Guest Reviews
- Jeannie (10/5): Great stay -
- Reuteler (10/5): -
- Andrew (3/5): -
- Betty (7/5): - Shower water pressure! Deadbolt wasn't secure. Parking lot wasn't plowed
- Chloe (10/5): - Sparta Inn has the cutest modern rooms and the staff were so helpful for an easy check in!
- patrick (8/5): - Very soothing
- Joyce (10/5): - It was quite. The building was close to a delicious restaurant
- Ronald (8/5): - Inside is better than the outside looks. Bathroom floor could be renewed.
- F1111PUchrism (8/5): Better than the reviews lead you to believe - Was skeptical because of the reviews, but I gave it a shot since the last review wasn't very recent, the rooms are nice and comfy, you can tell they were updated recently. Front desk at night was very friendly even though we checked in at midnight, yeah there appears to be a few residents, ITS A MOTEL! if you're expecting the Hilton, don't, you get what you pay for at any hotel, motel or otherwise! Complain about "sketchy" things or people, I'm sure you're a peach to be around most of the time, don't judge people, you never know their story or situation, not all people live the good life
- Lawrence (8/5): - .
- Molly (2/5): - We ended up not stopping or staying to to safety concerns by the exterior look and area.
- Roland (6/5): - continental breakfast was none! just coffee tea no juice. apple. That was all.
- Brian (8/5): Clean rooms. - Clean rooms and good a/c unit. Nice bathroom. Good tv options.
- Joan (8/5): - It was clean and you have the power to regulate the air-conditioning and heater.
I didn't like the strong chemical odor in the room.not sure if it was moth balls or what but way to strong. Overall the room was good.
- Paula (10/5): - Clean. Nice stay. Nice staff
- Brenda (2/5): - Room was clean but the bathroom toilet paper had blood in between like a needle was cleaned in there! I am so glad my husband saw it ! It was so nasty to see that! Very unfortunate because it was a cute spot and quiet!
- Kim (8/5): - This place met our needs
- Kayli (2/5): - Owner and property manager is rude and very disrespectful!! I feared for my safety.. also very dirty floors and under the bed . Bathtub drain barely drains
- Kayli (2/5): - I my rights were definitely violated and but the want to b free.. sis got my food 45 mins
- Daniel (8/5): - Staff was helpful, friendly, and readily available.
- Susan (10/5): Great for the price! - I was very happy. The bed was very comfortable. The heat/air conditioning quiet and efficient. The room clean and comfortable. I was able to park my car right outside my window. No outside noise that bothered me. Great for an overnight stay. Within walking distance of downtown if necessary. Great for the price!
- Kristine (8/5): - Our room was extremely clean ans spacious. Staff was friendly. Water pressure was amazing. Price was good.
Didn't like the junked vehicles in the lot and strange guy outside a room smoking and watching as we came and went. I said hello once and got no response, just weird vibes.
- David (10/5): - Comfortable good price very clean staff nice
- Nichole (8/5): - No continental breakfast
- Ronald (6/5): - Cheap but convienant.
- Steven (2/5): The bucking toilet - Bath tiles cracked and sloped. Toilet was like a rocking horse better strap on or you might get bucked off and the heat was off slepted in my clothes the 1st night finally warmed up by the 2nd night and somewhere the price went up from the on line booking. $20 additional down the road would have been a wiser choice one on the 3 worst hotel s in my 72 years that i have stayed in
- James (8/5): - Room was comfortable and owner was amazing. Great value
- sherio387 (2/5): Sketchy - Would not stay here again. Motel is very dated and in need of repair. Even the asphalt parking lot is in bad shape. Other reviewers stated that there are long term residents living at the motel, which seemed to be the case. Sketchy. Surprisingly the beds were clean and comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was good.
- Jason (8/5): Great for solo work trip - Thi was booked for my husband that works construction he just need a bed and shower
They are working really hard to modernize this place
I had a nice room worked for a budget stay
Staff were helpfull and friendly
Will be re booking for next work stay
Was a great price and good enough for my husband's work trip
The only negative is the road was busy and a little noisy my husband is a light sleeper but im sure they would of moved him if he asked
- McKenzie (4/5): - Honestly not at all what we were expecting. Not clean, but I guess It worked for our quick turnaround but it reminded us of one of those hotels from the movies where people did some sort of felonious acts while evading the police.
