Guest Reviews
- Gabriella (4/5): - Smutsigt och dålig service. Inte god mat
- Stephanie (8/5): Pretty location - A good midrange cruise of Halong bay with plenty of fun activities. Not a luxury liner by any means, but a lot of fun.
- Stefania (10/5): Nice cruise and good value for money - The activities are the typical from Ha Long Bay tours, the ship and room were very similar as the pictures. Food quality on board could be improved but overall experience very good
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Small group size and great food and staff made this a great cruise
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The location itself was lovely, and the activities enjoyable, though the cave visit felt a bit rushed. The ship was obviously old and run down. One of my towels was stained and tattered, so it became the shower mat. The sheets smelled clean, though. The bed was just a slab of hard foam, with no give at all, so it was a very uncomfortable night. The AC was nice, but only worked when the boat wasn’t moving. My room was heavily fragranced, which made me feel immediately sick upon entering it. It turned out, they’d sprayed an air freshener inside right before guests arrived, so if you have sensitivity to fragrances, I would advise them ahead of time not to spray it in your room. Our guide was kind and spoke English well. The activities he led were fun. Meals included way too much food, so a lot was wasted each time, which felt sad to me. The flavoring was also a bit too sweet for my taste for most things. Drinks were not included and the on-ship prices are a bit ridiculous, so you might want to stock up on drinks while off the ship.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic Halong cruise - Cruise was what it said on the tin, itenary fitted the bill, kayaking was fun, surprising cave was surprising! Food was nice, boat could do with a little TLC.
- Pat (10/5): Loved it - There was not much to not like about this cruise.. it was low to mid priced but only had about 20 people onboard so there was always heaps of room.
The food was good and the price of drinks was ok .. they offered unlimited drinks for $30usd .. challenge accepted.. includes him beam and Johnny walker as well as cocktails for the girls
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Adequate cruise, majority of staff incredibly friendly and kind. Far too much time allocated to kayaking ( was very pleasant the first time but got boring by the third time as an activity) ships condition was very dated. But was a more affordable option
- Trang (10/5): Small ship with excellent service - Due to my bf and our short stay in Hanoi, we were only able to spare a 2 day and 1 night cruise so Legacy Cruise was the perfect choice for us. The customer service was great from coordinating our transportation to/from the ship to our efficient and friendly tour guide Dino and the kind attention of all the ship’s staff...our stay on the ship far exceeded our expectation. My bf and I do not eat pork, so the chef made special dishes for us that accompanied the plethora of food he was already making. It’s always difficult to please a crowd but none of us went away hungry.
We were also not expecting any of the excursions that the ship offered on our short cruise so we were pleasantly surprised that we were taken to Titop island and Surprise Cave. The ship even had activities like kayaking, cooking class and squid fishing.
My bf and I usually cruise on larger cruise ships so this was a different experience for us. Being on a smaller ship with 20 other guests allowed for a sense of comraderie and we enjoyed the intimacy. Overall, my bf enjoyed ourselves on our cruise with Legacy and appreciate the work of their staff to make our trip to Halong Bay successful.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - old but clean hotel
- Matthew (8/5): Enjoyable cruise - Very enjoyable cruise. Ship was a little old compared to some of the others in the bay, but was nice overall. We did the 2 day 1 night cruise which was fun, albeit the timings of the itenary was slightly odd (eg very early start on day 2 followed by sitting around after the first activity). Kayaking was our highlight and also enjoyed the ‘surprising cave’. Food surpassed expectations.
Overall would recommend, especially for the price
- Ewan (10/5): 3 days 2 nights - Quality trip - Great trip on Halong Bay! The 3 days 2 nights gave you time to enjoy the views and also chill a bit. Staff were great
- Tran (10/5): - I stayed on Legacy cruise on package 2 days/1 night & I loved it. The boat was older than picture but comfortable, clean with private bathroom. The activities were very interesting. I like to the view from Titop island top very much. Swimming & Kayaking in Lan Ha bay where less touristy was brilliant. Foods were good & staff were friendly. Will be back with family!
- A (10/5): Great experience - Great experience. Good boat and service in beautiful area
- Joel (8/5): Our 1 night Halong Bay cruise with Legacy - Our one night tour with legacy cruises was lovely. We were picked up from our hotel in Hanoi right when we had arranged. It was a 4 hour bus ride to the start of the cruise.
