Guest Reviews
- cains122 (2/5): Don’t book - Absolutely shocking! Staff were lovely but the hotel is disgusting. Mould and damp everywhere along with cockroaches- stay well clear
- LucyFromCapeTown (2/5): So bad - When I was looking for hotels in Penestanan, this hotel kept coming up and I was very tempted to book. However the bad reviews were pretty bad so I didn't book. Now let me tell you why I'm glad I didn't.
This review is for the "spa" as I never stayed at the hotel. Well to call it a spa, is a gross overstatement. It was 2 rooms located at the back of the hotel, with a busy and noisy road just on the outside. I walked in for a foot massage as the spa that I initially wanted to go to, I couldn't seem to find.
I was placed in a chair outside the 'spa' - which meant I was sitting in the heat - not great. The lady who worked on my feet was wearing grubby clothes - dirty pants, broken t-shirt. Her nailpolish was chipped. She didn't wash or even wipe off my feet before she started, and the 'massage' was really just her rubbing oil mostly on my legs. No technique at all. She was also on her phone half the time, sending messages, and even taking a call.
But the worst part was the state of the 'spa' and particularly the bathroom. Absolutely, disgustingly dirty. There was no light in the bathroom, just a bedside lamp plugged in right next to the tap and even that didn't work! I cannot imagine how gross it would be to have an actual massage at this place.
- 231katharinea (10/5): Great location, great staff, great (!) rooms - Worth spending a little more on this place. Great location - you can walk into the centre but if you don’t want to do that there are some great restaurants on the same road, about 3 minute walk away (breakfast, coffee, lunch, dinner, cocktails, sushi!)
Clean rooms and the whole place has a nice atmosphere. The staff are super helpful - they even let me leave my bags for 2 nights when I visited another island.
- LightPacker61521 (10/5): Great atmosphere, clean, extremely friendly and warm staffs - The resort is quite and peaceful but yet close enough to Ubud Centre. The landscape is great. The staff are very helpful and friendly. stayed here longer than I expected to.
Great for families as well. Food was great.
Would totally recommend this place.
- nultius (2/5): AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! - Pros: Beautiful landscapes, quiet, GREAT sushi place around the corner from hotel.
Cons: Smelly pool towels, not enough for our family so were given bath towels
Only 6 sun beds for n total for 2 large pools
Food was okay
1st villa -
Mouldy drinking water taps
Power points hanging out
No plugs for bath tub
No gate to the villa property, yet all other villas have gates
No bathroom bench or surface to pit any toiletries
Fridge wobbly, my husband had to put a box under it so it was stable
Towels are old and smell
Balustrade on stairs is VERY loose
Doors do not lock properly
Mould in the fridge
No dining table
1 x 2 seater chair expected for a family to use
Kitchen cupboards falling apart
Drawers do not close properly
Move rooms due to these issues....
A down grade, as said by manager himself but no mention of reimbursement for price difference.
Pros: ......
Cons:
Shower handle doesn’t sit on the holder unless you want it to spray straight on the floor so you must hold it to shower
Drainage for shower/bath combo does not work properly so all water comes back up the drain and floods the bathroom
Bugs in one of my kids beds
Sticky tape holding part of bathroom room together
Toilet not even attached to the floor, floor bathroom when flushed.
Squashed bug(?) in our bed with huge blood stains and eggs.
Dark and smelly
This hotel is an absolute joke. It needs to be shut down and completely renovated. Or bulldozed.
- alexandrap858 (4/5): Book another place - Our clothes still have a bad smell from the room. Big problem with the humidity and the mold.
The garden and pool area are nice.
The food is not so great, we have found a small bug in our breakfast - not nice!!
Also, if you want an exotic experience, you will have lizards in your room. We stayed 4 nights and had at least one on the wall each night...
There are some small shops nearby and also bike rentals. The hotel has laundry service and it is not expensive. The staff was nice.