- David (6/5): - Property is beaten up with doors and floors functional but in poor condition.
- Donald A (6/5): - 2 of 3 locks not working on the door.
- Steven (10/5): Sparta Inn 7/10. - Room was clean, comfortable, quiet. Staff were friendly. Only recommended thing- need a towel rod in bathroom.
- William (10/5): - Great place to stay. Right off trail.
- Colleen (8/5): clean and comfortable - From the outside as I drove into the parking lot I was a bit nervous that the motel might be a little sketchy and the rooms not so nice. I was very wrong. The gentleman who checked me in was very kind and helpful and the room was clean and very comfortable.
We did have an issue with our tv as we could not get the sound to work and the gentleman that checked us in came right over and got the sound working within a few minutes.
When in the area we will stay at the Sparta Inn again.
- Jasmine (8/5): - Little mom and pop sandwiches shop
- kathy (10/5): Nice owner - Super nice owner..super cute and very clean...will definitely stay again.
- Greg (10/5): - Great place for the price. Traffic noise starts early.
- David (6/5): - Basic accommodations for a very reasonable rate.
$56/night
- Rosalie (6/5): - There was a slight cat urine smell. Staff was friendly and at 67.00 it wasn't bad.
- Kimberly (8/5): Cute place - Cute old style, Mom& Pop type of motel. Very close to many food and shopping options. Would definitely stay again.
- GRETCHEN (2/5): - We liked the idea of parking right outside our door. The room smelled musty and was dirty. Fortunately, we had a supply of Lysol wipes and we spent half an hour wiping the dirt from the table, chairs, head boards, lamps and sink. The toilet seat had to be raised to open the bathroom door. The tub was so bad we chose not to shower. All in all the experience was awful. We would never recommend this motel.
- Timothy (10/5): - Reasonable price for a quiet night's sleep.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Skip this place. Filthy shower curtain and tub, and the shower head leaked from the pipe so only a trickle came out to clean with.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Soft bed. Friendly staff. Great location for what I needed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was in the middle of town. Easy access to stores and restraunts.
- Chipster11 (2/5): dont believe the reviews on booking.com this place is for transient - we showed up only to see a lazy boy sitting on the sidewalk in front of one of the rooms and odd items locked up and or sitting outside the rooms. the parking lot is all broken up and when asked if they had longer term residence living in the motel the answer was yes. if i could have give a zero i would have done it. i can't review it on booking.com because we were allowed to cancel our reservation they won't let me write a review
- Dawn (6/5): - Well the owner was out of town and the guy was a tad rude when I asked for 2 extra pillows as I always do when I stay. Plus there wasn’t any coffee in the room either so I had to go ask for some.
- andrew (6/5): get what you pay for - Stayed 2 nights got in late first night took shower in morning water was luke warm never got hotter . went hunting all day got back wanted a hot shower ,let water run for 7 mins never got warmer than before complained was told to let run for 20 mins. got colder so I complained gave me a new room so had to move everything 2 doors down was much better room . for what I paid I felt was worth the money the second night not the first .This place is ok if you want a cheap place to sleep, if looking for more I would stay somewhere else
- Dawn (10/5): - They always have xtra pillows for me and also they give me water .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was huge, big comfortable bed,big tv. Only problem was backside had ugly view of garbage and apartment's.also had a portable grill that owner had thrown in dumpster. didn't say sorry or comp me anything.upsetting
- OnlyWifey (2/5): Cheap room on busy corner - Would not return. Although rooms were adequate, I walked back to the office to have the mirror and sink cleaned. Not a great first impression. TV did not work. Room next door had large dog. Half the motel is rentals which hang around the office. Office was filthy and night clerk not knowledgeable about anything.
Did not feel safe. Not a good place for families or women travelling alone.
Although owner was very apologetic, this is a place I would not recommend unless you're desperate.
- Jimi (8/5): - Location is easy to find. Great price for a room with a king size bed. Wifi wasn't available. Will come back in future.