On the boat we were fed 4 meals, all four served family style with other guests on board. The good was good but not great, a mix of western and Asian dishes with more food offered than we could eat. Food was covered in the price of the cruise but drinks were extra, $3 or $4 for beer or around $7 for wine or mixed drinks.
The boat traveled through the beautiful bay, using a smaller boat we pulled behind us to shuttle us to our various activities. We got to do a short hike to see a lovely aerial view of the bay, swim on a sand beach with MANY other visitors, visit a large cave, and kayak near some homes on the water. All activities were in areas with many other tourists from other cruises. The areas also often featured gift shops, for better or worse. You could buy beer, water, a snack, or a souvenir; but it did take away from the natural beauty of the area.
Our guide was a delight, he spoke good English, gave us some extra insight on the areas we visited, told jokes, and was with us from when we were picked up in Hanoi to when we were dropped back off in Hanoi the following day.
Overall we were very happy with our tour. The boat was nice but not the most luxurious boat we saw on the water. For the price it seemed like a solid choice to view an incredible part of the world.
- Ashley (6/5): nice staff with an old cruise ship - the staff was very friendly and the meals were delicious. the tour was full of activities and which was great. The only thing that I didnt like is the cruise is was old and the cabins are not very clean and doesnt look like on the photos.
- Rob (8/5): Wonderful cruise through Halong Bay - Took the 2 night (3 day) option. This is exactly 48 hours and definitely preferable to the 1 night option as able to get away from the crowds and polluted areas of the bay. Beautiful scenery and trips for folks and activities very well organised with efficient transfers.
Very good mid price boat. Plenty of good food. Drink prices reasonable. Room comfortable and clean on arrival but change of towels, replenishing soap and shampoo and emptying of rubbish bins after day 1 should have been standard
- Matthew (10/5): So beautiful - So beautiful the Bay is the most beautiful place I have ever been
- Verified traveler (4/5): Poor customer service, Crowded and polluted bay - The room was ok. The service was poor. The whole experience seems to be about getting you on and off the boat as quickly as possible while providing the minimal amount of customer service possible. A few examples to illustrate the point: (1) They had Nescafe at breakfast which I personally do not like. I asked for a Vietnamese coffee (which you have to pay extra for which I was fine with). They initially refused to give me a coffee and said it would take too long. I literally had to insist 3 or 4 times before they made me a coffee (which of course took 2 minutes). (2) They make customers carry their bags on and off the boat. This was fine with me as I generally prefer to carry my own bag anyway but this is absolutely unheard of Vietnam as far as I could tell. (3) They serve you rather pedestrian food and they do it family-style. I am mostly fine eating with strangers so I didn't really mind but they obviously did it because it was cheaper and way easier for them. As they will only serve food this way, you literally have to be at the table when they serve the food or you apparently cannot eat. I was "late" for breakfast which was served at 7 am and they rang my doorbell once and knocked loudly twice to wake me up, etc. The service was so unlike anything else I experienced in Vietnam. All this would have been fine if the Bay was worth visiting. Unfortunately, it frankly is not. It is polluted, you literally see garbage everywhere, and it is overcrowded with boats.
- Luke (8/5): Great cruise option in Ha Long bay - Staff were great, food was really good. Room was dated but more than expected with a proper bathroom with shower and good pressure and hot water. Boat was good with upstairs area and at night we could fish for squid. Partying was ok till 10:30 which was all we needed as they are early days with lots of activities
- Fiona (8/5): A memorable 2D1N with Legacy Cruise - Had a great stay at Legacy Cruise. The shuttle pick up from Hanoi to Halong Bay was well organized. Our tour guide "hung" speaks good english and is not stingy sharing his knowledge of Vietnam History with us. Boat Crew was very attentive and helpful. Sun deck of Legacy Cruise was awesome as I spend most of my time on the sundeck instead of my room. The tour includes a trip to Bai Tu Long Bay - Fisherman Village where you can either kayak or sit on a bamboo boat, Sung Sot Cave where you get to enjoy Halong Bay view from the top. All in all, I had a great time cruising with Legacy Cruise.
- Richard (8/5): - We booked the 2 night cruise but you can see everything with the 1 night one, however it was good to have time to relax and enjoy the scenery. The food and service was good but the room was in need of a refurb and the beds very hard.
- Christine (8/5): Good for seeing Halong Bay in a short time - The crew and guides make sure a lot of activity is packed into the 2-night cruise, and the food is excellent.
