Douglas (6/5): - Went to check in at 9pm — office locked. Knocked — no answer! Had to call, then man was surprised that he had another check-in as they were sold out! Lady comes and wants ID without telling me that there was actually a room — since I was told that they were sold out, I kind of had an attitude and wasn’t quick with the ID. I had to ask if there was actually a room or not — she then tells me there is one but it is upstairs. The room was way overpriced, but we had been driving for a lot of hours and needed a place to stay. The bed had no box springs, and mattress was on boards sitting very low in a sleigh bed frame. The bedroom TV did not work! An extension cord was laying across the floor to the TV — very easily could have tripped on it as it was not taped or fastened down. Stairs were not safe, as the boards are pretty old and many steps were chipped out where they are nailed or screwed in to the sides. It’s a large room with a living room & a bedroom, but the living room only has one chair — sure would have been nice to have another chair to sit on!! Fridge is a small dorm-size fridge that is tucked into the back of a closet where a rollaway bed is stored! No idea about an ice machine — it wasn’t mentioned to me and I was too tired to deal with it….besides, I was informed that I only had until 10pm to let them know if I needed anything. I realize this is a small town, family owned motel, but as paying guests, make us feel like we are appreciated guests!!

When asked about ac or fan lady said we could leave our door open all night. I’m a single mom on vacation with 3 teens over 20 hours from home.

When I arrived, the toilet seat was was dirty with visible marks. The staff quickly cleaned the the toilet. The comforter was stained and also had visible "stuff" smeared on it. It definitely needed to be washed. I would stay there again if it were cleaner.

Christina (10/5): - Great motel. Clean with very cute rustic decor. Room had fridge, microwave, air conditioning and 2 ceiling fans. One level so you don't have to carry luggage upstairs. Will be staying again.

Hannah (8/5): Unassuming motel with lots of character - This motel is reminiscent of the roadside motel of yesteryear. The desk clerk was friendly, and the check-in was easy. Beds were comfortable, and the room was cozy. The A/C was a window unit, and this was sufficient. It appeared that the motel might be undergoing a bit of a renovation when we stayed there. This was a far better choice for our family of four than paying more than double the price to stay in Alamosa. Convenient to downtown Monte Vista. We walked to the Don Tomas Bakery for breakfast.

Russell (10/5): - The room was surprisingly comfortable for the price. Notably, the bed was able to satisfy someone who likes a firmer bed and someone who likes a softer bed. While there isn't much in Monte Vista, the location was overall convenient - right across from the Dairy Queen and near important offices in town. The hours for the front office were not perfect, but they at least had ways to handle late arrivals and early departures. Overall, it hits the right notes. Enough convenience and comfort for the price or even slightly more. Well worth the money.

He also provided some seal to fix where the water got into our pull behind trailer. The owner went above and beyond. The rooms are themed and the bed was very comfortable.

Kim (6/5): - Unfortunately the room that we had reserved was not available because of a roof leak. But the staff was able to graciously accomadated us with two rooms for no extra charge. We were so thankful. The rooms were very clean but a little stuffy. The only thing I really can say is that there was really no places close to eat or visit. It was only a place for us to pass through on our road trip. But the beds were comfy and the rooms were clean.

Yousi (10/5): - Nice place, friendly staff, and cute dogs. One of the best places to stay is to visit Grand Sand Dune NP. The room space is not very large but most of the time we are out to visit NP so totally fine.
Paul (6/5): - Frustrating stay. I arrived around 5pm to find an unattended office with a note saying "ring this number". Problem is, I'm travelling internationally with no phone access, so I spent the next 20 minutes wandering around the property looking for the desk clerk. There was also a dog in one of the rooms barking and yelping most of the night which was a constant distraction. Frankly I was pretty happy to be out of there the next morning.

Jennalee (8/5): A Good Place to Sleep for a Short Stay - It was fun to be greeted at the front desk by two friendly dogs and a curious cat. The room itself was decent. It was smaller than it looked in the photos online and extra small with the rollaway (already in the room upon arrival after requesting it online), but it was only one night so we were fine. It was a bonus to be able to sleep all 5 of us in one room as we were passing through the area. Overall, it was pretty clean, if a little worn. However, the ceiling fans are in need of a good dusting. I wish we had remembered to keep them on once the lights were off to circulate air as the window AC didn’t do the best job of cooling the room. I also wish I figured out how to keep the AC fan running all night rather than turning off and on; it would have helped drown out the sounds of some noisy neighbors late in the evening. Luckily, they quieted down a little before midnight. It was a great value for a one-night stopover in the Monte Vista. It was nice to not have to pay a lot for 2 rooms for a family of 5 when we were really in the room for a total of about 13 hours.

charliep541 (4/5): Some long term tenants? - Our room was small but clean and the bathroom had been updated. Potentially tight parking and no window views. It's an old motel at the busiest intersection in town. As with many urban motels this age it appears to have mostly long term tenants and some units used for storage or unused. It's likely your neighbors are staying much longer than you and paying much less. I wasn't able to confirm this because reception doesn't open until 9 and we left much before then.
Margaret (4/5): - Front desk receptionist was very nice and friendly. The first room I was sent to had not been cleaned after the previous guest when I arrived but I was given another. The floor in that room did not feel clean. The TV, which used roku, was not connected to the internet and the passwords I was given failed to connect it via wireless. So no TV. The water chamber of the coffee maker was not clean. The parking area was narrow and icy and required backing up some distance to get out. The lights near the bed were unable to be turned off or on without getting out of bed. There was no chair provided for the small table used for work or eating. Walls were thin enough to hear the conversation in the adjoining room.

Crystal (10/5): Friendly, clean, and comfortable - I have been staying at this motel for years. I visit Monte Vista most years to see the Sandhill Cranes. The Rio Grande motel is always friendly, clean, and comfortable. The themed rooms are fun.
Bonnie (6/5): To soft to hard broken recliner???! - Two queen beds one way to soft and sinking the other hard as hell, broken recliner in room small table with metal folding chair roku tv that wasn’t fully enabled and some timer was set that turned it off every 4 minutes than would restart?? On a good positive note amazing hot water and water pressure
lety (10/5): - Motel is in great location, we stayed there as there were no other options in Pagosa springs or the South Fork [this was a family ski trip to Wolf Creek] . It ended up being the best choice, as there was no snow on our drive to the ski resort, other than just up on the mountains. We heard some people who stayed in Pagosa and had to drive over 3 hours due to snow and accidents because of snow.
