Guest Reviews
- Hague (10/5): - It was quiet and clean. For what it is you get what you pay for. Its not the Hilton but for $70 a night you get what you pay for. We were happy. Didn't have a bathtub, that's about it.
- Merida (1/5): -
- Lisa (4/5): These rooms need to be cleaned, maintained, and sprayed for insects! - The location was accurately represented and pretty convenient for where I needed to be. It was extremely quiet at night and the bed was comfortable. The front desk people were friendly and polite. That room should have been sprayed for bugs! I lost count of the number of stinkbugs and other bugs that I killed. Every time I turned around, there were more. The floor, which I think was linoleum vinyl, was dirty. When I got there, before I realized how bad the bugs were, I walked around barefoot because I don't like wearing shoes inside. After a short time, the bottoms of my feet felt like they had debris on them, and I looked at them - they were black with dirt and dust. When was the last time that floor was cleaned? There were plenty of towels and washcloths, but at least one of them was worn out and had multiple holes. Finally, the mini-fridge was not plugged in when I got there. I should have checked this, but I'm not used to having to plug in a mini-fridge. By the time I realized I needed to plug it in, the items that I had wanted to stay cold were no longer cold. The room itself needed some maintenance - bathroom fan and timer didn't work, and wallpaper was peeling, for instance - but that wouldn't have been a deal-breaker for me if the cleanliness level had been acceptable.
- Daryl (8/5): - Rooms are clean, staf was helpful
- Taran (4/5): yall need to do better - The photos on the Hotels.com website do NOT accurately show what this place looks like now! A dude 3months ago said the lobby coffee machine was broken; it STILL is! The rooms haven't been maintained in years and were done poorly to begin with anyway. The wallpaper, that's already peeling has random pain marks all over like who ever was painting the rooms was trying out a brush. The first room I got had mildew ALL over the carpet. I alerted the woman at the front desk and they tried to say it was carpet shampoo. Yall, it was fuzzy. I'm from VA, and any southerner knows you're going to get mildew if your place isn't properly dehumidified in the summer. You could smell it. They moved me to a new room. It clearly wasn't cleaned after the last person left because there was hair all in the sink, bugs all on the bathroom floor (alive and dead). The used shampoo tubs were still on the toilet, someone left their shoes under the desk and the bed sheets had dirt in them. I noticed that the rooms had cups full of shampoo and soap bars which tells me that cleaning staff doesn't check the rooms after each guest. One of the outlets had caught on fire at some point, was never repaired and the smoke detector was pulled from the wall. And they had the audacity to ask multiple times for tips for the "cleaning staff". I probably cleaned that room better than it's seen in 30 years. I checked out early and just left the key in the room. I'm sure the place was cute in 1940, but not anymore.
- Scott (1/5): Won't get my business again. - Price, location. Charged me extra for my registered support animal, too many people intruding on others' privacy, peace and safety; staff needs training to be more accommodating and professional.
- Scott (1/5): Slum - Already shared. Already shared.
- Scott (8/5): I will stay again. - Office staff was very accommodating.
- Roger (7/5): Good -
- Christina (10/5): - Mrs Mae is very friendly and helpful. Checks on you to make sure everything is ok. I’d recommend it - stayed 3 weeks for work. Loved my little room!! Mrs Mae was a bonus!!
- Tiia (1/5): Bad - When we arrived, although we had received a confirmation from Booking, the Driftwood had been without internet and did not have our reservation. They had no available room so we had to find different accomodations and had to drive 20 miles to get the closest available room. I'd made the reservations long in advance.
- Ashante (1/5): Bad -
- Numayr (7/5): Good -
- David (1/5): Never go back - Dirty microwave & table tops
Improper door locks that I secured with furniture to feel safe
Multiple code violations with electric cords
- Hamza (1/5): Bad -
- Hinson (3/5): They charged me a $25 extra fee for having a small dog. I’m assuming it was bc they’d have to clean extra bc dogs are di - The beds were comfy The hot water coming out of the sink faucet was yellow
The bedding had a few stains on it
It hadn’t been vacuumed , there was dirt and pills under the smaller bed and dirt all over the floor in the closet
- Nancy (2/5): Job - the location Everything is dirty, the blankets, pillows, bathrooms and the floor carpet.