- Rachel (10/5): Lovely cruise - We really enjoyed our 1 night 2 day stay on Ha Long bay. The highlight was swimming in the bay after kayaking to a shore nearby. Only criticism is that we had a very hard bed.
- MILENA (8/5): - A estadia foi ótima. A equipe é simpática e prestativa. O guia é muito prestativo.
Vale a pena visitar a Baía que é fantástica
- travel_guru_su (8/5): Fair cruise - They picked up us from our hotel in Hanoi exactly on time. Our guide gave us all the necessary information in a very understandable way. He was a hilarious person. The bus stopped for a rest at a great place. Lots of local gifts and souvenirs, snacks, café, etc. The room in the cruise boat was fair enough and clean. The meals are plenty and delicious with some Asian culinary. The scenery is marvelous and the environment is impressive. Ha Long Bay is one of the Unesco World Heritage Sites and considered one of the Marvels of the World. On the board, Wi-Fi was not as reliable as in their transfer bus. Hospitality is amazing.
- erika (10/5): Fabulous experience! - said booked during Tet I was transferred to the Glory Legend cruise instead. This was lovely! I went for the upgraded room with balcony and was glad I did. The room was great, very clean, cosy and luxurious. Overall the cruise was good, I'm very glad I went for the two night option as you get to see so much more. However the second day does feel like an afterthought and tagged onto the one night trip itinerary. They also need to work out a new itinerary for winter as they key daytime activities are swimming and kayaking which are not great fun when it's cold
That said though, I had a fantastic time with great food, caves and leisure time and would happily recommend it to anyone
- Verified traveler (8/5): Perfect Way to See Halong Bay - Wasn't sure what to expect after looking at the numerous tours and options that go to HB. Decided to use Expedia to book, which got us a great rate for this tour. After booking, the tour operator followed up via email to offer transportation (it's a 5 hr bus ride to get to HB from Hanoi) which we booked. They picked us up at our old quarter hotel exactly on time (8am). We had booked a deluxe cabin, which was quite nice with a large bed (queen), a very nice bathroom (compared to other boats and hotels in Asia) and big windows. The closet is somewhat small, but fine for our mid-size travel backpacks. Bed was somewhat hard, but not really an issue. WiFi was very slow and only in public areas which was a pain. Further, WiFi only works when the boat is moving, thus you cannot use during the evening or night (boat is anchored).
Never was clear whether you can BYOB on the boat. They didn't seem to care and saw no rule posted against it although saw this mentioned from other tours/boats. I would recommend to BYOB if possible, as drinks on the boat are relatively expensive. Plenty of food at meals, and while more heavy on veggies, it was generally decent.
Our guide (Peter) was excellent, knowledgeable, funny, and accommodating. 2 days and 1 night was enough for us, but 2 nights would have allowed more time to see more remote areas (get over the long bus ride). It was misty and somewhat cold during our visit (January), so islands not a stunning as might otherwise be.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really fun went kayaking and did a cave tour as well as going through the floating village
- Klimenty (10/5): Excellent tour. - Very nice cruise. Enjoyed immensely.
Great, clean and comfortable boat with an excellent food and full of different activities. The tour guide was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and very helpful to accommodate all of your requests.
I wish the tour was a little longer.
- Thuy D. Bird (10/5): Superb Cruise for a Great, Affordable Price! - I traveled with a group of 5 including myself. We did a 2 day/1 night cruise aboard the spectacular Legacy Cruise boat. The van provided to pick up passengers from Hanoi was comfortable and check-in was a breeze. Aboard, we enjoyed our sail around Ha Long Bay even with the overcast skies. Each of the 3 rooms were neatly done and were clean. We were situated on the second floor, which was quiet and nice. The staff on the boat were friendly and accommodating. The bartender made great mango smoothies, which my sister and brother-in-law enjoyed. I am not sure of the beer prices but the smoothie prices were comparable to those in Hanoi. The food at all meals were plenty and I saw that many of the vegans and vegetarians were satisfied. The activities on the itinerary were fun especially the kayaking adventure. My family and I met and talked with the other friendly passengers and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the cruise!
Our tour guide was named Maggi(e)/Maggy and she was awesome! She's funny and very knowledgeable. Her English-speaking skills is great. She miraculously found my partner and I during our kayaking trip when we got lost and wandered a bit. Maggie is easy going and very helpful. My mother loved her and will recommend her to friends.
I look forward to possibly going on another cruise with Legacy if I am up northern Vietnam. Thanks Legacy Cruise for a superb time for my family and I!