- Andres (10/5): - Very friendly and love it very clean very comfortable
- Brian (8/5): It's ok would stay again - Bed was hard and good thing I'm not a big person because no room to sit on toilet when bathroom sink is next to you needs updating and I didn't have a bathtub my son had a bathtub with his king bed
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Exactly what I expected, for the price. The main office was a little sketch but the gentleman checked us in quickly. Room was typical for a motel. Bed was pretty uncomfortable. I wouldent stay here again, but it was fine for one night.
- bill (6/5): Ok hotel except for dirty room bad beds - Tub was not cleaned black hairs in tub Soo gross bed was hard as a rock and worn out.. bathroom fan very loud needs replacing
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Didn’t change sheets for the days I was there. Didn’t exchange towels while I was there.
- Evad (8/5): - Close to bike trails. Room refrigerator and coffee pot. Free ice.
- marr (6/5): - Old motel, not much parking. Rooms are small. Comfortable bed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We were happy with our stay. Had no problems.
We needed extra pillows and they provided them.
- Staci (10/5): - Staff was very nice
- Dan (10/5): - Great place for the price. I will stay here again if I travel through Sparta.
- William (4/5): No pets allowed! - They don’t allow pets! That is huge. A motel will not get a good rating from me when I have to sneak my dogs in. Average is how I would rate this motel. It was not the worst I have ever been in, but it is by far not the best.
- Terry (10/5): Peaceful - Nice and peaceful
- andrew (8/5): - hotel was what the price reflects, clean nice staff no frills or thrills
- Theodore (4/5): Hard bed and thin walls! - Bed is as hard as the floor, underneath the sheet was plastic lining that made tons of noise when moving around! Walls are so thin you could hear everything from your neighbor's literally everything, but at least I can say it was clean!
- Roy (8/5): Family weekend - It was a very pleasant stay
- Verified traveler (6/5): You get what you pay for... - Pros: The owner/front desk staff were very kind and worked well with us.
Cons: When we entered the hotel room, there was a musty off putting smell. The floor looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in some time. The bathroom was so poorly cleaned that we went out and bought our own cleaning items.
However, for the cost of each night, it was worth those small inconveniences.
- Bob (6/5): - We were close to the interstate and the people we were helping move. We were not expecting a 5 star facility. The room was clean, the bed firm(maybe a little firmer than needed), and the staff that we saw was polite and responded to all of our requests. It was not as sound proof as we would have liked.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Needs more cleaning in bathroom and needs new sheets. There was a ring Good thing we always bring our own just incase.
- Traveler (6/5): - Motel was a bit rundown. Some upgrades present, but this place has seen better days. I feel like the price is too high for what you actually get. It is located on a busy street intersection and the room door and windows are not sound proof, so you can hear the traffic clearly all night. The bathroom space is pretty tight and the shower is very narrow (and short). The neighborhood feels a little sketchy. I probably would not stay here again.
Pros: staff was friendly, fridge and microwave in room, a handful of restaurants, Walmart and Walgreens are nearby.
- galeswain (2/5): Fleas - Stayed for one night Sept. 2. Traveling with pets, so chose this motel for being pet-friendly. Had stayed there a few other times in the past with no issues. This time our room was INFESTED WITH FLEAS!! Will never stay there again!!
- Rod (2/5): - In 40 years of traveling this is the worst motel we've ever stayed in. The room had old food from pryer guest in fridge the coffee pot had old coffee in it and grounds all over the table , but the worst was the bed it had dirty stained sheets on it .We complained and they showed us another room not much better but it did look as though the sheets had been washed we stayed only because it was very late and there was no other choice
- Ronald (6/5): Not too bad, but could be better - The wifi was terrible. The restaurant on the grounds was closed.
- Kelley (8/5): - Everything was fine. Service was good. Got what I expected at this price point.
- Flyer000 (4/5): The good and the bad - The good: The price was low enough. The inn was easy to locate. The room was clean. There was ample hot water for the shower which I took early. There was a fridge and microwave in the room plus coffee.
The bad: The mattress was akin to a piece of plywood. The pillow was akin to a block of wood. The telephone did not have a dial tone and therefore did not work. If you are over five feet tall, the shower is not for you as the head is very low. No Continental breakfast. The front desk personnel spoke very poor English--almost unable to communicate. The hotel is old, rundown, poor locks on the door. I think you get the situation.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - ok for a one night stay, not any longer. Even though it was designated as a non-smoking room, the smell of smoke was overwhelming.