- Margaret (9/5): No frills, gets the job done - Great price. Comfortable room. Terrific shower. Owner is very responsive.
- Quidachay (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elizabeth (4/5): Disappointing -
- Kat (7/5): Good -
- Quiana (10/5): - Rooms were clean. Check-in was a breeze, and the housekeeping lady is the best left her a nice tip
- Bill (4/5): - I just needed place to stsy before hunting trip. Guy knocked on door for a jump start to his car. Made me bit nervous, but he was ok. Room was dirty, smelled like car air fresheners, bathroom looked like it was from 60's, green & yellow tiles. The door looked like it was busted into a few times, latch was busted, i felt unsafe to sleep so i put a chair under the handle. Could hear neighbor business all night. Will not be staying there again. So the saying goes, "you get what you paid for"
- Skyler (1/5): Did not stay due to concerns of bed bugs - There were bed bugs we had to cancel our stay after seeing the facility
- Cynthia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (1/5): Bad -
- Margaret (7/5): Serviceable and nothing fancy - We needed a place in Chestertown just for a quick overnight stay -- it met all our needs. We did not need anything luxurious, just serviceable. The front desk clerk (I assumed owner) was very accommodating and helpful. We will stay there again next month for the same reasons. The place is like a time capsule to the days of the roadside motels. Could use an update, but for what we needed, it ht the mark.
- Barbara (6/5): will not stay there adain - the room really needed better cleaning. found an old sock under the cover in one of the beds.
- Kelley (2/5): - Section 8 Housing?
- Carol (8/5): - It was fine. I have no complaint. I stayed one night. The staff was friendly.
- Turner (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dmitriy (10/5): Exceptional - Clean, nice firm mattresses. The best value for the price. A little issues with AC but I figured later that everything worked fine, just operating was not intuitive.
- Wilson (1/5): Bad -
- Donald (4/5): - Stay somewhere else!
- Debra (8/5): Very good - The staff
- Jon (2/5): It was not a comfortable stay. - The room had stains everywhere. The television did not work
- Kevin (1/5): Didn't stay got money back, slept in car. - Nothing Paint walls cleaner rooms.
- Thayer (1/5): Bad -
- Brian (3/5): Poor -
- alan (4/5): Needs a better maid to clean - Like a1950 motel. Dirty Bathroom
- James (2/5): Very poor - Close to the people we visited Most everything, dirty and rundown. Creepy people hanging around that didn't appear to stay there. It's clearly not a good place, it is more like a flop house. It needs to close down and remodel. It is hard to communicate with the manager as his English is not his 1st language, on the phone it is almost impossible to understand him, in person he was likable, but it is clear he is trying to spend very little on up keep to make as much money as possible.
- John (8/5): Very good budget option - I decided to go low-budget for my two-night stay in Chestertown (in town for the Rock Hall Triathlons). This place is convenient and an excellent choice for someone who doesn't plan to spend a lot of time in their room. Rooms are spare w/no frills. Basically four lights in the entire room (overhead, wall, bathroom, shower). Bed was reasonably comfortable. I did notice that the shower temperature control looked a little grungy on the inside; otherwise, the room was clean and fit for purpose. I would stay here again if I were seeking to economize.
- Gerstung (5/5): Passable - Location to the workplace Cleanliness in shower
- Steven (6/5): Pleasant - Location and price Room next door on corner smoked right outside room so we couldn’t have window open to get fresh air when we got there as there was a strong air freshener smell.
- David (3/5): Poor -
- William (8/5): - It was clean and everything worked--more than I could say for many other more expensive rooms I've stayed in. The shower was exceptionally good. Watch out for the hot water: very hot! The TV had Netflix, Hulu, Roku, & Vudu. And they worked.
On the downside, the furnishings and carpet were worn, but not terrible.
- Kristen (2/5): - I have never bailed on a motel booking. Smelly room, dodgy neighborhood, broken equipment and cig butts everywhere… no way.
- Michael (10/5): - May was very pleasant and helpful. Will certainly return when we are in the area
- Alan (3/5): Poor -
- Frank (2/5): Never again - Old dirty rooms with mold growing in the bathroom
- Melinda (8/5): Very good - Very clean and quiet. Great mattress. Loved the chart of the Chester river on the wwall. The room needed a face lift, mostly color coordinating of accessories. The night security lock was broken
- Clare (6/5): Good price but very outdated . - Great location and price . Rundown and outdated .
