/5): Terrble experience - Its dirty, dust on the floor. I can definitely find a much better place with just a slightly more money. Booked a two night stay, left after the first night.
- Amy (2/5): - Front desk service is poor, no sitting area while guess waiting. Wifi service drops every minute, causing users unable to complete a simple transaction without keep trying at midnight.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent for budget travelers - I stay here by random since we need to stop over Hong Kong overnight, then return home by morning flight.
The room was newly renovated, stylish and comfortable.
Thus the shower is small but still have glass door to separate dry and wet area.
I would recommend it in terms of price, location and quility.
- Boon Hua (8/5): Value for money hotel - Return stay within a week. Both stay hotel wifi was not working fortunately every room there was a free mobile phone which can be used as a hotspot.
- Boon Hua (8/5): Nice hotel - Good location, near MTR station, many restaurants nearby. Not forgetting the friendly staffs.
- Verified traveler (4/5): dirty shower curtain - the photo looked wayyy too good for the hotel..duvets are thin as paper and bathroom setting is so weird and small... wet shower curtain kept sticking onto me when I'm showering.
would not recommend it.
- Hoi Kwan (8/5): - refill material sometimes were required to order to fill in such as tea bag or toilet paper
- Verified traveler (10/5): - clean, tidy, neat and convenient. Nice place to stay
- Verified traveler (4/5): - the front dask staff services attitude feel not good.Room facilities were worst
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I like the interior design of my room. I dislike the mattress. It seems like it's an ensemble mattress i can feel the spring . So i was lying on 3 pillows. I told the staff on my check out day.
- raymond (2/5): - The hotel is dirty. The floor, vinyl or hardwood, hasn't been vacuumed for years. The telephone and other things in the room have not cleaned for a long time. The bedsheet and shower seemed to be clean. The Wifi was slow and was disconnected every 30 minutes. The only good thing about this hotel is the location. I don't think that I'll come back.
- Petto (8/5): - easy to access, nearly the MTR but the rooms a bit too small
- Verified traveler (4/5): - On arrival front house was very rude.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Convenient location but poor all-around condition - The location of the hotel is good and convenient for a shopping trip in Hong Kong. But other than that, this hotel is not good. The room is small and the hotel gave me a twin bed room, though I travelled solo. There is no space for other activities inside the room at all. The mattress and pillow are not comfortable and I got bitten by mites after the first night. I had booked 4 nights but don't think I can stay there for 3 more nights. I checked out from the hotel, though my deal is a non-refundable one. Poor experience!
- swee meng (2/5): Unless you are on a budget , give this a miss - its a horrible place unless u are really on a tight budget . when u close the door , the alarm keep beeping . I tried to open and close several times and its just couldn't stop beeping . the quality of the bed is very low and the space is super super super small .
- MARC (8/5): Good for Savvy Budget Business Traveler - Staff is courteous, efficient, helpful. Good to see familiar faces who also remember our prior stays. Many visits every year for business. Kowloon Airport Express in close proximity with free shuttle to within blocks of the hotel (take K5, 1st stop). Easy return to Airport or access to High-Speed Train to New Territories. Convenient Yaumatei MTR station virtually outside door of the Hotel makes travel into Central Hong-Kong easy and affordable. Many local eateries of all levels from restaurant to "street food". Temple Street Night Market, Kowloon Park nearby. More local flavor than heavily visited tourist areas of Jordan and Tsimshatsui which are all easily accessed when desired.
- Yo (8/5): - This hotel is good enough for me to just take a shower and sleep.
- zephwayne (2/5): My second and last stay with M1 Hotel Yau Ma Tei - This is my second stay with M1 Hotel, I first stayed in 2017 similarly for four nights. My experience with M1 Hotel then was poor, nothing has changed two years on; it could be worse.
Check-in:
Relatively quick process but do I really have to queue along the tiny and narrow “lobby”? Check-in/front desk staff’s attitude were generally cold, they did not offer any greeting and pleasantries whatsoever.