It is ok for a short stay if you do not have big expectations and do not care about cleanliness and lizards.
- magalim253 (8/5): Pleasant stay - The hotel is located about 20' walk from Ubud centre, down a pedestrian alley. So, it is quieter than other hotels but some people might not like or be capable of walking. Lots of options for breakfast and the 2 pools are nice. The staff was helpful. Our room was light, of a good size. Our bed had a mosquito net which is appreciated. Pleasant stay with lots of nice restaurants around.
- Ana0589 (10/5): Just beautiful - Bali dream resort was amazing. My family and I ( 3 adults 4 kids) stayed for 5 days and we absolutely loved it. Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and the staff here are also amazing too just really lovely. Will definitely be returning for this years trip.
- Iwa05 (8/5): Calm, quiet, clean and wonderful staff - I stayed for 16 nights during a course in Ubud and really loved this place. The garden surrounding the bungalows is amazing and being an early riser I could start my day in one of the pools swimming, while watching the sun rise and listening to the birds, roosters and geckos great the day - soo peaceful. The staff was just wonderful, really good breakfast, the room and surroundings very clean and yes, they seem to look after this place - which is necessary in Bali's extremely humid climate. Have stayed in other hotels here where there were mold (not only in bathroom) broken and dirty mosquito nets over the bed, aircons not functioning and in one hotel last year, the roof actually started falling down on me during a heavy rain (!) But nothing of that at Bali Dream, it's clean, quiet and I really enjoyed staying here. It's definitely worth the money and I can warmly recommend.
- dreamylemon (8/5): Good location, great resort - Location was very good 5 min by taxi from city center, the resort is very secluded and very calm. Stay away from the pools so that its not loud if people are using it. Spa is good but not very fancy. Kitchen in villas look old but beds are good. We are happy we stayed there. We were so close to ubud center but away from traffic. If you check in late - get very specific instructions who will greet you and where is reception! Down side - towels in room were old, kitchens in villas too and in the spa - i will call a room with massage bed - sheets and towels smelled bad. Otherwise very good place to stay.
- 338alisony (8/5): Great spot - We had a lovely stay here. There were 2 pools which were nice and clean. The gardens were immaculate. The staff were all very friendly and polite. Our room was right down the back opposite one of the pools which was nice and quiet. The room was big with a good size bathroom and comfortable bed. Air con worked well and the breakfast was great. Quite a few different restaurants only minutes walk away. You can hire scooters from the shop up the road for about $7 a day. Or a walk to Ubud market would take you around 30 minutes which happens to be right in the middle of town so there are lots of different shops and restaurants to choose from. Well priced and worth the stay :)
- Adolph80 (8/5): Good location and beautiful room and place - The hotel is located away from the city noise in a beautiful setup from rooms, swimming pools and other facilities. There are plenty of options to eat around by walking distance and pretty good options.
The breakfast preparation time can be improved. It is not accessible by car but if you call them and tell them you arrived for check in they can send you a golf cart to pick you up.
Friendly staff and always smiling.
- AnastasiaC96 (8/5): Beautiful & Accomodating - Stayed for a week getaway. The villa was beautiful, as were the pools and gardens. Staff were so friendly and most spoke English. Massage salon in the resort. Skip the restaurant though. A few minutes walk to the main strip. A good hideaway from the bustle of the streets if chilling by the pool in the quiet is more your thing. Would definitely stay again.
- Ralaraluca (8/5): Beautiful resort, really loud roosters all early mornings - +good location, far from the city noise
+30min to the city center, 10 min to Campuhan Ridge Walk
+big bathroom, place for big luggages, room was clean
+we arrived after midnight, received some sandwiches and there was someone waiting for us at the reception, which we appreciated
+staff was friendly, they will help to book trips or massage if you decide
+on the corner of the street there is a taxi station
-the roosters from other comments are real! and really loud; starting from 3am...