- Denise (10/5): Will continue to visit - Nice older motel, clean and priced reasonably. A place to lay your head and take a shower. Have been 3 times now and they do a great job
- Nancy (4/5): Clean but shabby, you get what you pay for. - Liked location and price. Very run down, makes it look dirty even after it’s been cleaned.
- DENNIS (10/5): - Very well lit up at night after returning from dinner with friends. Also please thank “May” the wonderful lady who welcomed me th the drift wood inn.
- Seamus (1/5): I checked out my room, it was disgusting. I then got a hotel down the road and left. - Nothing The entire motel is in bad shape.
- Mcelwee (7/5): Good - Great price, fast and friendly check in.
- Fred (8/5): Very good -
- kyla (6/5): Keep your socks on - great for the price! - Our floor was very sticky, so keep your socks on. Everything else was really lovely, for the price we paid. Service was amazing, very kind and accommodating. Bathroom is old, but clean. Beds are comfy. Fridge and microwave are new and useful. If you’re looking for affordable and you won’t spend a lot of time there, Driftwood Inn is perfect.
- Tim (8/5): Very good -
- Tim (6/5): Pleasant -
- Zachary (1/5): Bad - Location. It has a great location in a town with very few affordable options. I stayed here before and it was fine, so decided to book it again. However, this time I found it to be dirty and the bed gave me a bad rash...The second night I slept in clothes and the rash mostly went away but hopefully it won't come back (I just checked out).
- Talyn (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Turner (9/5): Superb - May the staff is very pleasant and the location when needing new washcloths the owner refuses to give us new ones/clean ones
- Kevin (2/5): Very poor - Across from the college. Front desk person was friendly. It wasn’t clean - mold in the shower, edges of the room not vacuumed, stained comforter. People were standing outside drinking while others hung out in their vehicles doing drugs.
- Denise (10/5): - Older motel, clean quiet and price is great. Have been here twice and coming back in Oct. Beds were new and comfy.
- Lamirah (6/5): Pleasant -
- Byrnes (9/5): Perfect little sleep over ! - I found the Driftwood Inn to be very pleasant and affordable for great little weekend getaway ! A little more attention could be paid too the cleanliness of the nooks and crannies inside the room !
- Belus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (1/5): We didn’t stay - That he didn’t argue with me about wanting my money back just said he will have to keep 10 dollars because that’s what you guys charge him The room was very disgusting we couldn’t even stay there walked in walked out they did give me my money back except 10 dollars which is fine as long as I got most of it . Them rooms were bad I felt like if I stayed I would probably had bugs ceiling on me
- Steven (7/5): Good -
- John (8/5): A pleasant surprise inside... - The place isn't attractive from the outside, but the condition on the inside was very surprising and nice inside. not the best place to stay but it was comfy and worth the price. Not the cleanest place, I noticed dead bugs in the corner on the floor near the headboard on the bed. not enough electrical outlets. I only spent one night so I was in and out. It was very nice for what I needed it for.
- Michele (8/5): Place was clean, efficient and had most of what you needed. Management was helpful and friendly. - Because bed was a little too firm for me, management gave me extra pillows which was nice.
Fridge worked well.
Shower worked well. Toiletries (soap & shampoo) supplied.
No breakfast included (which we didn’t want anyways) but coffee in lobby was available It would have been nice to have a light blanket or coverlet. There was only one top sheet and then a bed spread so really only one sheet to cover you while sleeping as the bed spread would not have been comfortable to use. Couldn’t get the hairdryer to work but luckily I’d brought one.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Back in 15 minutes !?! - Went to check in. Front lobby locked. Sign says “back in 15 minutes”.
Check-in after receptionist returns.
Go to room. Prepare to take shower and realize there are no towels.
Front lobby locked. Sign says “back in 15 minutes”.
Go back numerous times over several hours.
Front lobby locked. Sign says “back in 15 minutes”.
Skip the shower.
Next morning go to check out.
Front lobby locked. Sign says “back in 15 minutes”.
- Marjorie (5/5): Passable -
- Breeanna (3/5): EHH!! - My electricity is turned off, so the place satisfied my needs. Second time staying. This last time, I found 2 bed bugs!! That was it for me! I've had experience in bed bug infestation and I don't need to deal with that again. They need to have an exterminator in there to exterminate each room and do it on a regular basis. And they need to clean better than they do.