Note that a deposit of HKD1,000 applies per room.
Rooms:
Small, even by the standards of Hong Kong. The room had thin walls, soundproofing was inexistent.
The amenities provided were few and basic. The room was fairly clean, or it seemed so at least, fixtures and equipment were poorly maintained.
There was very little space for my luggage, even lesser space for moving around. Getting up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom can be an obstacle course in itself.
Wall sockets are ample and scattered, though not necessarily in working condition. Light switches are located by the door and cannot be accessed from the bed.
No dressing table, work table or wardrobe of sorts.
Location:
Possibly the only good thing about this hotel. The hotel is sandwiched between two MTR exits. The exit with lift access can be reached via a fully sheltered route from the hotel entrance. Quality F&B options are located in close proximity. The popular tourist areas of Mongkok, Ladies Street and Temple Street are within a 15-20 minute walking distance.
It is by no means a lousy hotel - the stay was really bearable and some would label me “fortunate”. It’s just that I’ve had much better experiences elsewhere for a similar price paid. Other hotels in the vicinity may give you a better bang for your buck.
- Wayne (2/5): - This is my second visit and literally nothing has changed since 3 years ago apart from its physical presence.
This hotel has a great location - it is located within a 2 minute walk from two MTR exits which includes a fully sheltered walk to the lift that leads to the MTR concourse.
That is everything that is good about this hotel.
What else can you expect from your potentially miserable stay?
- A small reception, lobby area and lifts.
- High cash deposit (HKD1,000 per room)
- Small and poorly designed rooms with extremely thin walls.
- Poorly maintained facilities, namely taps (wash basin and shower), toilet bowls, door.
- Generally unfriendly and cold counter staff (no greeting or smile whatsoever).
- Strong presence of cigarette smell in non-smoking room.
- Weak wifi connection.
- Poor or inexistent sound proofing in rooms.
- No wardrobe.
- Uncomfortable bed with double bed/queen bed made by placing two single beds adjacent to each other.
- Toilet is horribly cramped, shower curtains were dirty and poorly positioned, ceiling was shabby.
- Inexistent walking space in room.
- Impractical positioning of luggage storage area (requires lifting across the bed).
Hotel is still surviving due to its location. I’m very interested to see how it’ll remain in business with new rivals around the block.
- KamolL (8/5): - good location.
I stay 2nigth with my girlfriend but I think the room is too small room for 2.
- alexandersH4430LD (8/5): The prices are very competitive - This hotel is a hotel near the shopping center and also very much with the food area, there are fashion "giordano", "baleno", and shops selling souvenirs "Aji Chiban" very varied snacks and chocolate.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Booking with no reservation - I booked double bed for two person, but they gave me 2 small twin beds separately, I hope they really understand and learn definition of "booking" means.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was extremely small. Other than the bed, you basically only have enough space for the luggage. That was it! The bathroom is very tiny too. You have 3-tile space for shower. Next to the toilet. Basically, after you take a shower, your toilet will be all wet. They offered free breakfast daily. But, I had only 1 time and never gone back again. Their free breakfast was chicken broth + macaronis. The location of the hotel is horrible too. on the left, there's shop sells coffins. On the right, there's a paper recycling store. They recycle dirty cardboard boxes. Then, the shop next to the paper recycling store is a funeral home. = (
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Unfortunately I didn’t like anything about this property except the lady who was cleaning the room
Room (standard) is very small I had to upgrade the room, it’s not like what’s showing in the pictures, breakfast is very very bad
- Verified traveler (4/5): - tv spoil on 16 june, called, waited and nobody appeared.
- Yen Choo (10/5): - Good location , room is clean , bed is comfy
- Ling (6/5): - Nearly MRT, Small room but value match with price.
Good value...