- Oliver (2/5): - Room smells awful and bad
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent Manager - Newly remodeled room. Friendly, responsive staff. Highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Smokefree room, but smelled like stale smoke.
Water took so long to heat up, I thought we didn't have hot water for showers.
- Lisa (10/5): - Beautifully redone little motel.
Hoping to travel out this way again and spend some time here.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The motel was ok. It needs to be upgraded and remodeled. Our door wasn't very secure-you could see light down the whole right side. Not too comforting. Had trouble with our room keys but the desk person was helpful. It was old but clean. Location was good.
- Verndawg (2/5): Stay somewhere else - We stayed here a few years ago and it wasn't too bad, but this time around it was disgusting. The rooms were not clean. The tub had stuck on soap like it hadn't been cleaned. The towels smelled bad and had stains on them. The place is dingy and dirty. Stay somewhere else!
- vegasviking71 (6/5): a port in a storm,,,good night's sleep in clean room - After leaving a disgusting Motel 6 in Rockford ,finding accommodations late in the evening was not easy last night,Finally got a positive response at Scottish Inn.Very polite on phone, assured me rooms were clean, and I could check before checking in.When we arrived at 11:30 same man gave me room key and said take my time. The basic room with fridge microwave, ironing board, even extra cot.It was clean,,smelled OK ,locked securely and beds comfortable
- Tim (6/5): - it was good enough, i needed a place for six hours. pretty clean, but it is an older motel. for 55 bucks it did the trick.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great service and clean room. Owner manager is very responsive.
- George (10/5): - The room was very clean and nice sized.
- Belzonaguy (2/5): Bottom of the barrel - I can't add much that other reviews haven't already written. This is a pretty dumpy place compared to virtually every other Hotel with rude management to boot.
There were bad patches in the wall and paint. The little alcove where the toilet sits is so small you can barely squeeze in.
They charged my credit card on the first day of a 4-day stay. When I realized I could not stay the final day because I couldn't work in the rain, they refused to give me a refund. I was never told this and it was never shown to me in writing. I consider this a scam. Interesting to note, I went on to stay in that area and work for 6 weeks staying at another hotel. The owner of the Scottish Inn lost out on several thousand dollars just because he would not refund me my $45.
I could go on and on, but the bottom line is, stay here only if you have absolutely no other options.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Cheap hotel for a cheap price, but it is safe. - The check in person was very helpful but I had difficulty understanding them due to their accent. They have free wifi but they have several with similar names so the user is not sure which one is for use by the guest. They are trying to fix up the motel as money becomes available.
- Mary (10/5): clean, inexpensive room! - We just wanted a room for the night and didn't want to spend a lot. We were pleasantly surprised to find a cleaner room than we get in hotel chains...and the bed was the most comfortable bed ever!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): As close to the bike trail as you can get - You get what you pay for, cheapest hotel in Sparta, very pleasant staff, asked for a late checkout twice and they accommodated me. The rooms could use some updating, has a musty odor about it as well
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good price, nice owner - Price was good, the owner held the room until the next day for us,which was nice because we were deer hunting & didn't know if we wanted to stay another night
- Gail (4/5): - Disappointing, the room did not have hot water
- Jacqueline (8/5): - Was only there one nite passing through town.
- Sue (4/5): meh...you can sleep there - I think the people working there do a fine job keeping it up. It's just a pretty sad place. No real hot water to speak of when trying to take a shower (which you have to duck to attempt). Rooms were "clean": as much as you can clean something that is clearly old, worn out, and pretty gross.
- Kamsoth (6/5): You get what you pay for - People were nice at the check in, but their wifi is nonexistent or slow and in and out every 5min or so. Would have give it better rating if wifi work.
- dan (6/5): - Room was nice bath room was small
- fernando (2/5): - The place bugs (fleas or teaks )in the room
- Techie (6/5): Accommodations as anticipated for room rate. - Raj and his staff are in the process of renovation. At check-in we were escorted to the room and she did a quick loop through to see that we had what we needed. Our room did not yet have the new towels. She made a quick trip to grab them and returned before we had completed getting our things into the room. Raj was visible throughout our stay and quick to ask if we needed anything.