-soundproofing of the bungalow is bad so you could hear everything from outside: people talking, motorbikes
-breakfast can be improved. Although you can choose between eggs, traditional food, American breakfast of fruits, the taste of the food was not really good. We did not try eating other meals
-pancakes were really bad... :(
- Robw954 (4/5): Tired and lacking service - Bali Dream could and should be a wonderful great value hotel away from the chaos of Central Ubud.
Alas the garden pool rooms are tired and needing a face lift, two beautiful pools but only six sun beds. On one day we had no sun beds by are closest pool as they had been taken by other guests to the second pool. So difficult to relax and enjoy the tranquility. Also only 6 pool towels put out each morning.
Breakfast is included but be prepared for a long wait. The end result was cold toast and luke warm scrambled egg! The staff just seem to be bumbling along which is a great shame. Must try harder!
- Stanl03 (6/5): Nice resort, BUT... - Good resort in a not too busy area. There are a lot of restaurants in the neighbourhood and plenty of taxi's.
There we're 2 nice pools. BUT, the breakfasts was not so much but it was good. The rooms were very tiny, barely place for the luguage. The bathroom was like a pool after you took a shower for a minute. There was dirt on the ground from animals eating the furniture. They didnt really clean the room.
- Ausfam05 (8/5): Delightful resort - We stayed here with 2 adults and 3 children for July holiday. The villas are simple but super clean with gorgeous gardens. The 2 pools were perfect for children. The included breakfast was simple but delicious. We walked into Centre of Ubud everyday (6km return). I also went to Intuitive Yoga most days which is a 500m simple scenic walk. Definitely recommend especially if you’re looking for Ubud peace and hospitality
- hayz2304 (10/5): Jungle paradise - I stayed at Bali Dream Resort with my partner and two friends in a two-bedroom villa for 4 nights last week and it exceeded our expectations!
Don't get me wrong it wasn't perfect but at the end of the day we paid £230 for the four of us for 4 nights including breakfast. Would i pay that to stay again? Absolutely!
The location is great as its away from the noise but only a mile into ubud centre. Taxis in cost 50k (around £3.00 - don't pay more, they love a haggle). If you walk to the last rank before the road Hordi is amazing we used him the whole time we were there and he drove us to Seminyak.
Here are the pros of Bali Dream:
The pools were lovely and we had one to ourselves most days. They also put towels out each day.
The staff were so polite and helpful.
The air conditioning in the bedrooms was good. Also the villa was really spacious with a massive balcony which had stunning views. In fact the views around the villa in general were beautiful.
We didnt use the spa as we didnt have time but it was really cheap and busy. The laundry service was cheap and quick and the clothes smelled lovely!
The food was good, we had exhausted the breakfast menu by the time we left but it was all nice.
A few cons:
The curtains didnt shut out any light so we were in broad daylight from sunrise onwards.
On a few occasions we ran out of toilet rolls as house keeping didnt leave us any!
There was inconsistency with the towels. We started off with a big and small towel each but on a few days we were left short after housekeeping had been.
There were no plugs in any of the sinks or baths. Not a big deal but annoying when we wanted to rinse out a few bits.
There was some sort of animal living in the roof that liked to come out at night. We could hear it running around and every evening there was poop everywhere in the communal areas! Never got a glimpse of them though so not sure what they were!
Like i said it wasn't perfect but you cant expect it for that price. I wouldnt hesitate to return!
There was a very gobby cockerel nearby who liked to make himself heard!
- Zwillingsseele (10/5): Wow! This is it!!! - I stayed in so many places in and around Ubud, in 4-5 star placed, villas etc. But when I discovered this cute resort it really surprised me. Everything I had in those overpriced hotels I have here with really low prices, a wonderful breakfast, a pool in front of my bungalow and really amazing and friendly staff. Will come back for sure. Also: it is the quiet area Penestanan of Ubud and the resort itself is quiet and an oasis.