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location , service is average , room size is small , staff are friendly thou but strongly suggest should always wear a smile
- Verified traveler (8/5): Will come back - Good room, however bed too strong
- CJ (2/5): - Horrible smell in the room. Sewerage system needs to be checked. Quite an old hotel with mould visible.
- Penwan (6/5): - We stayed 4 nights because we like the location but
we had some problems about cleanliness because
me and my wife got rash every morning we assumed that it
caused by dust mites,
- Wayne (6/5): M1 Yau Mai Tai - This hotel is conveniently located but has very small rooms & could do with a good clean. It does have a great feature of a FREE smart phone with all calls & net while you are staying there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good Value - The location is quite convenient to shopping, dining and public transportation. The room is large and clean and the handy device is a plus.
- S B (6/5): - it was not a good stay at all, small rooms, no amenities, very poor bathroom and room stinks.
- Luke (4/5): Fake photos - Photos used are nothing like the room, small and dirty
- Alex (2/5): - Worst bed that i have slept on while traveling. Toilet wont flush the first day i got there. Everything is very dated, does not look like picture.
- David_CCC2 (2/5): Very Poor Customer Service - Poor service at reception counter (25 Mar 2019, about 4pm, a bespectacled male staff), delayed / refused my check in for the minor error/mis-spelt of Guest name (booking made via Agoda), despite of the presence of myself at the counter. No effort made to do the necessary verification by the staff, though no other guest was at the counter then.
He just directed me to call Agoda for the amendment. After my verbal confirmation with Agoda on the amendment (on guest name), I received an email on the said confirmation from Agoda immediately. I showed the said email to him, but he didn't even bother to look at it, instead, he asked me to wait for 15 minutes without even bother to check his desktop computer for such confirmation. So rude, he was seen busy sorting out his paper works at the reception desk, instead of sorting out my check-in. His tone was very arrogant, and definitely not fit to be in the hospitality industry.
I also observed that other frontline staff are of similar attitude - lack of basic manners and politeness.
As there have been many adverse comments by guests in the past, the Management should have done something about it.
- Teenoi88 (8/5): Comfort and convenience - This hotel have bigger room than hotel in apartment building good location a few walk to MTR and bus stop surround by local eat and convenience store room are clean and toilet have wet and dry it surprise me in Hong Kong
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good location, rooms qere adequate, having the 'handy' phone was excellent to avoid expensive data roaming!
Unfortunately the toilet in my room was leaking onto the floor. I did notify reception staff who said they would get some one to look at this, but it qas never followed up.
- jonathan (4/5): A long week! - Great location I’ve stayed at several times. One week stay in smallest room I’ve had in Hong Kong over the years. Bed springs pushing through top of mattress. No room for a small chair. No room to put my small roller board suitcase. Will shop smarter and harder next time
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Too small not even turn around
Facility poor not clean and tidy
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Found hair and dirt on floor. Overall is good. Near MTR easy to access.
- Romy (8/5): Good location - Convenient location and friendly services
- Verified traveler (8/5): - An old building with exposed pipes makes me feel bad and dirty, on towel hard wear
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location, have all things i need despite beung very small. Bed could be a bit higher
- JDL19 (4/5): Check your towels before using - One of the worst parts during our stay in this hotel were the towels. We stayed there for 4 days, and every time we asked them to change the towels, the replacement towels always looked clean, but close-up there were hair and dirt that were stuck to them them! And this didnt happen once, but 3 times. Disgusting.
The room and the bed also turned out to be smaller than in the photo.
Location, though, was good. The nearby restaurants were good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - good services and be pretty quite, the light in the bathroom didn’t work so they fixed it quickly 👍
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Next to a paper recycling shop sidewalk always blocked. Room is very small but clean.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Is very close the MTR, just round the corner. Lots of food throughout the day to choose from. The stay was 'somewhat ok' for a short trip, however the room is not well maintain, like the toilet bowl was leaking.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I liked the staff friendly and helpful
I was charged triple for my room without prior warning
They said it was for Chinese new year
terrible.