- John (1/5): Bad - nothing not clean,
- Breeanna (5/5): Overall, it was okay! - It was a reasonable price! Nice size room, which, I had a king size bed for 2 adults. They need to up their cleanliness game! Dusty! They need to put in the effort to really clean the rooms for customers to WANT to come back and stay!
- Chris (7/5): Good -
- Linette (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marcella (8/5): Very good - There was none
- Linette (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sulaf (4/5): Disappointing -
- Rachael (2/5): Poor - Bed bugs
- Ed (6/5): Quite old building/rooms. Owners need to use correct English and grammar on signage. - convenient to Chestertown No one there upon checking in the first time.
- Catina (10/5): Worth the price - The convenience of the location. Checking in was quick and easy. Friendly staff. Comfortable beds.
- Lesley (3/5): Poor - Location close to amenities The picture above one of the beds wasn't even on the wall. As soon as we sat down it fell onto our bed and us. There was drugs left ontop of the refrigerator. The refrigerator wasn't even plugged in when we got there. There was roaches in it. On the walls and in the bathroom. No heat in the bathroom. Blood on the sheets. The neighbors we're partying and fighting all night long. We would have asked for a refund or just left. But... there's no other options in this town that is remotely affordable. The house keeper never brought us toilet paper or any supplies. It was the worst time staying there ever. The worst. Extremely disappointed. The door didn't even close all the way. And you could see people when they walked by under the door. It was creepy and unsafe. They should be ashamed of themselves. And the fire alarm was covered and wrapped in plastic. So if there was an emergency. You'd never know. Once again unacceptable.
- Donald (6/5): Adequate - No reading lamps or seating
- Shawn (8/5): Very good -
- Jeffrey (6/5): At first I wasn't impressed, but we had a nice quiet stay. - For the price the hotel was fine. It's an older place, but inside was clean. My first impression of the look of it wasn't great, but the staff was helpful and we actually had a nice quiet sleep. The owner is in the process of fixing up the place so I think it will get better. The exterior needs work. It's no frills, old school motel style. If you want fancy its not for you. If you need a clean, no frills crash, it's fine.
- Greg (6/5): Very adequate for the price. - Price & location was good. Liked Fridge & Microwave. Liquor store across the parking lot Old motel. Had issue with the key card & nobody was around to help at first. Fortunately, the housekeeper was nearby & got me in.
- mark (2/5): - Room smelled really bad. There was hair in the bathroom and only wiring where the smoke detector used to be. We used our own sheets and opted not to use the shower.
- Paula (2/5): - The room was very old looking. Rust in the tub, paint peeling, old furniture. No peep hole on the door. Didn’t seem very secure.
- Julia (5/5): Passable - It was the only offering in Chestertown that was on Booking.com on the day that I made my reservation. Next time I will check a bed and breakfast site. I believe that the sheets and pillowcases were clean. Unfortunatly We arrived when the sun was shining brightly through the front door and window which showed every speck of dust and there were many. There was a smoked-in smell. It looked as If the room was rarely dusted. I was able to open the screened windows to let fresh air in but I was still coughing the entire night from the chemical smell. Right outside the back window was an abandonded toilet and several doorless refridgerators. There was no reading lamp, just a very bright overhead lamp. Ther was mold in the shower. We left as early as we could.
- Geer (8/5): Perfectly pleasant stay. The shower was hot and accessible. -
- Deweese (9/5): I enjoyed myself. - The location and the workers. The free WIFI
- Michelle (1/5): glad we lived fairly close that we didn’t even stay the night. went for a wedding in the area and checked out the same - the only thing I can say that was ok was the attendant at the desk. he was very nice when we checked in. the room had a horrible smell, the carpet has never been cleaned. the shower floor tile was coming up. the bed was an old spring mattress
- Teufel (1/5): Bad -
- Lesley (7/5): Good - Convenience to visit family and friends. Been staying here off and on for many years now. It has improved a lot!! A lot!! The drunk obnoxious neighbors harassing me and my family. Throwing beer bottles. Asking for drugs. Slamming the doors on hotel room next to our room. Reving engine. Just unacceptable. Now manager did tell them to quiet down. But... to no avail. They kept acting like fools