- HemiA_11 (4/5): The hotel room is as small as possible - The room is about six square meters. There is a bed, a chest of drawers, a shower on the toilet and a sink [ all on the 6 sqm]. The distance between the bed and the wall is 40 cm. There is no closet. There is a shelf next to the built window on which to place the put suitcases. The room beside us rattled at night, complained at the resrvtion about the noise, and they came to scold us ..... except for the location, I would not approach this hotel.
- Zoe (4/5): - Hotel staff not.friendly, one of the room was not ready during.check in, the room was messed with the towel and rubbish everywhere.
- anrutano (4/5): Should have been better - Room does not have ample space. Breakfast was frustrating. No lobby to seat unless you want to seat outside. A renovated old building transformed into a mediocre hotel. Communication wise, good. You have nearby bus and train station.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean and nice hotel close to MTR station (Yau Ma Tei)
- Fearless01109502357 (10/5): Great Value - It's near MTR and bus stops. Also have a great selection of food around the area. Highly recommended! Lots of activities that you can do around the area. It's also near Mokong where the night market is..
- Melissa (6/5): - Add extra bed for S$88 per night, but the bed was wobby, not even proper bed. I can already get another more spacious room for that add on price. 1 of the days we have breakfast, we add bed but the hotel only gave 2 vouchers saying that is the max for per room, quite ridiculous.
- Edwin (6/5): - Very small room but great location. Just beside the yau ma tei mtr
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location if you have shopping plan at Monkkok.Breakfast is average.(It would be great if threy have American breakfast)
- Sanjay (4/5): Very little value - From the miniature reception to tiny rooms even by Hong Kong standards, sub standard linen and awful place to spend your nights in a truly bustling city. There are better choices, The City View hotel is much better option and even better value .
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The queen bed basically occupies the whole room with only a foot or two to move around especially for 2 people with luggage.
Hotel was right beside a recycling plant and therefore smelly when we walk by in the morning or night.
Wi-fi was slow.
Front desk staff was not friendly. They dont even bother to greet the guest upon arrival. Hotel security is lacking.
Would not stay in this hotel again
- J (8/5): - Great location. Close to subway. Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby.
- Stanley (6/5): - Accessible, walking distances from MTR station. Decent experience.
- Patricia (8/5): Strategic Location near Yau Ma Tei Station Exit C - M1 Yau Ma Tei is very centrally located, you can walk to Kowloon Area where the sneakers shop - ladies market and also temple street market is located. Lots of food nearby and definitely lots of shopping which HK is famous for.
To get there you simply take the Yau Ma Tei Station MTR and go for exit C, The hotel is right around the corner.
All said on the location- the room itself is quite small but still ok.
the one thing I wasnt happy is the bed. It was very hard to sleep on. which is not comfortable.
other than that, everything else was good.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The room was nothing like the photos
- Matthew (6/5): - Their customer service really deserves some attention. I moved to a new hotel and my stay has been night and day better. I wish I would have moved sooner and my trip would have been better.
- Fyee (6/5): - Excellent location. But the mattress is horrible.
- Siew (4/5): Room Way too Small - The room was so small that I could hardly fit my luggages inside the room. There is no space to walk to my bed so I have to crawl over from one single bed to the other single bed.
Worst breakfast I had ever tasted and the staff were very unfriendly and rather rude. They should retire and not work in hospitality service. There were only 2 Choices of food offered. They were appalling!
The reception staff were friendly and helpful. High give for them.
I appreciate the complimentary use of the mobile to even make international calls.
- raincw (6/5): Fair - I booked at around hkd500 and they upgraded the room for me
still a bit small
no toilet paper
noise isolation is noot good
the room is clean and quite comfortable though
the design is not bad
overall acceptable in this area
- Fion (8/5): - Good location , Near to MTR, Easy to access
Although room is small but was up to standard.
